LeBron James TRADE? Damian Lillard SIGNING With The Boston Celtics? NBA Rumors

[Music] We have a loaded edition of NBA now by chat sports. I am your host Nick Rolloloff. We had some NBA news today. Bradley Beal officially bought out and he signed with the Los Angeles Clippers. But after that is a LeBron James trade potentially coming to fruition. Plus Damen Lillard, is he going to sign with the Boston Celtics? We’ll break that down and everything in between. We’ll start with LeBron James because just a little bit ago, four or five days ago, John Gambada, who covers the Phoenix Suns, reported on a hit with ESPN Cleveland radio that the Lakers want to move on from LeBron James as soon as possible. And well, I’ll say this. Rumors have been absolutely flying around NBA media. Whether it is reporters for the Phoenix Suns, whether it is Brian Winhorse on ESPN, whether it is Chris Hayes, like it just feels like every single person who’s associated with NBA media has different reports on how the LeBron James situation will ultimately unfold. In the one that really caught my eye is the one from Dave McMenan from ESPN during NBA summer league who reported that Rich Paul made it clear to me that LeBron has not asked for a trade. Paul did tell me that four teams contacted him with interest in trading for LeBron though. So now we wait. And there’s been some sort of disconnect between the Lakers and LeBron. Um, I think really ever since the Luca Donuch trade on are they building forward with LeBron? Are they building forward for Luca Donuch, but there was a lot of speculation on who the four teams that reached out to Rich Paul could have been potentially trading for LeBron if that report from McMenan is true. Well, we can start to piece it together because Scoopy Robinson reported that four teams reached out for LeBron. It was the Dallas Mavericks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, and Los Angeles Clippers. There was also some crazy dark rumor on NBA Twitter that the Mavericks had a trade close to being finalized to get LeBron. I don’t think that’s true whatsoever. Cleveland would be fascinating. And obviously, Golden State would be intrigued with potentially pairing up LeBron James with Steph Curry. Well, I think there’s a little bit more insight here on what could actually go down, aka nothing. Dan Wiki, who covers the Lakers, said if there is a trade, the next question is where. The Lakers don’t want to take on money beyond this season as LeBron’s contract is an expiring deal player option. So, they don’t want to turn LeBron’s expiring into long-term money. Good luck trying to find a team who is having a $54 million in expiring money. Well, that’s the issue here, too. When you look across the league, what could potentially be offered to the Lakers that is really really like good enough to trade LeBron but also satisfy the expiring $54 million that Los Angeles assuming they want. So like it’s just really difficult for me to envision LeBron being traded. Maybe things can really change if LeBron asked for a trade and requested one. And maybe if things deteriorate between their relationship, a deadline deal can be made. But I don’t see one happening in the off season. But you can make the call for me. Does LeBron James get traded? Type Y for yes. Type N for no. Let me know your thoughts on if LeBron ultimately gets dealt from LA this off season. I just alluded to it. I do not think he does whatsoever. It just doesn’t make sense to me why they would do that, right? Like what is in it for them if LeBron James doesn’t request a trade? Because the Lakers right now are doing a little bit of a balancing act. They have to make sure Luca Donic is happy after trading for him to make him want to stay in LA and extend because he has not signed an extension yet and it doesn’t sound like he’s going to sign one this off season. That can change though. And with LeBron James on the out soon, well, maybe you just let that go and then ultimately make moves around Luca. But if you trade LeBron now, well, then you’re going to maybe send some interesting mixed signals to Donic. And with LeBron James not requesting a trade, then it’s a little bit interesting. And Dan Wokei reported once again that there hasn’t been a discussion between Los Angeles and LeBron about a potential buyout or a trade request. And it’s expected that LeBron will be with the Lakers once training camp begins in the um fall of this year. So to me, it’s just like why would they trade LeBron if he’s not going to request a trade or make anything messy? And here’s like my thoughts, a final overarching topic when it comes to LeBron and the Lakers. Like are the Lakers prioritizing Luca Donuch over LeBron? Yes, as they should. Like LeBron, yes, is either the best or second best basketball player of all time, but like he’s also plus 40 years old nearing the end of his career. So it’s like, are you really going to build around him to make him happy? No, you’re doing it for the mid20s superstar that’s top five, top 10 in the NBA. But I still don’t think they want to trade LeBron James. It would not be in their best interest. But I’ll say this, we did not mention this team in the list of teams that maybe contacted Rich Paul about a trade, but if LeBron James were to request an actual deal and try to leave Los Angeles, I think Miami is an interesting team. a good relationship now. It wasn’t always this way between the Eric Spolster, Pat Riley, LeBron James, and then with the money that Miami has, you can get Andrew Wiggins and Terry Rosier’s expiring deals up to the $54 million. They’re one of the teams that have the ability to do that. So, I do think that’s an interesting team maybe to keep an eye on if ultimately it comes to that point. Why not get there today? All right. Damen Lillard, is he going to head toward the Boston Celtics? That is something that we could ultimately see happen. Brett Seagull reporting today when asked about a timeline for Damen Lillard, saying that there’s no timetable for a decision. Nothing has changed there, but Boston remains the team I would say is number one for Lillard, followed by the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, and Minnesota Timberwolves in no particular order. So many teams have interest in him and I am sure Dame wouldn’t mind a Portland reunion at some point either. So I’ll tell you this, all four teams are interesting. Dame to Boston makes the most sense to me and is also the most terrifying for the rest of the NBA because the Celtics would then probably just get to have Tatum and Dame rehab together for the 2025 season, both return in 2026. Um, and then also probably have a lottery pick next year because is Jason or Jaylen Brown and Derek White really gonna do anything? Like that would be insanely scary. Minnesota makes sense, too. Is they need a point guard next to Anthony Edwards? We know Miamiy’s interested there, but I just think Damon Boston makes the most sense and is the most terrifying for the NBA as well. And well, Jason Tatum has been pretty active in trying to pursue Damen Lillard and convinced him to join him in Boston. Gary Washburn, who is a really tapped in reporter in the Boston area, had reported that he Tatum has been recruiting Lillard pretty severely to try to join Boston. It just makes too much sense, man. Like, they have the roster space. they have the ability to give him a multi-year deal, let him rehab, and then rejoin a roster that would be pretty pretty loaded in 2026. I just think that would not really be fair for the rest of the NBA. I hope it doesn’t happen. Um, personally, sorry if you’re a Celtics fan. I just don’t want that to happen. But I think the other 29 fan bases would agree with me on that take. If you’re not a Celtics fan, we do not want to see Damen Lillard in Boston. But predict it for me. Where does Damen Lillard actually sign? It would not surprise me if it was one of those four teams mentioned from Brett Seagull. If I had to give my prediction, I unfortunately am going to do Boston. Although it’s pretty clear I don’t want that to happen. And the reason why I don’t want that to happen because I actually think Damen Lillard is going to return from this torn Achilles. I wouldn’t say stronger than before. That would just be unrealistic of me to say that. But I do strongly believe that he is going to be very good when he does return in 2026 because there is nothing suggesting that he is going to fall off of a cliff. And Damen Lillard’s play style over the past two seasons in Milwaukee is not dependent on athleticism and the ability to rise up with a vertical ability. Was Damen Lillard once a player that relied on speed and athleticism and in order for him to be a number one option on a contending team? Yes. When he was in the mid2010s as the number one guy in Portland, he would absolutely accelerate by you in the open floor and then also be able to elevate near the rim, throw it down ferociously or finish amongst traffic. Well, in Milwaukee when he was still an NBA all-star, he was not relying on that. He was relying on his craft, his jump shot, an excellent shot making ability. And to me, he will still have that without a question when he returns from his Achilles injury. He’s also not like 38, 39. He’s 35, 36. So to me, he would still be able to play at a very high level and maybe even an all-star level when he returns from injury. So whoever ends up signing Damen Lillard is going to get one heck of a ball player in 2026. and if they have the ability to take him on to their roster and just not play this year, they should absolutely be jumping all in on that. 2. If I was LeBron I go to Dallas. Or Cleveland.take pay cut ..son would eventually come around plus they wouldn't give up much

  3. There are no teams with the available cap space to trade for Lebron. Would need a 4 or 5 team deal to have a shot at trading him.
