Brett Siegel is “very confident” Zach LaVine and Domantas Sabonis will remain with the Kings

Will the will things open up for the Kings with Zack Lavine once he’s on an expiring deal or is he just making so much money even if it’s just one year nobody’s going to touch it? Well, we said the same thing about Michael Par Jr. of he’s stuck with Denver and they’re going to have to just keep him until the end of that contract. Not a bad player, but contract one of the worst in the league. Now we look at Zack Lavine and he only has that one more year left and then the player option. Maybe there is some optionality there where a team all of a sudden someone goes down their hopes of making the playoffs and being a real contender go down and maybe they’re willing to take back money and take back future picks in order to offload some salary to create that flexibility. And we saw the Nets do that after the whole Kevin Durant saga. Maybe there’s something that happens there with the Kings and Zack Lavine. But right now, I wouldn’t really expect anything on that front. He’s going to be on the Kings roster to start the season. Uh I feel very confident about saying that with the Montes Sabonis as well. He wants to stay there. His family loves Sacramento. They love being there. And he’s the face of the franchise now, especially with Dear Fox gone. So, he’s all these guys are still monitoring what’s going to happen with the Kings. Scott Perry, new GM, takes over, new philosophy. Doug Christy finally has a full year to really implement his system full off season to work with these guys. So, I think we are going to to have a different feel about the Kings this year. I think that they’re going to be a lot more energetic than they were to end last season. There’s going to be kind of not necessarily the same as when that bean team happened where there was all that energy with Mike Brown, but we’re going to see these guys come out and fight for Doug Christie. We’re going to see them come out and fight for Scott Perry. And they’re really going to try to cement themselves as a a true playoff threat in the Western Conference during those first few months of the season. Obviously, around the time of the NBA Cup, that’s going to be a very important time for them to really prove themselves. Kind of like we saw with the Pelicans during that first NBA Cup run when Zion and Brandon Ingram were there and we were talking about them. Oh, are they an up andcoming team in the West? And ultimately, injuries decided that for them, but I think that’s a similar path for what we’ll see from the Kings this year. But the West is stacked. I mean, there’s 13 teams that can legitimately get into the playoffs, whether it’s an actual playoff spot or via the playing tournament.

NBA Insider for ClutchPoints, Brett Siegel, joined The Allen Stiles Show Monday from the Las Vegas Summer League.

They discussed his confidence that Zach LaVine and Domantas Sabonis will remain on the roster, what’s next for GM Scott Perry, and more.
