Finally, the Knicks have made a decision on Ben Simmons. We have updates on the Knicks plans in free agency. And according to reports, New York is still targeting a veteran point guard to add to this team. We’re going to break down all of these latest reports today. If you’re enjoying the content, please hit that subscribe button and have notifications turned on so you don’t miss any new content. And now, let’s get started. The Knicks finally make a decision on Ben Simmons. The name that has been haunting me and most other Nick fans this off season has been Ben Simmons. Many Nick fans want New York to utilize that final veteran roster spot to add Ben Simmons, while others, myself included, would rather the Knicks look elsewhere. But what do the Knicks actually want to do? We know New York has been in contact with Ben Simmons multiple times in free agency. Well, thankfully the Knicks have finally made a decision on Ben Simmons and if they’re going to add him to this team. Shout out to New York basketball on the app X and News Day NBA insider Steve Pauper for giving us this following information here. According to them, league sources indicate Ben Simmons is a long shot for the Knicks. I repeat, league sources indicate that Ben Simmons is a long shot for the Knicks. Am I smiling right now? I can’t tell, but it feels like I’m smiling. And I know why. A lot of you guys know why. because the Knicks just dodged the bullet. Let’s go ahead and break down this report a little bit further. Shout out to Steve Pauper of News Day for giving us this following information. According to him, the Knicks may seem to have a few rotation minutes available, but they do have one spot they can use for a veteran minimum free agent and remain under the hard cap of the second apron, which they are limited to right now. With almost every team lacking cap space, the Knicks position as one of the favorites to contend for a title can be tempting to a player who wants the spotlight for a next deal. The names are intriguing. The Knicks could use a solid backup point guard and they can choose among Malcolm Brogman, Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, and Ben Simmons. Those last three may be fantasy basketball. Chris Paul is looking to be closer to his family in California. With Russell Westbrook, he wants a bigger role, a bigger role than he would have if he joined New York. And league sources indicate that Ben Simmons to the Knicks is a long shot at best. You’ll notice that Steve Pauper did not shut down Malcolm Brogen. He shut down every other free agent listed there that has been linked to the Knicks. But Malcolm Brogden, he didn’t shut that down. And to me, that tells you that the Knicks are interested in Malcolm Brogden. Brogden is interested in the Knicks. And potentially that’s the direction Leon Rose and this Knicks front office is going to go for in free agency because clearly they are looking for a veteran point guard to add to this team as a backup to Jaylen Brunson. But before we get back to Malcolm Brogden, let’s go to Ben Simmons once again. I know I’m smiling, but I cannot help it. I said it earlier, but I fully believe this. The Knicks have just dodged the bullet. The fact that Ben Simmons is a long shot for the Knicks in free agency, that is so good for New York because they didn’t need Ben Simmons. We do not need a player like that on this roster. I don’t know if anybody told you guys, but we’re trying to win a championship. If you’re winning a championship or that’s your goal, you need to make championship level moves. Ben Simmons, he’s not a championship level move. He’s a liability each and every time he’s out there on the basketball court. Maybe he can do a couple of things very well, but he can’t shoot. You want somebody on this team coming off the bench, a ball handler that can’t shoot? That doesn’t make sense to me. New York needs to look in a different direction. And thankfully, according to reports, that’s exactly what the Knicks are going to do. And as Steve Pauper just mentioned there, the Knicks are looking for a veteran point guard to add to this team in free agency. And he’s not the only one stating that. Shout out to Steph Bondi with the New York Post for giving us this information here as well, too. The Knicks have one roster spot open for a veteran free agent and will likely target a guard, ideally one who can handle the ball. And if they’re looking for ball handlers at the guard position, that tells you exactly the type of player that they’re looking for, a veteran point guard. Now, with all of that in mind, who is available that fits that bill that the Knicks can target and add to this team? Well, one of those players we already told you about, Malcolm Brogden. But who else is on that list? What other free agents are currently available that the Knicks can target with that vet minimum contract and add to this team? I went ahead and broke down all of these options for you guys today. Let’s go ahead and take a look at this list here. These are the free agents still available that the Knicks can use their vet minimum contract on. Al Horford, but he’s likely going to the Warriors. Chris Paul, he’s likely going to the Clippers. air Kofi. I would love to add him, but there are other players on this list that I would like the Knicks to look at first before Kofi. Russell Westbrook. I would love Russ on this team, but as we already broke down earlier, the problem with adding Russell Westbrook to this team is that he wants a bigger role than he had with Denver. He wants more minutes, and the Knicks can definitely not give him a role like that. if he joined this team, he’d be the 10th man on this roster. That’s not a role that Russell Westbrook wants. So, let’s continue with this list here. Then, of course, we have him on the list, Malcolm Brogden. Then, Precious Aua. Aua is not returning to this team. Then, we have Chris Buchet. Now, obviously, I want Chris Bucher on this team. I still think we need a legit backup for OG Anobi or Mikuel Bridges when they go to the bench. And right now, we don’t have that player. But if we signed and added Chris Bucher, we definitely would. But unfortunately, there have been no reports linking Buchet to the Knicks. So, as of right now, I don’t think that’s a possibility. Gary Payton II. Again, he fits this Knicks team, but there have been no recent reports of him joining the Knicks. Ben Simmons. I mean, with Ben Simmons, I already broke that down. So, I’m happy to say the Knicks will not be adding Ben Simmons. Let’s continue. Thomas Bryant. The Knicks are not gonna add another big man center given all the depth they have right now at the center position. Landry Shamut definitely a possibility. The Anthony Melton, you know what, underrated, he could be a possibility as well too. But here’s where the fun part starts. Possible buyout options. A lot of people have been asking what is taking the Knicks so long to add another player in free agency. And this might be the very reason why they’re taking so long. They might be waiting for other players to be bought out. Players like Marcus Smart, Chris Middleton, and Kevin Love. With Kevin Love, I don’t really see that happening. Marcus Smart and Chris Middleton though without a doubt if either one of those two players become available because they were bought out. The Knicks will be first in line trying to sign one of those players in free agency. And since they want a veteran guard right now in free agency, Marcus Smart makes the most sense. And they might be waiting for Smart to be bought out before making any decisions. But if they don’t want to wait and they want to go after players that are available right now, two players on that list are the most likely right now. Landry Shamid and Malcolm Brogden. Going back to Brogden for a second though, as Steve Pauper mentioned here in his initial report when he was speaking about the players the Knicks could target, he mentioned the Knicks could use a solid backup point guard. And then he listed a few names. Malcolm Brogden, Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, and Ben Simmons. He shut down Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, and Ben Simmons. He did not shut down Malcolm Brogden. Then we have NBA insider with the New York Post Steph Bondi informing all of us that the Knicks are still looking for a veteran guard in free agency, potentially one that has ball handling experience. So, we have that. And then when you take a look at the remaining free agents available on the table, we broke down why some players are not available for the Knicks right now. Landry Sheam or Malcolm Brogden, one of those players is going to be a Nick. And given the fact that Steve Pauper did not shut down Malcolm Brogden, the fact that the Knicks are still looking for a veteran point guard in free agency, I think everything is leaning and pointing to the Knicks going after Malcolm Brogden and signing him to a roster spot because he fits everything the Knicks are looking for right now. He checks all the boxes. In some ways, so does Landry Shamut. But Shamut, when I think about him, I think about shooting. I don’t think about ball handling. If I think about defense, ball handling, and shooting, Malcolm Brogden checks all of that. And he would be a very good addition for this Knicks team in free agency, especially if they’re able to steal him for the vet minimum. and everything is looking like right now that’s the direction the Knicks are headed in. But what about you guys? What do you think about the Knicks shutting down Ben Simmons and adding him in free agency and likely looking for a solid backup point guard? Let me know how you feel about that in the comment section below, guys. And also, who do you want the Knicks to sign in free agency at this point in time? Let me know in the comments section below, guys, because honestly, I would love to hear from you. But that’s going to do it for this episode. I hope you enjoyed it and if you did, go ahead and smash that like button, leave a comment below, and of course, guys, please subscribe to the channel. Until next time, Nick fans, take care of yourself, your families, and each other. Peace and

  1. When are they going to give Kolek a chance? With Clarkson and McBride they should add Shamet. We need pinch off the bench.

  2. Ben Simmons makes absolutely no sense here. He couldn't handle the pressure in Philly and he couldn't stay healthy mentally or physically in Bklyn. What makes anyone think this guy is mentally tough enough to handle the pressure of championship expectations while playing on the biggest stage in the league. Thanks but no thanks. We don't need a 6'10 guard that's scared to shoot and is ALWAYS hurt.

  3. Bring back Shamet…that's the move that the Knicks are probably trying to finalize but Shamet is probably looking to see if he can get more $$$ elsewhere

  4. I don't see the decision of not acquiring Simmons as "dodging a bullet." It's just a smart decision by Leon Rose. We don't need a player who's afraid to shoot.

  5. All of the Simmons haters are the same commenters who last off season were in love with Mikal Bridges and kept shouting "we gotta get Bridges" — the Knicks did get Bridges, gave up too many assets to obtain him, and Bridges didn't play like that guy at all. Hmmm, not a one of them is making a peep about that. This thread is typical Knicks fantasy hour. Get Paul. Get Westbrook. Get Smart. Get Dame. Get Beal. As usual, no one considers what those players PROBABLY want, and that is more playing time and more than the vet minimum from the Knicks. Again, they would be getting limited minutes coming off the bench. Please stop with the Malcolm Brogdon madness. Brogdon has had better days and he is just as much of a liability as Simmons. The hate for Simmons on here is unreal. After too many seasons of watching Frank Ntilikina, Kevin Knox, and Jericho Simms give this team ZERO OFFENSE AND DEFENSE, Ben Simmons would be an upgrade from that bullshyt. For what this team needs off of the bench, with the limited cash, and the minutes, asking for the major names is ridiculous. Leon, if it's not Simmons, just resign Shamet and be done with this nonsense.

  6. I disagree. Ben Simmons, when healthy, would be a perfect fit with the Knicks. I would start him and have him play as the primary defensive stopper taking the role away from Mikal Bridges who struggled at times and had nothing left on the offensive end. Give Simmons 4 snipers from the perimeter and let him go 1-on-1 with his defender. He can shoot but he can get to the rim or pass the ball out to the 3-point line.

Amir Coffey would be my 2nd free agent choice with Shamet, Brogdon and Trey Lyles as my next options.

  7. Lol. Why do the Knicks need a ball handling guard off the bench? From what I heard, a guy named Josh Hart was supposed to be moved to the bench?

Josh Hart can: give assists, get rebounds at a high level, defend, force turnovers, get out in transition, be a one man fast break, drive to the rim and put up some 3s. Also what about Tyler Kolek who can give assists and shoot 3s? He's coming off the bench, not starting. Not only that, he appeared to be steady during the few times he was put in by Thibs.

What the Knicks should do is go out and get Landry Shamet. He's a knockdown 3 point shooter who can defend a bit. That's exactly what they're missing. Shamet and Clarkson together would be fire.

The Knicks could also go out and get Chris Boucher. Instead of making him play center or power forward…why not let him play small forward? Also doesn't Mike Brown use his bench more than Thibs does? If so, that means more bench players will be making an appearance this season. There are too many good players on this team for anyone to be cheerleading or stargazing while the starters are being run into the ground.

  8. I definitely agree that the Knicks dodged a bullet when it comes to Ben Simmons. Sure he might put in the effort on other teams. But I have the feeling that if he signed here, he'd quickly get a series of injuries that would have him in and out of the lineup for the rest of the season. I thought his surgeries were supposed to remove his pain so that he could finally play up to his full potential.

He was okay, last season but definitely not what I was expecting. I would prefer a guy that the team could rely on and one that we'd know what kind of numbers (and effort) we'd be getting. The bright lights of Madison Square Garden might be too bright for him. Remember he never showed up while Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving were in Brooklyn and he wilted in Philadelphia on the 76ers. Imagine how he might respond to the pressure he'd face on the Knicks.

  9. I have no problem with the Knicks adding Ben Simmons tonthe roster, they could use his defense and length.

  10. I think they should’ve went out and got Russell Westbrook. They never do the smart thing and besides didn’t Russ already sign with someone

  11. Yes Simmons is a risk on many levels however he checks a lot of boxes this team needs. I don’t want Chris Paul, he tends to take over a team and that’s not for the good. Brogdon is health risk but a “safe PG” as far as skills go. A balance scorer and distributor. If we get a ball handler then we lose on the acquisition of a possible wing. Westbrook is NOT a ball handler and he can’t shoot either being that that seems to be a focus when we have multiple scorers. Hell Westbrook, Smart definitely can’t shoot. So you gotta pick your poison. I say Simmons bcuz he gives more flexibility. None of these pick ups don’t automatically make a championship squad we have one without their addition (whoever it is) so get the one that offers the most for your buck…… Simmons. Nobody else is better on that list.

  12. Knicks should be addressing their weaknesses. The main reason why we lost was communication. That’s the pg position. WE NEED LEGIT PLAYMAKERS!! Which we severely lack due to Brunson being just a scorer!!! Westbrook, Simmons would be the best options!! Both do multiple things at that position.
