Miami Heat Just STOLE Norman Powell from the Clippers in 3-Team Trade | Love, Anderson Sent to Jazz
[Music] Yes, sir. Pat Riley is awake as the Miami Heat have just traded for Norman Powell in a really interesting three-team deal in which the Clippers are receiving John Collins from the Utah Jazz. And the Jazz are getting Kevin Love and Kyle Anderson from the Miami Heat and then a 2027 second round pick from the Los Angeles Clippers. So, the Heat basically just got Norman Powell for nothing. So, rightfully so, Heat fans are excited because certainly a 32year-old Norman Powell is definitely going to put us over the edge. Or at least it’s going to put someone over the edge. Yeah, it it’s me. It’s going to put me over the edge. And not not in the good way that you’re thinking. Listen, Norman Powell is a good player. I’ve always liked him. Certainly, he got him a good value. I would definitely say he had a career year last year for the Clippers. A pretty decent Clippers team, mind you. Uh, so this is not like a Terry Rosier looter in a riot situation. I wouldn’t categor categorize it as that yet, but last year Norman Powell did average 22 points per game on 48% from the field and 42% from three. That’s on seven attempts per game. So, he’s always been a very efficient player and that’s definitely something that the Miami Heat need. They need some more shooting spec specifically efficient ones, especially now that you lost Duncan Robinson to the Detroit Pistons. I wonder if Norman would start right away. He hasn’t always been a starter in his career. He’s been a bit a been a bit on and off. Last year he did start all 60 games that he played for the Clippers, but when you look at the Heat’s depth chart right now, Tyler, I’d say, is a lock to start unless he unless he’s on the move next. I don’t know. Uh but Tyler’s a lock to start. And then at the point guard spots, I think maybe we were hoping a week ago Casperis would be ready through two summer league games. That’s not the case yet. He’s 19. We’ll see what happens. But then the other obvious option is DaVon Mitchell. The Heat were fortunate enough to retain him. And I think that pairing in the back court, DaVon Tyler, I think those guys comp kind of complement each other pretty well. So what does that mean for Norman? Is he coming off the bench? Is he going to start at the two and Tyler plays the one? We’ve sort of seen that before. So, as of right now, I do think that Norman comes off the bench and he’ll look to be probably one of the best bench players in the entire league because I I think he would really help Casperis if if Cass is coming off the bench because the Heat looked at him through those first two games and said, “Yeah, that guy needs some spacing.” He’s had a lot of turnovers before and I don’t quite think all of those were his faults. I think once he gets that NBA level spacing so he can attack and kick out to actual capable shooters, I think his his game will improve. And if he’s able to come off the bench with a guy like Norman Powell, I do think that will really really help his game a ton. Maybe even if Cass doesn’t play yet, maybe we see some more Pella Larson minutes through his first summer league game. He really looks like a guy who had a great off season himself and Pella’s also not a great shooter. So, pairing him in the back court next to someone like Norman Powell, I do think could work pretty well. So, I do like uh Norman Powell. I guess I didn’t even mention Terry Rosier. I like Norman better than Terry, I’ll tell you that. Whatever the hell happens with Terry, we’ll see. I’m sure the Heat are actively shopping him more aggressively than anyone else. But I like Norman Powell. He even said that he grew up watching DWade, modeled his game after him. Just another reason of many that DW needs to be in the front office for the Miami Heat. how they let this guy go to the Jazz. I’ll never never understand. And it’s not just older guys that grew up obsessing over D. Wade. You still got kids in today’s generation that grew up watching him play. And I just think having a guy like that in the front office can’t hurt. You know, especially go get Goron in the front office, too. You’re saving up all this cap space now to get Luca next year. Maybe get a Slovenian brother in the system. Maybe maybe that’s just me. So, Noran Powell’s a good player, but where I really like this trade is the value that his contract brings because this season coming up, he’s an expiring $20 million contract. So, the Heat will still uh maintain the cap flexibility that they had. They even get a little bit more. The reason they were able to get him from the Clippers, though, is cuz they didn’t want to extend him, so they decided to move on from him. Hey, it’s me, Pat Riley, and I’ve woken up from my slumber because I realized you didn’t like the video and subscribe yet. So, make sure to do that for me so I can get some rest. Thank you. This is good for Miami for a couple of reasons. Because now you might be able to flip Norman Powell at the trade deadline. Maybe he has a good start to the season. A contender is looking for some more shooting, which is always the case. and then maybe that he can flip him to a contender, hopefully get some expirings back and then some additional assets in return. So now you’d be turning Kevin Love and Kyle Anderson into actual picks, tangible picks, which is something I I could have never imagined for those two guys. Or if Norman has a good season, maybe the Heat can work with him the off season to resign him, give him some of that c salary cap space that you’d have. Might not be a super high number just because of the age. So it could work out to bring him back. And if not, they could always just let him walk because you would still be freeing up more money than if you kept Kevin Love and Kyle Anderson. Love was an expiring contract, but Anderson did have one more year on his deal for about $10 million. I should note it wasn’t fully guaranteed. Only $2 million of it was. So if the Heat were to wave him next year, they’d still owe him 2 million. Now you don’t have to worry about that because Norman Powell is completely expiring in this trade. The Heat did take back more money than they sent out, which means that they are hardcapped at the first apron. They cannot spend above that to go into the second apron, which would be stupid cuz they’re not going to be a contender anyways. What this trade did do though, too, is it put them over the luxury tax as well, cuz how the kind of tears work is you got your salary cap, then your luxury tax, then your first apron, then your second apron. The Heat were below the luxury tax before this trade, now they’re over it. So, if the Heat don’t make another move, they’ll be paying a lot of money in tax. And for all the people that said Mickey Harrison is cheap, myself included, guilty. I might have to refrain from those comments for a couple of years because this is not a money-saving move for this year, at least as is. However, I do believe that the Heat are likely to make another move, which might be smart because they want to avoid the repeaters tax. If you’re over the luxury tax a certain number of consecutive years, there’s a pretty harsh penalty. So, I can’t fault Mickey Harrison for wanting to dip under the luxury tax in a year where we’re probably not going to be that great. Do I care what’s in Mickey Harrison’s pockets? No. The dude is a billionaire many, many times over. But still, I can’t blame him if he wants to avoid the tax. They’re only $1.3 million over, so it shouldn’t be too hard to get under. I don’t know exactly what they could do. There’s a number of things. Of course, this trade also opens up a roster spot for the Miami Heats. A lot of the names Heat fans wanted was Bradley Beal. I think that was prior to this trade. Now, there’s certainly not a basketball fit for Beal. I actually do think I like Norman Powell better anyways. Just a more efficient player, probably a little bit of a better defender. And I just think Bradley Bill has always been a loser. He’s always been a guy who took the most money possible and then complained while his team suck. You can’t have your cake and eat it, too. If you want to get paid, good for you. Go get your bread. You earned it. But then don’t wonder why your team suck. I I don’t know. I’ve never been really a Beal fan. Um, turns out the Heat aren’t either. Looks like they were never pursuing him that hard anyways. Although he he said that we were at the top of his list. Uh, the other guy Heat fans are talking about is Damen Lillard. I’m kind of cool on him, too. You know, I don’t love the idea of a 37y old coming off an Achilles who can’t play till next year anyways, but if he wants to come here on a cheap two-year deal and then you get Dame in 2027 for a low contract, why the hell not? I could be talked into it. There’s also plenty of other free agents. Maybe they bring back Alec Burks to get some more shooting. Another guy I like is Garrison Matthews, random scrub, heat killer, Hall of Famer, just to continue to add shooting at kind of a different position. But we’ll maybe get another video out in the coming weeks about other free agents now that the Heat have another roster spots. I think they also might use it towards getting more size because the bench barely had any size as it is. I mean, the only backup bigs was Yovic, Love, and Anderson, if you can even count them as bigs, which they’re really not. But that’s all we had. And now you traded two of those guys for a guard. So, I’ll miss those guys for sure. Especially Kevin Love. He did tweet out, “Never thought I’d be a math problem. Welcome to the NBA. Felt a bit bad for him. Although, he did post on Instagram another video that was a little bit more funny. So, hopefully he’s in good spirits. I did enjoy his time here and everything that he brought in the locker room. And he’ll get bought out by the Jazz. And I think he has Los Angeles Lakers written all over him. So, he’ll get to go to LA, join his buddy Braun, and try to win a chip. Uh, and I liked Kyle Anderson, too. I thought he was pretty decent here his second half of the season. better than expected, but they’re both gone now, so the Heat will probably need to get a big in free agency. Maybe it’s uh maybe they upgrade Vlad Golden from his two-way spot to a standard. Or maybe we start to see some more of Omar Balow or Dane Danger in summer league. Of course, last game, Dana played pretty well. I think they’ll get some more minutes as the summer league goes on. And then maybe one of those guys gets the last two-way spot or or contract spot for the Heat. uh or maybe the he just keep that spot open for a buyout candidates later in the season which they have done before. So overall from a roster construction standpoint it was a no- risk trade. Uh from a cap standpoint Bobby Markx the cap expert he called it a home run. I would have to agree with that. I think there will be more moves to follow. Andrew Wiggins is probably next. Maybe they flip him for Hachi Mura’s expiring contract. that would give the Heats hella cap space next off season. Uh and then for the Clippers, good trade, too. John Collins is a very nice fits in a position of need. Maybe they could slide Kawhai back to the three. Uh Collins provides a great lob threat for Harden. Uh Collins could also space the floor for Zubos to work inside. Personally, as a Heat fan, I probably would have preferred Collins if we could have got him in this deal because he’s also an expiring contract and I think he’s a better basketball fit than uh than Norman Powell is just because he does provide some of that size that I think we need. And he’s only 27 most importantly. So, he would theoretically fit our youth movement because that’s what Barry Jackson reported that he master plan was was this youth movement. I told y’all that was BS. They struck out on KD and now they said, “Oh, that our plan all along was to go young.” Yeah. Okay, then why are you training for Norman Powell? Like, are you going young or not? I I don’t know. Uh cuz technically Norman Powell is actually older than Kyle Anderson by like a year. But anyways, uh for the Jazz, I was a bit surprised the only value they got for for John Collins was a second round pick, but they shed a they shed a ton of cap space, so they’ll have a lot of money to work with. So, overall, feels good to finally make moves. feels good to get back in the game a little bit rejuvenated for next season out cuz at least we got something different to watch for. But overall, I’m just not super excited in terms of what he brings to the Miami Heat. Like there’s still going to be a mid team. But we’ll see what follows cuz I do think that there will be more. I guess I’m also a little disappointed because just late last night I finished writing a new song. I know it’s been a minute, but I put together a rap that’s like kind of like a diss track on the Heat Front Office slash me telling them to do something. I actually really like the way it came out. I just recorded it. I was going to make the video today, but now it’s not as relevant cuz they did do something, but I think I’ll save it for a couple of weeks and I’ll drop I’ll drop it eventually, maybe sooner than that. We we’ll see what happens cuz I do like it a lot. But anyways, if y’all don’t want to miss that, make sure to subscribe to the channel. I’m on a grind to hit 9,000 subs. Like the video and comment down your thoughts below on Norman Powell cuz I’m very curious to hear what y’all think. And I’ll see you on tomorrow’s video. Peace out everyone. Pull up in your city trying to get that dead face. Do it on my own. I don’t need no dead. Yeah, I need a head space. You know this homegrown don’t offend me.

What would you grade this trade for the Miami Heat?
A plus buddy
I’m very happy we got Powell. We need to get rid of Rozier asap. If nobody wants him, I’m not sure if we waive him & open up another roster spot or just have him ride the pine. Thoughts?
Nice move for the heat,,, way better than Duncan Robinson and Terry Rozier,,, so i hope the heat could get rid of Terry and get a back up 5 to replace K Love! Lets go heat!
This is a solid pick up! Norman can shoot that rock, he is Heat Culture. Let's go!!!!
Now we need to offload Wigs and Terry. Knecht and Rui would be a good trade, hope that pushes through.
No more LoVe and Slo Mo. prepraring for Dame time n Beal…
I was stoked to wake up and see a move being made, an absolute steal at that. I would love to see Wiggins for Rui and Knecht next
Lillard and Powell could be united once again in Miami. I hope Miami can pick up Lillard. There could be something brewing up in the background here. Powell was not even on the heat radar at the start of the free agency.
Yall are acting like Tyler hasn’t been pg all season Norman is gonna start with Tyler
Now Giannis!!!
Option A: Adebayo + Rozier + Fontecchio + Jaquez + two 1st round picks + two 2nd round picks.
Option B: Adebayo + Wiggins + Fontecchio + two 2nd round picks

Hero / Powell / Pella
Wiggins / Jacquez / High Smith
Bam / Jovic / K Johnson
Ware
Team is much better
We more BIGS
Stretch or trade Rozier
We have at 2 GEMS from our 2 way contracts emerging
I actually think with how weak next year’s east will be the heat might be the 6th seed I think it will be cavs, knicks, magic, pistons,Atlanta,Miami,76ers,bucks,Celtics,
We will be a playoff team next year after this trade in this weak east I think we will be fighting Atlanta for the 5th seed next step trade rozier which will make us have to roster spots than sighn Jonathan kuminga and bring back Alec Burks and just like that we are back to competing also I see ware stepping up Norman powel will help our offense out a lot taking some of the load of Tyler Anthony what do you think?
Hopefully another move is coming to get rid of Rozier and/or move off of Wiggins. Otherwise just let Rozier expire.
We now have that extra spot that everyone was asking how we were going to get it. Dame or Bradley could be low cost options. Probably Beal since he will play this year and is younger. Bring Powell off the bench as the 6th man with the Davion, JJ, Jo, and rest of crew. May need a back up center.
Think about what we were paying Duncan and what we will be paying Powell 🤔. Powell is borderline all-star, Duncan won't ever be close to being an all-star. So this is a big upgrade. Love was not doing anything for the Heat and I don't even know who the other guy was that we traded. So obviously A+ on the trade
I am sure Spo will F this up,by playing Powell in the wrong Position.
And hopefully Riley trades Wiggins ,Rozier for Kuminga.
