Cody Williams is looking like a comeback possibility for the Jazz | Hoops Nerd Show

Okay, it’s the end of summer league. The Jazz got some pretty nice bright spots in this summer league and tonight, let’s talk about it. It’s the Hoops Nerd Show. [Music] All right, guys. As always, like and subscribe to the channel. Like the video, subscribe to the channel. That’s the way to put it, right? All right. So, the Utah Jazz ended summer league tonight, and to be honest, they were ready to be done. I think everyone was a little bit ready to be done. The players, the fans, everybody. But you know what? Utah had a nice night again from Cody Williams. I think this is probably one of the bigger surprises and unexpected thing for Jazz fans coming into this. Obviously, everyone was excited about Ace Bailey. I know I was. I’m sure you were. And we got an incredible performance from Bailey in his second game on the Jazz. And we’ve talked about that ad nauseium basically. But, and honestly, we got some really nice performances from Walter Clayton Jr., let’s see, let’s just post this live so people know. And that was really fun, too. So, we’ve had some really nice performances from those two. Jazz fans probably would have liked to, not probably, would have loved to see more Ace Bailey tonight. And I know I would have liked to watch Ace Bailey play at least one game in Las Vegas summer league, but it wasn’t to be. Anyways, having said all that, the Cody Williams experience has been a fun one. He’s been really good, really consistent. Tonight, he was 26 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals. He’s pretty much put those same numbers up every single night. Tonight was his most efficient night of the of the whole summer league. Nine for 17 from the field, 52%. 5 for 10 from three, 50%. Three for five from the free throw line. He was great. And only three turnovers. And a lot of this was him being the primary ball handler. He was bringing the ball up. He’s initiating the offense. We saw him run pick and roll. We saw him run a nice little dribble handoff pick and roll from the three-point line that ended in an uh an alleyoop dunk, which is like I did not expect to see Cody Williams being a playmaker playmaker running pick and rolls like that. He’s driving to the basket. He’s using Philip um physicality. Great. So, anyways, I’m really excited about Cody Williams. I think he’s been great. And then the two he’s been getting two to three steals every single night. every single game that is. It’s been awesome. So, I’m excited about Cody Williams and what he’s done. He’s been great. Uh, you know, we’ll see if it translates into preseason and regular season. And if it does, then that’s pretty exciting because I think he brings length and and he’s very smart on the defensive end. He two to three steals a game. And then on offense, if he can shoot the ball well, and he showed these last two, three games that that three-point shot can fall. I think that’s two games in a row he shot the three ball. Well, that’s really great. So, we’ll see if he can consistently do that when the season comes. So, nice to see. The other story is obviously Kyle Filipowski who had just a monster offensive summer league. I think he earned like best veteran of summer league, best secondyear player. He was great. The defense with Philip Powski is is is going to be the question mark. Can he be a solid defender? That’s what makes Cody Williams so intriguing is because we know that he can bring length and defense for Utah at like the two or the three wherever you have him playing. I kind of like the idea of here’s the lineup I wouldn’t mind seeing guys and it kind of depends on if Lowry Markin’s on the team or not. I assume he probably will. Walter Clayton Jr. at the one, Cody Williams at the two, Ace Bailey at the three, Lowry Markin at the four, and Walker Kesler at the five. And I think that’s probably my final prediction after Summer League. We’ll see. Probably will be surprised with what it is. Maybe it’s Isaiah Collier. I don’t know. That’s probably a little bit of me hoping that’s what it is and predicting. But it was great. Uh, we’ve already mentioned it. Ace Bailey played two games in Salt Lake City. Thank goodness we at least got to watch him there. The second game was great. Uh Walter Clayton Jr. just got better and better each game and then got a hamstring injuring injury which sucked because he could have won like summer league MVP. He was playing that well. Uh Philipsky was great. So Utah has some rookies performing well. The question is can they perform well come regular season time. So we shall see. That will be fun to watch. Um, it’s going to be a big off seasonason for Utah. Well, it might be done. They’ve traded three veterans. I don’t know. I mean, I imagine there’s going to be one or two more trades either before the season starts or by uh trade deadline, obviously. I do I don’t know. It’s It’ll be interesting. This I’m going to obviously follow all the different things. I’ll write and talk about all the different rumors as they come and post them here. Take them as you will, but the the rumors like uh we found out from who was it was it that talked about the rumors and that they were true. Oh, I think it was I think it was Tim McMahon confirmed that all those rumors from last year were true. So, they’re just real. When I share them, guys, I share the ones from reputable places. It doesn’t just because they’re not like a Utah reporter doesn’t mean they’re not real. And we found that out with Tim McMahon that they were. So, we’ll share those as they come. I don’t know if we’ll see as many this offseason. We’ll see. But if they come, we’ll talk about it. I don’t have a lot else to say tonight, guys. It’s been a fun summer league. It’s been a long one a little bit, especially with Ace Bailey not playing every night. Uh I would have loved to watch him play, but it’s been a lot of fun, guys. Uh I think that’s all we’re going to do tonight. I’ll be honest, I have a headache and I am tired and I’m going to get some sleep. I may watch uh I’ve been I’m watching Big Labowski. I’ve never watched that before. We’re going to finish that and then go to bed. I don’t have anything else to say. There’s not a lot else to say, guys. The summer league has been a little bit long, but I will say, let me know in the comments what you’re most excited for this season. Let me know what your starting lineup would be. I told you what mine is. I cannot wait for the regular season. It’s coming September, guys. So, we got like a month and a half or something like that. It’s going to be so much fun. I can’t wait. And I’m sure you guys are excited, too, because it’s it’s fun. And I don’t know. I’m kind of rambling. I’m kind of tired. The dude abides. The dude the the hoops dude channel tonight, I guess. Anyways, let’s give a shout out to the Allstars because they’re the the absolute apple of my eye, dude. That’s just like your opinion, man. Let’s see. Let me get this music started. Um, let’s see. 1. Comparing Cody to Ace: This is not fair, because we have not seen many games, but what jumped out to me is Ace active on the offense when he does not have the ball. Cody does not box for rebounds much of the time and particularly watches shots with slow closure, where Ace was attacking the boards. It seems Ace is constantly thinking of how to get himself in the action. Cody does not seem to go there as much, Cody could become awesome if he decides he wants to make an impact on every possession.

  2. What a fantastic summer league for the Jazz. Can’t really beat it.
Ace, has a chance to be a star. Can’t wait to see him at 23. How about Cody Williams at 23 years ? If he starts getting comfortable at that 3-ball, oh my. Speaking of comfortable with the 3, what a summer for Sensabaugh. Clayton Jr looks talented as heck. Heckuva pick. A little disappointed in Collier, but Clayton Jr is going to push for his minutes. Watch out ! And last but not least, what a ‘Flippin’ great summer league. Keep developing, keep it rolling. Let’s go !!

  3. Across the board, why are hardly any rookies playing this summer? Nearly every team is sitting their top draft picks, it's actually pathetic.

  4. There was a play when Cody was guarding #55 I think, running down the court, and Cody like broke off to the wing near the paint, and the guy walked in for a layup. Didn’t watch much more after that, but seemed like 50% effort play. Didn’t even stick around to try and get a rebound. But impressed by his gains and shooting.
