Nick Clifford made a strong impression in the 2025 NBA Summer League, showcasing his all-around game in the Sacramento Kings matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers. In 31 minutes of action, the rookie guard/wing posted an impressive statline of 19 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists while committing just one turnover. He shot eight of 15 from the field, including two of seven from beyond the ark and made his lone free throw attempt. From the opening tip, Clifford looked comfortable and composed, operating within the King’s offense with the maturity and poise of a veteran. He didn’t force shots, but picked his spots efficiently, scoring on a mix of drives, mid-range jumpers, and transition finishes. His ability to contribute in multiple facets of the game was on full display, and his passing in particular stood out. Clifford consistently found open teammates, threading the needle on interior feeds and making smart skip passes to keep the ball moving. His nine assists led the team and came with just a single turnover, a testament to his decision-making and feel for the game. Defensively, Clifford stayed active on the glass, pulling down seven rebounds, including a couple of keyboards in traffic that allowed the Kings to reset their offense or spark transition opportunities. Though he didn’t record a steal or block in this contest, his positioning and offball awareness were solid, often rotating at the right time and helping contain Cleveland’s wing threats. Clifford’s performance is particularly noteworthy given his path to the league. After 5 years in college, three at Colorado and two at Colorado State. He entered the 2025 NBA draft as a seasoned and well-rounded prospect. Sacramento targeted him aggressively, acquiring the 24th overall pick via a draft day trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder specifically to select him. That move appears justified as Clifford’s maturity, versatility, and unselfish approach have already begun to pay dividends. What makes Clifford showing even more promising is how seamlessly he adapts to different roles. Whether initiating the offense, spacing the floor, or making hustle plays, he impacts the game without needing to dominate the ball. His two of seven shooting from deep could improve, but the mechanics and confidence are there and his willingness to keep shooting reflects a short memory and solid mental approach. While summer league results don’t always predict regular season success, Clifford’s performance against Cleveland was the kind of outing that gets coaching staffs excited. He didn’t just put up numbers. He played winning basketball, impacting the game in subtle but significant ways. [Music]

  1. The Nets passed on him twice, Wizards passed on him, Jazz passed, and Heat passed on him.
I thought he would have been perfect for any one of those teams especially the Nets who had zero business drafting Nolan Traore over him.

  2. Love the excitement in the comments. He looks amazing but fellow Kings fans let's remember this is summer league. Hopefully he gets some decent playing time this season!
