Lauri Markkanen trade plan REVEALED

Lauri Markkanen trade plan REVEALED

There’s a new Lowry market and trade rumor out there from ESPN. We’re going to dissect it because there’s a lot to talk about. Let’s get into it. It’s the Hoopser Show. [Music] All right, guys. Like always, like the video, subscribe to the channel. All right, so in this one, you can go to NBA or to ESPN.com, the NBA section, and read it. It’s by Tim McMahon. It’s the latest intel. I suggest you do get your own opinions on things, but we’re going to dissect it here, and I’m going to give you what I think is going on here. Uh, and it’s important that we dissect this one because we saw what happened earlier this off season when Austin, the Austin A presser happened and everyone shouted out in all caps, tanking is over. It’s all done. Well, there was some nuance to what Austin said and really what he was talking about was playing or manu manipulating lineups to lose games was over and whatever your definition of tanking is, whatever. Anyways, moral is we got to dissect this because we can’t be jumping to conclusions. Okay, so Tim McMahon starts this article talking about the Jazz veterans who were traded. John Collins, Colin Ston, uh Jordan Clarkson was waved and then it it prompted other GMs to wonder is Lowry Mark in next because guess what? He was in trade rumors last year. But according to Tim McMahon, he says it is not Utah’s intention to trade Lowry Markin. But then he goes on to say it would be too much to describe Markin as untouchable. So I don’t know if anything’s clearer after that. Utah’s intention is to not trade him, but he’s not untouchable. Okay. So yes, it’s like it’s like Austin is going is if a GM calls and talks to Austin A, they’re saying is is Lowry Markin available? And he goes yes or no. More likely it’s no. No, he’s not. No, he’s not. And they nod their head while they say no. That’s more or less what that sounds like to me. Uh really what it sounds like is the right price, right? Well, you keep going on and it says, “But the Jazz still project the All-Star forward as a key part of their future.” Okay. It says here, “Ut listened to offers for Markin last summer.” All right, let’s stop there. That is confirmation that all the rumors I talked about last year were true. All of them. So, everyone who had a problem with every trade rumor, guess what? They were all true. Every time someone online, whether it was the local writers, said, “No, they’re not trading him.” Guess what? According to Tim McMahon, who is reporting this, he says Utah listened to offers for Markin last summer, but none of the talks with other teams ever came close to tempting CEO Danny A and GM Justin Xanic to make a trade. All right. Is everyone who made a comment last year in each one of my videos that I was making stuff up or these guys were making stuff up or it was fake news or any of this, are any of you going to go into the comments and say, “Oh, sorry. You were right. It was happening. It was all true. It was happening.” All right. So next time we get reports from the Jake Fischers, the Stein, you know, Bill Simmons on his podcast, Zack Low, Adrien Warinowski, Sham Shirania, all these big-time reporters are the guys that have proven to be right. When they give trade rumors, it is worth listening to. The age of just like throwing something out because you you it’s not something you like to hear. And so that’s why you call it fake news. Tough. Sometimes the truth is hard. The truth can be hard. You can’t handle the truth. Okay, it was going on. So that is the context we need to bring into this. And what is also interesting is that he mentions Danny A and Justin Xanic. Who’s in charge now? Austin A is in charge. Okay, so there’s a different dynamic. The Jazz ultimately awarded Markin a 5-year $238 million maximum renegotiation. Yikes. an extension allowing him to sign a deal last August 7th that making him ineligible to be traded before last season’s deadline. We can now admit that that was probably not the greatest at least beginning of the contract for Lowry Markin. I personally was not pro it. It was not something that made a lot of sense to me when you consider the long-term goals of the Jazz and what we saw last season. Utah was successful with the tank. They get Ace Bailey. They were also able to use the picks they got uh one of them from the the Wolves I believe for Wal Walter Clayton Jr. used that to trade up. Got Walter Clayton who looks great. Both picks look really good as of right now. Uh the contract isn’t a concern for Jazz Governor Ryan Smith, though. Oh, it’s not. Is it? $238 million for a three-point shooter who shot 34% from three. But we’re not concerned. Whose roster is loaded with rookie deals. Okay. Well, when I hear that, that what’s that’s what tells me that it’s okay. You know what? It’s a big contract, but we’re filled with rookie deals, so it’s okay. Well, it’s still a bad contract. Yes, it man, it fits within the cap, but it’s still a bad contract. And that type of thinking can get you in real big trouble real quick when you start giving uh big contracts to people and it’s okay because you got rookie deals. Well, what you need to be doing is making sure that you’re planning for the right deals at the right time for the right players because right now we have so many teams in cap hell that can’t get out of it. They can’t. And that that will that situation will rear its ugly head at some point with the Utah Jazz if they are not careful. It’s already hitting them a little bit. Why? Because if Utah wants to trade Lowry Markin, it’s going to be very hard here. And we’ll talk about this in that artic in this same article that is mentioned, by the way. It says, uh, so Ryan Smith is it, let’s see, they are not worried about trading him. Uh, it’s not a concern. He’s coming off the worst season, shooting season of his career, albeit in challenging circumstances. So Tim McMahon uh also mentions that that right when he got the deal he immediately has a bad season. It says it would take quite a hall for the Jazz to consider moving marketing Markin probably requiring him to restore his value performing well for those kinds of offers to come the Jazz’s way. But the hope is in Utah however is that Markin is still in a Jazz uniform when the franchise eventually becomes competitive again. So the Jazz signed Lowry Markin for that contract. He immediately was ineligible because they did it a day after the sixth month requirement to make a trade by trade deadline. So they couldn’t trade him last off season, which they should have been able to. Mistake because Markin did not shoot the ball well when he was at his peak value last off season. They didn’t make the move and then they couldn’t at trade deadline. Now it says here uh however opposing executives said the money does dampen Markin’s theoretical trade value. So like I said that contract is huge and because Markin did not shoot the ball well and I don’t care what anyone says challenging circumstances whatever you’re in the NBA who’s not in challenging circumstances. No one else gets those uh benefit of the doubt. Why it is marketin? You’re in the NBA. It’s supposed to be challenging. And if you’re making $238 million, you’re supposed to be that caliber of player that overcomes challenging situations, which he did not. So now, because Utah gave him that contract, it makes things much more difficult. And that’s what McMahon mentions in the article. And it says here, let’s see, the hope in Utah, like I said, however, is that Markin is still in a Jazz uniform when the franchise eventually becomes competitive again. But it would take quite a hall for the Jazz to consider moving Markin, probably requiring him to restore his value by performing well for those kinds of offers to come the Jazz’s way. So, what we get in this article is a bunch of of talking out of the both sides of the mouth by the Jazz. Utah is does not intend to trade Markin unless they get a huge offer or Utah does not intend to trade Markin but he’s not untouchable. Utah looks at Markin as part of their future unless they get a big haul for Markin. GMs find his value to be low unless he performs well this season. So we have two two parts of this story going on. It certainly sounds to me like Utah is not in love with that contract. They are very much interested in playing to win games, but they want to lose because they want to keep their top eight pick. Markin puts that plan in jeopardy. But Markin, after getting a massive, massive contract, the like of which you give to the best players in the NBA, shot 34% from three as a three-point specialist. And so now Utah is having a hard time trading him and is likely getting pretty lowball offers for him from other GMs knowing what Utah is trying to do. Utah has done a great job this offseason offloading contracts. They had an incredible draft. Now they have this Lowry Markin in question and we’ve talked about the Walker Kesler equation as well, but the Lowry Markining question is a problem and Utah has to figure this thing out. It certainly seems like and I’ve actually heard that same line about you uh market and improving his trade value from multiple people. Zack Loe’s talked about that. Bill Simmons has talked about that. I think Jake Fischer maybe even talked about that. So that is the word on the street with every GM. They’re kind of looking to see if Markin plays well. And I bet if Markin plays well, then they will get some sort of move happening. I’m sure Utah is going to be talking with multiple GMs this se this season because I don’t know. I mean, maybe an offer comes this off season at some point. That certainly could happen. I with the the big difference here, too. They mentioned that Danny A and Justin Xanic didn’t find a deal that made sense to them last offseason. They’re not in charge anymore. It’s Austin A. Obviously, those guys are working with Austin A, but Austin A did this off season what those two didn’t. We had trade rumors for Jordan Clarkson and John Collins and Colin Ston for two years. Never got a deal. Austin H knows what the Jazz direction is and made those deals happen already. It was already done. He’s already being aggressive. He already mentioned in his presser that he was going to be aggress aggressive and those things happen. I think it’s interesting that Kevin Love has not been waved yet. There may be some sort of trade happening. There’s also some whispers and rumors about LeBron James out there. What? Who knows what that means and if somehow Utah can make things match? Just coincidentally enough, Lowry Markin’s contract matches LeBron James. So Utah might ne not necessarily trade for LeBron, but perhaps they can do something in terms of just like a three team deal or something like that. All right, guys. That’s that’s what’s going on. It was a little all over the place. Like and subscribe to the channel. Let me know what you think is going to happen in the comments. Thank you to all the members, especially the allstars. 1. I think Lauri subconsciously wanted to have a bad year so they don’t trade him and make him hard to trade. He don’t want to get traded.

  2. I love you man and I always love your videos
But when we got Lauri you were praising him but now you want him gone 😂

James I seen an article saying they want Lauri staying unless it’s a huge offer

    What u think of that

  3. No one is untouchable (Luka?) but Lauri is talented, young, versatile and fits our team. Any GMs job is to hear trade offers but its also their job to do the best decision. Lauri continue to be Jazzman doesnt spoil our team. We would still lose a lot of game and we are still one of the worst teams in West because we are very very young and tanking now wouldnt be in purpose but simply organic. Guys like Walker and Lauri shouldnt leave at all. We dont find that kind of talent in every corner.

  4. It sounds like you are having a hard time accepting Lauri is part of the jazz future. ESPN is saying that the Jazz want him to be part of the future.

  5. You’re completely neglecting the fact that Lauri was benched for half the season so we could lose games. You try keeping a rhythm and shooting at a high rate when the team doesn’t allow you to play consistently. He will bounce back just fine when he’s playing every game again.

  6. It’s the right move. No need to rush a Lauri trade. Keep him unless someone overpays. What we must do is develop the youth and try like heck to keep the top 8 protected pick.

  7. James. There is a minimum teams have to pay toral for all 15 players together its around 140 million per year this upcoming season. If you dont pay lauri a bunch of money then who do you pay more to make the minimum? This is why waiving jordan clarkson makes sense of the instead of trading him. Theyvare currently going to be at 147 million.

  8. IF the Jazz trade Markannen, my favorite asset to pursue would be a deal that garners Washington’s first round pick next year, because it can be pick swapped with Phoenix, whichever is higher. Washington and Phoenix both likely lottery teams next year, Utah could significantly increase their odds.

  9. For everybody excluding Ace right now. The price is right. For Lauri the price is an arm and a leg.
Goodluck finding a team that will do that.

This is coping mechanism in video form.

  10. Let's assume that the Jazz will not be competitive for 5 years. If that's the case then this markkanen contract is essentially buying his loyalty to re-sign with the Jazz for a discount afterwards. Moreover, Lauri basically took a leap year to prepare for this summer's Eurobasket championships…sorry, representing your country there means more than performing for a losing team

  11. Here is what will happen before the start of the season. Nothing. Jazz are gong into this season with Markkanen,Kessler, Hendricks, Williams, Sensabaugh, Collier, Bailey, Flip, Walt and Key. Anyone else is getting scraps. Love probably will never step foot in Utah but my guess is Valencionuos (sp?) will get minutes behind Walker. That leaves Harkless, Tsibwe, and possibly Springer on the bench if necessary. If they get too close to being better than a bottom 6 pick they will trade LM or Walk for what amounts to nothing before the trade deadline. YW 😂

  12. New theory: What if Markkanen consciously or subconsciously didn't play as well so he wouldn't be traded? If he really does love Utah better than any other NBA market, so far, which he's said many times he doesn't want to be traded and likes Utah, then it's possible.

  13. I upvote every video even though I say some bad things in the comments. I appreciate you, brotha. You're great.

  14. the whole team played to lose, hard to shoot high-% in those circumstances while also being benched half the season…

  15. Sign and trade Kuminga to Jazz, Lebron to Golden State, Lauri to Luka and the Lakers. Throw in 2031 1st Round Lakers Pick, 2029 Warriors 1st rounder, and a 2nd rounder to the Jazz and you have a deal.

  16. Lauri aint going anywhere and with good reason.
He is a valuable part of the plan. Last season he was practising new elements of his game like isolation and off the bounce shot creation which hampered his numbers. The coaching staff knew this and encouraged him to take shots he was foreign to in order for get real time game reps.
It helped us lose and add new tools to his bag.
We need Lauri and he loves Utah and the ball club.
    Go Jazz 🎶

  17. Love all the content! I give Lauri a pass for lackluster #’s last yr because it would be hard as hell to get in a groove when the team was manipulating minutes/fake injuries and knowing the team goal was not to win. I personally think his numbers jump back up this season as well as his value.

  18. Do yourself a favor and stop acknowledging how much the dissenting opinions bother you. Your medium is speculative. Of course, there are going to be people suggesting you've got it wrong. Keep bringing us Jazz content and we'll forgive your missteps… unless you keep making it awkward with the 'told ya so's'.

  19. @4:17 ain't this the truth about Jazz fans. I got lit up on Jazz Reddit everything I said Sexton and Key were not good and had no future with the Jazz. Then I really got lit up when I said the Lauri contract was horrible and I would have rather Ryan receive the penalty on not meeting the 90% salary cap minimum (which btw, is the most bs cba rule of all time) than be handcuffed to Lauri like this. I looooved Lauri's first season btw, but he did not play his worth in his second season and def not in his third season.
But I hope Lauri has a hell of a season and proves all the people who hate his contract (me) wrong.

  20. @7:57 thaaaaank you! My thoughts exactly. I don't understand why NBA fans make excuses and sympathies for these players who are the top 1% of salary in the world. If it was anyone else, like your CEOs (who dont even make this money), they would not be making these excuses. I'm just so sick of the fans going to bat for most of these players who make money that would make most of Wall Streer blush.

  21. Bro, im sorry but you really need to get off the lauri isnt a good shooter anymore. If hes getting real minutes & in regular rotation hes gonna remind you this "34%" narrative you should get off of.

  22. Thinking 34% is proof thay lauri isnt good is just short sighted. He wasnt playing real minutes and was never in rhythm. If our young guys hit hell be very good with this team or another as well.

  23. But don’t you think if Lauri played like a regular season and not a tanked season all his numbers across the board would be a lot better?

  24. I crave Utah Jazz content this ranting is borderline unbearable

Keep saying Lauri’s contract is bad but provides little evidence other than loud noises

  25. Flip is kinda looking like he's going to make Markkannen redundant in the near future. I see similar production soon but one costs 240mil and the other is on a 32nd pick rookie contract.
