NBA LIVE! Los Angeles Lakers vs OKC Thunder | July 19, 2025 Thunder vs Lakers 2K25 Live Pre Season
league history. He said, quote, “I don’t have a position. I’m not a point guard, a shooting guard, a small forward.” This guy’s one of one, Ally. Thank you. A look at the opening lineup for the Oklahoma City Thunder. They’ve got Shay Gilis Alexander. Homegrren is out there with Isaiah Hartenstein. Then it’s Alex Caruso and it’s Williams in at the three spot. And for the Lakers, DeAndre Aiden is out there with Ruachimura. Then it’s Luca Donuch. Then there’s LeBron James. And it’s Reeves in a two guard. And as is the case most nights, we’ve got a lot of talent in the back court for both of these squads. Clark. Yeah, there’s so many outstanding shot makers and playmakers in the back courts across the league. I do believe it is clearly a guards league these days. All of these guys can light it up and will light you up. So clearly a shooters league is what you see most of now. Here’s Reeves. Pass to James. And here’s Aiden. Hartinstein pulls it in. Boy, that’s got to be terribly frustrating there. I mean, with the defense not hustling and he still misses. Boy, he wishes he had that one back. Defensively, you have to stay connected to him on the perimeter. Here’s Reeves. James outside. Pass to Reeves. Back to James. James double team. shoots and dodges the bucket on the assist from James. Yeah, you know, LeBron is already top 10 in career assist, okay? And he’s also continuing to rack up the dimes and climbing just about every all-time chart there is in the NBA. Here’s Reeves. He’s guarded by Caruso. Achimura outside shoots over Holgrren and it’s Achimura missing. Donic against Gilis Alexander. Pass to Caruso. Six on the shot clock. The 11-footer. No luck on that one. And Los Angeles the other way now. And just one of the most impressive titles in league history, guys. The 2020 Lakers winning it all in the Orlando bubble. A testament to LeBron James and that team. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. And that one misses. You know that 2020 Bubble title for the Lakers. What made it so difficult? You know, BA, the mental grind of all that time in the bubble. Three months in the same place. NBA players are used to being in four cities in a week. So, it really was a different kind of challenge for them and he sinks the second. First quarter just about 2 minutes in. Gilas Alexander. So, it’ll be two free throws. He was fouled in the act of shooting that one on Donic. I love when Gilgus Alexander looks to score because it forces the defense to act. Watching SGA run this offense, he’s so patient and he reads the defense exceptionally well. Two shots. Nice. And the first one at the line is good. Yeah, Gil just Alexander really plays at his pace. Grant, you know, BA, he’s one of those guys the defense just can’t speed up and every move is purposeful. No wasted motion. He methodically breaks you down. And that’s good as he hits both shots. Making it look effortless. Send this guy to the stripe. He’s going to cash in more than not. Pass to Reeves. Aimura with the ball. James outside. Clock at six. Now here’s Dic. Can’t get the go-ahead bucket. And this is exactly who you want taking that shot. He just missed it. Pass to Gildas Alexander. Now here’s Caruso. Now Williams from deep. round up. Here’s Hardenstein. He’s covered by Eaton. Hartinstein no good. The Lakers have gone one of four to begin this one. Oh, and there’s the whistle on the shot. So, two free throws for him coming up. No debate there. He He got hammered. Blatant contact. Straightforward call. Simple. Yeah, despite being the youngest team in the league, the Thunder have been solid defensively the last couple years. A great sign going forward for this franchise. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. He misses the free throw. And looking at this Oklahoma City roster, what makes them so good on D? Well, they have loads of length. The Thunder have made a point to draft players with huge wingspans, making things difficult for opponents scoring wise. He hits the second from the line. First quarter of play and we’re about 3 minutes in. Outside Williams back to Gilas Alexander and play stops. A whistle there on what looks like an illegal screen. The screener was leaning a bit right there. His feet may not have been planted. Pretty obvious call by the officials. Yeah, I agree. You know, sometimes that can be a tough call for the refs to make, but not that time. It was easy there. The Thunder making a switch here. Dorch checked in. Got a piece of it. Here’s Williams. The Lakers with a rebound. And we’re just over three and a half minutes into this first quarter. Here’s Reeds. Aiden. No good. Well, you will not see that from him very often, especially right at the rim. Pass to Gildas Alexander. Back to Williams. over James. The Thunder with another miss. The Lakers trail. High arcing shot. They get it back. Here’s Donic. Gets it to drop now. Two of four. Luca is a big 67. Very strong. Deceptively so. He’s an extra forward out there rebounding the ball even though he’s got point guard skills when it’s in his hands. Williams shot is good. Boy, at the offensive end, his game is so impressive. I mean, he’s a threat every time up the floor. James against Williams. James can’t get it to go. Pass to Gilas Alexander. Back to Williams. Here’s Hardenstein and he got the whistle on the way up. So, he’ll be headed to the line for a pair. It’s going to be on DeAndre Aton. And for the Lakers, Clark, the last decade, they haven’t been as impressive. Well, you know, BA, there’s a reason for that. They’ve missed more playoff games in the last decade than the franchise’s entire existence. And a lot of it has been due to injuries. There’s no lack of talent. LeBron took on the challenge bringing a championship in the 19 and 20 season, but last year did not turn out as they were expecting and a big part of it was injuries and really trying to adjust to new personnel. The first free throw is good. and good on the second. So he makes them both. The Lakers shooting just 22% in the early stages of this one. Oh, and the jam by Aton. Excellent timing by Aton on the alley pass. He’s perfectly positioned to throw it down. It’s scooped up and you can count it. He’ll go to the line with a chance at a three-point play. Excellent activity and timing on the offensive glass. That’s how you get extra possessions. Now a timeout called by the Lakers. failing to find a rhythm offensively, something that needs to change and change soon. And I think this timeout, guys, is where you draw up some plays that are guaranteed to create some high percentage shots. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Now Los Angeles with it. It’s a five-point game. Pass to Aiden. Here’s Reeves. right side. Hayden with it. It’s deflected. Williams from long range. The Lakers with a rebound. Hatton’s got four rebounds in the game. And it’s AI Mura on the drive. The Thunder with the rebound. Dort against Hayden. Dort the pass to Williams. Now here’s Caruso. Guarded closely. Here’s Hardenstein. Buries it down low. Hardenstein’s got seven points. The ball distribution was there. I mean, outstanding work all the way around. James passes to Donic. And here’s Aiden to the left side wing and stolen by Caruso pushing it up the floor. Here comes Oklahoma City. Transition basketball. The most reliable way to generate easy looks. Yep, exactly. And if there’s any opportunity for early offense, you’ve got to push it and push it every time. The Lakers call timeout. Yeah, they’re hoping to turn things around with this timeout. Yeah, you know, they had to do something, anything to stop this run. You can’t just let it go on any longer. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. And the Lakers with some changes. Hayes has checked in for DeAndre Aiden. Vanderbilt comes in for Achie Mura and Vincent subbed in for Reeves. And Oklahoma City with a change here too. Wiggins has checked in. 19. Williams in the post. James is there. A chance to extend the lead to double digits, but it’s no good. Donic finds James. Now Hayes. Oh, they get a hand on it. Shot clock at six. A shot to stop the run. Benson can’t hit. Thunder with a lead. Gil just Alexander passes to Williams. Do it outside. Fires top of the key. They get it again. Second shot opportunity. Some solid defense from Hayes. 14 ft away. James can’t get it to go. Oklahoma City has gone two for four from range to start things off. And when Dort’s out there, Greg, he really gives this team a physical presence. Oh, I like this guy, BA. I mean, very strong, very aggressive at both ends. He makes a lot of hustle plays. Seems like every successful team has one or two of those guys like him. Boy, I like their energy coming in. Terrific execution so far. And you know, it’s an allout effort. They’ve come in with very aggressive offense so far. Now here’s Donic outside. Vanderbilt and he’s going to the line for two. The official saw contact while he was going up. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. The free throw dropped for Vanderbilt. Goodwins checked in for the Lakers. Second free throw no good. And for Oklahoma City, they’re shooting only 35% so far in this quarter and down it goes. Two points and the Thunder lead by 12. So far, they’re owning both ends of the floor. We’ll see if they can keep this going. And you know, nothing like getting an opponent on the ropes early. You love that if you’re on that side of the scoreboard. And they are landing some haymakers now. Now here is James. Well, quiet so far offensively, searching for his first points of the game. Benson fires in the triple and that’s on the defense giving him a decent look. That’s his shot. Wiggins outside. Pass to Joe. Here’s Wallace. Knocked away. Scored outside over Vanderbilt. Here’s Joe. Three-pointer off the mark. Los Angeles has gone one for three from Viard. Got a hand on it and they’ll keep possession. Hey, shots good. Well, you can’t give him any room to maneuver on the board because once he does, he’s going to make you pay. Wiggins finds Dort. Here’s Joe. He’s now one for two with that bucket. Now another view of that incredible mobile one drive. You’re toasting the defense and getting in close. They’ll take possessions like that one all day. Minute 32 left to play in the first quarter. Pass to Benson. James with the ball. Double team on James now. Hayes out to the right wing. Just five on the clock. And it’s good. Fought through contact, hit the shot, and will go to the line. Let’s look at the energy stats, how the hustle game has been going for the Thunder. They’ve really been disruptive on the defensive end, forcing turnovers and turning those turnovers into points at the other end. Yeah, I also like how they’ve im immediately gotten out in transition. They came to run and we’ll see if they can keep it up. Reeves has checked in for Los Angeles. and Wig. No good on that one. Well, the Lakers shooting just about 29% so far. Not great. Benson can’t hit. Oklahoma City has gone two of five from deep. Door up top. Here’s Joe. Pass to Wiggins. Here he goes. And Reeves pulls it down. Here’s Goodwin. Lets it go. The shot by Reeves. No good. And the defense gets bailed out by the miss. He usually converts that. One second separating the shot clock and the game clock. Now here’s Dort. Here’s Wallace. Well, no scoring yet from him, but that’s likely to change. And the layup is good off the glass. And the Thunder lead by 13. Really taking charge of the game largely with a detailed interior attack. And you know that involves pounding it inside. Getting as many points as you can right at the rim. That demoralizes a team. And an overpowering first quarter effort already. A double- digit advantage. It’s the Thunder. They lead by 13 and the second quarter about to get started. We’ll be back in a moment. And so far through one quarter, it’s been a lopsided game. We’ll see if that changes here in the second. And guys, we’ve seen the Thunder really take control here. Give it up for their D. They’re battling, communicating, and coming up with key stops. They’ve got them rattled. It’s only the first quarter and already they’ve made enough big plays on defense to last really an entire game. It felt like we’d become a league where every game turned into a three-point shooting contest. But Clark, we’ve seen different styles work. Exactly. Be I mean, take Chicago during the 21-22 year. I mean, they were fantastic offensively, yet near the bottom of the league in three-point attempts. Having teams with distinct offenses, I think makes the game a lot more fun to watch. Taking a look at Oklahoma City. They’ve got Isaiah Hardenstein. Alex Baruso is out there with Shay Gilis Alexander. Then there’s Homegrren and it’s Williams in at the three. Here’s Homegrren. Oh, Aidton with the block. Yeah, has all the physical gifts of a great shot blocker. Size, length, and agility. AI Merl from long range. Buries it from three. You have to love the unselfishness on display there. Excellent passing. And here’s Gilg Alexander outside Williams. Pass to Hardenstein inside. Williams shot is good. Williams has got eight. That’s been the story of their offense so far. Getting a number of looks from point blank range to the paint and finished off by Hayes. When you play with Luca now, Donic, he’s ready to find you if you’re open. So, you’ve got to be ready to receive. Quarter number two and about a minute in. Here’s Homegrren. Caruso right side. pass to Williams down low. Hardenstein and he floats it in for the easy two. Credit to sweet setup on that one. And the defense has no one to blame but themselves. I mean, they just let him get right to the rim. You know, he should be getting extra attention from the defense, not less. And just about a minute and a half has passed here in the second quarter. Aimura outside. Pass to Reeves. Fires the three. Hardenstein pulls it in. Hardenstein’s got a rebound number 12 here already in the game. Get Caruso outside this one for three. drops in the three. Kuso’s got his first three points of the game. Yeah, the guard instincts of Gilis Alexander. I mean, fantastic work dishing the rock to uncover teammates. Donic passes to Aimura. Donic with it. Squeeze. Five on the clock. The three. It’s rebounded by Oklahoma City. Hardenstein’s got 13 rebounds in the game. Glass eating. From deep. Gilis Alexander. Oh, the fender. Another three. You have to chase Gilgus Alexander off the ark. A guy with his confidence is just too dangerous. The Lakers call timeout. There’s just a lot of wide openen lanes to the rim here that’ll drive your coach nuts. And you know, I think he’s going to tell him simply, we have to show more fight on the interior. That’s the top priority right now. And the Lakers making a change here. James has checked in. All right, for those just joining us. So, we’re almost two and a half minutes into the second. Pass to Reeves now. James Williams defending looking to end the run out to the right wing. Shot is good by Reeves. Setting the table for his teammates. James enjoys sharing and passing the ball and getting others involved, I think, more than any other aspect of his game. Here’s Homegrren. Now here’s Williams. Checked by James from deep three-point range. And Aiden pulls it down. Hayden’s got his sixth rebound on the night go to the middle and stolen by Caruso outside Gilis Alexander and the shot counts. He’s fouled and it’s a chance for a three-point play. Running the show, Gilgis Alexander is talented as a passer. An unusual skill set for his size. Homegrren can initiate offense from every level on the floor. I mean, his versatility is unbelievable. You expect sevenfooters to operate off ball, but Homegrren is just as good with the ball in his hands. Grant, yes, he is, BA. I mean, we’ve seen him go coast to coast in the open floor, take his defender off the dribble, and get to the rim. And if you sag off him, well, he can just rise up and fire. Now, here’s Donic. Pass to Aimura. Hartinstein pulls it in and it’s Oklahoma City’s ball. They’re on a 13-5 run to the inside. Oh, it’s stolen by Donic. Hey, puts up a three. The shot by James. No good. Oklahoma City has gone two of four from the perimeter in the second so far. Pass to Homegrren. Donic pulls down the board. The Lakers have gone three for seven here in the second quarter. And the officials whistle a foul on the shot. The bucket is good and he’ll go to the line. Not to be denied, Hachimura has a great motor and competes with the best of them. Mind the lanes. Mind the lanes. One shot. Oklahoma City has gone four of nine so far from the perimeter. Caruso up top. Pass to Hardenstein. Back to Gilgis Alexander. I tell you, a little extra pressure on D when you’re up against a point guard who can elevate. It doesn’t make it easy, does it? And you know, guys, showing how dynamic a weapon he is for this offense. They feed off of that energy and ability to make plays. It gets them going. Now, here’s Williams. Give him eight points now. Unable to get that one. And Los Angeles the other way now. It’s James on the wing. Williams defending. James passes to Donic. The Thunder pull it in. Pass to Gildas Alexander and slam dunk by Gilas Alexander. The BA when he gets the rim at his sights, it’s tough to stop. So aggressive and a determined finisher. Nice. And guys, I like the fact that he chose the one hand tomahawk slam because you get a little higher when you go off one hand and one foot. Now here’s Williams. 19-point lead, which is the largest margin of the game. Here’s Donic. Pass to Reeves. Hayden with it. James outside from 10 ft away and misses it off the right side of the rim. Most nights this shot would have been his, but the defender gave him just enough trouble. two. That free throw good from Gilgis Alexander. The Thunder making a switch here. Dorch checked in. Both free throws good from Gilis Alexander. And the Lakers shooting just around 33% since the second quarter got underway. Aimura left side. Shot clock at six. Shot to end the cold streak. Here’s Aiden. Shots blocked and it’s out of bounds. Last touch by Homegrren. And we have to take another look at that block. Yeah, good offense comes from great defense. This lead is only getting stronger with plays like that. Vanderbilts checked in for Achi Mura. The Lakers really having a tough go here. James outside. Pass to Reeves. The shots good on the assist by James. Six points for him. Got to fight harder to get over those screens. Well, I’m going to credit the screen. I mean, that’s a good strong pick. He lays there. Tries again. and Gilgus Alexander missing. Los Angeles shooting poorly just 29% from the floor in this game. The Thunder have gone eight of 15 in the second with the defensive effort. Boy, patrolling the paint well, protecting the rim. That’s exactly the kind of defensive effort you need against him. To the middle, Vanderbilt and Vanderbilt slams it in. and something you never like to see, but guys, he definitely looks hurt. Yeah, that type of injury is always worrisome. Hopefully, he’s okay. You’re exactly right. I mean, with the way it looks, what we have to hope for now is that somehow it’s not a long-term issue. So, both teams making some changes here. And that one’s good. Homegrren Homegrren’s got five points in the quarter and just not letting up at all. I mean, you have to love this approach. You want to get the ball to the guys who make plays. If it’s working, keep working it. That’s what I say. Keep the pressure on them. Now, here’s Aiden. James outside. Jacks up a three. I think he’s gone completely dry. Nothing is hitting and you know, you can sense his frustration. This is going to be a test of his resolve here. And for the Lakers, they’re shooting just around 33% since the second quarter got underway. Pass to Vanderbilt. Here’s Reeves. Down to five on the shot clock. The Lakers got to get one up. Late clock. Here’s Donic. Oh yes, the turnaround. Donic just got six. You know, in this day and age, you expect most players to drive it or shoot the three. Luca utilizing the 15 to 20 foot range here. Good idea. Here’s Homegrren. He’s got five. Got a piece of it. Stolen by Vanderbilt. Here’s Donic. That one off to back iron it out. Oklahoma City’s gone two of five from distance here in the second quarter. down low. It’s stolen by Donic. Pass to James. No one near him and he hits the jump shot. Quick on the shot. Love watching LeBron go right up with that jumper. And here’s Wiggins. Now here’s Caruso. Oh, a clear foul there on the missed shot. So, he’ll get a pair at the line. And even from where we’re sitting, you could clearly tell it was a foul. No question about it. I mean, a ton of contact and a good call by the official The free throw drops for Caruso and the Lakers with some changes. Goodwins checked in for Reeves and Vincent is subbed in for Luca Donuch. And Caruso drops them both. The Lakers shooting at 32% from the floor. Not good. Pass to Aiden. Back to Vincent. Pulls it. The Lakers with the rebound. Tipped away. Kick it out. Kick it out. Here’s Wallace now. Caruso. Pass to Wiggins. Here’s Wallace. The three. Hits a three-pointer. Five points in the game. Gets the shot he wants. The defense wasn’t quite connected enough. They lost contact. LeBron led the NBA in assists during his 2020 title season with the Lakers becoming the second oldest player ever to lead the league in that category. Here’s Vincent. Six on the shot clock. James can’t get it to go. Tell you what, that is a missed opportunity from mid-range for sure with as little defense as was shown. Should have made that one. And how sweet was that play? Pinpoint pass set up the alleyoop flush. Guys, I tell you, there are assist and then there are delicious dimes. This was the latter. Here’s Aiden. The Thunder making their last shot. Back to Vincent. They get the rebound and Aiden gets it to go. I mean, come on. A seven-footer with a 75 wingspan. Aiden beats everyone to the ball and converts easily. Now, here’s Caruso. Seven points in the game inside. Trying to find a spark here. Yes, indeed. A rough stretch offensively. They could really use a basket to the wing on the left. Good one. He goes up again. Second chance effort. Aiden. No good. Man, the defender really went after him. Yeah. If you’re going to foul, then make sure that you don’t give a chance for the and one. The free throw drops for Karut. So both teams deciding to change it up. And Caruso drops them both. Caruso against James. And that one’s good. James has got four points now in the quarter. Yeah, you know, LeBron is such a talented finisher. The defense in that situation just unable to keep him from that shot. And despite the height disadvantage, oh my, he just attacks that interior. You know what, guys? Honestly, I didn’t think he’d win that battle. I mean, that’s a lot of height to give up. What a performance for Shay Gilgis Alexander. He has been the story for Oklahoma City, impacting the game in a number of ways. The man is relentless. All right, stick around. We’ll be right back after this. And now, the 2K Sports Halftime Show. Welcome back to 2K Sports everybody. Ernie Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny the Jetmith. Let’s talk about that first half. Shay Gilis Alexander led the way in the first half. He had 13 points, two rebounds, and two assists. Kenny, let’s get your take on Oklahoma City. Their passing was clearly superior in the first half. They were playing a team game, not one-on-one basketball. Good player movement, good ball movement, and they have a healthy lead to show it. Shaq, what was your takeaway on the Lakers? And they were gutting a little too much from downtown. Uh they can’t afford to become dependent on that shot. They got to compete the consistent way. I like to see them mix it up more in the second half. And that’ll do it for us. The third quarter about to begin with Kevin Harland standing by. We’ll catch you on the flip side, my brother. And there wasn’t too much drama in the first half, but maybe things will tighten up here in the second. You know, Shay Gilis Alexander has been exceptional here, guys. Yeah, tonight he’s done a great job of slashing through the lane and finishing. Yeah. You know what, guys? They gave him too many free runs to the hoop in the first half. I think they’ve got to be a lot tougher on him. Body him up, be physical with him. And after a very lopsided first half, we’ll see if things play out a little more evenly in the second. Rui Hachimura is out there with DeAndre Aiden. Then there’s LeBron James. Then it’s Luca Donuch. And it’s Reeves. And at the shooting guard position, that’s the Laker five. Who got him? Aimura outside. They swipe it. Caruso with it now. Donic defending. Tries it from 16 and a foul called on the way up. So he’ll take two from the free throw line. It’s on LeBron James. Brad, it’s amazing how Homegrren transforms your defense when he’s on the floor. Yeah, BA. I mean, he really makes up for a lack of strength with length and tremendous timing. He has the lateral footwork to defend one through five as well. And of course, he can block shots from any spot on the floor. shooting two. And he makes a first. and he makes both free throws. Set it up. Set it up. And for the Lakers, they’re shooting only 31% in the game. Pass to Reeves. Back to Donic. Right wing. Here’s Reeves. Hartinstein pulls it in. Hardenstein’s got 15 rebounds here tonight outside. Williams for three and the three-pointer goes. Williams has got 11 points. Pick works well there, but the defense left a lot to be desired. Yeah, that’s not the defense you need. You got to be tougher defensively. All right, time for an injury report. Okay, let’s find out the news on Shay Gilis Alexander. Ally, what’s the update? Thanks. I just talked with Oklahoma City’s head athletic trainer, and he confirmed that it’s a hyperextended elbow. They’ve got ice on it now, but it has to be causing a lot of pain for him. Sitting out the rest of this game is a no-brainer, and the truth is it could take a long time for this injury to fully heal. Unsettling news, guys. Okay, thanks for the update. Good to get that information. Now we know how things are coming along, Grant. That’s true. It’s the uncertainty factor with injuries that can be so hard to handle. Hey, you know, for him just watching his teammates unable to contribute, that’s really a helpless feeling. Here’s Homegrren. He’s got 11. Pulls it in from the elbow. Caruso misses. The Lakers have gone just one of three in the second half. Back to Donic. shoots over Caruso. Donic. Good. Give him eight points. Now you can trust Luca to make the most of a close shot. I mean, he won’t waste a high percentage look most times. Pass to Hardenstein over Aiden. Hartenstein no good. It’s the fire he’s playing with that has him leading the team in rebounds. And I tell you what, guys, nobody’s been more physical in this game than he has. He has been a glass eater. Williams misses for Los Angeles. They’ve gone two of five in this third quarter. Pass to Reeves. Donic outside and Donic hammers it home. Donic doing a nice job showing you some sneaky explosion and athleticism on that throw down. Third quarter of basketball here. A little under three and 1/2 minutes gone by. Here’s Joe. Pass to Hardenstein. Rebounded by the Lakers. Aiden’s got rebound number 13 tonight with that one to the wing, right side. James outside. Here’s Reeves. ball. He missed it. So, he’s got a couple of free throws coming his way. It’s going to be on Alex Caruso. Man, he made sure to get his money’s worth on that foul. He got him good there. I mean, that’s why the shot was so far off. Two. Two. That free throw no good. Wiggins, he’s checked in for Caruso. Good on the second one. Oklahoma City has gone six for 12 from deep so far in this game. Here’s Joe guarded by Donic. Pass to Wiggins. Again, no good by Oklahoma City. And he probably thought he was going to bury that one. Ooh, took him no time at all to get that one. 10 points for him. It’s been a blowout thus far, but they’re trying to get back into the game. Exactly. I mean, it had to happen here in the third. Now, they’ve got the run going and I think they’ve got to keep it going. Now, here’s Joe. Back to Wiggins. Just four to shoot. And the officials call a traveling violation. And it’s a Lakers ball. They’re on a 10-2 run here. Donic passes to Aimura. They got him. They got him. Releases from 15. Donic. No good. Oklahoma City’s gone one of two shooting from the perimeter since halftime. And just a great job of getting there first and absorbing the contact. No question about it. No flop there. That was a direct shot to the chest. Now James. Here’s Aimura and he’ll draw the foul. He’ll head to the line for two. Everyone in the building saw the obvious contact. Yeah, the officials didn’t need to talk that one over. It was obvious. All right, guys. Let’s get your take on the scoring breakdown for the Thunder. Well, you love their unselfish play. keeping that ball moving. Good shot to great. That’s winning basketball. You know something else, guys? You know, they came out of that tunnel sprinting in a full stride sprint that translated to the floor and lots of success in the fast break game. First one falls for him. And both free throws good for Aimura. Oklahoma City has gotten six of 13 shots to go from outside the ark. Williams against James looking to end the drought. Here’s Hardenstein. Rebound. The Lakers. Aton. The Lakers have gone four of eight in the third. Pass to James and stolen by Williams. Here’s Homegrren. Aimura covering Wiggins outside. Shooting two. No good on that one. Hayes has checked in for the Lakers. And he’s good on the second. On offense, here are the Lakers. They’re on a 12-3 run. Here’s Reeves. 10 points for him. Hey, you’re in front of him. James outside. Five to shoot. There’s the block. Williams with it. Picked up by James. Pass to Wallace. Over to the wing. Here’s Homegrren again. No good by Oklahoma City. Los Angeles has gone one of two shooting from the perimeter since halftime. Looking to get back on track. Oh, and he got fouled on his way up. He’ll head to the line to shoot two. Hey, there are guys who have played as long as LeBron. Okay. But how many have maintained their physical abilities the way he has so late in his career? I think that’s a short list. That one’s off. Some changes now for the Lakers. Vanderbilt’s checked in for Aimura. Goodwin comes in for Reeves. And Vincent is subbed in for Donic. And the second free throw is good. Oklahoma City’s gotten six of 13 shots to go from outside the arc. Here’s Wallace. He has seven from 10 ft away. That one is off. Here’s Goodwin pounded by Wiggins. Takes one from 10 ft and the jumper is good. Well, they’re on the right path now, but still in a pretty big hole. That kind of deficit, I think they’re going about it the right way. I mean, they’ve got to get aggressive on defense. They need stops. And then you got to take care of the basketball at the other end so you get a good shot every trip. And so it’s Oklahoma City with it following the score by the Lakers. And he was fouled while in the act of shooting. So he’ll take two free throws. It’s going to go on Jackson Hayes. Man, good whistle there. Yeah, you can hear the smack all the way over here where we are. shooting two. The free throw drops for Wiggins. hits one then misses the second attempt from the line. Now Los Angeles with it. They’re on a 15-4 run. Goodwin no good. I think he wants that one back. I mean, he knows he’s capable of better. Wiggins outside. The three is up. nails it from three. 10 points for him. Got to fight harder to get over those screens. Well, I’m going to credit the screen. I mean, that’s a good strong pick. He lays there. Now, here is James. He’s got five offensive board Hayes. And so, he draws the foul. Headed to the line to shoot a pair. No good on the free throw. Come on. He hits the second from the line. Oklahoma City has gone seven of 14 from the perimeter in this one. Pass to Wallace. Takes a three. James with the rebound. The Lakers have gotten five of 12 shots to drop in the third. Really left him alone that time. Vincent’s got six. Defensively, there was a lack of aggressiveness and it really made it easy for him to knock that shot down. Williams against James. Pass to Wiggins. Takes the three. It’s Hayes with the rebound. Hayes has got six rebounds now in the game. He shoots a three. The shot by James. No good. It’s clear he’s totally out of sync. The team needs to rethink its strategy around what to do with him. outside for Dort. Lets it fly, gets to the corner and hits it. So Dor’s got his second basket. The Lakers have gotten six of 14 shots to drop in this third quarter. Here’s Hayes, and he lays it up and in. Sensational ball movement there. When you pass the ball like that, good things happen. Oklahoma City has gone two for five from three since halftime. Oh, and he got fouled on his way up. He’ll head to the line to shoot two. It’s going to go on Jackson Hayes. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. That free throw no good. Good on the second one. The Lakers have gotten seven of 15 shots to hit in this second half. Back to James. Uses the glass on the layup. James has got seven points. You know, LeBron in the paint, I think, is major trouble for just about every defender. He can power his way to the basket or he can pass you into being dizzy. Now, here’s Wiggins. Take break. Take break. Two shot. That free throw misses and the Lakers making a change here. Aimura’s checked in. Caruso, he’s checked in for Oklahoma City. And he sinks the second. Here’s Vincent. He has six. Pass a good one. James up top over Williams. And the Lakers tack on two more. Well, the whole floor is wide open for LeBron. I mean, he’s got just the right kind of touch for those mid-range shots. Here’s Wallace. There’s a minute 17 left to play in the third. Here’s Williams. The Thunder with another miss. Los Angeles has gone two for five from three since halftime. To the paint. Here’s Ashimura. And a foul called on the way up. So he’ll take two from the free throw line. It is I mean no reason to back off and give him the layup. I mean, much better off making him go to the line. Two shots. The first one falls. And both free throws good for Aimura. And here are the Thunder now. 13-point lead. outside Williams. Pass to Wallace. Back to Caruso. Clock at six with a step back. Aimuro with a rebound. I don’t know if you can credit the defense for that. It was just a missed opportunity. And he’s going to the line for two. The officials saw contact while he was going up. It’s going to be on Alex Caruso. Well, that was clearly a foul. Yeah, he took a shot there. Earned those free throws. two and he drops a first. DeAndre Eaton. He’s checked in for Vanderbilt. And both free throws good for Achi Mura. 24 seconds left to play in the third quarter here. Here’s Wallace. 11 points in the game. Oh, rejected by Eightton. Here’s Vincent. Off the mark. And so it’s the Oklahoma City Thunder. They lead by 11 as the quarter comes to a close. Their play has earned them a nice lead, one they’ll look to build on as the game continues. Back to the game after this break. And while we have a chance, let’s go to our State Farm assist of the game. You have to love his unselfishness and ability to make those around him better. Well, clearly he’s the guy that stirs the drink for him, and that’s how he does it with his dynamite passing skills. And one quarter to go in a game that to this point has not been an evenly fought contest. Taking a look at Oklahoma City. They’ve got Alex Caruso. Isaiah Hardenstein is out there with Lou Dor. And it’s Joe in at the one. Here’s Reeves. shoots over Caruso and a miss there with a chance to cut the lead to single digits. Oklahoma City has got seven of their 16 three-point attempts to go in out to the wing. Pass to Joe. Dor with it. Just five to shoot. Oh, it’s stolen by Ashimura. Dor with a steal over Ashimura. A quick shot there. It’s off target to the inside and Aton with the stuff. Yeah, looking at Aiden using all of his height and reach, slamming it down on a helpless defense. Back to Williams. Here’s Joe. Guarded by Donic. Six on the shot clock. Stolen by Aiden. Pass to James and slam dunk by James. Boom. LeBron. He’s still got major bounce and force on the fly. Here’s Dort. And that one’s long. The Lakers have gone two of three to open the fourth quarter. James passes to Donic. These calls can be so difficult for officials to make. Yeah, but in this case, I think he got it right. I mean, the defender was still moving there and never really had good legal guarding position. He wasn’t set. Wiggins, he’s checked in for Dorton. And a second look at that rejection, taking no prisoners on defense there. Yeah, obviously he had the shot well anticipated. Able to shut it down with authority. Donic outside. Can’t get it to drop. Good work defensively by Caruso. Pass to Joe. Wiggins outside. Here’s Hardenstein. Back to Wiggins. Just five on the clock. over James and they’ll get another chance. Wiggins outside down to five on the shot clock over James. The shot off that time and Los Angeles the other way now takes it inside. and he gets it to go. James has got four points this quarter. There aren’t many guys that can match LeBron when he’s in a really good scoring rhythm. Asserting himself on offense is problems for the defense and good for his team. Outstanding dribble drive. And that replay was brought to you by Mobile One. Whoa. A drive like that is the kind of play that can shift the entire outcome of a close game like this one. Now a timeout called by Oklahoma City. Yeah, they’re hoping to turn things around with this timeout. Yeah, you know, they had to do something, anything to stop this run. You can’t just let it go on any longer. Heat. Heat. Homegrren. He’s checked in for Oklahoma City. And from the sideline, let’s catch up with Allie. Thanks, guys. Mark Dagnel had some words for his team over the last break. He complimented the three-point shooting. He said, quote, “It’s one thing to get the look, it’s another to bury it. I believe in you guys. I think you’ve got this game on lock. Let’s go out there and let’s take this, guys.” Okay. Thanks, Ally. Here’s Homegrren driving inside. Oh, he took a hard foul on the shot. So he’ll head to the line to shoot a pair. It’s on Ruy Aimura. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. He’s off on the first. And the Thunder making a change here. Mitchell’s checked in. and he’s good on the second. The Lakers have gone three of five since this fourth quarter started. Pass to Reeves. Back to Donic. Aimura outside from nine ft out. Tipped. Williams against Donic. Mitchell with the ball. Some room here for Williams. Nails the wideopen jumper. You know, the defense has to be better. I mean, you can’t give up that look. Donic passes to James. Donic against Mitchell. Donic on the wing. Four on the clock. The shot by Reeves. No good. The shooter thought he had enough space, but the defender was right on. You know, that’s a trademark of his defense. quick to react, close down the shooter, and then affect the shot. To the right side, outside Williams. Six to shoot. Pass to Wallace. From deep. Rebound. The Lakers. Payton’s got his 16th rebound on the night. Here’s Aimura. It’s tipped. Caruso right side. Ooh, good finish at the rack off a slick feed. Man, what a pass that was there. He really really relishes making the game easier for his teammates. Back to Donic. As to Aimura. Here’s Reeves. Hartinstein pulls it in. Hardenstein’s got his 20th rebound here tonight. Outside Williams. James against Caruso. And there’s the whistle. Illegal screen is the call. That’s a tough walk back to the showers. I’m pretty sure he’d like to have a couple of those plays back. The Lakers have gotten just three of nine shots to go in. Struggling this fourth quarter. Tries to snap the cold streak and the foul on the shot. So, he’ll take two from the free throw line. And you look at the intangibles of Luca Donic. He has some of the best court awareness in the league. And that shows up most with his passing and body control. Two shots. Nice on the pitch. First free throw is good and the way Donic can feel the defenders around him speaks to his great court sense. Grant a no question and the elite footwork he has makes the most of it. I mean one of the best at shielding defenders with his body. It’s really how he can navigate through a defense with ease. Williams has checked in for Oklahoma City. Donic hits them both. Luca Donic is a superstar in this league and he continues to build on what is going to be some kind of resume when it’s all said and done. Has every tool that you need to have to be an MVP one day. Now here’s Caruso. Pass to Williams and he was camped in the lane there. He gets a 3second call. Williams has checked in for Williams. The Lakers trail. James outside. So it’ll be two free throws. He was fouled in the act of shooting. Yeah, the defense has to be careful with LeBron. I mean, he’s a clever shooter who knows how to draw fouls. He uses his body really well. And he knocks down the first one. Dor, he’s checked in for Oklahoma City. Both free throws good from James. Thunder with a lead. Outside Williams. Pass to Caruso. Here’s Wallace. Three-pointer and Aiden pulls it down. Aiden’s got rebound number 17 if you can believe that. Oh, and there’s the whistle on the shot. So, two free throws for him coming up, man. Good whistle there. Yeah, you can hear the smack all the way over here where we are. First one falls for him. Good on both. Oklahoma City has gone 0 for two from outside here in the fourth quarter. Here’s Williams. No good on the shot. Good work defensively by James. Out to the right wing. Donic outside. Inside Dort with a steal. Caruso pass to Williams. Good on the shot. Williams has got four points now in the quarter. The value of good ball movement isn’t lost on this squad. It’s James on the wing. Aimura outside. Shot clock at six. The three ball. The Thunder pull it in. Here’s Wallace. Good D by Dantic. And for the Lakers, they’re shooting around 30% since the fourth quarter got underway. James can’t get it to go. The Thunder shooting 27% here in the fourth. It seems like every miss ends up in his hands. He’s been unreal. Tell you what, those are crazy numbers, guys. I mean, believe me, I was a good rebounder in my day. It is not easy to corral that many boards in one night. Boy, and that is a bunch of rebounds for a player who’s not the biggest guy out there. Here’s Wallace. Back to Caruso. Outside Williams. Oklahoma City’s got to hurry. They got to get up a shot. Count that bucket. Defensively, you just can’t afford to give these easy looks up. Just asking to get burned if you do. And the Lakers call time here. Failing to find a rhythm offensively. Something that needs to change and change soon. And I think this timeout, guys, is where you draw up some plays that are guaranteed to create some high percentage shots. Let’s go. Heat. Heat. And now a moment to present the New Balance player of the game. He’s been relentlessly attacking the glass. The level of energy and the toughness that he’s displayed, boxing out the other guys, getting physical. Oh, just domination. Man, if only he could play this well every night. This hometown crowd was not prepared for him to just go off like he did in this one. Now here is James. Pass to Aiden and he was fouled while in the act of shooting. So he’ll take two free throws. And when Eightton isn’t playing basketball, either the live or video game version, he’s often drawing. Yeah. I mean, he grew up wanting to be an architect. I actually hear that he loves blueprints, but probably his most famous sketch himself dunking on Joel Embiid his rookie year. two and he can’t get the first one. Yeah. What I appreciate about Aiden is that he wants to keep getting better. You have to be excited about his future. He hits the second from the line. Oklahoma City has gone 0 for three here in the fourth. Caruso outside. Pass to Wallace outside. Williams. And here’s Caruso. Fires for three. Rebound by the Lakers. Donic has got seven rebounds in the game. Here’s Reeves. Caruso grabs the board. Caruso’s got six rebounds in the game. Williams up top. Here’s Wallace. Six to shoot. With the tear drop, lays out and they recover it. You can add another offensive rebound to the tally. Just one of the areas where they’re taking him to the task. Fighting for the rebound. making sure they take back possession. Donic against Caruso and they doubled up Donic. Here’s Reeves and the Lakers get it back and again no good by the Lakers. Thunder with a lead. Here’s Wallace. Pass to Williams. Five on the clock. Yes, he nails it. Williams has got six points in the quarter. They’ve been having major problems offensively. Definitely in a bit of a dry spell. Here’s James. He’s off on the layup. And for the Thunder, they’re shooting just 38% for this game so far. Here’s Wallace. And his fifth make of the game in 12 attempts. Where’s the rim protection? That’s just too easy for him. James outside. deflected. Oklahoma City has got nothing to fall from outside the ark here in the fourth. 0 for four. Pass to Dort Caruso with it. To the middle. Here’s Williams. Rejected by James. Boy, a superb shot blocker. LeBron continues to add to his highlight reel of impressive rejection. Two seconds. So the first one drops and that brings him within 10. Second free throw no good that time. He really wanted that one. And this is the problem with playing from behind. Missing freebies takes on greater importance. And the clock is going to expire on an impressive allaround win for the Thunder. Well, Grant, I don’t know if there was one deciding factor in this game, but I’d say shooting accuracy if I had to choose. Agreed, BA. They really went after quality looks and shot the ball with confidence. Now here’s Donic down low. Aimura. Count it. Good. Coaches love to see ball movement, especially when it gets you that kind of look. Pass to Wallace. Now here’s Caruso. It’s Hardenstein high post. He’s against Aiden. Wallace’s shot is good. They really came in with the right mindset today. I can guarantee you their flight home will be filled with some smiles. Yep. To have a stressfree win on the road very satisfying. The fans are already headed for the exits. And so Oklahoma City takes this one. And by a big margin, they have to feel good about this performance. It’s one they can be proud of. Very true. I mean, when you’re out on the road, the winds can feel a little sweeter. This one has to feel extra special. Thank you for joining us. That’ll do it for now. For Clark Kellogg, Grant Hill, and Ally Leforce, this is Brian Anderson. Thank you for watching. We’ll see you next time. Have a great evening.
