Both these teams feature an impressive back court. No question, BA. And I get the sense that ragged rights are on the line here. Everything you can do, I can do better. Expect some exciting back and forth action in this one. Let’s take a look at our starters for the Golden State Warriors. Hurry and pods make up the back court. Jimmy Butler out there with Draymond Green. And it’s heel in at the small forward position. Pass to Pajimsky. Green against Johnson and Porzingis with the block. Got to be careful shooting around Porzingis. His length is so capable of erasing shots. Here’s Daniels right side. Young and Buck with his palm. What a defensive play. Green. The pass to Curry. Now here’s heel Majimky with it. Here’s Curry. Drops it in from 14 ft away. Look at how solid Curry’s motion is. Almost like he could have done that blindfolded. Curry against Young. Takes the three. It’s rebounded by Golden State. All right, let’s check in with Ally Leforce. I talked with Quinn Snder and we spoke about how he plans to deal with the three-point king, Stephen Curry. He said the biggest challenge, honestly, it’s not the shooting, it’s the playmaking. Steph is an incredible passer, so you can’t double team him. He’ll find the open man. As always, it’s not easy facing Steph. Brian Ally, thank you. And the Hawks with possession here following the score by Golden State. And the shooter had very little space on that attempt. There’s no air space there whatsoever. That’s as close as you can get without fouls. Porzingis grabs the board. You got to finish at the rim right there. You hate seeing those opportunities go to waste and setting the tempo with an assertive move. Like where was the defense on that play? Well, when you are the aggressor this early, it is intimidating. Here’s Pajimski following the score by Atlanta. Green with the ball and Johnson picks him up defensively. What offensive effort from Green Backing off the shot isn’t even a consideration for him. Coach, when you talk about the Atlanta Hawks, you got to start with Trey Young. One of the most exciting players to watch in the NBA, Brian, he can shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor. He’s a great ball handler and one of the most creative passers in the game. Free throw good. Green. That one misses and picked 20th back in 2021. Jaylen Johnson might end up being the steel of that draft coach. Well, look, Brian, when we see guys take a big jump like Johnson has, it’s usually because they have shot the ball better like he has. He’s really blossomed during his third year and still has plenty of room to grow. Now here’s Green covered by Johnson. Hits the rim on the way in and the bucket is good. A guy like Butler will do whatever he has to to find points. He always makes the effort out there on the floor. And so it’s Quinn Snder here calling timeout. He wants a few moments to regroup with his players. ATF dancers. We got Lil Yachty in the house for this one, cheering on his Atlanta Hawks. He’s yet another rapper in a long list that represent ATL. We all know how much these guys love their Hawks. First quarter of play and we’re about 3 minutes in. Porzingis with a screen on Curry. Here’s Young. Drives to the hoop. That’s good. His first made shot in three attempts. Yeah, there’s Trey Young getting it done inside. The Warriors have gone three of five here in the opening quarter. Back to Green. Heel passes to Curry. Just five to shoot. Yep. Count it. Love the intensity from Curry finding a way to work through the contact. The Hawks trailing outside Johnson Young. The pass to Porzingis over Green and he was fouled while in the act of shooting. So he’ll take two free throws. I don’t mind that. I mean, they met him at the rim and temporarily prevented the points. Atlanta shooting their first free throws here for the night. Two shots. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. That free throw good from Porzingis standing at 73. We have never seen a player quite like Chrisaps Porzingis. A fantastic shooter, a solid ball handler. What a talent. Both free throws good from Porzingis. And he’s shown a great touch at the line. They’ve tested the big guy, but he’s come through. Covered by Johnson. The baseline. Jay is on the way. Atlanta with a rebound. And Young, here we go. Count it. two for four from the field down. It’s amazing what Young can do out there offensively. He just reads the defense so well. Curry surveys. Lets the three fly and Jimmy Butler with the three. He’s got five. Defensively, you have to stay connected to him on the perimeter. Young against Curry. Oh, deflected. Pass to Pajimski. He shoots it. Curry shot is off. Well, if you give him that shot again, I’m willing to bet he nails it. Especially with that lack of defense in that room. Daniels passes to Johnson. There’s Young with the three. Rebounded by Green. The Warriors have gone five of nine from the floor. Count the bucket. Coming off a perfectly placed pass. Putting his body to work in the paint. Butler using his athletic skills to get it done. And Quen Snider decides to call timeout. He’s going to gather the troops and talk it over. Here they are. 4 Heat. Heat. And Atlanta making a change here. Aongu’s checked in. Hawks trail by three. Young the pass to Aong Wu. Screen by Young. Pass to Daniels. Back to Aong Woo. It’s rebounded by Golden State. I think this is a rare case of being overcommitted. He tried to go all out at the rim and they stifled it. Now here’s Pachki yet to see a basket. Shoots it from the high post. No good. That’s his third miss out of five attempts. And here’s Young. He’ll bring it up for Atlanta. Pass to Aangu. Here’s Daniels defended by Pachimsky. Of course, they sends a screen. Six on the shot clock. The Hawks need to get one up here. And here’s a Congo for three. Pure from three-point range. Man, it’s a tie ball game. Yeah, showing off that ability to stretch the floor. Seems like everyone is a threat at the arc these days. Now here’s Pachki guarded closely. Golden State needs to get off a shot on the push. Here comes Atlanta and Johnson gets it to go on the assist from Young. Johnson’s got five now. Yeah, defensively if you come off someone, Young will find it. Pass to Pajimsky. now healed. Here’s the three. Rebounded by Daniels. And here’s Johnson. And he banks in the layup. And now it’s a four-point Hawks lead. Even though he’s young, Daniels tends to make the right decisions with the ball in his hands. Back to Curry. Green a screen and all around the rim that time before dropping. Nine points in the game. Easy look when the defender isn’t fighting over the screen. Yeah, it’s certainly worth it to disrupt the offense. Coaches notice that extra effort. Now here’s Porzingis. Pass to Aongu. healed against Johnson. Foring his high post and it’s Stephen Curry with the rebound. Golden State has gone one of two from three-point land so far. The basket drops and he gets fouled on the shot. One free throw coming his way. You got to really hit Butler if you want to stop him. I mean, he’s tough as nails and enjoys fighting through contact. Heat. Heat. Well, Stan, you coached against some really tough players in your day. Where does Jimmy Butler stand right now? What makes him Jimmy Butler? Well, I think Brian, he’s just a great competitor. He wants to take on the biggest challenges when he’s on the defensive end and on offense. He is willing to attack anyone. Now here’s Canard. Back to Alexander Walker. Here’s Crills it from deep and the Hawks lead by two already. Five lead changes here. Speaks to how evenly matched these teams have been thus far. Defended by Canard. set it up with a fake but it’s offline. Yeah, you expect him to make those. Good look. Just couldn’t find the mark. Pass to Crerache. The three and can’t get it to go now. One of two. He didn’t make them pay for that weak defense, but they just can’t rely on him to miss those kind of shots. Hammers the lob through. You could just see how in sync they were there. That’s what it takes to pull that off. Here’s Crerache. Now here’s Alexander Walker. This one for three. Oh, drew the foul and almost hit the three-point bucket, but he’ll head to the line for three. 15 seconds. Trace Jackson Davis picks one up and Mquille Alexander Walker has built a role around defense and activity. Coach, yeah, Brian, he’s started to understand that not everyone can be that superstar scorer and he’s carved out a role around hustle, but still capable of knocking down shots within the flow of the offense. here. And he hits the first of three. Reese, he’s checked in for Canar. And Golden State also making a switch. Santos has checked in. He hits the second from the line. And he makes all three. Warriors trail by three. Covered by Alexander Walker to the middle. Tipped. It’s stolen by a Kungwu master. The finish and a fast break ends at the rim with a jam. This is why you must stay in front of Butler. When he’s leaking out like this, he’s focused on scoring. There’s a minute 40 left to play in the first quarter. Here’s Porzingis. At 73, Porzingis is a problem. Really makes defenses settle for fouling him and hoping he misses. A chance to catch up on some numbers here. The scoring breakdown for the Hawks. Well, the thing about hitting early threes, it spaces the floor and makes things a lot easier offensively. You know, another thing that has impressed me has been their numbers of points in the paint. Just dominating down there. They’re just getting whatever shot they want in close. That one’s off. Gays checked in for the Hawks. The Warriors also with a sub. Stephen Curry, he’s checked in for Jimmy Butler. Andy’s good on the second. The Warriors trailing. Here’s Santos. Pass to Curry. Shoots. And the Warriors get it back. Post shot no good for Atlanta. The three from Reese sinks it from distance. Well, the defense gave that away. He’s a skilled shooter who you have to contest to the left side wing. Pass to Jackson Davis. Fires the three. ConX from downtown. Exchanging buckets from downtown. That’s been a staple of tonight’s game. Yeah, sometimes you get in a shootout like this, but you just hope that you can get a stop first. Here’s Cr. There’s 14 seconds left to play in the first. Just five on the clock. He shoots good on the short little jump shot. Porzingis has got five points. I know it’s early, but you have to wonder if these offenses can keep this up. Well, you expect there to be peaks and valleys, but you’ve got some excellent scorers on both sides. And still a close game as the first quarter comes to a close. Atlanta on top, up by two. And we’ll get things started in the second quarter when we return. Man, some good action in the books as we get back to a game that’s been pretty close so far here. And before we move on, what do you guys think about what we’ve seen from Atlanta? Well, it seems like they went in looking to do damage from long range and they face little resistance. Yeah, and when you’re hitting threes early, that opens up the floor and really helps your offense. The life of an NBA head coach, Dan, is not easy. You’ve lived it. What’s the toughest part of the job? Don’t say dealing with the media. Well, no, it’s not. But Brian, I I think people would easily say it’s the time spent away from home and it’s also the losing quite honestly. But I think what my family had the hardest time with was how consumed I was as a coach during the season. So even when I was home, all I was doing was thinking about basketball. And how many losses have you endured as a broadcaster coach? Zero undefeated Brian undefeated. We’ve got a kungu Alexander Walker out there with Reese and it’s cr at the point guard position. One of the trickier plays to judge, but it would be hard to argue against the call. Yeah, and that’s maybe something that should be called more. We see a lot of moving screens in today’s NBA. Johnson, he’s checked in for Atlanta. Trey Young comes in for Crerachche. Young against Curry. Oh, there’s the alley. Oh, and Johnson slams it in. The great read between those two guys. The defense didn’t stand a chance. Ba. These two teammates right here, Grant. They are connected. And it’s healed missing. It’s stolen by Green. And a carrot with the block and that’s out of bounds. He put his court vision on full display. Yeah, he puts that pass right on the money and made things look easy for his teammates. And with these teams locked in a very close contest, this fourth quarter promises to be a good one. We’ve got Luke Canard Akongu out there with Kil Alexander Walker and it’s Crerache in at the point. So that’s the lineup for Atlanta. Here’s Gay covered by Jackson Davis. Pass to Canard. Knocks down the triple. Canard’s gotten himself going here. His first points of the game on the deep ball. That’s exactly the kind of shooting you need down the stretch to win games. The three from Curry. Gay with a rebound. Well, you like the competitive mindset there trying to answer right back. It just didn’t fall. Here’s Crate. Here’s Crerache. He’s covered by Curry. Akongu. A screen on Curry. Back to Aong Wu. Oh, the dunk by Aangu. Boy, it’s been a grinder of back and forth all night. Seven times the lead has changed. Neither team giving an inch. Over to the left wing. Jackson Davis with it. Has the post. down low and a foul called on the way up. So he’ll take two from the free throw line. There’s no debate there. He he got hammered and a chance to catch up on some numbers here. The scoring breakdown for the Hawks. Well, they’ve been hitting threes at a high cliff and the defense hasn’t done enough to challenge them at the line. They need to close out and run them off the screen. Well, another thing they did well was taking advantage of the holes in the defense. Very aggressive in exploiting the lack of concentration. And he makes a first. And so he hits both. And just about a minute and a half gone by in the fourth outside. Alexander Walker pulls it from the top of the key. He buries it and the Hawks lead by one. Coming down the stretch, it’s still anyone’s game. Incredible effort and energy on both sides. These guys must be gassed to the inside post. That shot no good. Good D by Kung Wu. Atlanta’s gone one of two from deep in this quarter. Here’s Buffkin. He’s covered by Curry. to the paint and he caught that pass in full stride on his way to the big slam and plays like that one can make the difference in a close game. And it definitely got the bench on their feet, too. And guys, you cannot allow that in a close game. You have to make it harder than that. And this is just typical of him always making an impact at crucial moments in the game. Well, you know, this is when they lean on him and he delivers with a much needed score. Right wing. Now here’s Akongu. He’s covered closely. Back to Alexander Walker. Let’s go with a three. Curry. Curry’s got four rebounds now. picked his pocket and a pass. Grig now for the Hawks. Buffin with the bucket. Buffin’s got his first points of the game for two. Well, if you’re just tuning in, welcome. We played about three and a half minutes into the fourth quarter here. Pass to Santos. Now, Jackson Davis, here’s Post. Oh, and that one, no question, powered it down. With the explosive leaping ability, he’s able to play center despite being undersized. Here’s Buffkin. He’s covered by Curry. Now, Canard, the tear drop. Pass to Aw. Down to five on the shot clock. Here’s Puffin. And the rebound paying off as they pick up two on the second chance bucket right there. Have to take care of the defensive boards better than that. Yeah, they need to pay attention to the details. Second chance points are back breakers. Now here’s Jackson Davis. Now Moody covered by Alexander Walker and Post gets it to go and the Warriors lead by one. You know what? This game has been fun to watch. Both teams exchanging heavyweight blows. Here’s Buffkin and he’s gone to the line for two. The officials saw contact while he was going up. It’s on Stephen Curry. Buffin. Two shots. And the first one at the line is good. Both teams deciding to change it up. So, one for two that time at the strike. Well, he’s got to be disappointed that he wasn’t able to take the lead, but at least he even things up. Oh, serious gut check points from Moody. And you look at how they’ve come out in the second half. It’s almost like night and day. Yeah, you can see it in the hustle stats. These guys have come out with a different mindset and seem much more motivated here in the second half. Beautiful setup on the alley. Great catch. Great flush. Pass to Santos. Here’s Pajki. Here’s Santos. Porzingis grabs the board. Porzingis has got 13 rebounds in the game. Glass eating Young. The pass to Daniels. Here’s Buffkin. Defended by Pachki. Here’s Buffkin. Pass to Johnson. So, it’ll be two free throws. He was fouled in the act of shooting. Second. 15 seconds. Johnson. Two shots. Two shots. The first free throw is good. Reese, he’s checked in for Buffkin. Draymond Green, he’s checked in for the Warriors. Jimmy Butler comes in for Santos. And Johnson drops them both. And Curry’s got the ball here for Golden State outside. Moody. It’s Pajki on the wing. Green with a screen on Johnson to the middle. It’s tipped and stolen by Porzingis. It’s Johnson with a drive. It goes again. His sixth basket in seven tries. He’s creating good looks and shooting very efficiently. outside. Booty pass to Curry. And here is Green Traymon. Oh, such a force inside. Here’s Daniels defended by Pajki. Here’s Rez now. Here’s Johnson. Shot clock at six. Young looking around. Warriors with the rebound. Outside. Curry. From deep three-point range. The rebound by Atlanta Johnson’s got rebound number seven tonight. Pass to Daniels. Here’s Rezy defends and they double up Porzingis. Johnson finds Young shoots over Curry. Young takes the hit and scores it anyway. Way to complete the play after contact. Young is tough and Steve Kerr calls timeout. He wants to make sure everyone is aligned given the situation right now. Let’s go. Everybody Heat. Heat. And the Warriors making a change here. Heels checked in. All right, let’s get a report from Alli. During that break, coach Steve Kerr had some advice for the team. He likes the way they’re finishing inside. Coach said, “When we get close, we are golden. They can’t stop us in there. Let’s keep pounding it as long as we can.” Okay, thanks Ally. Here’s Pajki. Pass to Green. Takes one from 10 ft. Heel from outside. And that comes off the assist by Green. Green. Green’s got four assists now tonight. Long range shots like that almost effortless for Heel. Every chance he gets, he’ll take that shot. Outside Johnson and here’s Porzingis recovery. Oh, and there’s the whistle on the shot. So, two free throws for him coming up. That one on healed Chris. Two shots. That free throw good from Porzingis. reel. Both free throws good from Porzingis. Warriors trail by three. Outside Pajki inside deflects the pass outside Johnson and Young draws the double. Porzingis for three. Warriors with the rebound. outside. Pajki outside heel pocket six to tie it up. Rebounded by Daniels. Yeah, and the defense has really got to tighten up on him. I mean, he’s just too dangerous from the three-point line. Pass to Reza. to the paint. Here’s Porzingis. What a finish from Porzingis. Oh my. Huge play from Porzingis. A testament to the competitiveness that he plays with. Back to Green. Green. A screen outside. Pajki from deep three-point land. He can’t get that one to fall. And that’s a strong close out defensively. Great effort to deter the shot. It’s cut the line. Ooh, Trey Young sneaks inside as usual. Terrific effort from him. Unwilling to let the possession go to waste. 157 left to play in the fourth. Curry against Young. Shoots off the step back. Curry. That’s good. Curry’s got 37. And Steph relishes taking key shots. It’s what he’s out there to do. Young. The pass to Porzingis. Here’s Daniels. And there’s a pick. Here’s Reese and he goes up strong with a one-handed jam. Nice basic one-hander there. Hey, I think he got some extra bounce off the ground on that one. Young against Curry to the cup. Curry. Oh, excellent D there from Young Grant. Wouldn’t be a bad idea here to slow it down. Yeah, coach is definitely looking for patience and execution outside Johnson. Pass to Riz Johnson. A screen on heel now. Porzingis over Green. Porzingis misses. You know, I think it’s desperation time for them. It’s not going to be easy now. They’re going to need just about everything to go right from this point on. Right at the free throw line. Healed for three. Rebounded by Daniels. Pass to Johnson. Down low. And it’s Jimmy Butler with the foul. That’s his first foul of the game. Team four. 24 seconds left in the final quarter. Sends it home from three-point land. And the Hawks lead by 10. This has to feel good. They gave their fans a show and secured the W. Yep. The crowd gets to go home feeling good about the win tonight. Their team looked impressive. So, we see the Hawks taking the W here. This one was a fun one to watch. They were clearly in the driver’s seat down the stretch. They really were, BA. They played with great intensity on both ends of the floor, and they didn’t allow their mistakes to get the better of their team. Well, now we have some time to check in with Ally Leforce. Ally, Trey, you guys had a look in your eyes tonight. How satisfying was it to get this win? I mean, it feels great. It feels great getting the win. Um, but at the end of the day, I mean, I’m just here to help my team win, whoever we’re playing against. And, um, that that’s all I care about. Thanks, Drake, guys. All right, Ally. Thank you. Well, folks, that’s going to do it for now. Alongside Stan Van Gundy, Grant Hill, and Ally Leforce, this is Brian
