🚨Celtics SIGN A Player + MORE Offseason Moves Coming? Boston Celtics News

Well, would you look at this? We have some real Celtics news to discuss on today’s show as Brad Stevens is making some moves. The Celtics, they went out and signed a player after the conclusion of the 2025 summer league circuit. And are more offseason moves coming as a Celtics insider has hinted at a couple big trades potentially down the pipeline this summer. Yeah, before the season. We’ll talk about it in just a moment. Make sure you are subscribed to the channel because this is why you subscribe. The Celtics went out there and made a signing. So, I said, “All right, well, let’s get to work then. Let’s go make a video for the fine folks over at Celtics today. 53,000 die hard seas fans are locked in and subscribed with us for free informative Celtics content every single day. So, go join those 53K and hit that big red sub button right now. It’s 100% free.” All right, let’s do it. The Celtics, my guy Keith Smith, shout out to him for breaking this news. He said Hayden Gray has a contract with the Boston Celtics on an exhibit 10 deal according to a league source. And he said Gray will get a bonus if he stays with the main Celtics for 60 days after training camp. And Gray’s deal can be converted to a two-way deal as well. We’ll get to the meat and potatoes of this stuff and what the exhibit 10 really means in just a little bit. But let’s just talk about Hayden Gray as a player to start. He’s played for the San Die UC San Diego Tritons each of the past two seasons. 22 years old, was undrafted in this past 2025 draft, but he helped lead the Tritons to their first NCAA tournament appearance in school history. They were it was the first year that they were eligible in 2025 and he was like the literally the second best player on the team. Shot 42% from three and he led all of college basketball in steals per game. Only appeared in one summer league game for the Celtics after joining them this July. But this is a tenacious basketball player, somebody who wants it more than you. And the counting numbers last year were pretty solid for the most part. And this is a player who back in 2023 24 was not really as efficient of a three-point shooter as the figures that you see on your screen right now. Shot four and a half attempts last year and had a 42% clip. That is lights out and was a huge reason why UCSD was basically one of the best teams in the country for a large part of the season. They were like top 30 in Ken Pom for like the entire college basketball year. They were legit and they ran into a really good Michigan team. took him down to the wire. Hayden Gray was a big part of that huge run by them. And then you see him come join the Celtic summer league team and only got to appear in one game. Played 20 minutes, played 20 minutes in their finale game against the Atlanta Hawks. And honestly, the numbers that you see on screen aren’t crazy or anything like that. But hey, three for four from the field. Shot good efficient highle shots or you know high efficiency shots. Had two dimes as well and only took 30 seconds for him to get a a steal off of a pass. Like this guy is hunts passing lanes. He is a tenacious on the ball, has great defensive IQs off of the ball as well. Had three stops in that game, two steals and a block. So, this is a player who’s going to make his money on the defensive end and and just, you know, probably see real NBA minutes in his career because of the effort level that he’s going to put in on both ends of the floor. Here’s what he had to say about his game as a whole. He said, “I’m a I’m pretty good at anticipation, reading the ball handlers eyes, knowing where they want to go with it. I take pride in defense and a lot of teams are really focusing on creating more possessions and I think I can do that by causing turnovers and also just being a floor general handling the ball and settling and seeing setting the table for everyone else. And Gray had also mentioned this all came in a interview with Noah Dozel over at Celtics Blog. Shout out to Noah. She does great work. And he she said that Gray has been studying a lot of Alex Caruso in his game. Studying guys like Derek White and Kase Wallace. a lot of players who at least in the start of their NBA careers. Now we know that guy a guy like Derek White is a a bonafide all-star level player but like the Caruso the case Wallace those are guys who do the dirty work and you saw you know Wallace reap the rewards of that by getting starts in the NBA finals because of what he was able to do just being a connector and a glue guy on both ends of the floor. This is what Gray seems like he’s trying to pursue at this point. for a guy who’s not a crazy athlete or doesn’t jump off the page in terms of raw accounting statistics or athletic profile, that’s what you’re going to have to do in order to make your money in the NBA. So, I’m glad that these are the players he’s kind of taking after here. Hopefully, you know, down the line, maybe he becomes one of those undrafted guys like an Alex Caruso that uh, you know, makes a big time impact in his NBA career. From my view, like this is kind of where I I I see signings like this for Boston. like they’re not going for a total specialist like a you know elite rim protector or like a you know a true point guard or like a just a knockdown jump shooter. Like this is a player who yes Hayden Gray does bring along high effic high efficiency jump shooting from outside but this is a like complimentary piece that we’re trying to bring in here and you know rise through the ranks of the developmental cycle for the Boston Celtics. going to start with the main Celtics and who knows maybe down the line he ends up wearing Boston Celtics green but he’s going to start from the bottom and and I think that’s something that he’s kind of looking for and he’s hungry to go out there and do Brad Stevens is done going out and trying to get you know elite shot creators or elite bucket getters for the Celtics team. They have those guys already. Pritchard Simons Tatum Brown like they have those guys on the roster already. Now, his job is to go out there and find complimentary pieces that help this Celtics team just get closer and closer to being a contender once again in this league. And I’m not saying Hayden Gray is going to do that right away or even, you know, the next couple of years or so. But you never know down the line, he could absolutely be a contributor because of the effort level and the complimentary nature of his game. Matt Reynolds, a Celtic summer league coach, had this to say about Hayden Gray, and he said, “He’s just a guy who’s got a nose for the ball. He had a transition block, downhill drive, kick out, finish. He’s just a crafty player. But the big thing is he’s a very smart player, very savvy, and he’s attacking the basketball on defense. And I think he’s going to have an impact wherever he plays. And I hope the Celtics can kind of keep him in their system for a good bit here. And it seems to be like a trend of players that the Celtics are bringing in at this point. Kind of like to my last point, they’re bringing in complimentary guys. Ugo Gonzalez, like a just an uber effort level player, going to be a connector on offense, like a Max Schog, he’s a jack of all trades type of guy that they tried to bring in uh in the second round of the draft. Demari Williams, a multiaceted center. Not only does he rebound and rim protect, but he’s also one of the most gifted passers in the draft as well. So, they’re trying to bring these complimentary pieces, these connecting pieces in. And Hayden Gray is only one more of those guys. And no matter how small the signing is for the Boston Celtics, you know, we’re going to cover it here on the channel. You know, we’re going to grade it as well. So, get down to the comments section for me based on what I’ve told you so far or maybe some things that you know if you watch some Triton hoops last college basketball season. Grade it for me down in the comment section. A, B, C, D, or F. I’m trying to hear what the Green Teams have to say. All right. I probably would give it a I give it a B. I’ll give it a solid B there. Um I don’t really know why I would give it give it a B, but I I think it’s I think it’s a solid player, and he’s he’s a hungry guy who just wants to get better and and wants to keep progressing in his basketball career at the next level. Now, will he ever see the floor for the Boston Celtics? I’ve kind of been alluding to it throughout the video already, but it’s not all likely that he’s going to see the floor, not only this year, but maybe even down the line as well. The exhibit 10 deal if you guys want to get into it is it’s essentially a try out deal. He’s going to come to training camp. He’s going to participate in all the practices leading up to the start of the regular season and the Celtics are going to cut down their roster down to 14 15 guys. Um right now you can take up to 21 players up to your training camp roster. So Hayden Gray will be filling one of the 21 spots and then you know we could see where things go after that. Like how well he produces in training camp will determine what happens next for him. In all likelihood, it will be that the Celtics end up waving him and he’ll go back to the main Celtics. Thereafter, he will be, you know, kind of on a time a time clock there because in an exhibit 10 deal, you can offer a bonus that if you stay with your team, the main Celtics, for 60 days after signing the deal, then or after training camp, excuse me, then you will be entitled to that bonus. If you don’t, then you will not be getting that bonus, which can be, I believe, around $75,000. Now, after that, the deal can be converted to a two-way contract like we’re seeing with a couple of guys that the Celtics drafted in the second round where they will hop back and forth between the the main Celtics and then the main Boston Celtics roster, back and forth between the G and the NBA. And then even after that, if he’s exceeding all expectations and exceeds all expectations in the two-way role, that two-way deal can be converted to a standard contract. This is a long climb ahead for Hayden Gray here, but I think he’s up for the challenge. Now, it’s going to be a really big challenge because the Seltics don’t have two-way contracts available as it stands right now. Miles Norris is still occupying one of those slots. And then, like I said, the two second round picks that Boston took in this year’s draft are wildly expected to be taking those other two-way slots for Boston. So, an uphill climb for Hayden Gray. Maybe if he just absolutely balls out in training camp, then he can maybe steal one of these two-way slots away, but only time will tell. We’ll keep you guys updated on that. coming up next though are more offseason moves coming for your Boston Celtics. Celtics insider has hinted that yeah, trades could be coming and yeah, before the start of this NBA season. We’ll talk about it in just a moment. But first, I got to tell you guys about this awesome deal that we have on the program today. A 2024 Celtics Championship shirt. A Celtics insider says that more moves are on the way in the form of potentially trades following the Celtics signing Hayden Gray to an Exhibit 10 contract. Chris Forsber of NBC Sports Boston had this to say about Brad Stevens most recent comments. He said, “I think Brad was pretty honest when he said that when he met with us last week and said that they didn’t want to sacrifice draft assets just to move off money, but I do think as you get into the season, some of those conversations will change and teams needs will change around the league and maybe that will open up opportunities. I would be very surprised though if the roster that we see here on July 17th is the same one that we see on October 17th when the team tips off this this this next season. That’s crazy cuz like I to be honest with you guys was not expecting many more moves for the rest of this offseason. Like you went out and you cleared up a bunch of money. You minimized your repeater tax penalties for this season. Now to be fair, they’re still going to be paying $88 million in uh potential tax penalties, but you’ve cleaned up your books a little bit. is not the nine figures that it was previously and I wasn’t expecting many more moves like they bring in Anthony Simons like they bring in Luca Garza and Josh May not and they trade for George Ni Yang like it kind of seemed like they were all done here and a lot of teams around the NBA especially as well are done because they’re you know ironing out their rosters teams are getting set here we’re in the middle of July free agency is dried up and most teams around the league already have their crews for next season as far as the Celtics crew for next season it’s not great and maybe I should have been expecting more moves Considering what you see on your screen right now looks pretty atrocious. Uh Nemius Kada pegged to be the starting center for your Boston Celtics next season. I don’t know how wise of a decision that will be. George Niang plays negative defense and we’re going to put him at the power forward spot. I don’t really love that either. Would honestly be more open to Sam Hower starting at that four spot then potentially George Nyang. At least we have stuff invested into Hower long term. Uh and then you know Pritchard White Brown Simons. Outside of that it is pretty bleak. The front court is absolutely atrocious. So maybe this week could see the Celtics potentially address the glaring knee that they have down low. Now they are still over the second apron by a little bit less than $1 million at this point. So there are some minor deals around the edges that they could just get under the second apron. But Forsberg had said that that’s not what he thinks is going to happen. He thinks that bigger swings are coming beyond just, you know, cutting a guy like JD Davidson or, you know, Jordan Walsh and getting under that second apron by just a couple hundred,000. No. Forsber says that more big moves are coming and that comes after we hear the rumors continue to swirl around Anthony Simons and George Niang and how Boston is not necessarily married to those two guys heading into next season after they just traded for him back in June. So like it it’s all up in the air right now. Brad’s talked highly about Simons and Nang and said that they can both contribute. Uh, I think we all know deep down if the right deal comes along, he will not hesitate to go out there and trade them away to, you know, clear up some more money and hopefully not have to attach much draft capital. We know that’s been his stance the whole time. You tell me though down in the comments section before we get out of here on today’s show. Will the Celtics make another trade before the season? Cuz they will probably make another couple exhibit 10 signings and training camp deals and all that good stuff. So, not signings, not moves, trade. Will the Celtics make another trade before the start of the season? You let me know in the comments section. And make sure you are subscribed to the channel, youtube.com/selties TV.
