Suns Buyout Bradley Beal, Signs With Clippers

Suns Buyout Bradley Beal, Signs With Clippers

Okay, so the Bradley Beal buyout has happened. He is going to the Clippers. I think we all kind of expected this one, especially after the Clippers traded Norm Powell, but we needed the official thing. Now, this gets kind of weird because looking at some cap people right now, it seems like it’s not a certainty as of right now if it’s going to be a wave and stretch where they would be paying 19 per year over 5 years. It seems like that’s still the most likely outcome. And admittedly, with the way that Shams is doing the spin job for the Suns right now on his Twitter, saying how they save money right now, that made me immediately believe it’d be a wave and stretch, but I guess it’s not a certainty right now. If it wouldn’t be that, then I think it would just be you’re just paying him for the original two years on slightly less money. I believe if the Suns are going to be paying Bradley Beal like 19 million or whatever it is over the next five seasons, that’s crazy. And I understand, yeah, it gives them immediate salary relief because the number they’re paying him for this season and next season goes down for the sake of the stretch. But like it’s just dead money sitting on your cap for a really long time. But if I’m going to go off of what Shams is saying, which again suggests it is the wave and stretch because the money is going significantly down right now, which means it would get them out of the aprons based on what Shams just tweeted. And therefore it would open up smaller moves for them right now. Cuz when you’re in the aprons, especially the second apron, you pretty much can’t do anything. If any of this CBA stuff is wrong, my bad. And I mean, Phoenix, they’re going to be in a tough spot regardless of who’s on their books over the next whatever seasons. And yeah, Dylan Brooks will bring them some new defensive energy. And maybe Jaylen Green will jump and maybe Malawatch can have a day one impact. Maybe Mark Williams will be healthy and score a whole lot of points and get a lot of rebounds. And we know Book is going to be awesome, but they do not control their own draft pick for a long time. It’s either locked him in protections or for some years they just don’t have one. So I mean we get it. The whole relationship soured and he didn’t want to get traded. They clearly wanted to deal him. He had the no trade clause and pretty much he just wasn’t the right other guy with KD and Book. They needed more defense, passing, rebounding, all that and just more good players. And so for Suns fans, I mean given your pick situation, just the state of the team, the West, it’s really not looking too good, man. Sure, they can put five real NBA players on the court to start game one of next season, but well, that’s it. Let’s go to the Clippers. For all of the negative energy around Bradley Beal for the last couple of seasons, especially this last one, and I’ve seen a lot of takes of Bradley Beal’s a bad player and all this, he was a very efficient like 17 points a game guy this previous year. Yeah, there’s a fear of him missing games. He’s missed a good amount in his career, but the dude can play with the ball, can play without the ball, he can attack off the catch. You can put him in kind of any offball set you want to. And for the Clippers, this really is would you rather have Norm Powell or Bradley Beal and John Collins? And Bradley Beal on a much cheaper deal than what the Suns were paying him. So, okay. I mean, how does Beiel fit in with the Clippers? I think it’s pretty simple. He’s a shot maker who can step into an infrastructure that’s a really good defensive team. Assuming that Brooke holds up, that means the bench is still going to be good defensively as Zoo is going to be awesome protecting the basket. Derrick Jones, we got Chris Dunn, we got Kawhai, we got Jeff Van Gundy’s defensive schemes, and we saw even last season, I mean, Harden and Powell together, they were still a really good defensive team. Now, I will say lineups wise, going from one guy that you have to plan around defensively with Powell to now two guys with Beal and Collins. Not to say they’re like horrible, but still, they’re not defensive players. They’ll have to work that out. Even so, Zoo was so good on defense this past season. You’re probably going to be fine no matter how you arrange the lineups, but still something to think about. The other thing too, we’re still going to do another season of Ken Kawawaii be healthy. It was great to see him in the playoffs this past year, but we’re going to do it again. He played like 30 something games this past year. You combine that with the fear of Beal missing games. We’ll just see how well this goes. Harden is still able to be such a stabilizing pick and roll creator in the regular season that it just gives you this floor offensively and his chemistry with Zoo is really good. Even so, I would not want to ask Harden at this age like, “Hey, can you have another season where you just have to grind us through all these months until you get more help on offense?” So, we’ll see just how many games Kawhai and Beiel play. And also, yeah, he gets another pick and roll partner with Collins. You got Bogdonovich for a little more offensive juice as well. And then when we think about the playoffs, the real question for the Clippers will be I mean, I’m jumping the gun pretty hard here. We got a whole regular season to go. But I’m remembering in the playoffs where the Nuggets were just telling Chris Dunn, go ahead. And again, there is a balancing act here because what Chris Dunn does defensively, Beal cannot do. If you can find ways to still be that defense and you find more minutes for a guy like Beal rather than a guy like Chris Dunn, even if it’s like for a stretch in the fourth quarter, we just we really need some more offense right now. For as negatively as you may think about Bradley Beal, especially if you’re a Suns fan because of how it’s gone, he’s still just a different threat than Chris Dunn or Derrick Jones would be on that. But again, it it could also be possible for the Clippers that if you take one too many defensive players off the floor, suddenly for as great as Zoo is, we need a little more perimeter defense. And besides Kawawaii, okay, whatever. Like they’ll figure out the lineup stuff or maybe they won’t. I don’t know, but they’ll have to try that. Basically, they got some more talent in the door and they got it for very cheap. So that’s cool. Do I now project them like way higher in the West? I mean to me like I think the Thunder and the Nuggets are firmly the top two teams and then I think you’re looking at the Rockets. The Wolves have to always be in this sphere of like we can beat anybody except for the Thunder. Like the Thunder beat them so bad in that conference series. I don’t think the Wolves as they presently are can beat the Thunder. We’ll talk about the West in a future video. The Lakers are good and if Aiden really pops, you know, that puts him in a different convo. The West is loaded, man. I’m kind of jumping the gun in a video that I want to do probably after this one. Spurs are ready to make a jump anyway. I’m just kind of blabbering at this point. I’ll say the Warriors, too.

cool stuff bro

  1. They should do a 16seed playoff bracket the west is too stacked weak east teams get in just cause they are in the east 🤦🏾‍♂️

  2. With the addition of John Collins and Brooke Lopez we just got a lot bigger and plus Kawhi Leonard doesn’t have to play the four now he can play the three

  3. Beal fits better with the Clippers, especially with Harden. For 10mil this is a low risk high reward type of deal.

  4. Its crazy to waive and stretch a guy, but also their owner gets to save like 200 million in taxes just this year when they do it. So stupid sure, but that's how the Isbiha process has been the entire time

  5. People need to remember that cutting Beal gives Suns a lot more flexibility that they didnt have before thanks to NBA rules.

  6. Hi, AFunkyDiabetic! Not sure if you saw, but Shams reported that Damian Lillard is returning to the Blazers on a 3-year, $42 million dollar contract! You should make a video about that!

  7. The Clippers are going to set the record for the most games missed by starters all-time. Kawhi and Beal are going to play 40 games and miss the playoffs, as usual.

  8. Veteran All-Star joining Kawhi & co.? Clippers taking it to the next level. This might be the move that changes the whole Western Conference!

  9. Steve Ballmer copying the Knicks' strategy from 2 decades ago of signing every aging star in the league and expect them to make it work.
