Kings Rumored To Have Interest In Ben Simmons

Well, he might be still trying to put more of his imprint on the roster in the form of Ben Simmons. There is a report from Jake Fiser of the Stein Line and the Ben Simmons thing is real. We heard a little bit about it and some of it was whether it would just be a good fitter or not. Now it’s turning into this is a real thing along with the other guards that the that the Kings are interested in. So, here is the quote. We are still anticipating the Kings to be bringing in another veteran guard and Ben Simmons is on that list of potential targets in addition to Russell Westbrook and Malcolm Brogden. That’s from Jake Fischer. I I would say this based on that breakdown that we brought up a couple days ago with Russell Westbrook. I don’t think a lot of people realize he was playing 27.9 minutes a game in Denver. I didn’t realize he was playing 27.9 minutes a game in Denver. Ben Simmons was playing 16 I believe with the Clippers. That is It’s not to say I don’t like Russell Westbrook more than Ben Simmons because I like Russell Westbrook more than Ben Simmons and I’m only having this conversation because clearly the Kings are fixated on bringing in another point guard based on the level of drama, based on the type of culture. It’s funny. I think that Russell Westbrook fits the culture in Sacramento better than Ben Simmons, but if Russell Westbrook doesn’t get what he wants, I think he could destroy that culture more so than Ben Simmons. He just might not play right. The It’s a It’s a lowrisk with a lowrisk decent reward with Ben Simmons. He’s not going to argue with you because he doesn’t care and I don’t know how much he likes basketball. He’s just not going to play. But Russell Westbrook, is he willing to chop 10 minutes off of his of his average minutes per game? I don’t know that. I don’t know. Look at that. You’ve come around to my point. What What do you mean your point? Well, my why I said Ben Simmons over Russell Westbrook sort of facitiously. I think it’s kind of a a split either way for me was he’s fitting the role, right? The role is 10 minutes a game, 12 minutes a game, spot starts if they really have to. it the role that they are looking for better suits where Ben Simmons is at at this stage of his career than Russell Westbrook. But I’ll say this, I also don’t know what that role is. I’m assuming I am assuming based on the the minutes that Dennis Shutter played last season and how they spoke about Dennis Shruder at the intro presser, I’m assuming that they’re not going to be enough minutes to go around. Maybe there is a conversation, another conversation that we’re not seeing a and the fact that they paid him $15 million a year over the next three years guaranteed the two years and we’ll see what happens in the third. To me, that’s me and that’s you reading the tea leaves. Maybe there are different conversations. If Russell Westbrook has said, I don’t have any other offers. I’m willing to go to Sacramento and hey, if you prom I know money is involved, but if you promise me if I play well, I can I can you you’ll give me that opportunity. If I play well and I’m playing the Dennis Shruder in or whoever in a certain situation, I’ll get to close and it just won’t be, hey, I’m locked into something. just give me a fair shake at it if I’m rolling that I’m going to get opportunities to still uh do my thing and you tell and you can tell that Westbrook truly believes what he’s saying and he’s being you know uh genuine to you then I would take Westbrook but we don’t know if that conversation has happened all I know and I know that conversations have been happening in general but all I know is that he played 27 almost 28 minutes last season and he’s Russell Westbrook and I don’t know if he’s self-aware enough or the other options. If Russell Westbrook has another option, he’s not going to Sacramento. If he has another option where he can play 25 minutes a game, then he’s not going to Sacramento. Well, let’s think about it this way, too, right? So, uh Jake Fischer reported the two names around Ben Simmons are the the Kings and the Knicks, right? Let’s say the Kings and Knicks, one of them is going to get they’re both going for Ben Simmons and Russell Westbrook, right? For the Knicks, it would be to replace campaign. For the Kings, it would be kind of a similar role. Do you think Russell Westbrook is better suited with the Knicks or the Kings at this point? Because he would be a backup on the Knicks, but it would be for Jaylen Brunson, who we know to be one of the elite point guards of the NBA. versus Sacramento, it’s Dennis Shruder where it’s like he might be the the what 29th best point guard in the NBA. I think that Well, first of all, I believe that Mike Brown would really like having Westbrook on the team cuz I think that Tom Tibido would have really liked having Westbrook on the team. With that being said, based on that, and it’s so funny that I still don’t look at that offense as an elite offense, but it was last season. With that being said, I I just think that the minutes, and I know it’s not all about shooting, but I I fear that those non Brunson minutes could get rough. I think they could play together, but Russell Westbrook just straight up being the backup when Brenson is taking a rest. Who I don’t know, Mike likes to play guys, too. So, I don’t even know how many minutes are available for Russell Westbrook in New York, but I think it would work because everybody needs a dog like Westbrook. But it’s more about is he willing to, and I hate to put it this way, is he willing to just be self-aware and know, hey, you actually weren’t you getting 27 minutes a game got people fired. You weren’t really supposed to get 27 minutes a game. Yeah. And it was weird cuz they were doing really great when it was Westbrook, Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, and Joic playing together, right? And then they looked up and they were like, “Oh, wait a minute. We’re we’re better if Christian Brown, Braun, whatever. Christian Brown is on the floor. We’re better with that than Westbrook being at the alongside Jamal Murray. And they were absolutely correct. Right. Right. They needed a spray shooter for Joic who was going to be doing a lot of the primary ball handling. That’s fine. New York is not that type of offense. And Sacramento, while they have Damont Sabonis, Sacramento is not going to be able to run that type of offense with Zack Lavine, Demar De Rozan, and Keegan Murray on the floor the way that Denver did it with Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr., Aaron Gordon, and and Christian Brown. So, in that sense, I think Westbrook would make more sense in New York filling the campaign role. But I also feel like Ben Simmons makes a lot of sense filling the campaign role in New York. But I think Ben Simmons makes more sense in Sacramento. Yeah. Yeah. And and for Westbrook, I think with OG and all the corner three shooters that they have, OG and Mau Bridges, I think that Westbrook would be perfect for that. And honestly, I can’t say whether Ben Simmons would fit that role or not because Kyle, I haven’t really seen Ben Simmons play. I’m not going to sit here and act like I fired up the three minutes that he played on the Clippers. I’m not going to do that. All Ben Simmons is really doing is offering you defense and a little bit of ball handling. Yeah. And when he goes to the when he goes to the US Open, right, uh the tennis US Open, when he goes to the US Open, right under it says Ben Simmons, NBA player, Sacramento Kings, because that’s what he wants to do. He wants to be in Perry. He wants to do all this basketball stuff. He’s going to be he’s going to be more known everywhere else other than the basketball court. That just a lot of fish here on this Friday. We get it. You’re not a Ben Simmons guy. I’m I I can be if Russell Westbrook is coming in with the mindset of, oh, I’m going to get my 25 minutes. I don’t want I don’t want to deal with it. Just give me Ben Simmons. If he flames out, he flames out. Because Ben Simmons is never going to argue to play more minutes.
