Spurs SL Star David Jones Garcia
What’s going on everyone? So, we got to talk about David Jones Garcia. Now that the Spurs have officially finished summer league, their biggest bright spot was David Jones Garcia. David Jones Garcia was I mean did everything. Rebound, defended, made plays for himself, made plays for other, could score the basketball. I mean, he was third overall in summer league in scoring. He averaged uh 24.3 points per game. Um he also shot 63% from beyond the ark with 5.3 rebounds, four assists, and almost two steals, one 1.7 steals per game. So again, a guy that showed a little bit of everything, right? And he was the real standout for the Spurs. I mean, he he finished the against Detroit in the, you know, consolation game with 23 points, right? So he’s a guy that I think could come in immediately and have an impact. Like I think he’s a guy that could actually get run as soon as this season. He’s 23 years old, right? So no, you look at like even like a Harrison Ingram, right? 22 years old, but I felt like it was just kind of another guy out there at times, right? Like there there wasn’t he wasn’t this like huge standout for me personally. And you know, Spurs have two open ro spots. I think you bring David Jones Garcia in on the main ro spot, kind of give him an opportunity, maybe sign him to your deal, kind of see what can he provide you, what can he bring uh to this Spurs team. Uh because of his kind of versatility, him kind of being this, you know, 65, 66 area type of guy. I think he’s a guy that can kind of come in, slot in, you can put him at the two or the three for you. He’s a guy that can shoot the basketball, shoot over the top, get to the rim, apply rim pressure, shoots the three ball. I’m not expecting him to shoot 60% from three-point range in the actual NBA. That happens, watch out, right? But realistically speaking, I I think, you know, if he can be a, you know, 38% three-point shooter, you know, on pretty good volume. The the question is with Jones Garcia, how much opportunity will he have on the Spurs team to kind of just go create, right? because you saw in in the summer league, right? His ability to just give him the ball and just go make something happen. Go score the basketball, make plays for others, right? Kind of kind of be that that that two guard for you that can do multiple things out there, but put the ball in the hoop, right? Like I look at him right now as and I’m not saying that this will be his role forever. I mean, it could be, but you know, I look at him right now as kind of that bucket getter off the bench, right? playing that like Lou Williams role like a guy obviously much bigger but you know a guy that comes in comes off the bench right go and just hey just go be you go hoop go score the basketball help rebound play some defense do some dirty work right you know what you did in summer league yeah okay we want you to do that very thing here on this roster when you’re in the game right and there’ll be moments where it’s like hey we’re going to need you play more right like he can be chameleon like but I think his best attribute is to kind of just give him the ball and let just go just go get a bucket, right? I I could see him in that sort of like Demar Drosen type at some point where he’s just kind of that steady constant just bucket getter. A guy that, you know, like you need a bucket, you throw him in, right? Put, you know, some defensive pieces, some shooting around him, right? Let him just go to work, right? Let him hoop and and score the basketball. But the problem is is again you got De’arren Fox, you got you know Dylan Harper, you got Stefon Castle, you have Devin Vel, you have Kell Johnson. I think at some point they’re probably consolidate a Devin Vel and a Kell Johnson whether it’s individual trades or just like one big trade. We’ll see how that kind of plays out. Um I think that I think you’re going to see a consolidation trade regardless because they’re going to have to start paying guys soon, right? Darren Fox is going to get a new contract. On top of that, after him, it’s Victor Women. He’s gonna get a real contract and then it’s Stefan Castle and then Dylan Harper and so on and so forth. So, you kind of just go down the list of guys and it’s like, you know, this roster is going to get pretty hefty in the next few years. Now, that doesn’t mean you have to do something today or tomorrow or something. They they have, you know, a year or so before they need to really figure some stuff out, but I think if you bring like let’s say you bring in a David Jones Garcia and he shows you during the regular season what he showed you in summer league. Now I definitely think you don’t need a Devin Vel. Right now I def because now you have, you know, you have a David Jones Garcia that can slot in and play kind of that that Devin Vel Kellen Johnson role, right? Be a guy that could be that bucket getter, make some plays, kind of just, you know, be that steady constant for you. So you know, could he potentially be even like the Devin Vel replacement, right? Could he be the, you know, Kell Johnson replacement to where now you can maybe go take those guys, package them or one of them and then go make a move to go land, you know, upgraded piece or a more veteran piece or, you know, again, I’m not saying you have to do it today. It might be in the Spurs best interest to kind of get into the season, kind of evaluate through between now and like maybe the trade deadline and kind of see, okay, where are we at, right? Are we are we currently a playoff team? Are we a playin team? Are we out of the playing? Right. Is it worth for us? Like, is it working with these guys? Do we need to go get somebody else? Right? How is Wimi and Fox and all of them feel it? Right? If you’re out of the playing, are they kind of like, dude, go make a move type thing, right? Like again, I I I think it might be in the Spurs interest to just stay the course, be patient, right? Like obviously they’re not going to trade any of like their core young guys, but even like of a cell and stuff going to see like, okay, sought him in, right? especially while Dylan Harper is growing and developing. You know, you don’t want to put too much on his plate in year one. Maybe he’s able to handle it and take it, but you know, you if you can, you want to kind of wean him into it. So, you have like a Deon Vel out there who can kind of provide and play some of that role that you’d be looking for Dylan Harper to be, but you also don’t want to take away from Dylan Harper. You also want to be able to allow him to to blossom and grow and develop and work and hone on his craft in his game. So, it’s kind of this fine line that the Spurs are going to have to figure out. And I definitely think David Jones Garcia kind of throws a wrench into all of it personally, right? Because it’s just like, you know, he was so good in summer league, you have to bring him in, right? It would almost be criminal in a lot of ways to just see. Now, that doesn’t mean that he’s going to translate to the NBA. See, a lot of guys that are really good in the G-League, clearly better than the G-League, clearly better than everyone in summer league, and end up getting to the NBA, and they’re just they’re never more than just that like 15th guy off the bench. They’re never more than like a garbage time guy, right? Cuz you know, again, the NBA is so different. It’s not it’s it’s almost a different sport compared to GLeague and summer league and these other things, right? The the talent level, the size, all of that. So, you know, if you’re you know, if you’re David Jones Garcia, I think you’ve shown enough to warrant a main roster spot, especially with the open roster spots. Like, who else are you going to bring in, right? Like, you don’t have a lot of needs. you’re going for like upside, a guy that could, you know, kind of raise the ceiling for you that that it would be the cheapest route but still maintain in the core. I David Jones Garcia is that you could if you want a veteran guy, you still have another roster. You go bring in a veteran guy. If you want to take a flyer on a guy like Nemani Bates, some you still have the roster spot to where you could do that. But I think you at least bring in David Jones Garcia, bring him onto the main roster. you kind of fill in some guys on the on the two-way that you like and then now you have David Jones Garcia kind of evaluate him during training camp and whatnot and then see right and then like I said that might open up the potential for like okay cool we can move a Deon Vel and be comfortable here we can remove a you know uh move a Kell Johnson and be comfortable here right get off of some of these guys if need be and we’re still comfortable because David Jones Garcia can kind of slot in and play that role um for this team so we’ll see see how it all plays out but anyway as always this is a discussion I pass question to Let me know your thoughts and opinions down in the comments. Spurs David Jones Garcia was a star of summer league. Jones Garcia really made a name for himself and deserves a roster spot for a young spurs team.

Need some consistency. Something Vassell and Johnson have not provided
I think this is the most entertaining Summer League we've had in a while and he was the spark plug, the ballin and flexin', we are very lucky to have him land on our roster.
He reminds me of a Boris Diaw 2.0!
Jones would give our bench even MORE dept!
I'm pumped GO SPURS GO!
Sign DJG. No big deal when you look at the big picture. Maybe this new addition will help Fox decide to take a Brunson-like extension contract. Move Castle to the 3 and trade KJ in Feb. Try to make a combo deal where we get a high quality PF who can rebound.
DJG just needs his shot and he will take off! 🔥🔥🔥
I would love to see David Jones Garcia get minutes as a player who can come off the bench for a few minutes and just totally disrupt a team's second or third unit.
David Jones Garcia is a good scorer. Got some rebounds. He probably plays the shooting guard or small forward position. Lost the ball on a few occasions. Certainly stands out on the Spurs summer league team. Wonder if he can put up scores like Gilbert Arenas. After trading away 2 guards, the Spurs are still very congested at the 1,2 and 3 position. and a deficiency at the 4 position. Barnes' contract is for this year. Sochan's contract is also for this year. Harper indicated he is aiming for Rookie of the year award, which means he needs some playing time, like what the Spurs gave Castle. The award will most likely go to Cooper flagg who will definitely be a starter. Castle played a lot at Small forward. Castle and Keldon johnson are actually the versatile 1-3 position players and not power forwards. so the Spurs could play them as PFs and that leads to the gap at the power forward position. Hopefully Olynyk can cover that position sufficiently. I think David Jones Garcia has potential as a scorer. If he plays the 3, there is Carter bryant, Champagnie.
Sign him to a 2 year with team option. He is hungry, and hustling
Add him to the roster in case of injury, trade, etc. he is playing with confidence, which is valuable for a bench player.
I do get that you h1ve to be selfish to stand out but as a guard he doesn t give the ball too much and passing the ball making the extra pass is the DNA of the team
Jones-Garcia could easily boost the 2nd team scoring, rebounding and defense, so sure he could help the spurs.
I Really do hope they sign him to a basic 2 year 2 way deal but with 2 spots left it could go either way I just think the spurs don't wanna have a lot of Dark skinned dudes on the team in my opinion. but DJG Literally showed his worth if they don't sign him some team will get Bucket getter.
Knicks should pick him up
