Lakers Trade Update on Dalton Knecht + Lakers STILL Active on Trade Market? | Knecht Value Update!
[Music] You know, the Lakers have completely changed up their team at this point, making new additions of Marcus Smart, Jake Larabia, DeAndre Aton, and even adding a few new two-way contract players. But many Laker fans still want them to do more. Whether that’s a salary dump with Gabe Vincent and Maxi Kleba then to fill that final spot in their team or whether it be a trade and a bigger trade that might involve Dalton connect or maybe Rui Aimura. Many are not happy yet and still want more to be done. And while the big topic with that does happen to be about Dalton connect following him falling out of the rotation late last season, not playing during the late regular season nor during the postseason, then not playing very well during summer league. Many fans want him gone and are not happy with him though. Is that really the right move for them to take? Is it good to trade him at his lowest trade value? Which is kind of confirmed from a new report from Yoan Buha. Him saying that Dolphin Connect’s trade value took a massive hit after summer league with teams around the league no longer viewing him as a first on draft pick. Kind of relating to his trade value. At one time, it was said to be around a good first on draft pick, then turning into a late first on draft pick. Now it’s not even paying a first on draft pick trade value. So again, is it the right time to trade him? Should they simply move on from him and not wait for him to maybe rebound and get back to where he was at one point? Should they trade him even at a low trade value and simply be done with it? We’ll talk about that and maybe about the moves the Lakers should make with Dalton Connect or if they should make a trade during the offseason yet. And well, to begin, I think a lot of the trade talk and about Dalton Connect is because the Lakers have not made a trade yet. And not only that, but they haven’t given up a trade asset. I mean, it’s pretty impressive that they found a way to add DeAndre Aiden, Marcus Smart, Jake Larabia, and really changing up their entire team without giving up a single trade asset. I mean, prior to free agency, they had one tradable first round draft pick, four future first round draft pick swaps, one tradable second round draft pick, the contracts of Rui Hatimra, Gabe Vincent, Maxi Clea, and the young talent I guess per se, of Austin Reeves and Dalton Connect. And now three weeks after free agency, they still have every single one of those trade assets. So in that regard, they definitely could make a trade if they want to. Whether you’re talking about Dalton Connect and or the expiring contracts of Gabe Vincent, Cleba, Rui, Himura, they could do that and it’s not completely off the table here. I mean, there are even reports saying that they have been monitoring the trade market yet. Brett Seagull of Clutch Points just put out a report that said they have been active on the trade market prior to signing Marcus Smart even contacting the Timberwolves about Dante Danchenzo contacting the Memphis Grizzlies about former Laker Contavius Caldwell Pope. So maybe that’s not going to be the same after they signed Marcus Smart but up until literally this past week they have been active in the trade market and I think they still might be going forward too. Now I will say it’s definitely a lot less likely they make a trade following the addition of Marcus Smart kind of filling that back court defender role which was kind of a big priority for them monitoring the free agent market and the trade market to try to address it. Luca Donic even making that a priority for their team to address. So maybe they feel a bit more comfortable after addressing it though again I wouldn’t completely rule it out here. and talking more about Dalton Connect, you know, coming off a bad summer league performance now his future is kind of in doubt by many Laker fans, saying that he’s hit his ceiling, that even Bronny James is better than him at this point, that he’s not their best young trade asset, and that he won’t be a rotation player for them next season, so they may as well trade him. But again, going back to the report about his trade value, and literally what we can point to with him, is it a good time to trade him at a lower trade value? You can argue if it’s his lowest trade value or not. I really don’t care that much about that. But I think we can all agree that his trade value is not very high right now. Again, coming off a poor summer league performance, not playing much at all during the late regular season, not really playing during the postseason, not even about the numbers in summer league, but more so about the lack of improvement, the lack of commitment at times, especially on defense. Teams are definitely going to point to that and say, “Hey, he’s not showing improvement. He’s now 24, eventually going on 25 here. And he’s simply not worth what he was drafted at, that being a mid to late first round on draft pick. So, we’re not going to give that up for him. And if we are talking about a Jaylen Hoodino, for example, who really didn’t show anything off during his rookie year, didn’t have any really good moments and nothing to point to, then I would probably agree with you. At that point, it might be time to cut bait rather than wait for him to maybe show something and maybe show some more potential. But that’s not the case here and connect. I mean, I know he tend to have short-term memory loss with the NBA, but he did show quite a bit during his rookie season. Yes, he didn’t quite look the same after being traded and that trade then being reverted. Talking about the Mark Williams trait here. You know, he obviously was affected by it both mentally and that translating to its encore performance, not really feeling like a big part of the team after that point probably, which was only further combined by his lack of playing time and kind of falling out of the rotation. But prior to the trade deadline, he was even a part of their starting lineup. For a 16 game stretch, Daltton Connect was a part of their starting lineup. I know we tend to forget that. And in that time frame, he played incredibly well. Leading all rookies in that time in points per game with nearly 17 per game on some very efficient shooting, too. 46.1% for the field and a very impressive 39.5% from three while attempting eight of them per game and making a team high 3.1 per game in that time frame. So yeah, he definitely did show something. Not simply looking at a 2 or three game sample here. We’re looking at roughly 1/5if of the NBA season. So unlike an unproven second-year player that really didn’t play much during the rookie year, their entire future based more on potential rather than actual production, that’s not the case through Adult and Connect. The guy actually played in quite a bit for their team at one point. Again, even being a part of their starting lineup, being one of their most productive players in their entire rotation in that time frame. He literally showed off production that he might be able to get back to if put in the right role and if he’s in the right mindset, too. So, if we’re talking about trading a guy that’s now not looked at that way anymore, looked at to be a kind of a shell of his former self, which is only about a one-year time frame to look at, I’m not sure it’s the best time to trade him, you know. Not only that, but I think he does have more potential to get to here yet. Unfortunately, he didn’t show that and remind us of it during summer league, but I think Dolton connects a guy that actually plays better with actual playmakers around him. He’s not an isolation guy that actually benefits from getting the ball more or getting more on ball creation time. He’s a guy that benefits from playing with guys like LeBron James, Luca Donuch, and them drawing attention away from him. That’s what do connects best. Not being an onball creator or playmaker for teammates. Yes, he can do a little bit of that, but is much better at playing off the ball and benefiting from the attraction that other players draw away from him. That’s what he does best. Three-point shooting, movement shooting, back door cutting. again benefiting from the defense forgetting about him. That’s what connect does best and that’s the role that he should be filling. However, I do understand the argument that he’s kind of fallen to the back end of the rotation. I mean, following the addition of Marcus Smart and Jakeia, I have Daltton Connect kind of behind both of them. Probably also behind Gabe Vincent, although you can definitely argue that one with my depth chart or simply roster here. You know, nothing’s ever really definitive and you can move the pieces around how you want. But at the shooting guard spot, I got either Gabe Vincent or Marcus Smart. You know, reverse him either way you want. And Dolphin Connect’s not a point guard, so not a pathway for playing time there. Then at the backup small forward, I got Jake Lavia. You know, even if you wanted to go really extreme and put him to the backup power forward spot, I got Jared Vanderbilt there. So kind of in that third category of the rotation, maybe being a 9th to 11th man at best. So I guess you can make your argument to trade him based on that. the fact that he probably won’t play very much their team. Therefore, that might limit his upside and ability to improve his trade value. Maybe try to trade him right now rather than it lowering even further. I get it. But if you ask me, I’d still take a chance on him and try to rebound his trade value. Again, we know he can be if you put him in the right role and if he’s in the right mindset. So maybe try to work with him and play more in certain matchups, opponents that he’s better suited to take advantage of and that don’t have really good screen navigators to try and follow him around the court. Teams that won’t really focus on too much, then try to get his confidence back in those games. And maybe that might translate to getting the old Daltton Connect back. The pre-trade deadline Delt Connect, the guy that can go off for 20 to 30 points on any given night in pretty much in any given two quarters. maybe try to get that player back and then rethink about trading him if it comes down to them needing something different on their team. I think eventually they’ll have to get a true proven 3 and wing option. You know, maybe rebound Dalton connects trade value until that point then put him in that kind of trade or maybe think about it. You know, even maybe keep him at that point and trade somebody else. But maybe think more about the long term here rather than the short term. Again, I know we have short-term memory loss in the NBA. only remember a player’s last game and what they’d hit in the past month, if even that. But if we try to look at the big picture here with Dolan Connect, everything from what he already showed us prior to the trade deadline, what we know he can be if he’s comfortable and in the right role in their team, the fact that he does have untapped potential yet, and you really can’t argue against that. Yes, even though he’s 24 and is an older player for a secondear player, he does have untapped potential yet. And I think he might be able to attain it with them working better with him, getting him back in a comfortable headsp space and finding the right way to use him and trying to take better advantage of him, too. But with all of that being said, what do you guys think? How do you feel about the report about Dalton Connect’s updated trade value? The fact that it’s no longer even a draft pick, and would you instead look to keep him because of that, or would you simply cut bait and try to trade him regardless of that trade value? Let me know your thoughts and what you would do with Dolan Connect in the comments down below. But I think that’ll pretty much do it for this one. And if you enjoyed the video, then I’ll greatly appreciate it if you dropped a like, subscribe to the channel if you have not already, and hit that notification bell to never miss out when I upload a video. They should get more 3nD forwards
KNECT is great playing with High level PG.
Knecht lost his confidence
Whether you like him or not, if he’s truly got negative value in the trade market, the lakers would need to give something up to get rid of him. At this point it’s just better to let his contract run out IF you don’t want him around
I'm still with DK. If he can improve on his defense he wont need to rely solely on scoring to get minutes. Its disheartening cause hes in a no win situation. If he plays well, the Lakers have more leverage and incentive to trade him. If he plays poorly people are talking about him just being cut.
Trade dk and gabe for wiggins. Trade klebler and whatever salary you need plus your swaps for another upgrade. Open a minimum for thomas bryant. We win the chip. The end.
Keep Dalton.
Again It's not going to happen bro Robert Pelinka rather to see hachimura get cooked on defense and wanted to see Gabriella vincent on the court doing cardio no more trades or signing going to happen this will be our roster in the postseason
We should keep DK ❤ funny how we was so happy to have him he has a bad summer league and we wanna get rid of him smh 🤦
to be fair.. they traded him.. screwed up his head and now he can't get back in form..
surprise surprise
Trust me Knecht doesn’t get traded. He is what they wanted, a young 3 and D capable player. He is athletic and once he learns the defensive system he will be good. Lakeshow most likely reassured him he wont be traded
I think what they need is a big 4 that could stretch the floor and play defense so that LBJ can play 3 . A rui trade for that one wouls be worth it.
LA goes into training camp with 14 and the 2 two ways play decent need to make a trade rob doesn’t someone gets hurt robs is fumbling trying to find a trade probably sign a two way go on a two week stinker and then finally get healthy and a trade sign vet min get to the 4-5 seed my season prediction
Reeves needs to be traded before Knecht. His contract is due soon, might as well get something before he’s gone. Highly doubt they’ll re sign him when they have to pay Luka. Same thing goes for Rui.
Trade AR. Relying on AR for offense is fools gold… that means they also have to rely on him on defense.. would rather have a 6-8 pt scorer and a lockdown defender rather than a 20-point scorer with no defense… The guy disappeared in the playoffs when met with physicality against wolves. He lost 2 games for the Lakers in that series due to his late game defense…
Hear me out.
Dalton Knecht + Maxi Kleber for Matisse Thybulle. With the open spot we sign Al Horford with the BAE and thats it!!!
All Laker fans aren’t made the same. There’s different types. Keep Dalton. Trade the vets. When treated like a priority, you’ve seen what he can do. The sophomore slump is a thing.
Trade Luka
I don't think Dalton wants to play for the Lakers after that failed trade. I think it really effected him
Once they trade LeBron for a couple good wings, they can contend. Thank you for your many years of service LBJ
If dk being average defender he sure can fill starting 5
Why didn’t the lakers draft yves missi we literally had no center lol
DK fits better in a Solid Team Concept. Not a chaotic summer league circus. Just my opinion. But you’re correct , he should’ve done better overall.
Crazy thinking this KID is a shell of himself. He needs good leadership. He could be (is) special! Keep him!!
I like Knecht. Maybe he loafed Summer league because he didn’t really want to show off with a bunch of scrubs
no we just need one more white guy for a starting kkk lineup
Why you people think just because he played well in the regular season that he legit. Obviously he enjoyed plenty of space to shoot the ball in regular season because of LBJ, Luka and Reaves dribble drives to the rim He was getting looks in the summer league but he was making them count mainly b/c in summer league he didn't get any space. The summer league players are fighting for their basketball lives during the summer league so nothing is free. Plus, guys in the NBA regular season don't be playing tenacious defense like that in early part of the regular season. He is spot up shooter with practically limited creativity to his game and nothing more. Only thing he can do at this level is shoot open threes and on occasion when defense are rotating off of their best players to recover to a shooter he can attack that way. There is also this factor too during the regular he often times found himself wide open for threes because of the attention LBJ, Luka and Reaves draws leaving him as an after thought when trying to stop the lakers. He is not fast enough to create in this league when the defensive intensity rackets up even a little which why he struggled at the end of the season on into the playoffs and even more doing this summer league. DK4 has terrible defensive disposition and positioning which left him unplayable during the playoffs. His defense is on par with a Cole slider caliber TBH. He basically struggled in the Summer league b/c there was emphasis placed on heavy pressuring of man especially on ball handlers and making it extremely uncomfortable to offensive players and for the most part that is what happened and since DK4 cannot create his own shot against aggressive and up in your space, jersey making it extremely uncomfortable and he is not quick off the bounce nor does he have assortment moves to get the defense off him which often times he was kicking out to Bronny or Stewart to initiate and create driving lanes to manufacture scoring opportunities. DK4 become frustrated by his own lack of effort and it affected him mentally. His confidence is gone to the point he might not recover. What he did last year was gift because of his teammates. He even has some drives but that was because of late close outs rotating from LBJ, Luka or Reaves dribble drives. I hate to tell you this but DK4 is cooked.
That 5-Game Playoff Series against the Minnesota T-Wolves exposed the Lakers lack of a veteran 2-Guard that can use a Flare Screen for catch & shoot.
unfortunately, the people who tend to be the loudest about what a team should do are the people that have no long-term vision. they wanna build an All-Star team right now and then when the team is incapable of making moves later, the complain about that too.
They don’t wanna give the new players a chance to show what they can do. They don’t want the young players to grow into their abilities. they don’t want the team to be planning for what happens when LeBron is gone.
Teambuilding is a complicated process, especially if the goal is for ball short and long-term success with flexibility for contingencies
Talk to me when the Clips win a chip 😶
Dalton should have gotten burn in the G-League instead of sitting on the pine almost the whole season. I still think there's something there, but his confidence is shot.
Having your name mentioned in every trade rumors imagiable can't help either, I bet dk confidence is shot
They need adebayo
I keep DK unless it’s packaged to land HJones, Annoby, MBridges, TMurphy. If not DK will be a rotational spark off the bench, MSmart/Vando /Thiero/Laravia can get great looks while DK motions around screens for catch and shoot looks. These other bench players defensively can hide some of DK ineffectiveness defensively.
Now that I think of it we had 2 real different and good young 2 guards .. Max and Dalton .. max I really wish we could have kept and if at time we would have threw Reeves in the trade we would be great could have had a lineup of Luka Max Rui Who can easily switch .. LeBron and Ayton .. bench would have been Smart Dalton Laravia Vanderbilt and Hayes .. would have been solid but we can’t win em all I guess
dalton wont bounce back unless its on another team. lakers need to finish what they started…
DK deliberately played anemic so he will not be traded!
Message to lakers: DO NOT TRADE AWAY YOUR FUTURE DRAFT ASSETS. Successful teams like the Spurs, OKC, Pacers, Pistons, Rockets, Twolves, Nuggets and Magic (Yes, now magic can be included). Once all sucked, but they steadily grew into good teams just by acquiring talent through the draft. It's the proven formula. Warriors did it and got Klay, Curry and Draymond. When they got good they weren't able to get any more draft assets. Don't underestimate the value of youth and grooming your rookies into future stars. Stop trading away your draft assets.
That was probably Knecht's plan all along not to let the Lakers dangle him as trade bait in the summer. He was like, I will give you one good game and you can kiss my ass.
With Vando & Smart not really being the best shooters, the Lakers will need Knecht and someone to hit open 3's. At this point the Lakers need to give him some peace of mind and commit to at least next year so he can get in the gym and get his confidence up.
This dude may intentionally play his trade value down so that he can't be traded
I wish I was overreacting, but in your Sophmore season, age 24, Dalton should’ve been shut down for being too good for SL.
Instead he looked like doesn’t belong amongst G Leaguers and Rookies. And yall give Bronny a hard time? 😅
We don’t have time to develop 24 year olds with a long way to go. Rob was right to trade him when he tried, but he should have him out of here as soon as the season was done.
Just wait and be patient with DK !we will need his three 3️⃣ point shooting ! He is a baller and a real good athlete ! He will be fine with the lakers 🎉
lol market is very poor for Knecht
