Are the Knicks Looking at the NEXT Pascal Siakam?

Are the Knicks Looking at the NEXT Pascal Siakam?

Knicks fans, yesterday there were some standouts from the summer league game against the Brooklyn Nets and Marjan Bochamp was one of them. He dropped 25 points mostly in the second half. And then Mohammad Diawara continues to play elite defense with his wingspan and also showed some promise on offense. So the Knicks front office will have some tough decisions to make after what we just saw in summer league game three. Let’s first start with Marjan Bochamp because man, he was on one in the second half of game three. After struggling early in summer league, he came alive against Brooklyn with a 25point performance. With most of it coming just in the second half alone, he was getting to his spots, hitting mid-range jumpers, finishing at the rim, and just looked flat out more confident. The handle looked tighter. He was playing with more pace, and defensively, he brought great energy. Now, look, it’s still unclear if Bo Champ is eligible for a two-way contract since he’s already been in the league for a handful of seasons. But if he is eligible, that could end up being a massive steal for the Knicks. And if not, then maybe he’s just showcasing himself for another team to pick him up. Either way, that game mattered for him. Now, let’s talk the Knicks 51st pick, Mohamd Diara. Because I don’t care what the stat sheet says, this dude can play. He finished the game with just seven points, four rebounds, two assists, and a steal. But if you watch the whole game, you know what time it is. Diwara has real defensive instincts. I’m talking active hands, great anticipation, switching on to guard, sliding with wings, and he makes life hard for guys. And then offensively, we even saw a little step mellow like mid-range jumper and that caught me off guard. He went 0 for four from three. So yes, the jumper still needs a lot of work. But the mechanics look clean. If he ever develops a reliable shot, look out. Now I know the Pascal Seakkum comps are going to trigger people, but I’m not saying that he is Pascal. I’m saying this is what Seyakum looked like early on. Raw, tools, disruptive on D, and flashes of something more. And right now, Diwara looks like the heavy favorite to land that one rookie minimum contract that the Knicks still have available instead of going back to France for another season because he’s earned it. Also, shout out to Dink Pate because he had a quiet game overall, but there was a stretch in the third quarter that made you raise an eyebrow. He grabbed an offensive rebound, pressured the ball into a broken possession, and then drilled a catch and shoot three all in a short burst. And that’s exactly what you want to see from a 19-year-old raw prospect like him because he’s still a couple years away from being NBA ready. But that’s fine. The Knicks do not need him to contribute right now. Let him cook in Westchester for a season or two and then let him develop accordingly. He’s tracking towards one of the Knicks three two-way spots. And with that upside, it’s absolutely the right call. So, here’s how it’s looking like right now. Mohamad Diwara is set to receive the rookie deal with the Knicks. And then the vet minimum is still to be determined between Landry Shamid and potentially Ben Simmons. And then, of course, there are three two-way spots available. One of which is going to likely go to Dink Pate. The other one is gonna go to Kevin McCuller Jr. because I think he’s shown enough in summer league. And then the third one is the tricky one. If Marjan Bochamp is eligible, he will likely receive that one. If not, then it will be James Naji because I’m pretty sure that Anton Watson will lose his two-way spot. And of course, we do have to mention Tyler Kolic because he did have a big bounceback game last night. 25 points, four assists, four steals, and five three-pointers made out of 12 attempts. But still, despite that, I do not see him getting any significant minutes in the rotation this coming season. And the defense is the biggest reason because it’s just not good enough quite yet. If he can one day become a TJ McConnell level defender, that would be great for the Knicks. If that ever happens, he will definitely be the backup point guard to Jaylen Brunson long term, and it would definitely help him even more if he finishes these last two games on a strong note. And regarding the two players that did not play yesterday in Kevin McCuller Jr. and Pakcom Dier, I think that McCuller Jr. will probably play one more games out of these last two and Dier is probably going to be shut down. And again, Marjan Bochamp is outperforming James Naji. So, if Bo Champ is still eligible for a two-way contract for another season, he will probably get that third spot. But with that being said, my question to you guys is what are your thoughts on Mohammad Diawara’s game? Do you guys see that potential long term? And do you see some of the young Pascal Seakkum or Ojan and Obi comparisons? Let me know in the comments. 🔥 The Knicks just wrapped up their third Summer League game — and while Tyler Kolek got most of the spotlight, two other names are starting to steal the show: MarJon Beauchamp and Mohamed Diawara.

Beauchamp exploded for 25 points — showing why he could be a valuable depth piece or even earn a Two-Way contract… if he’s eligible.

Meanwhile, Diawara continues to flash elite defensive instincts and serious long-term upside. His jumper needs work, but his mechanics look smooth — and the comparisons to a young Pascal Siakam might not be that far off.

We also break down Dink Pate’s development and why he’s likely earned himself a Two-Way slot with the Knicks. Even with a quiet stat line, his third-quarter sequence showed glimpses of high-level potential.

With only one standard rookie contract and a couple of Two-Ways left to give, New York’s front office is going to have some tough decisions to make…

  1. if they don’t bring Shamet back I think they are just going to give that vet minimum deal contract to Marjon Beauchamp. If not then he will get one of the two-way deals if still eligible. There’s a reason why they are giving him so much playing time now.

  2. Beauchamp can score but inconsistent shooting. He’s not worthy of a deal with the main roster. At least to me he’s not. Now Diawara MUST get the rookie deal because we need him to learn from OG and Mikal right now and his length is important

  3. I think Beauchamp is too skinny for a 4th yr player. He can shoot, but that is not enough especially in NYK culture

  4. We played the Nets who were playing without* 3 main guys. I dont like Marjon but Diawara looks decent. He needs alot of work tho.

  5. I hope the knicks focus on player development now that thibs is gone. I feel like that was one of our biggest weaknesses since thibs was here. Yes he did develop players. But im talking develop the youngins. We could use the development. I hope the kolek development happens in the regular season. I feel like he did piss poor is because of the lesser competition. No excuses Obiviously for disappearing the 2 games. But nice to see some progress from the summer league. In order for the knicks to win a title, the fo and the next hc have to be aligned with each other.

  6. This is gonna be like every other player they do great we don’t touch them and then they go somewhere else and be great and we get screwed

  7. Btw: No one gets better DURING A GAME. The only way to improve is practice, repetition, drills and skill development. Anyone thinking that playing time makes someone better, is clueless.

  8. Yes the comparisons are spot on. Mohamed Diawara and Pascal Siakam in Toronto. Absolutely right it will be Kevin McCullar and Dink Pate. Signing Guershon Yabusele has made in difficult to consider Ben Simmons but not impossible. Josh Hart and his 20 million contract will be collateral damage prepare for the ultimate roster. I still expect OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges for Giannis Antetokounmpo. After the trade deadline I expect LeBron James to seek a buyout to either come to New York or go to the Golden State Warriors. There will be no trades for LeBron James. Josh Hart and Mitchell Robinson for CJ McCollum. Knicks roster after the trade deadline. Jalen Brunson, CJ McCollum, LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Karl Anthony Towns.

  9. Give diawara that rookie spot I could see him in the starting lineup because of his length and defense he’s raw offensively but still can help. He’s good enough to assist for buckets

  10. Dude this is the worst team assembled in Knicks history in summer league what the hell are u watching.. comparing stiffs to all stars..
