Ja’Kobe Walter on his breakout game, Jamal Shead’s leadership, and Ulrich Chomche’s growth

Ja’Kobe Walter on his breakout game, Jamal Shead’s leadership, and Ulrich Chomche’s growth

Most importantly, are you okay after that uh that flavoring, too? Yeah, I’m great. Do you know what happened? Like, from your perspective, what did you see? I think uh the game was just getting heated and competitive and he just felt the need to foul that hard. It was just a hard foul. I got heated, but Ten calm me down and just turned us in the game. Like it seemed like Colin jumped in. I think I felt like Dark jumped in a little bit too actually. Man, you know what? We we really harp on being a family and uh I know at times like that somebody going to have my back at all times. Um I’m going to have their back when something like that go down. So early in the game it felt like most of the guys couldn’t really get it going but you had a bunch of threes and then in the third quarter you had a nice run and then the fourth quarter you had a bunch of steals that really pushed the break. What’ you make of your overall game tonight? Uh you know I’m happy with my game. Um I just trying to just trying to win. Uh whatever I can do to contribute to win. Um like you said all those little phases were something different. I always try to give give my all offensively and defensively. Um, but the team uh at the end of the day, we all played together and got the win together. What do you feel like you see the the biggest growth in your game and feel like that run is so important kind of feel like you got a heat check on where you missed three, but tell me where you feel like you had the most growth in your game? Um, I think physically I think I put a lot of weight on this summer. Um, which helps me take contact differently. Um, I think the game is starting to slow down. Um, just being more comfortable with the ball in my hands. um not hesitating to shoot the ball. Uh a lot of it just comes with confidence, you know. Um coaches harp harp on confidence, you know, play with confidence because it’s going to keep the flow of the game. So that’s what I just been trying to do. What do you what have you seen from just I feel like you had a possession or a nice block and then a dime a man. We we love Orich. Um you know, that’s that’s really like our little brother, you know. Um so, you know, he’s made a huge leap just from when he started last year. Um, so shout out to his work. You know, we see it every day. He got set back with injury, but he was working every day. Um, I saw it. So, just for him to uh get out here and start really showing everybody else that he’s been working, he’s getting more comfortable. And for him to do something like that, you know, get a steal, fast break, dime, you know, that we never seen him do that before. So, that just means that he’s starting to gain confidence. People talk about how close you and Jamal are. Um, what’s that been like? You guys obviously came in at the same time and kind of leading this team. And how do you guys push each other? Yeah. Um, you know, I came in uh with Maul, uh, but he’s still older than me. So, um, you know, that’s just like my brother. You know, we we live close. Uh, we ride to practice, all that. Um, you know, we just talk about the game. Um, but, you know, he he’s a leader at the end of the day. You know, he played four years at at Houston. Um, you know how that program is. Um, him coming out of that program as a point guard, you know, he’s just a leader and he brought it as soon as he came to the Raptors. Um and then he just he just teaches me a lot and then just keep uh really uh pushes me um tries to give me confidence every game, every practice, don’t matter. Three and0 obviously in summer. Are are you guys aiming for uh We’re trying to win. Trying to win. Simple as that. Yeah, we trying to win. That’s the goal. Um we we set that at mini camp in Toronto. You got open a couple times down the stretch, too. A couple easy buckets coming back door. How do those happen? Um you know, just reading the defender. Um if he plays on top side, you know, that’s a uh that’s an easy back door. Um, and then our bigs or J Mo, CMBB, CC, it don’t matter. Ori, they be finding us. So, um, you know, we just work on that in practice though, right? And then going back to the question about Jamal, I felt like he’s kind of frustrated cuz he missed the three at the end of the first half. Yeah. I saw him yell, you know, basically afterward he was frustrated. Yeah. Third quarter though, he came out with like a different energy. It feels like he he has these moments where for like five minutes he just like makes like five plays in a row. Is that what you see as well? Um, you know, we talked about it at halftime. We came in, we was like, they can’t mess with us at the end of the day, you know? Let’s flush that whole first half. Let’s come out on something different. Um Jamal, like I was saying earlier, he’s a leader. So when he when it’s time to step up, he’s going to do that every time. Um so those defensive plays that he was making, offensive plays, passes, uh you know, that really got us going. So um yeah, we we always need someone like Jamal um on the court. Thank you.

  3. Gradey is in an uphill battle. Hopefully we can get the best out of both of them as this team needs all their skills to get to the promised land of long playoff runs.

  4. The extra muscle 💪 is definitely showing in how he plays through contact. Good off season. Good attitude. Bright future ahead!
