Is This The NBA’s Next Great Big?
Kyle Filipowski could be on the verge of a big sophomore season because after a three-game summer league stretch of 32, 21, and 35 points, the Jazz shut him down, having seen everything they needed to see. At 6’11, 250 lbs, he can shoot the three ball with volume. He’s a good enough ball handler to attack the rim or beat closeouts. He’s a decent passer who sees the floor well, so you can put the ball in his hands and run some offense through him up top. And he’s got a really nice post game capable of destroying mismatches. In addition to the versatility, he’s a master of the little things like screening, offensive rebounding, and positioning himself away from the ball to always be a threat. The question is whether or not he’ll be able to survive defensively. Between a lack of length, verticality, and discipline, he’s a weak rim protector who also lacks the foot speed to switch onto smaller players. And if he can find ways to make a difference, whether that’s with great positioning or active hands, he’ll be a very good center for a very long
Kyle Filipowski is an incredibly skilled and versatile offensive big, who could be on the verge of a big sophomore season with the Utah Jazz.
