did you come become aware of it and is it a continuation of what you guys dealt with against the Clippers or is it something entirely new uh I found out this morning i’m not a doctor i have seen Outbreak uh but he is definitely sick and uh questionable up until the tip so we’ve talked about before anybody asks who will start in his place there’s a lot of ways we could go um so good options but obviously hoping Jamal plays coach we know Joic plays a beautiful game he makes the right pass is there a temptation in a case like this an elimination game to ask him to be more selfish in terms of either drawing a foul getting him into the line just say “I know guys are open because of the spacing but I’d rather you shoot.” I mean he was 17 to 25 uh had a very efficient fourth quarter guys missed wide open shots good shots uh I also think saying get fouled isn’t really a good message because you actually have to get fouled they have to blow the whistle uh they’re not calling a lot of fouls so posting him up you think he gets to the line but they’re going to triple team him when we post him up uh so we’re trying to get him in space as best we can but yes you I mean to your point I hope he’s aggressive you know in a game like this but I thought he was uh in game five i mean that’s pretty efficient five of seven from three like I said 17 to 25 so uh if we get 40 plus 15 plus five plus again I think we have a good chance of winning you wouldn’t look at that fourth quarter I’m sure from and you said you didn’t shoot much and only Jamal’s layup late and Joker scored what did you see going back to the film offensively that you weren’t able to achieve yeah I mean sometimes it comes down to just shotmaking uh I thought the only regret I had was not taking Jamal out to start the fourth quarter because I watched the fourth quarter and I don’t see a very tired Nicole Joic i see a guy scored 13 points demanded double teams and triple teams uh but my regret would be I had the four timeouts take Jamal out give him a two-minute rest get him back with that first timeout but I actually thought our possessions I would say for the first nine minutes were pretty good and I give Lou Dor credit you know it was Shay late but Lou is the one who kept them in that game and and you know when they did miss shots if you go back and watch it we had transition breakouts uh missed a layup missed a wideopen corner three with guys that you want to have the ball in their hand uh I thought like we talked about Nola was aggressive to score until the point where he couldn’t and made the right play to other people and you know I just think as the game wore on their physicality up the floor I thought our pick and roll started way too high and yeah we are flat flatly spaced to give those guys room to go but uh the screening kind of took a tick down um and I thought their screening took a tick up on the other end uh so offensively we just got to own our spots better uh but I will live with the majority of the shots that I saw in the fourth quarter i trust those guys uh there’s a reason why we’re in game six of the West Conference semi-finals because other guys have made big shots throughout this playoff run so uh have to keep trusting uh but if I have to you know we’ll put the ball in different parts of the court to hopefully maybe attack the rotations better for Nola when you guys are generating the clean looks that you want and they’re just not going in what what is your process of kind of trying to help the guys mentally reset for a game like this over from the last two games really yeah i think the game four and the game five the interesting part was we didn’t shoot the ball well but if you’re not going to shoot it well then everything else has to have this extreme to use the word again uptick your defensive rebounding our defense rebound was great in game five uh even playing zone as much as we did it’s hard to rebound against that team uh but I thought what really showed we took a step back of getting through screens late and again has nothing to do with making shots but my point is if you’re not going to make shots then be better in other areas you can still win a game when you don’t shoot the ball well i mean we had every chance to win game four had control of game five uh their role players made shots got them back in the game uh you know and obviously Shay went to work at the end there uh but yeah I don’t think it’s a thing where it’s you talk about it you’re just proud of the fact that they’re trying to do the right thing for each other but that leads to wide openen shots i’m not going to complain about it i’m not going to command Jamal and Nola to take awful shots to just prove that they shot the ball a lot in the fourth quarter that makes absolutely no sense so we will do what we do uh we share the ball that’s what we’ve done all season long historic assist team uh if the shots go in those assist totals are at 30 not at 20 we know that we’re going to trust it coach Michael Porter Jr obviously been struggling to score how far into the game as a coach do you know when a player doesn’t have it for that night and that maybe you need to to see about utilizing someone else for him michael’s one of the best shooters in the world uh he’s one of the guys are actually not leaving uh and I trust Mike to have a good night tonight uh he’s our one of our starters you know like I said I I I can only trust the whatever many years I’d watch Michael Porter shoot the ball uh so if I’m doubting him one night and then trusting him the next night uh that’s my issue not Michael’s so did Michael play great no uh can Michael play great i think we’ve seen it in the playoffs and when he does play at a level we know he can play at we are really hard to beat uh so I have no regrets playing Michael late i thought the look he got to tie it was a great look they double down the post up and that’s a guy that for his career has shot the hell out of the ball especially above the break and in one corner so it’s like you have to you have to trust your players in these moments i’m pretty sure Mark would say that Lou Dort went two for 10 and L’s nowhere near the shooter that Michael Porter is but he still trusted Lou in the next game and what do you know so you got to trust the guys that got you here and Michael’s one of those guys david happy birthday thanks did you tell your players to not get you anything other than a win no birthdays are man i don’t know i got I got a calendar and a clock that tells me how old I am i don’t I for the Denver Nuggets obviously a must-win here for Denver the Nuggets got to win the next two to advance to face the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals nuggets are in the all whites tonight and the Oklahoma City Thunder are in the light blues it’ll be Joic against Chad Homegrren at the midcourt [Applause] circle will Denver have enough gas in the fourth quarter they could have won the last two but just ran out of steam of course we knew that was going to be an issue not only all year long but all postseason long tap is controlled by the Denver Nuggets aaron Gordon has it the Nuggets move right to left gordon has it up the left sideline guarded by Homegrren top of the key to Christian Brown back over to Gordon gordon has it at the point right side over to Jamal about game five and game four you know game four their role players make threes game five Dort makes threes uh tonight we had a guy step up uh make some shots and then our main people were so complimentary um and obviously in the fourth quarter to win that quarter after what’s happened the last two games uh says a lot about our guys and the fact that they can bounce back from anything uh and I keep saying that uh so I don’t know we just keep finding a way we’ll go play another game seven coach um another game where you have an eight-point lead going into the fourth quarter and this time and you talked pregame about getting time to rest Jamal and you did rest Joic as opposed to last game can you just take us through the thought process of why you sort of changed things up and how that worked for you well it’s going to be one or the other like I said last game I I kind of kicked myself for not taking one of them out uh and Nicole seemed body language wise like he wanted to sit for a second uh the beautiful thing was I had four timeouts again i know it didn’t work out last game but that does let you control your substitutions and those guys held water you know to start that quarter uh so this was an incredible team win uh small thing I know Michael’s been struggling mike made a two early threes it kind of loosens up the floor a little bit it allows you to play in space much easier for Jamal and Nola and then obviously Julian in the second half so you had two guys make impactful threes where you’re allowed to play the way we want to play offensively and outside of the end where we turned it over I thought we took care of it pretty well throughout what did you see from your guys backs against the wall facing elimination two heartbreaking losses to be able to come out and get a pretty dominant win today and force a game seven same thing I always see uh yeah I mean those losses were tough but I mean it was 3-2 the series is still here i’ve said this I know it’s cliche but every game is its own chapter it’s its own thing it’s its own entity and different people are going to step up just like for them they’ve had people step up in game four and five uh and tonight we had that team that did it and now you put yourself in a situation where hey let’s go see what happens on Sunday and I know I got a group of guys in there that have been in a lot of game sevens seen a lot of things uh so we’re excited for the opportunity coach over here u resiliency is a word that’s often thrown out about this team over and over and over again just where are you seeing that in between games just in terms of their approach in terms of their willingness to pick each other up kind of between games yeah hyperfocused um hyper honest with one another and I think more importantly uh hyper honest with themselves and I think if you are that way uh you can bounce back from things very quickly uh people that find excuses and point all over the room usually lose and fail uh and this group is not that way they uh they’re tough- minded uh they know they can be better each game uh as an individual or as a teammate and that’s who we’ve been for a long time and what that means for Sunday doesn’t mean you’re going to win or lose I don’t know but I do know this they’ll be mentally prepared because they’ll spend tomorrow thinking about how they can be better schematically we’ll talk Saturday and we will throw this thing man we will be ready to roll on Sunday i’m very excited for the opportunity because of the people I’m about to do it with couple things but that’s Jamal Murray it’s It’s almost like the the worse it is the better off it’s going to be and uh what a tough- minded tough- minded man now I can say that i mean this guy’s a dad and shows up finds a way to play and gives us 258 and seven in a elimination game coach uh we heard all year i mean you mentioned it 72 win team going into this round and we know how good they are yeah and they’re supposed to be deeper and all this it’s still going seven how have we gotten here with you guys with your you know trying to f find your legs and everything how are we getting to a game set i think just for us just like the Clipper series it’s just all about trying to be in the game uh late this was one this was different because we had I guess you could say control of it in the fourth quarter which has not been the case uh throughout the playoffs it’s been about us staying close enough and then for our main people to close it out uh you know I don’t I don’t have an answer for that other than I only think about my own team and the challenge of playing great teams it’s just being consistent mentally and again I I’ve said this throughout the series what they did this year is incredible that’s done it all year long a group in there that’s hung a banner uh you know I I would tune into this game uh two things uh first a point of detail when did Jamal give you the thumbs up got you yeah and second how good do you feel going into game seven with Joker on your side yeah Jamal was right before the game i had a better feeling the closer we got to the team meeting which was at 32 you know he could just see in his face a little more color like he was kind of coming around and you know how this is like if these guys even a slim chance why not try it uh my worry more so was once I knew he was going to play is how long was he going to play and he played 42 minutes so he obviously was ready to roll and game seven you know Nicole is such a special player you’re right having him on your side is so important but beyond that the group you know and I’m going to keep saying it’s not just the wins we’ve had the big wins in the past it’s the losses and you know going into this what it feels like and if they jump out on us early that we can still sustain and if we jump out on them early it doesn’t mean anything it’s a long game
