Why Did the Mavs Shut Down Cooper Flagg?
Wait, the Mavericks just shut down Cooper Flag after only two summer league games. And no, it’s not because of injury. It’s because he might be that good already. In his debut, Flag struggled just 10 points on five for 21 shooting. But even then, he had steals, blocks, and showed flashes of elite defense. Then came game two, and he exploded for 31 points, four boards, and looked like the best player on the floor. Dallas didn’t need to see more. No injury, just pure strategy. They’re protecting their number one pick, their future star. He played nearly 63 minutes across both games, took on point guard duties, and even said himself, “I’m exhausted.” So now the Mavs are done watching. And the rest of the league watching closely. Was Cooper Flags shutdown a smart move, or are they hiding just how special he really is? Drop your take in the comments.

Cuz if he got hurt. The fans would storm with guns π
I could score 31 the way these nba defenders give up the baseline so easy.
Hes not the best player why are they hyping him up.sheesh they always looking for a great white hope.Hes average at best
more time to see other players. really simple. they saw enough.
They was afraid CF would ended up like Zion
They are maintaining his health for the playoffs and possibly the finals, he can become similar to Larry Bird.
Dude said he is the best in the league lmao. Whatever he's smoking……. I don't want any part of it.
He is injured u know
Load management they already knew he's special so they shutdown him for a while.
Yes bc he is that good you don't want to run em down
Bro is exhausted after 2 summer league games?? That's not a good sign π¬π¬
To risk his chance from injury
Cant wait for Luka to make him his newborn.
The staff saw all they needed to see. He's ready. I'm excited and can't wait for the season to start.
This has been always the case for to top rookies playing in summer league. No real issue here.
Luka even don't play summer league before but plays like an 10 yrs on NBA.
Donβt get me wrong I think itβs smart they are shutting him down to prevent injury but is practice gonna be just as good at getting better with as doing practice and actual games?
He should have never been in summer league. They knew he was a great player. That's why he went #1 duh
Looks like Ben Simmons 2.0
No outside shooting.
WE LOVE COOPER WE LOVE COOPER WE LOVE COOPER
Cooper Flagg has been attacked since junior high school. He's faced each challenge at each level. While at Duke, there were multiple players with above average talent, making it easy for e. ach player to shine. The team was unselfish, granted they came up one game short of the Championship. All of the starting lineup was drafted in the NBA. Looking for each player to improve at the next level. GODEVILZ.
Smart move
Smart move
The staff know what they're doing they're just preparing him physically
The truth is Cooper Flagg played more than the league minutes than all of 2025 rookie games. The coaching staff saw how much they overplayed their elite players. If elite players play that many minutes in games, there is a chance for injuries to occur.
The greatest since Larry Bird!! He'll quiet all doubters.
Yup AD INJURED, KYRIE INJURED AND COOPER INJURED? πππ WHO WILL STOP DALLAS? INJURY πππ
