Miami Heat Await Resolution To Terry Rozier Gambling Investigation | More Details Reported By ESPN
Welcome on in guys. Tobin here with you and thanks for checking out the channel. Hope you’re doing well out there. If you guys could subscribe, that’d be great and appreciate you stopping by the channel. So, we got some interesting details yesterday. We talked about this earlier in the week about the Terry Roier situation and that there were reports from Tom Havstro, Chris Haynes that were counter to the Sham Shirania report that had said that Terra Roier had been cleared. They had said he’s still being investigated, not cleared of any wrongdoing. Um well, yesterday David Perum of ESPN, he covers gambling for ESPN, um gave details on what exactly were the ramifications of this report. You know, we knew that there was some game in 2023 that Terry Roier got hurt in and that that apparently sparked something. Well, now we have information on what actually went down. And in the early leanings of this, I don’t know what can be proven of this that actually shows Terry Roier did knowingly do anything wrong. Um, I don’t know. Did somebody have ins I think the bigger thing is like what did somebody know around Terry Roier? Um because the only way that this is a problem is that if we know that Terry Roier did this intentionally to manipulate bets, which I don’t know. I don’t I don’t know. I don’t know if that’s going to come back inconclusive or what. But uh here was the uh the piece from David Perham. He said a professional better placed 30 wagers in 46 minutes, all involving Terry Roier in a 2023 NBA game, according to documents obtained by ESPN that revealed new details about the suspicious betting that is under scrutiny by federal investigators. On the morning of March 23rd, 2023, a better in a sports book in Bloxy, Mississippi placed a $13,759 bet uh on the unders of Terry Roier statistics in that game in a game that night between the Charlotte Hornets and New Orleans Pelicans. According to documents which ESPN acquired through open records request, all 30 bets won after Roier, an eight-year veteran with the Hornets at the time, exited 10 minutes into the game, citing a foot issue. In all, at least six sports books in multiple states detected suspicious betting on Roier props that day with the bulk of the activity occurring in Louisiana, Mississippi, according to source familiar with it, reported to the US Integrity, a firm that monitors market betting uh abnormalities. The NBA investigated the unusual activity in 2023 and found that no league rules were violated. Two years later, Roier is one of three NBA players known to have been under investigation by the US Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York. Roger has not been charged of any wrongdoing. So, it gives some uh All right. So, off the bat, the only thing that really stands out in that, okay, the the guy bet these bets the morning of a game. So, one would assume that they knew something that night, the night previous. Um the interesting thing about Terry Roier’s injury that flared up with having knowledge is that he wasn’t on the injury report for this game. Uh on the details, the veteran Beloxy placed bets at Hara’s GF Coast uh on the under of Roier’s points, rebounds, assists. According to the list of wages in the documents, the largest was a $2,700 wager on the under five and a half rebounds for Roier and was made over the counter using a casino player’s cards. The other 29 bets were placed at a self-s served betting kiosk a few hundred at a time beginning at 9:30 a.m. according to records. For those who don’t bet or if you’re in a state that’s not legally betting, uh you basically go to a kiosk, you put your money in, boop boop, and you bet it out. But if you go to the hard rock, uh I know specifically I did this at March Madness. First I bet on a spring training game. And then I bet on uh like a parlay 16 parlay later for the first day of March Madness because we were doing a show for the first two days. And then that hits and you take the ticket, you got to go to the window. They give you your cash and they say, “Thank you very much, Mr. Tobin.” I’m like, “No, thank you very much.” And I just happen to know the betting guy at the time. I’m not a degenerate, but uh I happen to know the betting guy at the time. So I don’t even know if they normally will tell you. Thank you very much, Mr. Tobin. But that’s normally how it goes. cuz there’s not like some level of suspicion. It’s usually in and out. So, I don’t know. I’ve never suspiciously bet. Normally, what with your boy Tobes, the way I bet is very small amounts of money for very ridiculous odds. And I usually get, you know, beat down with a with a bat over months because I just keep losing plus $1,800 bets $5 at a time. That’s how I like to bet though because for me, I’ve always said this with betting um and I grew up around gambling a lot. I was around the horse tracks a lot. Winning small just does nothing for me. It just like if I bet something and I’m like, “Oh, the Marlins are going to win tonight, you know, and they’re the under like just does nothing for me.” I don’t know. I I should have, you know, probably more of a long view on these things, but that’s not what gambling is to me. I just cuz I could stop gambling and whatever. It doesn’t mean that much to me. I just have fun doing it uh for those modicums. This is not relevant to the story, though. I don’t know why I’m giving you guys insight on that. Um anyway, they said attempts to reach the better who did this was unsuccessful. Uh the sports book initially refused to pay the winning tickets, setting a house rule on rigging and suspicion of inside information according to emails. So this was flagged right away. Um the casino asked the Mississippi Gaming Commission for permission to avoid the bets. Uh and they came back and said if you’re not able to come back with evidence that you have to pay out the bets. Um, a week later, Caesars informed the commission in an email it was settling the wages uh on Rosir and the better one over $13,000. So, they turned their just under 3,000 into 13,000. Um, and I think for people who are saying like, hey, well, why didn’t you bet in more if you knew it was a guarantee? First of all, we don’t know what this better situation is, right? Like, we don’t know what their money situation is. We don’t know how much they like. We don’t know. We don’t know. But I would say this, like look, imagine this already got flagged and this was, you know, a a a net of them of him winning essentially $10,000. Um, so I kind of get it like especially if this guy, if there were multiple guys doing this all over the place. Um, I kind of get it because it feels like, you know, he was probably nervous about, you know, too much action. Now, should he have gone back little by little or sent other people? I guess. I don’t know. Um, they have cameras all over the place, so it seemed like it was going to be an issue, but he they weren’t able to prove it. Uh, ESPN Roier was not listed on the Hornets report uh for the pregame injury report. Fishing game with five points, four rebounds, two assists. All under the betting line statistics. He did not play for a remainder of the season. He was hurt and then he was traded to the Miami Heat in January of 2024. So, this would have been he didn’t play and then he was done for the season. He comes back and he does play the first half of the season with the Hornets, but then of course was traded to the Heat in the middle of the season in one of the worst trades in team history. Sources told ESPN that multiple sports books in New Orleans also received heavier than expected bats on Roier props starting in the morning and lasting until the midafter afternoon. At 2:24 the day of the game, the US Integrity sent a nation award of suspicious wagering on Terry Roier NBA player props. According to documents obtained through ESPN, the most prominent uh most prominent sports books halted betting on Roier props within an hour of the US integrity alert. according to an archive odds feed uh from an analytic site. So yeah, this was something that was flagged in the moment. This is the thing that’s interesting about this is still going on like two years later and it seems like this whole thing is they’re they’re trying to get a hold on whatever ring this is. But the big problem is is like what players are in on it because obviously Jonte Porter was in on it and he got banned for life. Malik Beasley is is maybe not in on it because his activity didn’t conote that he was in on it like taking dives on some of the games but he doesn’t have a contract right now uh and it seemed to have avoided his contract. Terry Ro is the only guy who’s still under contract, which is obviously what makes his case, I think, the most intriguing, but yet I don’t know what has really been proven here for Terry Roier, because mind you, he was cleared in an NBA investigation already. He was not, but he is not necessarily cleared to now at July 19th, a little before noon. He hasn’t been cleared. Um, so then you hear from Roier’s attorney in the piece, Jim Trusty. He said that while the federal in inquiry remains ongoing, his client is not the target of the investigation. So that should be clear. Doesn’t appear that Terrair is the target of the investigation and people who are looking for a void or people who are looking for a a contract void. I don’t know if that’s going to happen just based on this. But it is his attorney. He’s obviously going to say positive things about where his attorneys at, about where his clients at. Um, a spokesperson for the US Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District, New York sent an email that they could not confirm nor deny Roier’s status in the investigation, declined to comment further. Trusty said that Roger met with NBA and FBI officials multiple times in 2023 and that his that investigation determined he did nothing wrong. Quote, “It’s unfortunate that he has a big name in sports and he has to endure all of this. My hope is the and expectation is that at some point they’ll be done with their investigation, will be professional enough to let us know that it’s 100% over and that they reach the same conclusion that was reached in 2023. And this is the big thing that I I I think the Heat really do need closure on. And that is, is he going to be cleared? Is he available to play? Is he going to be in trouble with the league? One would hope they’re going to get some notice on this before we get to October and games actually have to be played. And that has to do with the fact of like not only Roier’s status with the team, his status with the league. Could you put him in a trade? Was anybody want to touch him right now? This obviously all got sparked up again this week and is a interesting place to be. So I’m not sure. Roir is part of the same federal investigation that led Jonte Porter being banned. Porter pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges, admitted removing himself from games to help betterers win prop bets. So, we don’t have that from Terry Roier. Um, it would obviously be hu like if we find out that Terry Roier gave a tip to somebody and was in on, hey, I am going to be out tomorrow. My foot doesn’t hurt. I haven’t told anybody about this. then yeah, he’d be in super big trouble for that. He would be he would be in massive massive amounts of trouble for that for swinging games like that. Even if it was a rat ass Hornets game in March of 2023, that’s obviously a huge problem. That’s obviously a huge problem. Uh but I don’t know what like I don’t know what the investigations have shown. I don’t know what everybody’s connection to Terry Roier is cuz Porter, you know, he was uh he was in this place where he was part of it and they found that, you know, they knew he was in on it. Now, it says some of the same betting accounts that wagered Porter also bet Roier props in the Hornets Pelican game in addition to multiple college basketball games that were flagged for suspicious wavering activity. Dussy said that Roier does not have any connection to the people implicated in the Porter case. So that’s that. As far as the heat’s concerned, um there is uh the status right now on this is that I don’t believe the Heat are commenting on it. They uh would not give comment to the Miami Herald. Anthony Chang says that he declined to comment on Friday regarding the latest details. Uh in addition, a representative for Roger was unable to be reached for comment. I believe Ira reported the same thing, but I’ll double check. But as I read it yesterday from his article, I believe he also didn’t get anything from the Heat on this. Um but certainly, you know, I I got to imagine I can’t imagine the Heat loved this, you know. Uh contacted Friday by the sunset. The heat declined a comment. Roger ended in the part final part of his deal. Rosier. So, but I don’t, you know, I I I don’t I I don’t know where this is going to go, guys. I really really don’t. I I do think though that the Heat are I I do think the Heat are owed some level of clarity. And I understand the people who are hoping that if this is if this is if this was known by the Hornets, is there a chance that he could get their f They don’t they haven’t converted their first round pick yet. I don’t think that’s going to happen. I I would be like I don’t even know because like let’s just say we find out Terry Roier was guilty of this, right? Well, it was cleared by the NBA in the Hornets’s mind, right? So, while even if they knew, first of all, it’s their fault that the Heat gave a first round pick for Terry Roier. Second of all, um I just have a hard time believing that like even the like like the Heat didn’t do due diligence on like, hey, is anything gone on with this guy? Is there anything Well, he wasn’t investigated for this. What? But he was cleared. Okay. Like I I I don’t think there’s a scenario where Terry Roier, you’re getting that first round pick for Terry Roier and that trade is voided. I I I really don’t believe that’s going to happen. Is there a chance that Terry Roio’s contract is voided? That’s going to be the lie. I mean, like, that’s going to be where this goes. If they find out that he actually leaked something is that, yeah, that he’ll probably get his contract off the books and Terry Roger would be in a bunch of trouble and his league status would be in trouble. But the the trade getting voided, I got a hard time believing that the league’s going to be like, “Oh yeah, you get your pick back for this guy.” And the only, you know, like I guess the only way that would be proven is like this, if we really found out that Terry Roier was actively tanking games last year. Um, but obviously I think that look, this stuff works pretty fast, right? So we just saw that this thing was first flagged the morning this stuff was happening. So, let’s just say for example that Cavs game that he played last year, you don’t think the Heat would know already that that that the betting activity would be severely flagged for that. They couldn’t know that because they couldn’t even know if Terry Roier was going to play in some of these games. So, I don’t think there’s a chance the Heat are getting their pick back. I don’t think there’s a chance that they’re going to get uh made whole by that. If they find out that he did wrongdoing, okay, then I could see his contract getting wiped off and, you know, the heat, I guess, will be under all the thresholds they need to be under. But I don’t know. I wouldn’t get my hopes up on it. You know, it doesn’t if I’m if I’m to take Roier’s attorney at his word, I don’t think I’d get my hopes up on it because to his point, he hasn’t been cleared yet. Um, if this was tied to the same case, they were able and they were the same accounts. One guy was able to get found guilty, but Roger wasn’t. So, I don’t know. It’s an unfortunate thing. It does like it it’s it does stink. Something something about this stinks. That that that doesn’t smell quite right, but it’s hard I I think it’s a hard thing to prove. Like, how do you prove that Terry Roier wasn’t hurt? And mind you, he didn’t play the rest of the season. So, like this didn’t seem like an illegitimate injury. It seems like it was a legitimate injury. It just would be a matter of did Terry Roier not tell the team but told gamblers and they took that and ran with it or somebody in his in his circle. And then you would also have to prove that he was in on it. So, I don’t know. I don’t know. I I I I kind of feel like we’re going to get to this and I I I feel like we’re I’m not You know what? I’m not going to assume anything. I don’t know. But I don’t but but I do see a lot of people on social media who are like, “Oh, they he should get their pick back.” And I’m like, “I I don’t think that’s gonna happen. I I I don’t think that’s going to happen.” But this is uh you know, certainly crazy to see what’s going on in the underbelly of this story.

Can we trade him for a bag of basketballs??
I would be rolling in cash if I bet on the Heat blowing games every time Rozier was put in during a 4th quarter last season.
Tobin i bet the same way as you π€£
Iβm truly impressive how many ways Terry Rozier can be an absolute pain in our ass.
Please Basketball Gods give us a break already
Heβs going to get banned from the NBA for life and his contract is going to be nullified
On both sides a buy out makes sense.
Worst trade in Heat history. Every time he steps on the court I cringe. Get rid of Terry!
To be fair to Rozier, anybody betting under on his stats will win every time
I don't bet , I've never bet on anything. But it seems to me if a guy goes out of a game hurt, especially in the first quarter, why wouldn't the sportsbook cancel all of those bets?
Get Rozier off the team. End of discussion
All gamblers say they can stop at any time, Tobin admit you have a problem πππ
Shams is always correct on his information after all .
