MAJOR Ben Simmons Update via ESPN | New York Knicks Rumors

Is Ben Simmons about to put pen to paper to join the New York Knicks? We’re going to break that down on today’s show. But first, I want to open up the comment section for all the real ones watching today’s video. Do you want Ben Simmons on the Knicks? Type Y for yes and for no. [Music] Welcome in to New York Knicks now by chat sports. I am your host, Marshall Green. Appreciate everybody for stopping by as we’re here to react to what Brian Winhorse had to say about the Knicks as he has listed this team as a finalist in the Ben Simmons sweep stakes. It doesn’t even feel right saying Ben Simmons sweep stakes. But here we are and the Knicks have been linked to Simmons since really day one of NBA free agency. We all got the notification and you guys did because you’re all subscribed and I know we talked about on the channel the Knicks were linked to Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul and Ben Simmons early on in free agency and it really hasn’t stopped at this port at this point. Winhorse said this, I’m told Simmons is probably going to make a choice in the next week. Kings, Suns, Knicks, and the Celtics have all been connected to him. And I think Ben Simmons has to ask himself, what do I want in my next team? Do I want to compete and maybe not play all that much? Do I want to be on a champion? Do I want to play on a bad team and play a lot and try to rehab my value? Because the Celtics would be a great opportunity and the Kings for him to do that. But if you’re trying to win and maybe not have a clear role, the Knicks could be that. And the Suns, um, who knows what’s going on in Phoenix. I’ll say this, I’ve said it a hundred times. Ben Simmons, in my opinion, is a great value for the Knicks at the Vetman. It’s the Vetmin. You cannot pay a player less than that. And the price of a player kind of changes the expectations for that guy. Do I want Ben Simmons on a $10 million deal? No. But do I want him for $2.5 million, be the 14th player on the next roster? That could provide some upside. Yeah, I would. I think it could make some sense. We know who the core players are for the New York Knicks on this team. It’s Brunson, it’s Bridges, it’s Hart, it’s Anobi, it’s Towns, it’s Hart and it’s Robinson. I think I said everyone. That’s seven. And you got Deuce McBride as well. And you went on you added Clarkson and you went out and added Gershon Yabiselli. The thing I’m a little bit worried about is if you are planning to sign Simmons, how are you selling him on joining this team? Like Winhorse, Mark Stein also reported the Knicks Celtics Kings and Sun. So, it sounds like those four teams are the official finalists for Ben Simmons. Things could change though and we could see him sign elsewhere. Ben Simmons is not who he was supposed to be coming into the NBA as a number one overall pick. And I would probably say he’s one of the biggest busts of all time and he hasn’t played all that much basketball over the last couple of years. But this past season, 51 games played. Started the season on the Brooklyn Nets. eventually got traded or bought out and signed by the Los Angeles Clippers. Five points, five assists. He could defend, he could finish around the rim when he decides to dunk it and he could rebound the basketball pretty well. If you want to get out in transition and for him to run, he could do that as well. He checks a couple of different boxes that I think the New York Knicks lack. I go back to the Eastern Conference Finals all the time against the Indiana Pacers. And maybe you don’t want Ben Simmons playing in the Eastern Conference Finals. I get that. But the need for a secondary ball handler that can beat a press and deliver on time, ontarget passes to other players on this team can make a lot of sense. He would give you another playmaker on this roster. I think he could play alongside Jaylen Brunson. And I want to see Brunson play off the ball a little bit more. Since Brunson has joined the Knicks, he has been one of the best catch and shoot players in the NBA. He plays off the catch so well. He’s also a versatile defender. He can legitimately guard all five positions on the court. There’s clips of him guarding Joic last year. He can guard some centers. He’s 610. He’s got good size lineup versatility as well. He could play next to Carl Anthony Towns. You could play a little small ball five with him. And if you want to go that double big lineup, but instead of having Mitchell Robinson who could r can’t really do anything on the offensive end except offensive rebounds and finishing putbacks, you could add a guy like Ben Simmons. gives you lineup versatility, versatile defender, and some athleticism. One thing I feel like the New York Knicks are lacking is team speed, team athleticism. They didn’t really like to get on the break under Tom Tibido. When they did, they were effective. But having another guy that can grab the rebound, go 90 ft, and lay it up, and then throw a nice skip pass into the corner, I think it helped this team. I just don’t really know what the role would be. Like I guess the question is why do you want to be a New York Knick? We saw Marcus Smart be someone the Knicks were really interested in only able to offer the vet men, but he passed up on signing with this team because there was no clear role for him. Like Marcus Smart wasn’t going to be a starter here. He might be one for the Los Angeles Lakers. And when you take a look at the Knicks roster, the starters of Brunson, Bridges, OG, and Towns are set in stone. And you got Robinson and McBride and Hart. Those guys are all going to play a lot of minutes. We’re already up to eight people. Gershon Yabiscelli was given $5 million. They’re going to play him a lot. Hopefully Pomeier can get five to eight minutes per game. You have a third string center in Ariel Huckport if you need him. So you have a backup power forward in Yabiselli. You have Huck Py as that third big. You could play Robinson as a starter or have him come off the bench. Josh Hart plays the three and the four. Clarkson’s going to play the two. McBride plays the one and the two. I just don’t necessarily know where he would get minutes at. Would he be the backup point guard? Are we going to fully dive into Deuce McBride being an undersized wing? We’ve only said that on this channel for three years now. He’s not a point guard. He’s built like one, but he doesn’t have the skill set of that. If you can convince him to come play here, sure. because I do think he could help this team a little bit and there’s some lineups that would intrigue me. I would love to see a Carl Anthony Towns, Ben Simmons, OG Male Bridges and Brunson lineup. You got your two scorers in Brunson and Towns and you got three extremely versatile defenders around him. Got a seven-footer, a 610 guy and OG can go back to playing the wing. You could score it. Multiple ball handlers, multiple players on defense that guard multiple positions. Not a lineup I would play 25 minutes per game, but shoot, I don’t mind Ben Simmons playing six, seven, eight minutes per game with this lineup. The fact is he can get more playing time elsewhere. If the Boston Celtics, a team that’s tanking because the New York Knicks beat them in the playoffs, he wants to go play there, up his value. I totally understand that as well. It’s not the end of the world if you don’t sign Ben Simmons. There are other players out there, but I don’t think the 14th player the Knicks are going to sign this year is going to make that much of a difference for them in the long term. And if they do, that would mean some pretty unfortunate things would have had to have happened for that to happen. I know this though, if Ben Simmons joins the Knicks, we are going to make a video because if the Knicks make a move, you make a video. Are the Knicks the second best team in the NBA? That’s what the Athletic thinks. They recently released, and by recently I mean today, released their power rankings for the upcoming season, and they had the Knicks at number two. They previously had them at number three, and they are in the tier of legit NBA contenders. They wrote this about the Knicks. It’s all about new coach Mike Brown and how he may reimagine what is largely the same team that went to the Eastern Conference Finals. Jordan Clarkson should be an upgrade over campaign while Gershan Yabiselli should be an upgrade over Preachua. The offense could be even better though the question of how well this team can defend with Jaylen Brunson and Carlanthony Towns will persist. New York should still add a couple more players especially in the front court on the wing. Well, I I got bad news for the Athletic. They got one roster spot and they got one veteran a minimum. So, there’s not really any players they’re going to be able to add. Here was the top five for the power rankings via the athletics. The Oklahoma City Thunder at number one. They’re the reigning champs. Makes all the sense in the world. The New York Knicks are number two. You’ve seen a lot of people have the Cavaliers above the New York Knicks in their power rankings. The Athletic, I give you some props. Knicks are a better team than the Cavs. I guess we’ll just have to beat them in the playoffs again to prove that. The T-Wolves at number four and the Denver Nuggets at number five. I would actually flip five and four. And I would actually put number five over the Cleveland Cavaliers. I would have the Nuggets as the third team in my power rankings. I like what they did in the offseason a lot as I also like what the Houston Rockets did. And I would have the Rockets above the Timberwolves and the Cleveland Cavaliers. I think that team is put together extremely well. The addition of Kevin Durant is exactly what they needed. They did not have a go-to score in the playoffs and KD is a bucket. You see a lot of Western Conference teams though in the top 15. It’s because the Eastern Conference is wide open. And when you have the Indiana Pacers as the 15th best team in the NBA and they don’t have their best player and they also lost Miles Turner, that kind of shows you where this Eastern Conference stacks up. The team I would probably say is the most underrated on this list is the Atlanta Hawks. If they can stay healthy, if Jaylen Johnson could be available for 82 games next year, this team’s going to be a lot better than a lot of people think. I’ll say this about the Knicks. Anything short of an NBA Finals appearance this year would be disappointing. It would be upsetting. You don’t fire Tom Tibido, a coach that got you to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years to not get there again. And if you do get there, you got to win at this point. The East is open. You never know what it could look like next year. Boston’s going to be back. The Pacers are going to be back. The Young Orlando Magic are going to get better and better. I’m not saying you got to win the NBA finals. I would really like for that to happen, but you got to get to the finals this year. Keep on getting better and better and better and we’ll see where the chips fall on the big stage.
