76ers Get MORE GOOD NEWS From LA Clippers + Sixers Rumors On VJ Edgecombe, Offseason Grade

Welcome in to 76ers now and a loaded show we got on deck for you guys here today. First Sixers getting some more great news in this offseason. This time from the Los Angeles Clippers. What will VJ Edgecom’s role be early on in his rookie season? Plus Bleach Report handing out their offseason grades for every NBA team. What do they give Philadelphia? here. We’ll dive into all of that. But before we do begin, I want to know when did you all become Sixers fans? I know there can be a wide range out here on YouTube. Me, I became a Sixers fan right around I was 9 years old back in 2010. I know, I know I’m young. You can tell me in the comments section right now. But also, let me know what year you became a Sixers fan down below. So, let’s get started with this great news from the Los Angeles Clippers that could really help this Sixers team out. Not this season, but looking a few years down the road. So, how do the Clippers help out the Sixers here at the end of July in this NBA offseason? Well, the Clippers actually made a couple of pretty big signings over the last couple of days. Starting with Bradley Beal, who was of course bought out by the Phoenix Suns. really not a good run there for him in Phoenix, but I like him coming over to the Clippers. I think he can add a lot to this team. So, first they added Bradley Beal and then the Clippers also add Chris Paul, of course, bringing CP3 back to LA after he’d been bounced around the league a little bit since he left a little while ago. So, two good additions for the Clippers for this season. And I think both players will make an impact. But that’s two veteran players. The Clippers are adding to what was already an older roster. And you take a look now at what their lineup and their rotation looks like heading into this season for the 2025 2026 season alone. I like what the Clippers are doing. Wright Harden, Bradley Beiel, Kawhi Leonard, they brought in John Collins, Zubot, and their bench looking really good as well. Chris Paul and Kriston can both play back a minutes. They still have Bogdanovic, Dererick Jones, Nick Batum, Brook Lopez, and they drafted a guy we talked about here on the show and Yanni Kona Neerhouser, the center out of Penn State. So, it’s looking like a really good roster for this year with some of these additions. But you take a look at some of those names on there, right? Harden, Kawaii, the two signings they just made, which is the point of today’s show in Bradley Beal and Chris Paul. That’s an aging roster that’s really relying on a lot of players that in a few years, who knows what that team is going to look like. We already had these thoughts about the Clippers with a Kawhi Leonard, James Harden led team that in a few years were unsure of what their future might be because they also don’t own any of their draft picks. But now they’re also bringing in Bradley Beal, Chris Paul. They’re clearly placing a focus on this season and maybe next season as well to try to win a title and maximize its window with Harden and Kawawaii. after that, what could the Clippers look like in a few years? And why is this relevant to the Sixers? And why would this be good news for Philadelphia? Well, if you’re not familiar and you’re not caught up with the Sixers draft pick situation, it’s not the greatest when you kind of look at it on paper without diving too deep. Their first round pick this year, top four protected, probably going to go to Oklahoma City. Then next year, also top four protected. Same with 2028. They’re own 2028 first, top eight protected, but they’re all connected. If one conveys and this happens on the other, so they’re not going to get all those picks. But what do you see in 2028 and in 2029? In 2028, the Sixers had the Clippers unprotected first round pick. And in 2029, they have rights to swap picks with the Clippers. Look, those could potentially be top three, top five, at the very least even lottery picks come those years because again, the Clippers are so reliant now on James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, bringing in Bradley Beal, Chris Paul, these older players. Look, if it was 2016, that team would be absolutely disgusting, right? And they still will probably be good this season. But 3 years from now, four years from now, I don’t imagine any of those guys are maybe not going to be on the team, but at the very least not playing at the same level they are right now. So that could be huge for the Sixers because Paul George’s contract runs through the 2028 season. Joel Embiid’s contract runs through the 2029 season. If things do go ary and over the next few years they maintain, you know, still being injured and the Sixers cannot bounce back, those picks could be huge. If the Sixers team does need to enter a full-on rebuild and they don’t really have control over their own picks, they can potentially get a couple of top five picks from the Clippers in back-to back year. So, make sure you keep an eye on that Clippers team, especially as we head into the next couple of seasons. But look, I know they’re LA. Hey, they’re always going to make moves to stay in it, but man, they really are looking like an older veteran team that’s going all in on this next couple of years. Could benefit the Sixers down the road. Let’s get to some talk on VJ Edgecom. Only played two games in the summer league. The Sixers third overall pick in this last year’s draft. And a lot of people are wondering what his role could be for this upcoming season because he did look very good in the two games he played. But again, only played those two games, dealt with a thumb injury which turned into a wrist injury. The Sixers are pretty loaded at the guard spot, especially once they bring back Quinton Grimes. So what is his role? Will he start? Will they come off the bench? What can we expect out of VJ Edgecom? Well, Bleacher Report put together what they think every top rookiey’s role is going to be for this upcoming NBA season. And here’s what they had to say. thinking that BJ Edgecom probably going to come up the bench. A healthy Jared McCain should start with Tyrese Maxi as it stands right now. Quinton Grimes returning presumably forces VJ Edgecom into a bench roll. I imagine Jared McCain will also come off the bench, but it’s neither here nor there. The rookie would give the starting lineup a spark of explosiveness that it currently lacks. But in all likelihood, Edgecomb will back up Quinton Grimes and Paul George. Operate as a second unit scorer who’ll provide speed, rim pressure, shotmaking, unselfish ball moving, and defensive activity. I tend to agree here with Bleacher Report that VJ Edgecom will come off the bench probably won’t play as big of a role as some people would like to see starting the season. And I know with especially that first summer league game in the Salt Lake City summer league, what he showed that athleticism, the scoring ability, taking it off the dribble, creating his own shots, showed more playmaking than we initially thought he had. And of course the defense as well, a lot of Sixers fans want to see him in the starting lineup and I understand that. But assuming Quinton Grimes is back, which I know we’re still waiting for that to become official, but it will happen. It makes the most sense to let V. Jedcom come off the bench, be that spark, right? Because yeah, you have Jired McCain coming off the knee injury, but with that athleticism, that one-two punch in that back court coming off the bench with McCain Edgecomb could be disgusting. And the end of the day, I know he’s a third overall pick. He’s still a rookie, has a ways to go, especially in the offensive side of the ball with his jump shot. No reason to force him in there in the starting lineup for a team trying to win now. Let him come off the bench. Let him be that bench scorer, that bench energizer, and then look, if he plays extremely well throughout the first few months of the season, you can have some more conversations. But I think that makes a lot of sense for his starting role. Some more from BJ from Bleacher Report. Edgeo made just two summer league appearances as I mentioned. One in Salt Lake City, the other in Vegas. Separated by 10 days while he recovered from that thumb injury. Combined 60-ish minutes of court time, not allowed to go on, but the 19-year-old impressed with flashes of a more dynamic skill set than someone only along for the ride. Curiosity should peak after watching the relative ease with which he got to his spots in the half court. Even after faking in with his left hand, including an open space, he had a poise about him in the lane that could wear out defenses. When he turned on the Jets, it was more like a calm and collected burst. And the passing instincts pretty dope for someone not packaged as a playmaker. Shouldn’t get nearly this much time on the ball with the grown-up Sixers, but it’s good to know his creative depth is worth exploration if the opportunity or need does present himself. did do a lot of ball handling duties in the summer league as the six summer league coach and the coaching staff said he would do which look he’s just not going to have the same opportunities once we get into the regular season but I am encouraged by what I saw had more on ball skills than even I anticipated because he didn’t do a lot of that at Baylor either wasn’t really asked to but with that athleticism with the defense whatever role he ends up playing is going to make an impact with that role and I wouldn’t be surprised if as the season moves on He does kind of force this Sixers team to have to play him more minutes and leads to him maybe not starting but at least playing a significant role maybe even closing games certain games and certain matchups down the stretch but of course a lot of good is some bad as well to discuss with BJ Edgecom concern creeps when viewing his performances through the lens of how he’ll probably play in Philly two of 12 clip from three is unnerving edge never had a groove whether it was off the dribble or on the catch attacking closeouts will get harder if he remains so tossy turvy with the left hand. And if defenses don’t feel the need to guard him all that closely from distance. While he reached his spots, the touch from mid-range and the bucket was inconsistent. Better spacing in the regular season could go a long way for him. If it doesn’t, Edgecom can still turn the dial up running the floor and on the defensive end. Again, it’s two games, right? So, the good, the bad, can’t overreact too much, especially playing on a summer league roster with a lot of guys that are really just trying to get their own and prove that they belong in the NBA. Not as much of a team environment really. Even though everyone says they want to win the summer league championship, everyone also wants to get a job in the NBA, right? So, they’re going to try to show what they can do. So, not trying to judge too hard and of course, we’ll see what happens. The the three-point shot was a concern coming out. Didn’t look great in summer league, but again, just a couple of games. So hopefully that does come along because he will be asked to do that a lot playing around Joel Embiid, Paul George, and the rest. I’m just I’m just excited to uh get to see BJ Edgecom play once the season does begin. A player that I think is going to make a big impact even in his rookie year for Philadelphia. You be the coach. Pretend you are Nick Nurse. You’re the one making the rotations for this Sixers team. What would you do with BJO? Should he start? Should he come off the bench? Give me an S for start or a B for bench. Sound off. what you think down below the comment section. Feel free to leave me a reasoning down there as well. Let’s embrace debate. So, got through the first two topics of today’s show, that great news for the Sixers from the Clippers and what VJ Edgecom’s role could be early on with Philadelphia. We’re going to end off going through Bleacher Report’s offseason grade for the Sixers. It’s chatsports.com/76ers. Zip. I’ll have that link clickable in the comments and description of today’s show. So, let’s get right into it. Bleacher Report gave the Sixers a Cgrade on their free agency and their off season combined, which sounds honestly a little bit low to me given what the Sixers had to work with. But let’s get into why Bleach Report gave the Sixers this C grade. We’ll do our best to focus on the marginal moves of the Sixers off season, even if the real determinance of the team’s fate are their incumbent stars. Number three pick VJ Edgecom joins an elite back court. They could get a little crowded once restricted free agent Quinton Grimes signs a new deal inserting himself into a positional group that also includes Tyres Maxi and Jared McCain. If one of Edgecom or Grimes can credibly guard small forwards, I think both can. The long jam at guard might not be such a big deal. Gerson Yabaselli’s exit stings, but the Sixers landed one of the better two-way big men and Dominic Barlo and executed a heist by also getting combo forward Jabari Walker on another two-way deal. Both could feature prominently in the rotation if Embiid Apollo George missed more time. The latter is already off to a rough start on the health front, having undergone arthroscopic surgery to repair an offseason injury to his left knee. Based off what they said and their reasoning for giving the Sixers a Crade, it sounds to me like they should have given the Sixers a little bit of a higher grade. Now, I think you have to take it into consideration. Sixers didn’t have a lot of flexibility and I’ve said I like the moves the Sixers made on the margins because that’s really all they could do at this point is make those moves on the margins. But I think they did a great job getting some decent players in there in Dominic Barlo in Jabari Walker. Even if I don’t like the bringing back someone like a Kyle Lowry or Eric Gordon maybe that drops it a little bit. I’d probably give the Sixers a B to a B minus. I think anything above that is just too much because they didn’t make any flashy moves. But you got to factor in the VJ Edgecom pick as well. It’s an offseason grade as a whole. So I think a little bit low there from Bleacher Report. The Sixers did what they could. Now look, is it enough to overcome being so reliant on Joel Embiid and Paula George? I’ve talked about this before. It’s not. It’s the unfortunate reality and situation with this organization. But again, I think with what Daryl my was able to do with this team, the the money he had to work with, which is basically nothing, as long as they bring back Quinton Grimes, it’d be an F. They can’t bring back Grimes at this point. As long as they bring back Quinton Grimes, I think it’s a B free agency for me for Philadelphia. Think what they did was good enough. Now, can the Stars stay healthy at the end of the day? That’s really all that matters with this team at the moment. What say you though? Do you agree with Bleacher Report? Do you disagree? What would you grade this Sixers off seasonason? ABCDF? Let me know in the comments section. Thank you so much for tuning in to today’s show.
