The Cleveland Cavaliers Found A SNIPER in The Draft… 35 POINTS!!

So, the Cleveland Cavaliers just played their final regular game of summer league, and I’m pretty sure that’s it for them because they do not have enough wins to qualify for the championship, which they actually recently won, if you all remember. But this year, they went out with a bang because second round pick Tyrese Proctor out of Duke just scored 35 points in a game where he had everything going. And it wasn’t one of those inefficient games where you often see young guys score a lot, but then you look at the box score and they have just as many shot attempts as points. He shot 11 to 24 with four threes. Obviously, that’s not elite efficiency, but he got the job done. And he did a lot more than only score, grabbing three rebounds and dishing out four assists. This was a great first impression to sort of leave on the coaching staff. And there were a few players that are going to make this final roster spot decision super difficult. In this video, I kind of want to recap the final game of summer league against the Sacramento Kings and Tyrese Proctor’s performance. And then I want to start to talk about next year because believe it or not, now that the draft and free agency is over, summer league is done. Now it’s officially like the off seasonason where things are set and we kind of have an idea for how things will look in 2026. But first off, before I do begin, I would really appreciate it if y’all did me a big favor. Please smash that like and subscribe button. We are on the road to 60,000 subscribers and with your support, I believe that we can get there super fast. All right, so getting into some game film here. Here we got Proctor with the ball in the wing and he gets the screen. He goes left. There’s no roll. So really this play is just for him to get to the rack himself and get himself a look. And that’s exactly what he did. He glided right through the defense for the underhanded lay. Some people hate on the underhanded layups, but personally that is my favorite type of layup. That’s what I’ve done my whole life. Now here, Proctor starts off with the ball and comes around the screen and he puts himself in a really good spot once he does get the pass because he could either shoot a drifting three or do a ball fake to get his defender to overcommit, which is what he did. And then he just jabbed the other way to switch his momentum and he blew right by his defender. He kind of lost the ball on the way to the rack though, but luckily it ended right back in his lap and he laid it in. But the initial fake is what I love to see here. Let’s see if Proctor can exploit mismatches even at an NBA level. He draws the center and does not hesitate for even 1 second. He got shifty, created a sliver of space, and got the jumper off. And that’s about as deep of an angle as it gets for a fadeaway. But this whole sequence just looks so routine. It looked like something he does five times a game. And then honestly, this play right here is what is most exciting to me because the Cavs don’t really need the shot creation. They got that covered. They need someone who can knock down deep wide openen shots because Mitchell and Garland and even like Hunter now draw all the attention when they drive. The Cavs need that real sniper back there that is always ready to shoot. They need like a J.R. Smith, Kyle Corver type of guy. And on this play, Tomlin goes around the Proctor screen and gets the ball. Proctor pops out and his defender did not respect the range at all, leaving the open three, which he drills from five steps behind the line. But that wasn’t it because on the next play from almost the same exact spot, Proctor was waiting at the top of the key and this was kind of a funky all-around possession. But the ball got to where it needed to go in the hands of Tyres Proctor and he was ready to let it fly once again and he knocked down the shot and this is pretty much how his night went. He created shots. He was knocking down the catch and shoot opportunities. He had a great overall game and this Proctor situation is not going to at all be like the Ammani Bates one. One thing I will never understand about those 50 to 100 people on social media that created like a a moneyman Bates Colt, the dude was just never good enough to be an NBA player. He scored a lot in the G- League, but he was never efficient. Scoring was really the only thing that he could do. He turned the ball over more than he created assists, and he had awful defense. There was nothing NBA caliber about him other than his shot creation, and the Cavs already have plenty of that. But Proctor, he played at Duke, so he has gone against a ton of NBA caliber players. He’s way more efficient from baits. He can catch and shoot. He can play defense. I think the Cavs are going to try to use his skill set right away. And Kobe Alman was so happy when this guy fell right into his lap at pick 49 before his breakout 35point performance in his first three summer league games. Proctor averaged 11.3 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.3 steals a night on subpar efficiency. Even to me, it seemed ridiculous on draft night though that 29 other NBA franchises let the veteran guard from Dirham fall all the way to 49. And now the Cavs are starting to look like they got the steel of the draft, at least from a value standpoint. With the most daunting words in the NBA now being second apron, cheap labor is at a premium, especially for a team like Cleveland, which currently sits above the second apron heading into the 202526 season. A late second rounder like Proctor typically earns a non-g guaranteed or two-way contract, but the Cavs sign the guard to a 4-year, $ 8.9 million deal. It looks like the Cavs are planning to save a roster spot for him right away and landing an NBA ready guard off the bench for as cheap as Cleveland did it. This pick was knocked out of the park. One of the other players that really opened some eyes throughout summer league was Naquon Tomlin. Through the Cavs first four summer league games, Tomlin has averaged 30.3 points, eight and a half rebounds, and two steals per game in roughly 27 minutes per contest. And the former Memphis forward has displayed his ability to be a fantastic scorer down low while also showing off glimpses of being a threat beyond the ark. Tomlin is shooting 41% from three on an average of five and a half attempts during the four games this summer. After being an undrafted free agent last year, Tom would sign an exhibit 10 deal with Cleveland prior to the 2024-25 season. However, it wouldn’t take long for the former college standout to catch the attention of the front office, as he would go on to average 17.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game with the Cavs G-League team, the Cleveland Charge. Tomlin ultimately would go on to sign a 2-year two-way deal with Cleveland back in March. looking at how he could fit into the rotation with the Cavs next season. Tomlin could potentially be an additional depth piece to the Cleveland bench with Cavs President Kobe Alman deciding to sign Larry Nance Jr. this off seasonason. The current rotation will be tough to carve out a true role for the 24-year-old forward, but luckily for Tomlin, Dean Wade is on his final year of his contract. I can’t wait to finally get him out of here. The dude is just so soft and he’s barely ever available. But that could eventually free up a spot for Tomlin in the near future. If I had to make a prediction before we get to camp and all the offseason stuff and the NBA gets back into the swing of things, this is what I think the final roster will look like. To state the obvious, it will be Garland, Mitchell, Allen, Mobley, Hunter, Lonzo, Nance, Struse, Wade, and Merrill. And then to round it out, I think it will be Porter, Tyson, Proctor, and then maybe like Tristan Thompson if he comes back to be a bench presence. I have no idea who that final spot goes to. It could in fact be Tomlin. It just depends what Kobe Almond and the coaching staff decide to do. But overall, I think it’s safe to say that summer league was a big success for the Cavs simply because of Proctor and Tomwin. If the Cavs really did find a true catch andoot sniper that can play defense in the second round to have a second Sam Merrill type of player, then I think the Cavs are in a really good spot heading into 2026, especially with what’s at stake with the East being wide open due to injuries. That’s really all I have to say for this video, though. Thank you all so much if you made it to this point.
