THIS Lakers Trade Report has them Creating a NIGHTMARE Defensive Duo.. | But Why it’s NOT Worth it!

[Music] Well, even after making multiple different moves in the past few days now, signing Marcus Smart, waving Jordan Goodwin, waving Jake Milton, waving Trey Gson, resigning Christian Koko, and signing Chris Man into a two-way contract, the Lakers still might not be done yet. According to new reports, they have been active on the trade market and might be going after a 3 and proven reliable backcourt option to pair with Marcus Smart. That player being Drew Holiday, a guy that was recently traded to the Portland Trailblazers, obviously coming from the Boston Celtics, I guess getting retraded back to Portland, which he was traded to and then traded to Boston a couple of years ago. And the Lakers apparently might have interest. This coming from Grant Ath of the Fast Break Journal being a Dallas Maverick supporter. So, it is a little bit weird here, but other reports confirm that the Lakers and Blazers may have been talking. Brett Seagull linked them earlier last week. Other reports saying that they have had trade talks and that there is a good relationship between Rob Plinka and Portland general manager Joe Cronin. So, whether or not this turns out to be true or not, there is some reports linking it and there is something backing it up here. So, with that in mind here, is Drew Holiday a good trade target for their team? Is he a realistic trade target for their team? and would he be worth the price tag for him or the potential price tag for him? We’ll talk about that and try to break it all down here. And well, to begin, I think we all know about Drew Holiday. obviously one of the best backcourt defenders of the past decade now if not even a bit longer than that having a 15-year NBA career at this point now being 35 years old and although is still very productive does have a pretty big contract that comes with that age under contract until the 202728 NBA season being paid roughly 32 million per year up until that point the final year of that contract being owed 37.2 2 million. So definitely a pretty hefty for an aging guard who again is still very productive coming off a season of averaging 11 points per game, four rebounds per game, four assists per game, over one steal per game, still being a top five perimeter defender in the entire NBA, at least top 10 have the bare minimum, shooting roughly 44% from the field, 35.3% from three, being a 37% career three-point shooter. still a very good two-way 3D option, whatever you want to call it. Though again, the price that would come with him might be up for debate here. And if we’re talking about making a trade for him and with the Lakers trade assets, it might include something like Rui Chimra, Gabe Vincent, and Maxi Clea to make the money work. Though even that I might be a bit questionable about trading Hachimura to get him. You know, I’d probably rather do a trade package like Gabe Vincent, Maxi Cleba. Unfortunately, Jared Vanderbilt as I’d like him, but if they can get rid of the contract that is kind of a negative contract, you know, I don’t like to trade a player at their absolute lowest trade value. But if we’re trading for a guy like Drew Holiday that has a pretty big contract of his own here, albeit would be a pretty good fit for their team, then I might look to trade Jared Vanderbilt, especially swapping a defensive minded player for a defense-minded player rather than trading Rui Himmer. So, that’s kind of what I would look to trade here. Vanderbilt, Vincent, Cleba at the absolute most. That would be my trade package offer for Drew Holiday. Again, I like him. I like the fit that he would offer. Pairing both him and Marcus Smart in the same back court would definitely be a pretty fun defensive duo. Whether you’re talking in this starting lineup or not, I don’t think that would really be happening for their team. I think Smart will be coming off the bench and be coming off behind Austin Reeves and Luca Donuch. But maybe if you’re talking about Drew Holiday, then it might be different. compared to Smart is a much better three-point shooter. Like I said, is a 37% career three-point shooter compared to Smart, who is roughly a 32% one. At that point, maybe they have the conversation about moving Austin Reeves coming off the bench, having Drew Holiday in their starting lineup, then having a lineup of Luca Donic, Drew Holiday, Ruachima, LeBron James, and DeAndre Aton. But obviously that’s neither here nor there at this point. just a conversation piece and what might be if they do that trade, but I’m not sure I would do that trade and I’m not sure Portland would take that trade. I mean, I know we tend to look at these things from an NBA 2K kind of standpoint. Whatever we offer in the trade machine will work and that’s it, right? Not quite. Also got to factor in the other team here and what they might be trying to get through a trade package, what they want for the player in return. And I’m not sure they’d take the trade package of Vanderbilt, Vincent, Kipa, even with a first round draft pick piled in with it. Maybe they would, maybe they wouldn’t. I mean, Drew Holiday doesn’t really fit their timeline at this point with Damen Lillard out this season and them not being quite ready to compete. I’m not sure he’d be the best fit for them. Other reports saying that he doesn’t want to even be there and that he was not happy to be traded back to Portland. But I guess it all comes down to what Portland wants to get from him. doesn’t really matter about what Drew Holiday thinks at this point. He is on their team and they ultimately have to accept the trade package so I can come with him. So with that in mind here and if the Lakers are adamant about trading for him for whatever reason I guess then I would definitely try to expand the trade here getting a bit more creative to address not only a defensive need for their team but maybe a more specific defensive need for their team. that being a defensive-minded wing player that can take on some bigger matchups, which neither really Drew Holiday or Marcus Smart can do. Yes, they’re both terrific and elite defenders at that, but more so point of attack defenders that defend one through three at the most, not really pushing it to bigger wings and not really what they do on defense. Though, that’s not the case for a guy like Matise Stybball. He could do that and that would actually be a direct answer to their last remaining need. that being a 3 and wing that could directly fill that need either off their bench or their starting lineup. And for that kind of trade, I would definitely be willing to offer a different kind of trade package and a bit more trade assets. I’d offer something like Rui Hatimra, Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kibba, or Jared Vanderbilt. Then with Dalton Connect and potentially offering that for both Drew Holiday and Matis Style, you know, at that point, I wouldn’t love to offer the 2031 first one draft pick. I imagine they’d probably try to demand it and try to get it here, but I’d be pretty stingy about it. Already offering Rui Hachimura and Dolan Connect. I think that’s a decent trade package. Definitely would throw in a first round draft pick swap, even two of them, their second round draft pick. But I’d really try to hold out on that 2031 first draft pick as it’s our only tradable first one draft pick. But if you’re talking about making this trade and what it could do for their team, definitely would upgrade their defense in multiple different ways here. point of attack defense obviously with you holiday combining him again with Marcus Smart that would be a very fun thing to watch adding Matis Sty for their wing defense giving them a definitive and de facto primary defensive wing option whether he’s in their starting lineup or not that would probably be their best wing defender if they don’t trade Jared Vanderbilt here and I guess that would kind of be the point of trading Jared Vanderbilt if you’re going to do it then hopefully you’re replacing with a good wing defender and that’s what they would be getting with Matis Cybel also Not the best offensive player in the world, but is an offensive upgrade to Jared Vanderbilt again if they would be trading him here. Matis Styel shooting roughly 35% from three in the past few years now is a decent three-point shooting option that is showing improvement, especially from the corner. Combining that with the defense, being able to defend one through three and even one through four in some matchups, the defensive playmaking ability, averaging roughly three steals per 36 minutes, the deflections that come with him, the actually really disciplined defense even with the defensive playmaking. That would be a very interesting trade package that I personally would be a lot more interested in than simply Drew Holiday. simply to match the contract for due holidays a lot. But then if you factor in Matis Cable with him, then I’d be a bit more open to it and a bit more open to giving up more trade assets. However, trade package aside here, I’m not really sure how much I buy the trade reports about Drew Holiday. Yes, I think he’d be a decent fit, but if the other reports saying that the Lakers are kind of trying to plan for their future and put guys around Luca Donuch that fit his timeline and not really kind of subtract from that with bad contracts in the future, I’m not sure that Drew Holiday would be at the top of their priority list. Kind of like this report makes it seem like he is. Again, I think he might be a good fit for them. I wouldn’t doubt if they have some minor interest in it and might be trying to target him maybe with a different player, but I’m not sure they’re really prioritizing him that much like this support’s kind of making it out to be. You know, again, I think for the right price, I’d do it. And especially if we’re talking about Matis Cable with them, then maybe if the price is right, go ahead and do it. But again, not sure he’s their top priority. I’m not sure he’d be my top priority. There’s definitely other trade targets I’d put above him for both the price that he commands, the age that he’s at, and the timeline that he wouldn’t quite fit with Luca Donuch. I’m not sure I’d put him at the top of my list, and I don’t think the Lakers are either. And believe me, that does hurt to say a bit. I’ve been a big Drew Holiday fan for pretty much his entire NBA career now. Would have loved to have him on the Lakers prior to being traded to Boston. was a big advocate for it back then, but now at 35 and with the kind of bloated contract they under with what it would take to get him and the Lakers limited trade assets that it would take to do it with, I’m not sure I’d be willing to do it or wouldn’t be quite willing to do it compared to a different trade target. But with all of that being said, what do you guys think? How do you feel about this report linking the Lakers to Drew Holiday? Would you make a trade for Drew Holiday? And if you would, what would that trade package look like? Let me know your thoughts in the comments down below. But I think that’ll pretty much do it for this one. 1. How do you feel about the Jrue Holiday rumors? And what package (if any) would you give up for him? Comment down below!

Thanks for watching! Don't forget to drop a like + subscribe for more content 🙂

  2. Houston rockets got Josh Okogie for just 3,1 Mio! I can not understand that the lakers didn’t try to get him

  3. You would look better as a channel if you stop reporting on the impossible moves. Stay realistic. There is no way we go after holiday. Why report on this??

  4. Tbh trade AR and Gabe a pick swam for Jrue and Shadeon sharpe. I want shadeon sharpe because he can become a Younger version of austin reaves.

  5. Lol. That Blazers haven't done a trade with the Lakers since 1980… Ya'll are dreaming.

  6. AR as a sixth man, will lead to the finals. And it'll actually help AR as well. It'll help him get that harden bag. Also, speaking of if harden stayed six man, he would at least have two rings

  7. It's not even possible. Would need to send out 3 players say Rui, Gabe and maxi. Then we sign 2 min contracts to get to 14 players and no room to move.
This would be a bad contract to have also.

  8. Go get kcp instead!!! The magic had to give up an extra 1st to get him off their roster we should swoop in and get him for expiring and Dalton then sign Amir Coffey , plus we are still thin at the Center.

  9. Have you forgotten about Jake? I don't see a pressing need for jru, a back up center or hope maxi fills that role

  10. Actually Smart is not the best point of contact defender he is much better defending up. Smart is better defending 2-3 small ball 4.

  11. Hell nah. If it were 5-10 years ago, sure. The dude is 35 with a huge contract. Just say "no." Jrue "Dead Kennedys" Holiday "In Cambodia" would be a big mistake. Why do Laker fans get dazzled by these old dudes like Melo, etc. Bringing guys in when they are washed only results in Ls and quick playoff exits. I would offer a box of Tiger Balm from Costco and a pallet stacked with Monster energy drinks.

  12. Only person I’d give rui for andrew wiggins and still id rather have rui because I feel he a better scorer rn

  13. well yeah, but lets not overhyped things to early to tell "nightmare defensive duo" blablabla, no way the lakers will trade for him with such a big contract left

  14. 1. Why would the Lakers give assets, instead of getting assets, by taking on 3 years of Holiday’s contract? 2. You can’t do a 2 for 4 deal because the Lakers are hard capped at 1st apron and have to have at least 13 players. The vet min slots they’d have to open are more than the remaining room under the cap to make the deal proposed here. Unless their adding 2 g league guys to main roster. I don’t see it.

  15. I don't think the Lakers should make a move to trade fro Jrue. I like him, but that contract is way too much for an older player.
