Salary Cap Breakdown – Los Angeles Lakers
When LeBron James picked up his player option for $52 million next season, it severely limited the Lakers salary cap flexibility. He and Luca will be taking up nearly a hundred million between the two of them. That’s part of the reason why Dory and Finny Smith ended up declining his player option and signing with the Rockets instead, although he’ll be making less next season. And apparently the negotiations between he and the Lakers ended on bad terms. But to replace him, they signed free agent Jake Loravia. And then to address their glaring need for a center, they signed former number one pick DeAndre Aton, both at reasonable contracts. Then they also gave a new contract to Jackson Hayes. And then they drafted Ad Theoro with the 36th pick. So unless the Lakers make any other moves this off season, they’re bringing back a relatively similar team to last year. But will that be enough in a competitive Western Conference?
After LeBron picked up his player option, here’s where the LA Lakers stand from a salary cap perspective heading into next season

This could have been such a better off-season if Lebron just took a pay cut. He already has so much.

They have 2 options demand LeBron for a pay cut around 10 to 20 million gives Lakers flexibility for the future to build around Luka while still having him for a bit more or buyout his contract (if approved by him) and go to a new team most likely the Cavaliers.
