Atlanta Hawks Rumors: Executives WATCHING Trae Young’s FUTURE with Hawks

monitoring the future and status of Atlanta’s Trey Young. He has two years left on his deal this upcoming season, but he has a player option in 2026. He can be a free agent next summer. It’s going to be a much more flush market in free agency coming up. And listen, this is an Atlanta Hawks team that has made a ton of moves this off seasonason. Got Christos Porzingis. They can go several different directions with this team. They have a rising young team. They have guys like Jaylen Johnson, Zachary Reese. But the Hawks want to see how this team looks. Both Trey Young and Christos Porzingis are extension eligible. But Trey Young, by all accounts, I’m told, is locked in. He’s excited about this team. He really believes this team is as close to that team. Several years ago, they made it to the conference finals in the East. He’s excited. But I do know Trey Young a little bit, and I know once he gets into the season, he wants to focus on that season. So, if if there is no extension, we’re into the regular season. I would not be surprised if he just waits until the 2026 summer before any decisions on his future. Why would Trey Young leave? I don’t understand um why people are worried about him leaving Atlanta. If he is smart, he would stay. He has a chance to sign that extension for four years, 222 million. That’s true. Uh, but if y’all been looking closely this off seasonason for the Hawks, he’s been behind every move and every move that’s came in. He’s been greeting the guys, talking to the guys, trying to build a leader relationship like a leader would. Uh, so I think he’s locked in and I just think he’ll be in Atlanta for the foreseeable future. And honestly, I agree. He should wait till next year. Honestly, then they will know exactly where this team is at. They want to know how much money they had to spend in order to keep putting pieces around him. Porzingis is eligible for extension, but understood you’re going to give a 30-y old guy who’s been banged up his whole career $30 million now where it would work if they do make a three or $90 million deal. Anytime they want to move on from him, he’s could be a key part of a trade. and his contract is very tradable, meaning they can get anywhere from a starter to a mid-tier player to possibly a tier 2 superstar. Uh, so when I look at it, I think uh Trey is smart because he’s the number one guy in Atlanta. If he goes anywhere else or depending on what team that is, he could be bumped down to the number two or number three guy if he’s on superstar driven team. Uh, but will he get the same amount of money? uh going to another team. Yeah, he could down the road, but right at this moment, no. Uh because a lot of teams may not view him as the Atlanta Hawks, as you know, some of us NBA fans because of his hype. They talk about his defense. So, they’re building around his deficiencies. Um mainly on defense, probably what all of us are worried about. But he has improved on defense, especially last year, uh with this with the addition of Dyson Daniels. Uh it helped Trey pick himself up just a little bit defensively. And I think um he’s the number one guy here. Anywhere else it’s a toss up. Uh so I just think it’s smart for him to stay here.
