Is winning the NBA coach of the year cursed? Why is that? Between 2018 and 2023, six coaches have won coach of the year. All of them have been fired. 2018, Dwayne Casey with the Raptors won coach of the year. Got absolutely embarrassed by LeBron and the Cavs in the playoffs. He won coach of the year and was fired the same year. That’s got to be like a first. That’s ridiculous, but okay. 2019, Mike Benhoer with the Bucks won coach of the year. They won a championship in 2021. He was then fired in 2023. Interesting. Nick Nurse 2021 coach of the year. Raptors won the title in 2019. He was also fired then in 2023. It might be actually cursed. Mike Tom Tibido 2021 coach of the year. Was he fired this year? Yeah. Another disappointing loss in the playoffs. Knicks decided to change course with the window. See you tips. The Knicks will be the Knicks. Monty Williams made the finals in 2021. Won coach of the year in 2022. The Suns then fired him literally a year later. That’s ridiculous. Mike Brown 2023 with the Kings. Coach of the year. He was fired within a year.

It is a dumb award. Phil Jackson, Chuck Daly, and Rudy T combined have as many coach of the year awards as Avery Johnson has by himself.

All but 1 of the finals winning coaches between 2019 and 2023 have been fired. Is winning the finals cursed? Of the coaches to make the Finals between 2012 and 2023, only multi-winners Kerr, Spoelstra and Popovich weren't fired. Is making the Finals cursed?
I dont think this means they're cursed, i think it means our criteria is wrong. No way any of those guys are better than Spo, yet spo hasn't won the award. We should stop giving the award to coach of a 1st seeded team just because they're 1st seeded team

As a Cleveland Browns fan I can tell you the irony of these coaches being fired is it just proves you have a front office that should be fired. Not allowing time for some stability and consistency is so mind boggling dumb. I mean, how many times were the Spurs bounced early and had disappointing playoff appearances during Popovich’s tenure? But ultimately they won 5 championships. And that’s bc they didn’t overreact and fire the team’s leadership

Coach of the year is an award given to coaches that exceed the expectations of what they are supposed to produce. It’s like MVP, after you win a few, you stop winning even though you may still be the best player in the year.
Coaches are fired only a few years later because the expectations are now much higher then they were when they won coach of the year. Tom Thibideaux and Mike Brown are the best example of this.
It’s not a curse. The NBA is just retarded. Let’s not punish the over paid players who only play half a season due to “load management” and injuries. Who never play defense and jack up 3s from half court.
