Grading the Last 5 Nuggets 1st Round Picks #nba #nbadraft #nuggets

Let’s grade the last five Denver Nuggets first round picks. A team that’s been pretty much drafting late in the first round because they’ve been very good over the last few years. They traded up on the night of the 2024 draft to select Daden big man Don Holmes to be Nicole Joic’s backup. Unfortunately, he suffered an Achilles tear in summer league last year. He’s going to be playing in summer league this year, though. I’m going to give this an incomplete so far since we haven’t seen him yet. Then they traded up on the night of the 2023 draft to get the 29th overall pick to select Julian Strawther out of Gonzaga. I love this pick at the time. Shaw had his moments in the playoffs this year for the Denver Nuggets. I’m going to give this a B+. I think he’s been getting better and better and will be more involved in the Nuggets rotation next year. Definitely the best grade we’re going to hand out. They had the 21st selection on the night of the 2022 draft. They selected a national champion from Kansas that year, Christian Brown. I got to give this pick an A. He was a vital part to their championship team in 2023 as a rookie, which is so impressive. He’s probably going to get a nice payday this offseason on that rookie extension. They also had another first round pick on the night of the 2022 draft. They selected Peyton Watson with the 30th pick. They traded up with OKC to select him. I’m going to give this a B. Honestly, it’s very impressive to see what Peyton Watson has done in the NBA. Look up his college stats. They are terrible. And they took a chance on him and it’s worked out for given what you expect with the 30th pick. And they had the 26th pick on the night of the 2021 draft. I thought he was going to be the best player out of anybody we’re going to mention here out of VCU. Bones Highland. I got to give this a D. Bones was such an exciting rookie and then they shockingly traded him a year later and it hasn’t really worked out since. Let me know if you disagree or agree with any of these grades.

  1. They rate Peyton Watson as the better version of Bones Hyland. That's why they trade Hyland. Which didn't turn that bad for them

  2. Bones hyland started beef with Jamal Murray and all the other guys and said bad things about the nuggets, so they traded him.
