Will Hardy’s Rotation PUZZLE Intensifies with Filipowski’s Rise | What YOUNGSTERS Survive the Crunch
David Locke, radio voice of the Utah Jazz and Jazz NBA Insider, explores Kyle Filipowski’s impact on the Utah Jazz rotation. He analyzes Filipowski’s potential as a power forward rather than a center, discussing how this shift could affect minutes for players like Cody Williams, Brice Sensabaugh, and Isaiah Collier. Locke also examines the defensive implications of Filipowski’s positioning and the potential for a 1-through-5 switching scheme.
The podcast delves into the intricacies of the Jazz’s newly acquired trade exception from the John Collins deal. Locke explains how this $26.6 million exception could be a valuable asset at the trade deadline, potentially allowing the Jazz to facilitate deals for teams looking to get under salary caps. He also touches on NBA expansion rumors, discussing the league’s hesitation to dilute TV revenue and the possibility of expanding into European markets like London and Paris.

I dont get why we care if flip is not long enough to play the 5 in terms of this year. throw him out there, make everyone try on defense, Flip will keep it spaced, and we will lose games in part due to his poor defense
+ our gaurds get the minutes they need.
Home Run Derby isn’t that different from penalty shots, so I don’t hate if they make that a permanent thing.
Flip i always saw as the replacement for lauri. Neither have great defense but both can detour a bit with size.
David is awesome, but I think he is overthinking the rotations. Yes, Flip's long term position is probably the 4, but that doesn't matter next year. Next year, any minutes, and I mean, any minutes that go to anyone outside of Clayton Jr, Collier, George, Sensabaugh, Williams, Ace, Lauri, Hendricks, Flip, and Kessler when those 10 are healthy is a waste. That means flip plays the 5. Reminder, we want the worst record in the league again. After another year of data, we can then move guys around and shuffle the cards. But if Kyle Anderson or Jusuf Nurkic finds themselves on the court in non garbage time situations when everybody else is healthy, we have messed up.
For the playoffs I like the idea of 4 divisions of 8 teams, and then open playoff seeding. But that’s because I like cardinal directions and easily divisible by 4.
Walt
As David always says you need to get to 240 minutes. The Jazz as currently constructed do not have that. Let's also remember not all of the picks will land. This is also assuming everybody is healthy.
If we’re keeping lauri, why do we need to start a true center like Kessler who can’t shoot or spread the floor? Lauris 7’0 250lbs, if he plays 5 on d then you can start ace, Hendricks, and 2 ball handlers/guards. Then Kessler or nurkic is the big man coming off the bench cleaning up rebounds and the rim for flip. If Kessler wants to start or get paid more than 30 mil at that point trade him, because that’s not good value for his limited offensive skills.
Flex the positions, have Lauri play 5 defensively and Flip plays 5 on O while Lauri plays 3 or 4 on O
The whole thing is stupid. In Boise we can’t get Jazz Plus or League Pass. This is an area of 500k+ people who have to pay for cable to watch the Jazz.
The TV stuff is annoying as hell. Right now you haveto have ESPN (SOme type of network or streaming tv service) then you need NBA TV and also the SEGplus thing which has been annoying and I would rather have commercials on there instead of it going to a blank screen for breaks.
I'll still take the sixty bucks
Swing off last night was awesome! Kershaw was right MLB has the best Allstar experience. Everyone still tries
Im commenting for that special someone out there
Playing center in summer league is meaningless. Half the teams in summer league have true center. Nets were playing 4 guards with Demin at the 4.
Could the Jazz use the $26m trade exception to be the third party in a Jonathan Kuminga deal?
-Miami Heat receive Kuminga from the Warriors in a sign-and-trade.
-Jazz use their trade exception to take on Terry Rozier's expiring $26m contract from Miami. Jazz also receive draft compensation.
-Warriors receive Kyle Anderson and Kevin Love.
I believe this works out if Kuminga's new deal is around $26m annually. The Warriors can only take back 50% of Kuminga's new contract value in a sign-and-trade. Anderson and Love's contracts are worth around $13m combined.
Edit: This is meant as a framework. I understand Miami may have to send draft compensation to the Warriors to get the deal done.
*WALT Clayton:)
Okay, wild idea but what if Taylor Hendricks is actually a 5? He's a little short but can protect the rim and he's gotten huge this past year. Regardless of the 'postions' i could see a flip Hendircks duo being really good
@dlocke where did you see the salary cap would decrease? Everything I’ve seen says the cap with the new tv deal would increase another 7-10% in the 26-27 season?
What was the Jazz’s plan if Kyle can’t play center but can’t play 3 or 4
Why not just make turn the NBA into a 100 team comp, 1-2 in every country, (I'll be head promoter for the Melbourne Mozzies).
Top 35 make playoffs and the finals are played in the international space station above earth.. 🤔
Its too much and it reeks of greed not basketball.
Love your show Locke! 👍
Will Clayton?
I actually think Hendricks is a 3/4 not just strictly a 4.
You really think the NBA is looking to expand on the heels of historically bad TV ratings?
I still miss the "it matters now" All Star game. I like what we saw last night…for the All Star game. I don't want to see that in a regular game.
