Brooklyn Nets vs New York Knicks LIVE ON ESPN 4K NBA 2K26 Summer League NBA LIVE NBA TODAY
that these two teams probably aren’t going to have a chance at as they’re both 0 and2. But it’s a gorgeous summer league championship trophy as we come down the home stretch of the regular season, if you will, of this summer league. Teams vying for those top four spots in the semi-final. Still nine teams undefeated when more than two teams are tied. Point differentials are tiebreaker. Spurs, Kings, Hawks, Clippers, and Hornets. the first five to three and 0. We can’t wait to watch this one with you. Welcome to the Pavilion Courtside along with the coach Tom Green and Melanie Ricks. I’m Drew Carter. And Tom, this point of the summer league, a lot of people start to leave Las Vegas. We’re seeing different guys get opportunities to play and it’s still a great opportunity for everyone. It’s an incredible opportunity because there’s jobs on the line whether it’s not only with your team, but any of the 20 29 other teams, the G-League teams, and certainly so many people that are here in Europe. But if you want to have a career, you can’t have off days in the in the in the Las Vegas summer league. So, we’re really looking forward to seeing who’s going to take advantage of this opportunity. Don’t worry about the crowd. Don’t worry about who’s watching. Come out and stake your claim on why you belong on the roster. Now, one player who’s certainly hoping to improve what he’s shown so far in Vegas, that’s Tyler Kle, who’s been disappointing through two games. Well, he’s not playing himself. He’s averaging five turnovers a game in two games. He’s not shooting a three as well. He’s kind of fallen back on his three. Some of his decision- making hasn’t been great, but he can do this. I mean, he’s he was as good a layup maker. He was the best layup maker coming out of the draft a year ago, much like Cam Jones was this year coming out of Marquette. But he can see, he can pass, he can play, he’s got to shoot the ball with confidence and probably cut down the home runs a little bit. Maybe look for more doubles today. Yeah. Now, speaking of college players, Drew Timmy, one of the best in the land when he was at Gonzaga, now trying to translate it to the NBA, and he’s done fantastic this week. Well, the thing about what he did at Gonzaga, it was phenomenal for college basketball, but it really didn’t translate to the NBA. He’s doing a lot better job now. The footwork translates to the NBA. It translates anywhere. He’s had that. Here’s where he’s better. Being ready to shoot, getting lift on his jump shot, holding his follow through. Watch this dunk. All right, there’s the cut. There’s the pass right down the lane. I mean, that is a phenomenal play. Great pass from Tyson Etion, but there Timmy on the roll. So, he’s playing a more wideopen free game. He’s still got to shoot the free throws better. He’s got to continue to be a three-point shooter better, but he’s a 28 points in two games. He’s been impressive here. Yeah, when you look at the stats, he certainly pops. Check out the starting lineups. Some notable absences for the Nets. No Danny Wolf, no Tyson Etien, no Jagorman, no Drake Powell, no Tosan A. So, it’s Daniels Nelson, Sarra Trrowor, and Timmy. Still a couple of first round picks from this year in there. For the Knicks, no Lance McCulla, McCome Dier also out, but Kolic Bay, Bochamp, Dawara, and Hucky. That’s your starting five. See Danny Wolf over there. The Nets holding out a couple of guys cuz they play backto back. Also in action tomorrow after had a bit of a delay here. This a big opportunity for Grant Nelson, who is an undrafted free agent, played at Alabama, can really shoot the ball. He’s shown good driving ability early on in these two games as well. Now he’s got a real versatile game. Grant Nelson started at North Dakota State, ended up at Alabama playing for NATO and Kick is called for the early foul. 17 seconds in. Good drive. I like how quick Terrari was driving that ball down the line. He He’s been very good at getting into the lane area. Maybe not necessarily with the finishing, but if you’re the Nets and Shawn Marks, you want to see a you want to see a versatile attack from Nolan Trayori. The Nets used five first round picks this year. First team in NBA history to do that as Nelson’s called for the foul setting a screen on Colet going the other way. Good screen and and Tyler knew he got hit and he sold it pretty well too. That’s a smart savvy move. This is sometimes what you see in summer. We got two fouls 19 seconds in. If we average more than one per 10 seconds, we’ll be here all night. But some of the games have been physical and a lot of time that’s a good thing. 3 seconds. Annette’s bench is cheering for the 3 seconds call against them. Well, we’re showing our knowledge of the rule book here in the first two plays. So, now we can settle in as referees and let it rip. Nelson was stuck in the lane there. Re throws good from Marjan Bochamp, a former first round pick of the Milwaukee Bucks back in 2022, now playing for the Knicks, wearing number 14. I really thought yesterday there were numerous chances that 3 seconds could have been called. Maybe that became a point of uh operation today. On the dribble drive, an offensive foul out of bounds as Jamal Bay was looking to make something happen. Spent last year with the Westchester Knicks. It’s a great opportunity for Bay in a game like this. you we saw him bring up the ball the first time. Gets Tyler off the ball a little bit. I hope they hope that’s the way it goes today. Here’s Nelson comfortable on the perimeter. Take it to the corner. Accord defending the rim and doing it nicely challenging the shot from Caleb Daniels who got it back and scored the first two for Brooklyn. Fullourt pressure applied by the Nets. There’s a little push off from Hucki. No call. Crosscourt pass. Corner three. Wouldn’t go for Mohamed Diawara, another rookie from France. Nelson’s pass. Look up the floor. There you go. Mark hits it ahead. Huck cordi. Now it’s Bo Champ. One-on-one. Those are the shots Bo Champ’s got to make. I mean, that that he’s got to be able to score in the paint using the glass, using the runners, whatever it is. That’s the next step. The shooting hasn’t been there. The finishing has got to be there. Fouls called on Bo Champ on this end. on both. Is that the most important part for his game? Finishing around the rim. Well, for for to to to stick it is, you know, eventually you want to see him be able to make open shots, but he’s got to defend. He’s got to be a guy that has a really good baseline game. He can cut, he can drive it out of there, but when he gets in the paint, something good has to happen. Whether it’s an open kick, but more like likely you want to see him try to get a good finish. So, Rob, the stop and pop from the elbow comes up short. Rebound down to Timmy. There goes Trareayor and Hakorti again challenging the shot. Keeps the eyes up, fires a three, knocks it down. He got the friendly roll living right. That’s balance. He didn’t fade on it. One of his issues with the three has been he fades a little early there. He locked down that right foot, stepped into it, and buried it. Fancy finger roll wouldn’t go. Caleb Daniels, 26 years old, out of Villanova. Now it’s Bo Champ for three. There goes Sarra. Hangs and hits. Very good play. This guy’s had probably a two-day break in his life, you know, playing overseas, coming up, getting drafted, going to camp with the Nets. He’s in game mode. No doubt about that. Timmy shading over Saraf got in the passing lane and batted it over to Nelson. Nice play from the rookie. Do you notice that the guys coming over from playing professionally in Europe seem more ready to play right now? Well, again, I a lot of times it is, but I think the fact they’ve been playing so deep into the season and playing for a championship, I mean, you can’t beat that. And uh not a good look. Not a good look. That that is uh a Drew Timmy look from the past, not the one that he’s trying to bank on right now. But as Saraf gets in that paint, does a great job shielding, uh protects the ball on the side, uses the glass to get the layup. Drew Timmy missed that. He was never ready to shoot that ball. Saraf pestering the ball handler Bay. What you see with Sharov is is there’s some length there, right? His shoulders have got a chance to really get stronger, but he can go both ways. He can he can cross it over. He’s crappy in the paint. And the fact that he looks a little bit longer and taller than you really see before you get to watching play in person is a really positive thing as well. Kick doubled in the corner. Four to shoot as they swing it all the way around. Bo Champ from deep and the rebound to Traor and Saraf on the floor together. Multiple ball handlers for Brooklyn. Timmy ducks inside and scores. Always been elite at getting good position for that entry pass. Now we see it right now. Good. Trayor’s got his eyes up. Looks around, finds it. Good job of getting position. Drew Timmy gets his hands up, scores it. Good wide post up inside of that paint. Way too easy if you’re Bo Champ, but a good play for Timmy to get on the board. 26 points a pop in his first two games. 30 a piece against the Wizards on Sunday, a game the Nets lost 102 to 96. Yeah, I said 28 to start the game. That ripped off somebody’s two points. Whoever that is, I apologize. 26 28. It’s a lot. No matter how you slice it. Absolutely. Those two points matter to somebody. Yes, they do. There’s Saraf gliding in a little too hard off glass, but that’s too easy. They’re getting into the paint way too easy right now if you’re Brooklyn. Kick maybe an early one there. Six minutes to play in the first. Game tied at six as Kick deflects that into the stands. Good job. I like that Ter Tyler’s aggressive right here. Good solid start. NBA 2K26 Summer League is proudly sponsored by NB Tom. and Melanie Ricks. I’m Drew Carter. Thanks for hanging out with us here as the Nets and the Knicks try to pick up their first win of the week. As they were walking out, uh saw Drew Timmy motioned whoever’s up in the stands that got his attention and pointed to his back. So, we’re going to keep an eye on that right now. He’s been playing a lot and scoring a lot. Yeah. Not He obviously is not as great a movement right now, so we’ll see. Now, Saraf goes right to the hole and you mentioned that early, Tom. It seems like it’s going to be easy for Brooklyn to get to the basket. play and too easy right now. Way too easy. But Saraf can do that. And he obviously going to the left is a strike, but pretty good. Nice play by Kohic. Finds Bo Champ. Missed the three. Bo Champ’s shots are short because he’s not down low enough ready to shoot. The ball is straight, but it’s short. Got to get more lift on his jumper. Nelson driving kick. Ben Sarath for three. Comes up short. It was on line. Great play for the offensive rebound by Quincy Olive. Nelson down low. tried to spin it home and he draws the foul on James Naji. Really good pass. Drew Timmy’s back may be hurting right now, but that was a heck of a pass, right? He found him. Grant Nelson has got to be one of those guys. He’s got to be tremendous in the corners and in the baseline and driving the game. But the ball gets kicked out. Great save. Timmy’s there. They’re just ball watching and all of a sudden there’s Grant Nelson scoring on the other side or getting fouled on the other side, I should say. Well, maybe Naji can help the Knicks protect the rim a little bit better. That’s why they brought him in. He was the 31st pick in the draft a couple of years ago, but hasn’t played in the league yet. That I loved watching him last year for the draft. Loved it. I mean, he’s a really young guy, but there is all kinds of upside for him. He’s 20 years of age, 611, 250. There there is a lot in there. I will not shock me at all to see him be an NBA player. Maybe not just yet, but it’s coming. Corner three off the mark. And here comes Olive. Guy’s got some NBA experience. Spent last year with the Lakers. Timmy turns the corner. Can’t finish. Naji’s got it for the Knicks. They’re definitely letting the bigs push it here for New York on this summer league team. If you get it, you take it. Kicking off balance. Fade away false touch. That’s where he’s good. He gets in that paint. He reads situations. He’s so good because he can drive and kick, but he can drive and score. And building that little one foot runner floater game at the NBA level will be big for him. There’s a steal for Kick. Catch and go ahead to Bo Champ. Great feed from Tyler Kick. And that’s Bo Champ’s game. Create something defensively. Be aggressive. Get out and run. Be a guy that can get up the floor before everybody else. And then come down here and get after people defensively. Timmy, the drive. What a finish from Drew Timmy. It’ll count. Plus a foul. See, that’s a play where James Naji, he’s standing straight up when Tumi Tumi catches it, which is just a great read by Timmy. We don’t see the catch, but we see the finish. He had him behind him. That is an outstanding finish. That’s where Timmy is so good. Mark F had him in a ton of fake handoffs to drives and elbow actions and all those types of things. So, that’s very, very natural for him. He’s got such a knack for finishing around the basket, too. Yeah, he really does. Now, this is where he’s got to finish. He’s got to become a He was not a great three-point shooter at all in college, and he hasn’t been so far this tournament or in the pros. He’s three for 10 on threes coming into today. 0 for one so far in this game. But Timmy’s up to five points, matching Kick for the top score. You got four minutes left to play in the first. Pick slipping too easy. You got to set a pick and try to create some separation for the ball hammer. Naji a little out of control, but it works. Yeah, you a lot of these teams when they started their camps, they worked on the roll game and the slip game more than they worked on the pop and the shooting game. And you can’t get away from that if you’re out here after the Timmy miss. A foul on the rebound against Dre Davis of Brooklyn. Let’s see. Great drive right here. Drops his shoulder, scores, keeps his eyes up. looked a little unorthodox, but he used the board. The board bailed him out. He gets the basket. Bo Champ lines it up. Slow start for him offensively now. 0 for four from downtown. Well, it’s a slow shot and and that that’s what some of it is. It’s not a quick catch and go and that’s why it’s straight, but all his misses have been short. Drew Oliver spins past Kick and gets fouled. He is so quick with that spin. that that’s something that obviously he’s brought to the NBA uh from his career overseas. He can spin both ways and and it’s it’s a hard spin to get because it’s so tight to his body, he’s been well schooled in that and at his size with that quickness, you can see why Shawn Marks and the Brooklyn Nets wanted to bring him in. Yeah, he’s a real he’s a real upside guy. I mean, there’s there’s no question about it, but he’s played a lot of basketball. He’s improved a ton in a year. He’s just not a confident shooter yet, but that will come. But the fact right now that he’s getting into the paint anytime he wants says a lot about his mindset, but it also says something about the Knicks defense. Reminder that summer league action continues in Las Vegas on NBA TV, ESPN, and the ESPN app. Tonight, you get Philly and Washington at 8:30 Eastern. Then Golden State and Memphis to wrap it up. And then tomorrow, Phoenix in Minnesota at 5, followed by Orlando and these Brooklyn Nets. Zarov missed the second. Soaring in for the rebound. Ding P 28 in white and orange. Finds Kick running the show here. So right now they’re playing in traffic. Just a bad pass. Yeah, Ben Zarov takes it. Piler in the punch for the rookie. He’s got seven. Antel Watson was standing straight up. Looks right at the receiver or looks right at the defender. That’s an easy steal. Ah, defensive 3 seconds again. And again, Brooklyn cheering the call. I guess they really want to patrol the paint today. Absolutely. But they’re reading passing lanes. The passing of the Knicks is not there yet, but the steels are there. Jordan is sitting over here to our right, James Dolan and Mike Brown sitting to our left in the Subway series match up as Koolic drains his second three of the first quarter. Now that’s a simple thing with Tyler Kohic, but it makes a lot of sense if you’re a basketball player. He pounded his last dribble. All right, so when you pound that last dribble as low as as the lowest of the dribbles and you go straight up, get great balance on that three. Olivera kicked it out to Dre Davis. Missed the three. Watson brings it up. Pestered by Davis. There goes Kohic. Tries it again. Comes up short. Naji the offensive rebound but called for the foul as he tried to secure it. That’s three fouls already on James Naji in just four minutes. But you get 10 fouls before you’re DQed. Yeah, he did. He pushed him. There’s no He earned that call. All right. I mean, you can’t you can’t go two hands. If you’re going to push, you got to push lower in the back, right? And you can’t be pushing with two hands. Some of the rules are different in summer league. That’s not one of them. You’re not allowed to do that. That’s That’s the way it is. Troy on the stop. Col jumped the passing lane again. One-on-one with Davis. Oh, he slow played it. That was nice. 11 points for Tyler Kolick in the first quarter. TJ Bomba in the lane. Pull up. Jumper goes. Yeah, it’s a good play. TJ Bomba’s played very, very comfortable with the ball here. played for Washington State, played for Villanovavva, finished his career at Oregon, now here battling away with the Nets summer league team. Here’s Luca Shuka from the corner and the guy from Slovenia has his first three points. Lookie pursuing the ball, man. That’s it’s a good looking corner three from Luca. Trayor can’t finish. Cleaned up. Tyrese Samuel. I like him a lot. You know, he played at Satan Hall and then he went to Florida. He was a big part of Todd Golden’s team a year ago. Went to camp with the Suns. Didn’t make it as Samuels got that wingspan. 73 and a half. Olive. Final minute of the first. Knicks by two. Kick spin the engine with 11 of their 21 points. Here’s D Pate, formerly of the G-League Ignite. Kick has it with five. Is that the good screen Kick the skip, a whistle, and a foul against the Nets. It’ll be side out for the Knicks. See, that’s something Tyler Kick needs more of right now. He needs more of a screen so he can take on find a gap rather than a slip, right? And when you get the guy open, I mean, then he can get in the paint, make a pass like that. It was that was a good look. Is that one of those things, Tom, where you got to you got to show that you’re going to set the screen first and then you can start slipping it later in the game. Absolutely. But no, I think you can do both, but when you’re in a set position like they were right there, you want to give him the screen and it’s just reading the game. Cole gets bailed out by a whistle. Fouled shooting a three by Samuel. Yeah, that’s not that’s not a smart play. I mean, that switches out, but he was never on balance in that situation. Jumped right into it. Yeah, you just you’re behind it. All right, then you step into it. You can’t lunge. You can’t lunge and broad jump into the shooter. You’re never ever in in this NBA gonna get rewarded for that. It’s always going to go to the shooter. So, Kolic with 11 points and two assists already. We talked about his struggles this week off the top. He was 1 for13 Sunday against Boston. 0 for six on threes. He’s had four assists, but four turnovers and was a minus 25. What are you seeing that’s different about him early in this game? Confidence. Got a chance to see him before the game because I’ve known him for a while now since he was at Marquette. confidence and and not trying to make passes that aren’t there, not trying to get into the paint with nowhere to go. A lot of his turnovers right now have been trying to make a spectacular pass rather than make the simple pass. And and this is not your this is not OG and Muel Bridges out there with you right now. So you got to be sure on where you’re at, but I see way more confident. It’s like anything else. We made an early shot. You make an early shot changes your whole game. Native of Rhode Island, Big East player of the year at Marquette. 34th pick in the draft last season. Did not get a lot of burn trying to make an impression here in the summer league. Shot clock is off for Brooklyn. Trayor out at the top of the key with 10 seconds left. Uses the Samuel screen. Switched on to the big man Hucki. Tori left him in the dust. Missed the shot cleaned up by Samuel. Tyrie Samuel. Right place, right time. Two times in a row. Ooh, Kick almost buried that. When you’re hot, you’re hot. And Tyler Kick certainly was in the first quarter with 14 points and a couple of dimes. Knicks by three. Hey. Hey. Hey. Nice touch to be in that organization, played early in the year, uh to being in practice, being in the G- League, he’s gained a ton of confidence in a year’s time. That was a foul the other day and probably yesterday too as well, Drew. Not today, though. challenged the passport got away with it. And then a missed layup by Samuel. Here’s Diwir 6′ 10 out of France. Get it reversed. You’re living on one side. Day Grant tried to bounce it to Shuka out of bounds. Yeah, that’s not the offense. All right, that’s a one pass play. That’s That’s not good offense right there if you’re Grant. You’ve got to do a much better job of that. But look at this. There’s good recovery. Dra goes up. Really good timing by Ariel Hakori. knocks it away and then here comes the drive. Goes up strong. Nice touch with the left hand over the front of the rim. Good little sequence for Ariel. There’s Bochamp. Gets around Triayor. Rejected by Samuel using those long arms. Stays here with eight to shoot. Yeah. Now, I like that move for him because that’s what he’s got to do. The problem is he had his eyes down on the move and that’s where you got to recognize what you have there. You know, either pull up early, pump fake, or make the kick because he took it right into the defense. Four on the 24 for Day Grant. Got to make something happen in a hurry. Tori got a piece of that and a foul is called. I tell you, Day Grant can sell fouls. Yeah. And you don’t want to foul him there because he’s he he’s not great off the dribble with his shot because he fades so easy on this inside of it. But the hands are active. Yeah, he’s going to go back. He sold it. No question about that. Joyari was reacting late to it. That’s just part of being a rookie where you got to be down. You There is no time to relax when you’re guarding the ball. Time out on the floor. Grant to the line when we return. I do it. Heat. Heat. Pzel popping the green light special on this foul call against Traayor. Challenging the shot by Day Grant late in the clock. I mean, certainly some embellishment, but is there enough to overturn this? And you can hit his hand, you know, as he releases. It’s it’s like the foul throwing the hand out. After review, the defensive foul on Trayori has been changed to an offensive foul on Grant for an abnormal late kick that takes Trayori out of normal play. The challenge is successful. Brooklyn has charged their timeout, but they have the right to challenge once more. It’ll be Brooklyn ball on the side with 24 seconds on the shot clock. So, a very successful challenge. Not only do they get the foul taken off of Trayor, but it’s added to Dayday Grant, the offensive foul. Well, they’re doing a real good job. The referees are. And I I don’t know if I necessarily agree with this. All right. He just kicks out. I mean, but um that could have been a no call to be honest with you, but they called the shot. I don’t think he truly got kind of how he shoots the ball, you know. There’s not enough uh there’s not enough straight up and down with Grant’s shot. There goes Olive over Huck Porty for two. Nice play. This guy, whether it was Rice or whether it was Xavier with Shawn Miller, he gets baskets. Can score a ton of ways and he get him off his defense as well. Yeah, deflection there for Olive. Leaves it for TJ Bomba. And Kick back in the game after his dynamite first quarter. 14 points for Tyler Kohlick. Hooks the pass out to Bochamp. Still can’t get a three to fall now. 0 for five. foul against Brooklyn on the rebound. Well, he definitely has has been has been given the confidence level to take those shots, which is what you want to see out of him in summer league. But it but until that release gets a little bit quicker, gets a lift a little bit quicker, it it’s not going to be a consistent shot. I mean, that that has to happen for him if he’s going to make those cuz again, there’s another shot that’s short. Diwara matched up with Nelson. Stolen by Olive again. That’s two in a row for Quincy Oliviveri. He’s fouled and free throws are coming for the former Xavier Musketeer. He’s an all-around player. I mean, he gets a lot of credit for his offense and his shooting and getting to the rim, but he can defend and and he’s strong. You can just see it. Obviously a little stronger now than he even was in college, but that’s a tough chest to beat through and he’s doing a great job in that situation of reading the ball handler dribbling the ball too high. 41. They get summer league championship rings. Yes, they do. Can’t beat it. I mean, if Warren Leg is running an event will be handed out. Yeah. It’s going to be it’s going to be first class no matter what. They don’t miss anything in this summer league. They have so many great people that they’ve hired to be a part of this. Whether it’s ushers, whether it’s people that bring the score sheets over great setup between Warren and Albert Albert Hall. This is the 20th edition of the Vegas Summer League. That’s the play as a short roller. You’re wide open that and you’ve got a good push shot. All right. That’s not one of those situations where you’re looking to take on the defender and make the next kick. Take your push shot and knock it down. He’s already made one shot around the bucket right there. That’s the next play. The Knicks and Tom Fibido did such an unbelievable job with Isaiah Hartstein before he left this year in that short roll game and look what he did in Oklahoma City. So that’s something they teach well in New York. I was told Tibs didn’t develop his players well, but that that must be in. You didn’t hear that from me. So, I don’t know. I don’t know where I People that aren’t watching practice are watching him develop play. Correct. Here comes Bo Champ. Kick for three. That’s good, man. Tyler Koh is balling. Beautiful shot. Talking a little bit to the Nets’s bench, too. Now, if we get a chance to see that again, that’s incredible lift on his shot. No dip, no drop. Ready to shoot it. Great corner three. Knicks by two. Kix’s got 17 of their 29. And he scored early. I cannot emphasize enough how important that is when you’re not playing great to get an early bucket. Now watch the release on this shot. I get jacked up seeing things like this. Okay, the ball gets swung. He made the pass. He ends up in the corner. Gets his feet set. Quick release. Hold his foul. Look at him finish with his eyes. And then he’s got something to say to the Nets’s bench on the way through. That is a beautiful shot. That is where Tyler Kohic has improved. The release is higher. The follow through is cleaner and he gets on balance a little bit quicker. Olive has scored the last six for Brooklyn. Saraf back in the game. Valive on the bench. Three-pointer wouldn’t go from Daniels. Nelson ends up with it and is fouled. That’s the third oneand rebound we see in this game. instead of going with two and securing the ball where the one hand goes, it becomes a loose ball and it goes to the other team. That that’s the fundamental stuff that you got to be really really good at. You cannot go into traffic like that and go with one hand. It just doesn’t work that way. That’s a second foul on Hucky. You look at Nelson’s numbers. This is a guy who at 6’11 set the combine record for the shuttle run which tests your agility and your change of directions. He’s got it in him. His his weaknesses in college were were defending the post and uh he can score the post. He it was it was even harder for him to defend the post than it was the perimeter, but he can score. He can pass it. He’s definitely going to be a good three-point shooter from the corner. He’s got that. Nate Oaks did a fantastic job with that. Defending in the post, is that as simple as adding more muscle? No, it’s more with him. I think a lot of it is technique. I think a lot of he plays too low and he doesn’t play with his hands enough, but he gets sealed and ducked in, especially in college because he wasn’t up high enough to take the duck in or to take the post up. So, it it’s and obviously there’s not a ton of post ups in the NBA day in and day out, but for him it’s being low, it’s being up higher, and it’s having a better anticipation of what’s coming when especially when it comes to guarding somebody in the post. Bo Champ was fouled by Bomba. Marjan Bo Champ will go to the line for two. Now, if Grant Nelson wants to improve his post defense, just defend Drew Timmy in these summer league practices. That’s good practice. Yeah, absolutely. Because Timmy can post, but Timmy can drive it. So, like you got to be able to to really move your feet, slide, you stay in front of it with a change of direction, especially big on big. You got to play like there’s no help coming your way and just stay down and guard it and then have your hands ready to challenge a pass or a little floater. Bo Champ two for two at the stripe. See those that ball comes nice off his hand. He gets good lift. He’s not that far away from being a good shooter. You just got to get quicker. Quicker release. Nicks with some fullcourt pressure. Diara got a hand on it. Saraf ends up with it. Bounce pass for Bomba and he scores. That’s college Bomba right there being down in that baseline being really really good on the break driving it or being down low corner to baseline area. Tyler Kick is smoking. He’s got 20 in the first half. Yeah, if you’re Drew Timmy and you want to be in the NBA, you got to put your hands up there. I mean, that was an open three on the break for Tyler Kick. He shot it well, but it was wide open. Oh, what a turnaround for Kick here. It’s all in his feet. He had started early with the with making a couple shots, but he’s on balance right now. He’s not trying to make plays that aren’t there, and he’s ready to shoot the ball. Low shot clock and Timmy’s calling for the travel. Now, Kolic is putting some clinic type actions together here today. Eyes are up. Nice last dribble. Knocks it down. Good step. It’s too easy. I mean, there’s no question he’s great. Cell’s going the other way. Hands are down on Timmy. Raises up. Holding his follow through. Every highlight we show of Kohic, he’s finishing with his eyes. He’s not pulling those eyes out. He’s watching it go through the pucket. It’s great that he’s doing this for him today in front of Mike Brown as well cuz you want to leave this summer league having Mike Brown feel good about you on this roster. Hey, lost the handle. Not there. Not there. You’re spinning into traffic and Sar just lost it out of bounds. It a sloppy back and forth there. You know, if there’s anything teams that are reversing the ball, obviously they’re getting some break baskets, but the teams that are reversing the ball one side to the other. I mean, it that’s that’s the key today because the help defense is is right there waiting on you when you bring it up and try to isolate. Great pass. Yeah. Kick with the fine and Kate can’t finish. Challenged by Nelson and Saraf stays here with New York. Yeah, Kick’s vision now is is tremendous. It always has. That’s a great look. There’s no pressure on the ball. You always got to make sure you say that. You want to go to the other side of the rim if you think Payton can get that one. Off that two hand comes up short this time. Nelson working against Naji. And the foul is on James Naji. And that’ll be his fourth. Yeah, if you’re this group of bigs with the Knicks right now, you want to show that you can guard pick and roll. You want to show that you can guard in a switch, guard the ball, you can help and recover, that you score around the paint, certainly that you will rebound, and and then anything from an added bonus of being able to handle the ball and pass it on the move is that’s gravy. But you got to have those other things. Got to be able to guard the pick and roll. Daniels knifing down the lane for two. He did a good job. He got better at Sou Falls playing in the Miami Heat organization a year ago. He was always one of my favorites to watch at Villanova. Lob it up. Throw it down. Kick to Dawara. Diawara is an impressive looking athlete and he puts that ball down like he’s had some good training coming over. He’s not ready to handle it in an NBA game yet, but he’s had some really good training in his background. Second round pick this year for the Knicks. Kix’s got another steal. That’s four. Run of the break. Back to Pate. Steps into it. Four-point lead for the Knicks with three minutes to play in the first half. Here goes Caleb Daniels. Nice pass. Yeah. Finds Nelson for the deuce. Really good pass. Caleb Caleb is a tough player. I mean, he he can score. Played great offenses at Villanovavva. There’s Timmy’s showing Kohic. A long one. Oh, Tyler Koh. That’s a bomb. Those are textbook looking jumpers he’s shooting right now. When you need to get Tyler Kick’s confidence back somewhere in the middle of the season, bring out this game. That is a 26-footer. Timmy to Sarra down low. Can’t score. Rebound out to Naj. You got to get in the hands of 13 right now. Yeah. And they haven’t even found him. Oh yeah, that’s not recognized in the situation. Get it reversed immediately. You’re over handling. That’s not happening to Jaylen Brunson. Pay blocked by Timmy. How about Drew Timmy closing the gap. Daniels in the corner. Davis for three. That’s good. Great play. Dre Davis had a excellent final year playing for Chris Beard at Old Miss. Was outstanding in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Played at Satan Hall in Louisville before that. Three schools is kind of the median for pretty much guys at summer league. Kick that time. It’s no good. He started his career at George Mason before he went to Marquette. Became one of the best players in the country. Saraf no one stopped the ball. He missed it. Nelson cleans it up and New York wants a timeout. Jordan Brink and his team will talk it over in a tie game with a buck 24 to play in the first half. The New York teams going at it. With Wet AMD, I worry I’m losing sight of the world around me. Ah, hey. the story with 23 points, more than half of the total for New York. Ball movement, the baseline drive from Dawara who just soarses in. He is a very confident player. That was a great drive out of the corner. No wasted dribbles all the way to the rim. They got out. They had nothing going. One extra pass makes something good every time. Timmy’s three ball is well short. Kick all the way ahead to Bo Champ. The catch release. Corner three missed. Jamal Bay couldn’t put it in. See if the Nets try to go two for one here. Saraf just throws it into the New York bench. This has been tightly contested. Neither team has led by more than five. Give him a screen. Force the switch. There you go. Now Nelson defending Kick. Kick on a bullet for Bo Champamp. again can’t hit the three. Nelson collects the rebound, throws it ahead to Saraf who wasn’t looking. Now he’s got it with 5 seconds left in the quarter. Saraf not even close. Yeah, wasted possession. You get the ball there, just go to the middle. Heat. Heat. I’m a Heat. Heat. I’m It is a pleasure to be joined by the busiest man in the NBA right now at ESPN’s front office insider Bobby Marks. Bobby, you’re not only here for summer league, but you got your sports business classroom. Why don’t you tell us a little bit about what you’re doing over Yeah, we have 140 students in the lower bowl of uh of Thomas and Mack and it’s uh a pretty a diverse group of people want to learn the salary cap, athlete representation, media broadcast, scouting, video analytics. We have a session going on right now where we have the WNBA players association downstairs breaking down. Certainly the CBA which is going to be long and anticipated. I am I am all over the place. I am all over the place. And uh we’ve had we yesterday we had Sam Prey, we had Kenny Atinson, we had Austin Reeves. Uh we have Kiki Vandereay, we have a litany of people that are coming in and we certainly like to uh you know certainly breaking down the salary cap into nuances and a lot of a lot of people want to learn about how this business runs. Well, they can’t learn because you’re the only guy who understands it right now. So you’ve got the best job security in the world. Well, you know, it’s funny and I’m want you guys just introduced Tyler Koko who’s got 23 points and I’m thinking, you know, and I watch him. I have my CBA hat on also because here’s a Knicks team that has spent some money and it’s a team that we talked about when the season ended that they need some depth and when you look at what they were able to do with Jordan Clarkson and Gersian Yabiselli they’re going to need a player like Tyler Kohic from a guard standpoint they need they don’t have many young players on this roster when you look at Kohic and Ariel Hakport uh young players like that and if he can crack if he can crack their rotation that’s going to be an added bonus for them and if they’re really looking to push the ball and throw the ball ahead on offense would you would think is going to happen with Mike Brown. It’s just going to be a matter of how consistent they can get it. He’s perfect for that as well. Well, that’s right. And I and I think the added dimension with bringing Mike Brown on is you have it’s twofold. You can look at what he did in Sacramento as far as having the the best offense in in his the year he won rookie uh coach of the year. And then what he looked at what he was able to do in Cleveland during those LeBron uh years when that defense was really really good. And I think spacing is going to be key as far as certainly where how Cole can kind of crack into that rotation. How different do you think it might look though under a new coach because it was very isolationheavy with Jaylen Brunson. That’s what he’s good at. How much do you think Mike Brown will try to change that? I think they have to. I mean, I know that’s Jaylen Brunson’s bread and butter as far as certainly we saw that at the end of we saw that at the end a lot of the series Detroit series. It’s funny the the game-winning shot. We all applauded him for that, but there was like three possessions before that where it really became ISO heavy here. And this is a unique situation because he’s walking into this win now roster when you look at Brunson and Bridges and and certainly Josh Hart and Carl Anthony Towns and OGN and Obi and you return your two top rotational players with Mitchell Robinson um and um certainly Duce McBride also they get to a conference finals and anything but I would think it will be uh certainly a disappointment. Well, really, in all honesty, you can bring back Red Holtzman, okay? And if they don’t throw the ball ahead and and and play more in transition and and they’ve got to get away from one action, one shot. I mean, the ball has got to move. And that’s Mike Brown’s forte. But at the end of the day, as good as Jaylen is, he’s a, in my opinion, he’s a much better player when he’s not only pushing the ball, but where the ball is moving because there’s so many times when he’s handling that everything is built to stop him because uh it’s it’s not necessarily going to be passed. Well, I mean, listen, there’s a reason why they went out and got Carl Anthony Towns in that trade before the start of the season in in uh in Minnesota. And there’s a reason why Carl is a, you know, second team allNBA type player. And when you have a player like that and and you certainly have the wings with Bridges and Anobi, you’ve got to take advantage of those players. I’m with you. I mean, if it’s Jaylen Brunson is so good that you really should never measure him based on his points. You measure him based on his efficiency, the ball moving ahead, getting offense no matter what. They’ve got to get better moving that ball from side to side, utilizing their players. They’ve got great wing runners, right? OG Anobi can get up the floor. Bridges can get up the floor. Hart can get up the floor. McBride can get up the floor. Well, those guys can also make plays in the half court. And I think for them to take the next step, I don’t know where you’re at on this, Bobby. Jaylen has almost got to get more off the ball catches rather than drive it into the paint and everything starts and finishes with him. No, I agree. And and the the the interesting thing is this Eastern Conference, you know, New York really didn’t do much at all and they relied on continuity and certainly bringing on a new coach, but this Eastern Conference, as you know, is man, this thing is wide open. Certainly what’s happened in Boston and uh Indiana who we probably thought was a favorite here. Milwaukee, we’ll see what happens with their roster. They have certainly some new pieces here. Them and them and Cleveland are probably the two favorites I would think going into this season. Bobby, what’ you make of the Damen Lillard being wave waved and stretched by the Bucks and then bringing in Miles Turner? I would have I would I would have done the wave and stretch because I think when where Milwaukee is and certainly there’s been a lot of talk about Giannis and I think when you have a a generational player like Giannis on on your roster, you do everything possible to try to surround as much talent around and they did not have many options outside of doing the wave and stretch to clear up, you know, $27 million in cap space to go out and sign Miles Turner. Now, can you make the argument with was Miles Turner the guy to go out and spend $107 million? I you know, some people say maybe no. Maybe you take that and break it up into three players and some say yes. And I think I think watching Milwaukee last year in that Indiana series and how they played well in that game five when they lost and certainly some of the games they’re thinking, wait a minute, we take Brook Lopez out of the lineup, we replace him with Miles Turner, we still bring back Gary Trent. uh you brought back Ryan Rollins and Gary Harris, some of the other um young player, other players on that roster that we can compete in this Eastern Conference that all of a sudden is wide open. Man, as it pertains to Lillard, first of all, how does it work when he gets stretched? Does the Does the new team have to pay part of his salary? Yeah. So, he’s owed um you know, certainly the $13 million that’s being stretched over. Milwaukeee’s on the hook right now. If Damen Lillard never played a game, he Milwaukee is responsible for that. If he goes back and let’s say signs with a team like Portland, there is going to be some type of set off as far as what Milwaukee is owing him right now. Not the full amount, but there is a setup here. There’s Bo Champ again. Hit his first three of the game earlier in this quarter. Starting to heat up now. He’s got 12 points. You know, it’s almost like he he decided, you know what, I’m not jumping on my shot. All right, I’m not getting great rotation on the ball. It’s a little fat. I’m going to change all that right now. That’s how he’s playing. Well, you know what’s interesting too with Marjan Bo Champamp is that we see this every year, coach, and we every year there’s 60 players that get drafted and he was a player that goes first round a few years ago and now he’s a he’s a player that’s fighting for just to try to stay into in this league. No, no question about it. And I mean, and he’s it’s good to see him come out and do this cuz he’s missing wide open shots in the first half. And a lot some it’s the rotation, the way it comes off his hand, but a lot of just not getting enough lift on his shot and that and the the quicker the lift, the quicker the bringing the ball up. That’s what he’s got to get. And he’s got to, as you know, Bob, he’s got to prove that he can really be an efficient scoreer in the paint. Well, Bob, your old team, we’re watching the Nets. They used five first round picks. First team in NBA history to do that. How surprised were you that they made all those picks? I wasn’t. And the funniest thing was Thursday morning we did our pre-production meeting for the draft. And I went in there and I said, “Be prepared that Brooklyn’s going to take all five picks.” And everybody looked at me like I was crazy. And as soon as the when the draft happened and little by little everyone they kept on and they’re looking at me like I’m telling you they’re prepared because what had happened is, you know, Brooklyn has not been really picking in in the first round. They had, you know, gone the Kevin Durant way and Kyrie Irving and they traded a bunch of picks for James Harden. And if you’re you’re book and you’re looking at it, wait, we we just made up for three years lost of draft picks here with five picks. It is an unorthodox approach as far as what they went out and did, especially when you you get basically four bit, you know, wings and guards and and Danny Wolf is your lone big as far as out of that group here. But this fits their system as far as developing these young players. They’re going to have their own pick in 2026. They’re likely going to finish in the lottery again. Uh hopefully they get another crack at a top pick here and then next off season start bringing in some maybe some established veterans here. On the drive it’s Anton Watson. Second round pick of the Celtics last year waved during the year playing now for the Knicks in the summer league. Ties the game at 52. Here’s one of those five first round picks. Nolan Triori out of France. Over to Grant Nelson. That’s the shot he’s got to make stick in the NBA. There’s so many calls. Great hustle. That’s a terrific play from Nelson showing you the quickness, but Bochic’s feeling it here in the third. He really is. He’s He’s uh He looks like a different athlete out here right now. I mean, with the lift and the confidence, but again, he saw his first shot go down second half. Grant Nelson, if you’re going to stick in the NBA, as Bobby knows as well as anybody, you have got to be a consistent corner three-point shooter. You have to have some type of skill. You know, some guys want to come in this league and defend and as far as that’s their identity, he’s got to make shots. Drew Timmy wants to score. He’s doing a lot of that this week. He’s going to the line when we come back. Stick around, Bobby. Sounds good. All right, let’s do it. More from Bobby Marks when we come back. This melty white American cheese is the luckiest and this that really stands out for me. Well, I think Dillingham is he’s he’s got to break some of those habits of where you try to take shots because you always could in high school. John Caliperry did a pretty good job of harnessing that and I’m sure they did it last year, but it’s almost like he’s out here and he’s trying to make plays that aren’t there. You’re not going to make those plays for the Temple. Well, the thing that concerns me with this is is his size. No question. That is the big thing, you know, you know, certainly a smaller guard and not just from a height standpoint as far as from how how frail he is. Yeah. And he’s definitely I know you saw him in college in high school. He looks like a different player than what he did in high school, but uh without a doubt, he’s going to crack that rut. TJ Shannon, that looks like a guy that’s going to crack the rotation. And Barry G was one of the most unheralded guys when you think about it. He’s 20. He he’s played basketball since 2021. and he comes out here, you you can’t get caught up in what his stats are like either because if he can get to the point where he can play at the rim, get the lobs, defend in the pick and roll, even adequate, it’s going to give him an opportunity there. What about Leonard Miller? You think he’s got a shot to crack the rotation? Well, you know, time is running out. I mean, you know, basically he’s going into I believe it’s year four um with Minnesota here and he’s got an opportunity. I do think there is an opportunity for him because he when he came out of um you know he was so underdeveloped and this has kind of been this has almost been like going to college for the last you know two or three years for him. So I do think it’s I think it’s it’s so important when you look at these teams whether it be Minnesota teams that spend have a significant payroll. Phoenix is another team that the young players are going to have to pop. I mean, that’s why OKC is in a position where it’s going to be able to sustain this for a long time because they do have so many draft picks coming and they do have so many younger players. Certainly Chad and Jaylen and and Shay, but Kase Wallace, you look at um Nicole Topic, who I’ve really liked as far as what he’s been able to do is kind of spray the ball around. Um that’s that’s how you sustain it is when with your younger players. tell our viewers again a little more with with Tobich because he’s come out here and he’s showed very little rust. I Yeah, you know, it’s funny. I talked to um this was in after the Utah summer league. I had talked to a scout and I asked if Topic was in this year’s draft and he was he was drafted last year, but he had an ACL injury and Oklahoma City knew that and they basically said, “We’re going to we’re going to rehab you for the year and we’re going to wait to showcase you the following year.” I had a scout tell me that he would have been a top five pick in this year’s draft. And you look at a Thunder team that returned every player on a team that just won um you know won the NBA championship and you have Topic and then you have Thomas Sorber who they can they can develop who out of Georgetown for a little while but his position of size at 66 and he’s up to 215 right now. I think he came in at 195. He is a strong big guard. They did a great They must do an incredibly good job uh not only with the players that are playing in development but also with him because you go back and you watch what he did overseas. He handled the ball. He was a point guard. He made decisions. He wasn’t playing over there nearly as fast as he’s playing right now for Oklahoma City and he’s in control doing it. Well, you know, it’s funny. We we were we talked about sports business classroom and Sam Prey um their architect came in and um talked to our kids really about breaking into sports and stuff like that and and one of the students had asked you know tried to give the try him to get the secret sauce as far as how they do things and and certainly um you know we weren’t willing to go that direction here but they have done Oklahoma City has done a terrific job and you know as far as where they are right now and the players they have K Wallace is another player that was drafted by them. They’re going to have potentially four first round picks next year. It’s it’s an amazing situation as far as what they have in OKC. And then they get Barnheiser in the second round. And you never have to be worried if he’s going to play efficiently or play extremely hard and play on defense. And I think the shot I think the shot is underrated for Barnheiser back at Northwestern. He was dealing with a lot of injuries and I know he didn’t get to finish the season with them, but he was basically playing hurt through the year and I think he’s going to help him. Ding Pate hit a three on this side for New York as they lead by five with two and a half to play in the third quarter. How feasible is it for Oklahoma City to keep their roster together though on Well, you’re going to have to read about it tomorrow. I got an article coming out on that on Oklahoma City and some of these these higher spending teams. So, I I think if there’s any team that can defeat the apron, as we say, it’s going to be Oklahoma City. Come on, Bobby. Give us the leak. Give us the leak on the story. Oh, you got to have to wait. It’s It’s a positive article. I’m going to debunk the conspiracy theory that the apron is bad for the NBA. How’s that sound? All right, check it out. Bobby Marks. Thank you. Thank you. Domino’s best deal ever is back. Get any hand toss pants. in this graphic is the guide hand. The guide hand is far to on top and he and he’s got his hand on top of the ball where both thumbs should basically be in an intersection of shooting. And this is what it should look like coming off your hand. You get your hand behind the ball, index finger, middle finger. Thumb is not pushing, but the the thumbs intersect. You come off, you release. The guide hand stays straight. When he gets that much better shooter. Now, what you didn’t see at home is Tom was actually doing the same motion here at the booth as we watch that. You You should be an Instagram trainer. Lethal shooters on the hot seat if Tom Creed decides to do that. I love I love working with players on their shooting. We had whole bunch of them get better with it. But it’s you want to see people be successful and sometimes the the best thing for players is they and it’s a problem right now. They cannot be stubborn to a better way. And um very few people are training you that want to lose or want to see you lose. And you’ve got to be in a position where you will make those adjustments. You know, there’s too many stories of he can change it for a while but then reverts back to bad habits in two weeks. And you just got to be ahead of that. But that it it already looks better. Uh and I think it got better under Kevin Young in that staff during the year at BYU. It came off very straight, very knuckle ballish, but he’s really doing a better job. He’s raised uh the release point. He’s getting quicker. He’ll look so much different a year from now because he’ll be that much stronger in the lower body. He’ll be getting his release off that much quicker. Yeah, we’re not seeing him play today. Net’s playing on a back to back here. So, a couple guys were sitting out, but Gilman is 6 for 15 on threes through two games wearing a Nets uniform 40% of course a small sample size, but at BYU last year, 27%. That’s an area of his game that needs to improve. Wood has to. But he’s he’s one of those.5 players. He’s going to make a decision in.5. And I think speaking of Jagor, I thought some of the comments that Andre Karoleno, who he knows pretty well from overseas, had some great points about him. Like he’s he basically said, “You got to shoot more. you got to be more aggressive offensively rather than just looking to make a pass. And I think the Nets have addressed that out here in the games that he played. But this is going to be a work in progress. And Shawn Marks, I think, is is as it goes on really smart for picking him at eight. And Mike Schmidtz, who used to be at ESPN, now working for the Trailblazers, compared him to Luca once upon a time. And talking about Luca Donic, not Luca Shuka. That’s a little strong. The Luca Donic comparison is a little strong. Well, Jaor, I mean, bit of a prodigy, right? signed with Real Madrid when he was 15 years old. But the uh Mike also Hansen Yang, he was over there all the time for two years. He’s looking pretty smart in this tournament. Yes, Hansen Yang has been one of the big stars of this 2K26 summer league. And that was a pick that surprised everybody when it happened. Absolutely. Espec I think everybody knew he was going to get picked, but that was a late first somewhere in the second round type of look, but they saw something. Beaut’s in the eye of the beholder. Oh yeah. Final minute of the third. Knicks on a spurt here. 12-4. You know, can people want to compare Yang to Zack Edy and there’s big size and things like that, but Yang is not he’s not as ready as Zack Edi was to come in and defend in the pick and roll game and even in the closeouts because you’re going to be doing more and more of that all the time. That’s what’s going to take a little bit of time for him to get. But his offense and feel for the game. Oh, no question. And he finishes. I mean, he can he can score. He’s been well trained around that basket. Samuel, the offensive rebound for Brooklyn, puts it in to cut the lead to six. He’s a hustle player. He he had a excellent career at Satan Hall before he transferred off to Florida. He looks like a completely different player with his size. Definitely have done done a great job on his body this year. But what he does is, and this is another example of it, he’s in the right place, right time. He’s getting on the glass. There’s no blockout. Got away with the one-hand board, but then gets a great little touch shot in the middle of the of the lane. I just saw a Yang Blazers jersey walk by. Oh, we may. Yeah, we probably see a few tonight. They’ve already got him. Shuka at the line. Comes up short on the first. They got the hoodie place in there where you can go in and get your your own personalized hoodie. Really? Oh, we walked by it. The the hood the hoodie selection out there. You can go in and pick any team. Get get the hoodie any way you want. I didn’t check the price, but cuz I’m really not going back. What what do you think is more expensive? A personalized hoodie or a Backstreet Boys souvenir cup from the Sphere? Well, probably buying two of the of the cups of the Backstreet Boys concert, which would set you back about $60. Yeah, I don’t want to talk about it. Uh, don’t want to reveal that information. It was worth it. That’s all I’ll say. 6C difference, shot clock and game clock. Use the screen. You got to go. You got to go. Trore with four to shoot. the step back jumper. Rebound to Shuka above the trees. Trayori had the drive there. You know, he was size enough to get to step back, which is something he’s going to have to have. But when you get a switch like that and the player is bigger and you’ve got a live dribble, you’ve got to take him on and try to get to the basket. And if you don’t have it, means somebody helped. There’s going to be an open player. He he he predetermined his move here. Gets the ball. He’s not really looking. Brings it back. Brings it back. Keeps looking. gets the step back. Not a bad move, but he had a chance to get in the paint right away early with the Knicks in the bonus. Shuka to the line trying to give them a nine-point lead with 5 seconds left here in the third as both of these teams seek their first win of summer league. Juka played in Germany last year, a native of Slovenia, just like the other Luca, Luca Donic. Troy Bush in a hurry. Bush straight line drive. Missed the layup, but pretty good look at it with just 5 seconds left. He showed you speed, Drew. He showed you the speed. He can move it. Nine-point lead for Tyler Kick in the Knicks. He’s been the star today. He’s going to talk with Melody when we come back. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. N. We’re going to try to reload that later on in the fourth. Want to hear from Tyler Kick and he’s having his best game of the summer league by far. didn’t score in the third quarter though. Still has 23 points. Got his team on top 69 to 60. The skip, five to shoot, and a little push shot goes for Bales. It’s almost like Tyler Koh started the half to come out and shoot the ball rather than come out and play and drive it. And he definitely the shots weren’t bad, but he got this game going because he was on the attack. What hustle. That was Olive for Brooklyn and Diwara for the Knicks. Dawir is one of the most intriguing guys out here because he’s very comfortable handling the ball. He’s long. He can play in the corner. All right. He’s unafraid. Great scrap right there. Look at him come into the picture. Look at that first of the floor. I This guy sells out. He’s a hungry guy. You could see it in his film from overseas, but I didn’t know he could handle the ball like that and move his feet like that defensively. He got called for a foul there. Yeah, they’ll take that one. And that’s a hustle play. I would stand up, give him a standing ovation for being young, diving on the floor from where he came from. Just two points for Troy on one for eight shooting. He got tied up there with Kowali Bails. Not a shooting foul, I don’t think. And Trayaori is still down. You’re just catching his win. You know, a lot of people need just an extra moment of shut eyee after they spend a few days in Vegas. That that’s actually very relatable. But don’t take a nap early in the evening and think you’re going back to sleep at any point in time. That’s where I’ve been screwed up. Really? Well, the time change gets you. Yeah, buddy. You get in all of a sudden you’re tired. You take a nap. Now you’re up till 2 in the morning. But complaining. Some of us are up till 2:00 in the morning without a nap. Yeah, but I’m I’m just walking around my room. You’re walking around Vegas. Olive with the three. He’s up to 11 points. You are the good find and Naji the good finish plus the foul. Really good play. Watching these two play together Naji and uh is is excellent because right now when you’re in a position that they are okay with Mohamd Dwir and he can handle the ball, he can make plays. Look, drives those eyes up, finds a great job of spacing by Naji. He’s outside the paint, slides under the rim, gets it off. But credit, cuz Dior had a shot, but he had his eyes up the whole way, and they found the cutter. So, James Naji, 31st pick a couple of years ago, yet to play in the league. He spent last year playing in Turkey with FC Barcelona for three years before that. Impressive athlete. Bay on the drive and the step through. had it stripped. Here’s the athleticism of TJ Bomba and he scores and one. That’s a really good play. Heads up play. TJ Bomba is one of those hustle guys. He had a true baseline game in college. He could cut. He could drive it out of there. He could shoot it some. That’s a good drive. Kept control. Had the defender. Never slowed down. And he had the presence of mind to finish it while he was getting hit. Well, we won’t call him getting hit. He got the foul. Say that. We’re not saying it was a foul, but they called a foul. And you know that that’s something that’s become more invogue in the NBA, I feel like, in the last couple years, is a guy to play in that dunker spot along the baseline. Sometimes five out isn’t the best way to have spaces, right, coach? Oh, no question about it. And again, that the the dunker spot has always been a spot for bigs for so long that what what you see more and more in the NBA, Bruce Brown can play down there, Steph Castle can play down there. Drew, Drew Holiday was phenomenal. The Bucks with Mike Budnozer did a great job of utilizing that. Pat Conetan really good down there. It’s really hard. I loved putting the the point guard or the two guard down there because those other their matchups didn’t know how to defend it. Bay got it away but missed it out of bounds off of Brooklyn. It remains here with 14 to shoot for the Knicks. That’s why ball movement is so key because eventually if you’re moving it, there’s going to be some ball watching and and you can watch the ball on an ISO and not get beat. But when the ball is moving and you get caught watching, there’s the kickouts. And that’s what Dior showed on that first play to Nagu we saw a couple possessions ago. That is the official inbounds play of the Las Vegas summer league. Everybody has that screen to screener running that way. Ends up with Dawir on a mid-range jumper. He’s very confident for a young guy. That’s good looking shot. Good touch for Dir. He loves this. Plane, showing his length, getting down and guarding. Yeah, defending Saraf who got off to a hot start. Quiet lately. Timmy trying to spot up for a three. Top of the key. Saraf’s got five to shoot against Shuka. The spin. That’s his go-to. Good defense from Luca Shuka. Dawara dribbles into it. Offensive rebound. Good choice. Swing it back out and get something this if you can run good offense because the Knicks have be I mean sorry the Nets have become stagnant. Wally bails behind the back. Oh, a very good push into Shuka. Yeah, very good push. He had his eyes up. You see a lot of coming down the side and either going into some type of pistol with the other man in the corner. That that was a great job of being on the side and getting the ball to the middle of the field. A reminder that summer league action continues in Las Vegas on NBA TV, ESPN, and the ESPN app. Tonight you got Philly and Washington 8:30 on NBA TV. Then Golden State in Memphis. Tomorrow night these Nets play the Magic and before that the Wolves and the Suns. And Bobby Marks was talking about the the young guys for the Timberwolves. Dillingham, Shannon, maybe Leonard Miller, some of those guys might be able to crack the rotation, help them get over the hump, a team that’s been in the conference finals two years in a row. Yeah, I hope Dillingham can. I really do, but I’m not seeing it in this summer. And and uh again, the worst thing can happen to players sometimes when they come here is to try to play a role of shot volume that you’re not going to play on on the main club. And Dillingham has got to do a better job. That speed is ridiculous that he has. And there’s just too many times he settles or he shoots into a contested shot and he’s got to become better at that because he’s got all the athletic tools and competitiveness that you want. Well, they gave up a lot to get him, right? Couple of first round picks. Picked him at eighth in the draft. Didn’t play a whole lot as you saw in his rookie season. Here’s Bo Champ who had a great third quarter and he scores here in the fourth. Man, he looks like a different guy. He didn’t switch uniforms. Maybe switch suits cuz he’s a different dude. And then a great play from Jamal Bay forcing a Brooklyn timeout. This is a 13-point lead for New York, their largest of the game. Upset stomach, Iberogast. Indigestion, Ibureast. Bloating, Iberogast. Thanks to a unique combination of herbs, I Ah. Hey. Hey. First half good action, Timmy. Quick release. Yikes. Yeah, if you’re if you drew Timmy and you’re hurting a little bit, which I think is, you just got to move on, right? This is this is what people would be looking for right now. How’s he going to respond to not having a great game because it’s a winnable game. Six and a half left. Just bear down and show that you can impact the game in numerous ways. And it’s not just about the shot going in for three from downtown. Kick the lob. Oh, Dawara almost punched it with the left. I like though that Kick got in the paint. That’s where he’s got to finish this game. Don’t worry about your threes. Worry about the ball moving. Be in penetration. Get in that paint and then relocate for an open three. There’s Timmy. That’s more of his game. Babyio comes up short. And Marjan Bochamp coming the other way. He’s got 18 points. Just one for eight shooting threes. He got off to a slow start there. Much better in the second half. See that? We just saw it. I don’t see it at home. Bo Champ’s eyes are down. Like when you’re coming off that ball screen, you got to have your eyes out because you’re trying to make the pocket, but there may be somebody else open. You’ve got to catch the ball face up. See the whole floor and the Knicks want a timeout. So we’ll take it with him with 540 to play. NBA 2K26 Summer League is proudly sponsored by NBA 2K26, rated E for everyone. Heat. Hey. Hey. Hey. underrated part of coaching. He’s missing some shots. Okay, he’s wearing it on his face a little bit, but he catches it right here. Drives an attack. Great spin move. All right, Antoine Watson, it’s too easy. You got to get your hands out if you’re Anton Watson. But right there, Timmy finishes through. He’s so good around the basket. And Timmy completes the three-point play. Back to a 10-point game. Nick’s coming off a 51 and 31 season. Made it to the conference finals. going to find some guys who can help them in their rotation and maybe Marjan Bochamp is one of them. He’s making a good impression in the second half. He really is. I keep saying it’s the lift. He’s getting some lift. They’re not short. They’re in the front room. We It was just a matter of time when you’re missing all your shots short. He’s playing confidence. It’s good to see because he This is This is his fourth year, I believe. I mean, he’s ready to shoot it. It’s off quicker. He gets great lift as we saw right there. He does a pretty good job always of finishing his shot, but here he gets low, stays with it, keeps his eyes on the rim. Great, great open three. Timmy again. Again, it’s the spin and the and one for the stash. It’s the Markf Gonzaga offense flashback going on right now. Getting it to Timmy in the elbow area, letting him make those plays. He’s always had that spin. And he he was when he was in college, he was as good as anybody playing three-point line and in elbowing in with his offense. This is where it’s got to get better, Drew. He He’s got to be much better at the foul line consistently. Five for seven. Good one right there. Oh, yeah. Three of six coming into the day from the previous two. He had 30 against Oklahoma City a couple of days ago. Kick turns the corner, gallivanting to the basket. Missed it, but it’s cleaned up by Anton Watson. Timmy a little point center here. Olive gets in the lane, finds Saraf, attacks the close out, kick it outside. That’s good offense for Brooklyn. It leads to a three from Daniels. Yeah, he Caleb Daniels, man, he’s making it the hard way of 64 games at Sou Falls last year. I’d like to see them put Dior on uh Drew Timmy because right now he’s going anywhere where he wants Anton Watson. That’s a match up on this end. Dior defending Watson straight on. Olive trying to get around Bochamp. Now Sarra playing the point down the stretch of this game with the pass fake and then he’s fouled by Oh, offensive foul. Drew is not happy with that call. Telling the referees all up under his arm and his uh uh into his shoulder area. Watch his right arm here. Timmy’s hooked him. It’s a good call. It really is. I thought Luca was the only one that got away in the NBA with putting the ball over the opponent’s head. You should have to be an AllNBA team guy before you do that. He might be first team all summer league. It’s possible. This is his court. He’s still talking. Cas Beverly, the official who made that call. Well, he’s having a frustrating day and and they made those buckets which was big. It’s it’s a big 317. Don’t worry about the score right now. Guju Timmy, make sure that you show what you are capable of. No one will remember the score on these teams in a couple of weeks, but they will understand and remember what kind of impact you made, especially if it’s not going your way consistently. Well, it’s a good point, Tom, because you know, crunch time at these games, yes, the result might not matter as much, but what they do in crunch time in these high pressure moments, that does matter. There’s no question. And there’s there’s another good drive. He’s getting where he wants to go. But there’s no question about that. And and every possession you have, cuz we have very few people out there right now that we Tyler’s probably locked in uh to making the team. Saraf is a pick right there, but nobody else is locked in. Nobody else knows they’re going with that team. And that’s why you don’t want to waste any of these possessions. Whether you’re a draft pick, whether you’re a free agent, whether you’ve been overseas for 5 years trying to make it, everything out here matters. Bochamp started one for six. Six for his last 10 on the dime to Watson. He’s fouled by Saraf. And free throws coming for the former Gonzaga Bulldog. And a couple of Zags out there, Timmy and Watson. Yeah. line up. Mark F’s probably around here somewhere. I don’t know. But Drew Timmy is is trying to have too many conversations with the refs. You have you have to earn a certain level of place before it before you’re going at the refs like that. It just doesn’t make any sense. Don’t play frustrated. There’s no value in it. You have to have that conversation with some of your players. Absolutely. Absolutely. and and I even do now sometimes, you know, watching their games if they’re in the NBA. You’re going to get away with it more in the NBA, especially as you go up the ladder. But you better be really good, all right, not to get distracted from what you didn’t get last time, what they missed, what they did call. You got to be able to move. Mental toughness is a short memory. Two screen screens for Saraf. Now it’s Timmy spinning again. That move is unstoppable and he’s got free throws coming. He really is. I mean, he he’s he’s so quick with his spin. so well trained on certain areas and and credit him for fighting through because you tell he doesn’t feel good somewhere that that lower back area but again catches it eyes up good job dropping his shoulder very comfortable with it great board user you can see him working out something in his upper body. Yeah. Yeah. Some of that side back area, side of his hip. Another productive day at the office for Timmy. Not super efficient shooting at just seven for 18, but he is seven of nine from the free throw line. Now, this is this is invaluable game situation things right here. Okay. Within a eight-point game. This is far from over. And this is where you this is where a lot of judgment calls get made. That foul could go either way, but it’s on Daniels of Brooklyn as Steve Hel looks on. Second summer in a row coaching these Vegas Nets. Guy who started in the video room in San Antonio, which is a common story for some head coaches in this league. Yeah, I think he started in the video room at Michigan State if I’m not if I’m not mistaken. He was a manager for Tomo. Three ball. Daniels comes up well short. Kick the rebound. Had an interview with the Suns in that coaching position this year. I think he was one of the initial 15 that they talked to. Michigan State Mafia. And a late whistle and a foul called against New York. It’s on Kick. Nine team fouls against the Knicks here in the fourth. Next one would be number 10. That that would put the Nets in the bonus as we approach two minutes left. Timmy on the perimeter. Big to big to Nelson. That’s pretty good pass. Danny Wolf was drafted. There’s one of the skills that he has so well in playing in that big big pick and roll. Drew Timmy’s done that a few times in his life as well. Bo Champ attacking cleaned up by Watson. That was an early attack by Bo Champ. Watson had his back. Leads back to eight. Yeah, eight-point game with a minute 43. see what’s going to happen if we’re going to get these situational calls right here. But you just got to bear down, okay? If you’re the Knicks, you want some ball movement reversals if you’re the Nets. And Timmy’s doing it all. Or Timmy just taking off the elbow. It’s just too easy. I mean, it’s just he’s getting anything he wants. He’s killing the matchup. Oliver all over Kolic. 10 on the timer. Watson Diawara for three. Rolls out. Bo Champ fouled. Nice play by Marjan Bochamp. Yeah, this has been the Bo Champ half. No doubt about that. But but I like the Dwara shot right there. I mean, that’s it’s it’s not necessarily a look he’s going to get, you know, with the big club early, but you’ve got to be able to prove that if you’re going to make it with the big club. If he can make outside shots with his size and defensive ability, he could be a player. Yeah, cuz he can pass the ball. And you’re going to see that getting better as time goes on. With bigs, you really want to train them to be able to play down the middle of the floor. Like one of the guys that had Nick Clax, it was a great example of this. He could really play. We ran 13 pick and roll plays for him as a sophomore where he was the handler. And and and then the next step, and obviously Nick went to the pros that year, but the next step is then what kind of driving ability and decision-m ability can you get off the wing in the corner is a big. So, it’s not just the pick and roll game. It’s not just the middle game. It’s can you drive and make passes and plays, Timmy? Certainly, Dan. He’s fouled. That’s going to send him to the line. You ran exactly 13 pick and rolls with Claxton as the ball. Yeah, I absolutely did. Ran. Absolutely. Remember, he was outstanding in it, you know, and the and the best thing about him is he guard one through five. And uh I still like to see the Nets. I don’t have a vote, but I’d like to see the Nets figure out that he’s really good at making decisions with the ball. He’s gotten it in the short role, but he could drive and play on the perimeter as well. I mean, he’s he’s got so much talent. He’s obviously being paid well now, but there is still way more in him that with that Nets team than I think uh he’s been allowed to bring out. That’s his old coach talking, right? I’m not speaking for him. I’m saying I’d love to see him be able to operate more and do more things cuz he’s got it in. Well, being paid well, which means you you add to your total. You’re you’re right on Caliperry’s heels. We’re a long way from John Caliperry’s current 4 billion and it’s and it’s only Tuesday. I mean, so that could change four billion. I mean, think about that. The average age of those guys are 26 in. They got another contract coming probably one or two more. Yeah, absolutely. The the Shay Kilj Alexander contract was a record. Then a turnaround and Booker gets his. Isaiah Jackson just gets seven for 21 year or seven I’m sorry, three years for for 21 million. 70 a year. Yeah, there’s a lot of us out there that help their players and have players go on and make money, but nobody’s sitting around four billion or six billion overall. K the King right now looking at Kevin McCull and Mccomm Dier, two guys who were inactive for the Knicks today. I think Dier’s got a he’s got a there’s got to be a place for him on this year’s team. When he got drafted last year, I thought he was the best natural cutter in the draft. He’s one of those kids if he’d been in the United States, he might have been a lottery pick. people would have seen so much more of him. But he didn’t get a lot done for the Knicks this past year. And I’m sure if he’d been ready to play, Tom Fibido would have played him, right? Maybe at times he just didn’t have enough guys in his mind to put into the game. Well, he was trying to win. Yeah, actually. Yeah, you’re actually that when you’re the head coach, that’s actually what you’re paid to do, win the game and develop your players. But you cannot put players out there if they’re not ready to help you win. I know that’s a novel concept for some people, but the objective is to win. And they did a lot of that this past year. Yeah. And no matter what happens there, it’s the same with Tom. It’ll be the same with Mike Brown. The ball has got to move. It’s got to get thrown up the floor. It just has to said it earlier in this broadcast. Jaylen Brunson is he’s very good when he’s doing those type of things, moving it. And uh there’s just too many times in that Knicks team where it’s one action, one shot rather than getting to the second action. I’d love to see them let Bridges do more operating. Certainly let OG operate more. That’s making this interesting. Oliver’s three was not close. That would have made it a three-point game. And then Sarra fouls Bo Champ who will be heading to the line. The Knicks were 26th in pace last year. They were fifth in offense. Jaylen Brunson with another stellar season. Carl Anthony Towns an allNBA year. Made it all the way to the conference finals, but decided it was time to make a change. Well, Jaylen Brunson is ob he’s everything that he’s cracked up to be as a player. There’s no doubt about it. He can score. He can make plays happen. But I think when that ball is moving and he’s getting a chance to go against rotations or secondary defenders, people that have to close out to him, I think the more he gets that, the better he’ll even be. And then and there’ll be more ball movement on their team. Bo Champ two for two. What a second half he’s put together. Sure has. 25 points for the game. And Tom, he’s nine for nine at the line. I’ve met him a couple times. He’s an impressive person. You want to see a guy like that make it. Oliver a chance at an and one. We can make this a five-point game. Now the ball gets pushed out. Oliver’s been doing that the whole game. We don’t see the beginning of the play, but we see him drive in. Kix’s backing up. Okay. Is it a call? Is it not? But he’s attacking or was it the right call or not? We don’t know. But he’s attacking the rim. Oliver led the Big East in three-point shooting a couple of years ago at Xavier. 41% from downtown and he converts on the oldfashioned three-point play. That’s just a delay game. Now, five-point game. You don’t have a timeout if you’re Brooklyn, but you got plenty of ways. You go for a steal right here. you trap. Uh you get him somewhere around midcourt if you can’t get a stop, can’t get a steal in the back court. You see him doubling Kolic, which means Bo Champ, if he works to get open, he’s going to get it. And that gives Kolic a chance to catch it on the fly. Kick sets the screen. Sar trying to stay with him. Diara can’t inbound it. He does. That’s wanted a 5second call. No question. And they were right because he all he had his eyes was on Kohic and you have Bochep cuts to the corner. He’s wide open and then you hit Kohic on a diagonal. And there’s a foul by Nelson. Knicks do have a timeout. Elected not to use it. Avoided the 5second. Now a chance for more free throws. We saw enough NBA playoffs this year to know that there is no lead in that fourth quarter that’s safe. Pacers fans know all about that and so do Knicks fans. They were on the receiving end. How about your Celtics? Do they have any memories of those? Yeah. Blocked out. Yeah. Left out. You left them. Well, the Knicks, they did it to the Celtics and then the Pacers did it to them in the next round. The game is never over, as they say, until it is over. Tom, those were incredible comebacks. Oh, no question. No question. Oh, a wedgie. It’s our second day in a row with a wedgie. It’s going to be a jump ball out at center court with under 20 seconds to play. Drew Timmy with 19 points and seven boards in the second half. It’s an open shot. Maybe too open in that in that sequence. That is hard to do cuz I don’t think he was trying to bank it. I don’t think so either. Go, go, go, go, go, go, go. T, you still got time. Got to go quick. Yeah, this too slow. Sarra, nice touch now. Try to get a steal on the inbounds. Try to force a trap. Too easy. Too easy. Yeah. Bae out of the shoot and Olive commits the foul. Final eight seconds. Five-point lead for the Knicks as they are close to their first win here in Vegas of the 2K26 summer league. That was the tail of two halves. Tyler Kolic was ridiculously good in the first half and Marjan Bochamp was incredibly efficient in the second half. 20 points in the second half for Bo Champ and 25 for the game. He and Kick combined for 50. Bay splits him. Six-point lead. Olive goes to the basket. Pad the stats a little bit. Four-point lead for New York. And that is all she wrote. Well, the Knicks have their first win in Vegas this year. Kolic spectacular in the first half and then Marjan Bochamp backs him up in the second half. 25 apiece for those two and the Knicks beat the Nets in the Subway Series. The star of the second half, Tom Marjan Bochamp, who is a former first round pick and he’s looking to stick in the NBA. He really is. He’s coming.
