NEW LOOK PELICANS vs MAVS – Jordan POOLE – Cooper FLAGG – NBA 2K25
New Orleans opening lineup. And for the Mavericks, Derek Lively is out there with Anthony Davis, then it’s Thompson, then it’s D’Angelo Russell. Grant, looking at these two teams, my attention is drawn to the front court matchup. Oh, yeah. This should be a battle on the baseline. Great to watch skilled bigs trade blows and show off what they can do down low. Here we go. It’ll be the Mavericks off the tip. [Applause] Screen by Lively. And there’s a 3second violation. [Applause] Here’s [Applause] Pool. And there’s a pick to the middle. Oh, and a beautiful feed leads to a monster jam. Pool showing is more comfortable in that pick and roll setting. He can be dangerous. Time now to hear from our reporter Ally Leforce. Well, Jason Kidd had a few moments to share with me. I talked with him about how he’s approaching matching up with Jordan Pool tonight and he said to make sure we don’t lose him on defense. We have to talk and we have to know where he is. Expects his team to be very active and talkative here tonight, guys. And Ally, thanks. And here’s New Orleans now after the basket by Dallas. [Applause] And we’re about a minute into the first. Here’s Williamson. Davis knocks it loose. What an impactful defensive presence. A ad is outstanding at coming up with blocks. Thompson outside. Pass to Russell. the screen fires for three. Gets held in by New Orleans. Pool outside almost two minutes into the first here from downtown. Lively grabs the miss and the defense got away with one there. I mean, that’s the shot he typically makes. And Grant, you look at the players the Pelicans have gone after recently. They have a clear plan. Well, they do, BA. They want to surround Zion with shooters, which of course makes sense. It’s sort of the same kind of blueprint the Bucks laid out with Giannis. If you can shoot, the Pelicans have a spot for you. Williamson finds P. That one’s in coming off a nice dish from Williamson. And just another weapon that Jordan P has in his offensive arsenal. Outside Davis. Pass to Thompson. Clively with a screen on pool down low. Lively inside. Missed it. Now 0 for one on this game. New Orleans has gone one of two from three-point land so far. Williamson against Davis. Now here’s Williamson. He’s closely guarded. Excellent D there from Davis. and he gets a lot of points right there at the rim, but the defense determined not to give up the easy deuce there. Got a hand on it. The Pelicans lead by three to the paint. Two points. That one goes. And another area where pool continues to work has just become a much more effective passer. And Russell’s got the ball here for Dallas. And so Jason Kidd calls for the timeout. He wants to give him a breather and talk things over. All right, Grant. What do you think about Jordan Pool’s nickname, the pool party? Oh, it’s very apt, right? Because when he’s on, everyone is having a good time, but it also speaks to his relaxed attitude. He’s out there to shoot and have fun while doing it. [Applause] [Applause] Pool against Thompson. Pass to Russell. Thompson with a screen for three. D’Angelo Russell. That’s good. So many plays are initiated from the pick and roll for Russell and for very good reason. He’s got as good a feel for that as you could hope for. Williamson with it. Checked by Davis in transition. Here they come. Russell. That’s good. Always fun to look at. Not tremendously efficient, but the floater. Boy, those sure are pretty. Pool against Thompson. The three. They grabbed their own miss. Pass to Williamson. Three-pointer. That’s no good. He’s 0 for four. The Mavericks have gone just three for seven here at the start. Thompson with it. Now here’s Davis. Clock at six from deep and the rebound goes to the Pelicans. P finds Williamson. Excellent D there from Davis. And he just hasn’t been able to get it going this period. No, I haven’t seen him in in comfortable spots or at least spots we’ve seen in this offensive set that are allowing him to settle in. He’s consistent from out there, especially when you give him that kind of room. Past Williamson. Can they get it again? Williamson missing. I saw a green light there, but he’s not going to get away with that kind of laps all that often here tonight. [Music] Three-pointer, no good. Pelicans trail by three. Pool with a ball now. Thompson defending. Thompson against Pool inside and the dunk to finish it off. A beauty. When you can score the ball and the defense makes adjustments your way to do that. Pool has to take advantage like that. New Orleans shooting their first free throw in this game. And the Mavericks making a change here. Washington’s checked in. [Applause] Come on. [Music] [Applause] The Mavericks have gone four of 10 shooting the rock in this first quarter. On the wing, Davis, covered by Williamson. The three from Washington. Williams grabs the board. New Orleans has gone one of four from deep and he dumps it. What a pass to set him up. Making a bit of a statement. Murphy to the rack. The Mavericks trailing. And here is Thompson. Pass to Washington. Davis against Williamson. And so he draws the foul. Headed to the line to shoot a pair. Despite entering his 30s, Anthony Davis is not slowing down. Graham. Yeah. Ba. And last year, AD put up the best rebounding numbers of his career and his shooting percentage also very high. And just watching him, Davis is still an allNBA caliber player capable of taking over on both ends. [Applause] And he makes a first. And so he hits both. Makes it pretty tough on the defense. Who you going to pick to send to the free throw line and he’s hitting the free throws right now. Form looks good. Pass to me. Pool outside. Now Williamson checked by Davis. Just five to shoot with the fadeaway again. The Pelicans good for two. Not just a threat from interior or around the rim. Williamson can also hurt you from the mid-range. Washington outside. Outside Davis to the inside. Here’s Thompson. and he’s going to the line for two. The officials saw contact while he was going up. It’s going to go on Jordan Pool. Klay Thompson is tall for a guard. So, you want to utilize any advantage you have. That time height came into play. And guys, let’s get your take on the scoring breakdown for New Orleans. They’ve done a great job facilitating so far. So, moving the rock and finding the open man. Just great selfless basketball. Getting to the inside is really important, but it’s how close you can get to the basket. It feels like these guys are all around the rim in their attack tonight. And he drops a first. Clay Thompson never seems to get too rattled. A pretty even keel guy. And you can see that even when Klay’s off the floor. [Applause] Both free throws good from Thompson. At this point, you might as well go ahead and chalk up the points when he’s at the free throw line. Pretty much automatic. Pass to Pool. Williamson outside and he’ll draw the foul. He’ll head to the line for two. Zion Williamson seems intent on silencing all the doubters moving forward. Grab. Yeah, BA. He’s not taking any more questions about conditioning. His physicality and play really answer that question now. He has been looking better than ever. [Applause] That’s good from Williamson. Brent, one area where Zion Williamson continues to improve is as a passer. Well, BA, he’s cut down his turnovers while more than doubling his rate of assists. And to me, that’s just familiarity, getting on the court more consistently and not being injured. I mean, he’s going to build and compound on that experience. So starting to make plays is starting to show for Zion. Williamson hits them both. Yeah, the physical abilities of Zion are truly next level. His build, his strength, I mean, it makes him difficult to defend and totally unique. Now here’s Washington. Still no points. It’s intercepted. And let’s swing it over to the sideline and hear from Ally. Hey Brian, the Mavericks are looking to contend. Coach Jason Kidd said, “We’re trying to build a championship team and it’s not easy.” Dallas has not talked about that for a long time. So to talk about that, it’s pretty cool to be able to build. It takes time. We have the personnel. We have the team, Brian. That’s confidence. Yep. And they’re in win now mode. Ally, thank you. Now here’s Russell. Five points in the game. Lively passes to Russell. [Applause] Oh, and he got fouled on his way up. He’ll head to the line to shoot two. Russell plays with such great change of pace and deceiving the defense right there. Got the D out of position. These are his first free throws of the game. Shooting two. That one’s off. Jones. He’s checked in for the Pelicans. And the second free throw is good. The Pelicans lead by four. Pool against Thompson. Pool outside. They set the screen. Shoots over Thompson. And another one falls for New Orleans. And P able to just slip right into his shot. Thompson outside. [Applause] Washington passes to Thompson. Now here’s Washington defended by Jones. Back to Davis. Down to five on the shot clock. [Applause] The three from Russell. He drops it from range. Russell’s got nine. And D’Angelo needs just a little sliver of space to let that rip. Pool for three. And again, it’s New Orleans with a three. And both teams running long range plays that are working well. Both of them looking towards the three-point line. And I like to see that especially when the results are made buckets. Now here’s Russell. Nine points in the game. 14 ft away. Missi grabs the board. Mi’s got four rebounds in the game. Jones against Washington. Here’s P with a shot off that time. Thompson with some nice D. Mavericks trail by six and he lobbs it up to the rim and a slam dunk by Lively. But gliding the pass to where it needed to be. Wow, a strong finish to seal the deal. [Applause] Cool outside. Pass to Mei with the tip. Those interior passes can be dangerous sometimes, but if the timing is good and you executed there, you can get easy hoops. And here’s Washington. Davis with a screen on Jones. Washington passes to Davis. And Davis slams it home. Whenever Anthony Davis is rolling to the rim like he was right there after the screen, you have to get him the ball. He’s going to capitalize most every time. Now here’s P. 11 points in the game. They set the pick. Jones feels it out. Off target from three-point range. And here’s Davis. He’ll bring it up for the Mavs. Trailing by four. They get the rebound. Washington outside. Inside. Here’s Russell. It’s good and he drew contact on the shot. So, he will go to the line. A three-point play opportunity and this will be a second trip to the free throw line. So for Dallas Gaffford, he’s checked in for Lively and Christy subbed in for Klay Thompson. rebound. Got to get it. A minute 22 left in the first quarter. Down low. Stolen by Gaffford. Pass to Washington. That’s good. His first made shot in three attempts. And you like the balance here. Not just falling in love with the three ball. Alvarado outside the three ball. Hawkins can’t get it to go. The Mavericks shooting a solid 50% in the opening quarter. Outside for Davis falls. Nice assist by Russell. Now it’s a four-point Maverick lead. Confident shot from AD committing to taking that jumper. Williamson with a screen on Washington. Pass to Hawkins. Now Williamson to halt the run over the top. Are you kidding me? Wow. Amazing. Yeah. Looks like Zion’s got the stage all to himself there. Just tearing down the rim. 26 seconds left in the first. [Applause] outside Russell. [Applause] 11 seconds left to play in the first quarter. Shot clock at five on the wing. Davis over Williamson off the mark with the outside fadeaway. And so it’s D’Angelo Russell making things happen for the Mavericks. He made a big impact scoring 12 points in the quarter. And don’t go far. We’ll be right back. and getting it going again here in the second quarter. Fairly close game so far. And when you consider how Dallas is doing, guys, your thoughts? Well, they’ve used the fast break well to score easy points and keep the defense unsettled. Yeah, they did a great job. Just the initial thrust of that attack as soon as they got the ball, constantly in transition. All right, Grant, give it to us straight here. What’s the deal with star treatment in the NBA? You think star treatment? What is that, BA? No, I think some players have a reputation which might help them on 50/50 calls. And you could argue that some players have a reputation that hinders them on the 50/50 calls. So, it really just all depends. Washington and Gaffer the combo inside. Then it’s Williams and it’s Christy in at the two spot. That’s the lineup in the game for Dallas. Back to Washington. defended by Jones. Unloads. It’s held in by New Orleans. Can’t blame him. Just trying to take what the defense allows. Williamson outside. Jones fires for three. And again, it’s New Orleans with a three. You want Jones to be assertive like this. If the three-point shots there, you got to take it. And we played just over a minute of basketball in the second quarter. Defended by Jones. Making sure of it with the two hand slam. Ba. Yeah, I don’t blame him. With the score this tight, you cannot take a chance here. Washington against Williamson. And he’s gone for the love. Washington grabs the miss. Looking for the spectacular and coming up empty. Yeah, you can see when it’s that close, players reacting just, oh man, we just missed that one. Maybe they’ll get another chance at it. Here’s Christie. No points yet. And stolen by Jones. And it’s the Pelicans on the break. Two minutes now played in the second quarter. Williamson against Gafford. Five to shoot. Williamson passes to Jones. Here’s Hawkins. Shot is good. Off the back rim and in. Hawkins has got five points. Well, looking into the gaps of the defense there. He’s not going to miss many of those when he gets to that range. Shoots from 14 again. Dallas easy look when the defender isn’t fighting over the screen. Yeah, the coach over there just asking for one simple thing and that’s some effort. Got burned on that one. Pass to Alvarado. Now here’s Looney. Shot from the wing. Williams grabs the board. Yeah, that miss might stick with him for a little while. That’s kind of a shootaround jumper if I’ve ever seen one. to the middle and the powerful one-handed slam. Once he gets to the rim, it’s fairly automatic. Nothing fancy right there. Just takes his two points, moves on. Now, here’s Jones. Let’s go with a three. Christie with a rebound. Dallas has gone four of nine so far from the perimeter. Pass to Washington. Here’s Williams. Here’s Gford and the go-ahehead bucket. No good. And so it’s Jones who brings up the ball for the New Orleans Pelicans. Looney the screen. [Applause] Jones in the post. Another miss. He’s one for four from the field. The Mavericks have gone three of five since the beginning of the second. Williamson against Gafford. Here’s Williams and a foul called on the way up. So he’ll take two from the free throw line. That’s on José Alvarado. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. And that one falls. That puts him up one point in the game. Now Marshall, he’s checked in for the Mavericks. [Applause] [Music] So he makes one of two and the second one misses. New Orleans has gone two of three from beyond the arc so far in the second. And again, no good by New Orleans. He didn’t make them pay for that weak defense, but they just can’t rely on him to miss those kind of shots. Pass to Gaffford. And the bucket counts and he is on his way to the line. He’ll try to make it a three-point play. He’s getting his first free throw attempt of the game here. Lively, he’s checked in for the Mavericks. Anthony Davis comes in for Marshall. What’s up [Applause] Pelicans trail by four. And it’s Willie Green calling the timeout here. He’ll take the opportunity to regroup. They’re just giving away a run right now. The question is, can they stop the time? Hard to say right now. At this point, I’ve seen the coaches run through two or three iterations of defense. Is there a fourth? I’m not sure. [Applause] Washington’s checked in for Gaffford. Here’s [Applause] Hawkins. Five points in the game. a shot to stop the run. Hits the trifecta. He’s got five. Can’t talk enough about the subtleties in that setup right there. The assist really the key to that entire sequence. Davis finds Williams. [Applause] It’s held in by New Orleans. Williamson outside. All sorts of time. Davis for the rebound. Davis has got his sixth rebound on the night. Davis attacking. 11 ft out. Good on the jump shot. Davis has got 11 points. Footwork for the pull up Jay from Davis. That left the defense shaking their heads. Pass to Hawkins. from the high post. Good. Wow. He doesn’t make those kind of plays too often. Sweet move inside. The Mavericks leading. Washington outside. Williams. A screen on Jones. To the paint. Here’s Lively. It’s hauled in by New Orleans. Mei’s got five rebounds in the game. Williamson looking around. Shoots over Davis. And that one hits the back iron. The Mavericks have gotten over 50% of their shots to go. Five for nine in the second. And that’s a foul called on PJ Washington. That’s his first foul. And just a great job of getting there first and absorbing the contact. New Orleans has gotten six of 13 shots to go from outside the ark. [Music] Pass to me. Now P six on the shot clock from downtown. Lively grabs a miss. Lively’s got four rebounds in the game. Well, whenever Jordan Pool is out there, Brent, you expect some highlight reel moments. Well, there’s no doubt that Jordan Pool is the kind of player that’s going to take some chances. Sometimes it doesn’t go so well, but when the times pay off, BA, it is spectacular. Let’s check in with our reporter, Ally Leforce. Hey, Brian. Anthony Davis is letting it fly. He said, “The way that teams are playing me, I’ve been getting back to the mid-range. It’s an easier shot instead of fighting the double team. So, that’s all it is. Continuing to trust it and shoot it.” Brian, we’ve seen that jumper be a real weapon for him. Yeah, that’s a good call, Ally. Thanks. Cool. Outside. Pulls up high post. Rebound. Anthony Davis inside. Lively passes to Christie. Right wing pass to Davis [Applause] over Pool. A tough finish inside from Davis. Tremendous scoring output here from AD. I love this aggressive mindset. Pelicans trail by five. [Applause] Here’s Messi. [Applause] Cool with the ball to the middle. Boom. He jams it straight down. Oh man, he got fancy with that finish. He may be trying to provide the spark they need to break this one open. Now here’s Williams. [Applause] [Music] Pass to Davis. Oh, and he took a hard foul on the shot. So he’ll head to the line to shoot a pair. It’ll be on Zion Williamson. and fighting through the foul that time as AD was able to put that shot up on the night. He’s two for two at the stripe and we’ve got a timeout from Jason Kidd. Coach wants to speak to his guys, maybe alter some of the game plan and New Orleans making a change here. Jones has checked in. [Applause] shooting two and he knocks down the first one. [Applause] Second free throw, no good. Well, Brent, we’ve seen Trey Murphy grow into a prototypical 3 and D wing. Well, what’s been most impressive, DA, is you thought it was just his shooting. That’s been better than advertised. He’s also starting to show you he can rebound, run the floor, and defend a little bit. So, the package is a little bit bigger than it was once thought of with Trey Murphy coming out of the NBA draft. They throw good P. And if you watch P enough, you’re really going to appreciate that he can get it done in so many ways on the offensive end. And he makes both free throws. Here’s Miy covered by Lively. [Applause] Pass to Mei. He nails it. And we’re tied. Mei’s got 11. They’re punishing those late defensive rotations. Getting good looks inside throughout the half left side. Davis, it’s stolen away and unable to get the go-ahead bucket there for Dallas. They’ve gotten seven of 13 attempts to go here in the second. Pass to Pool. [Applause] Oh, what an effort by P. Those are two tough points from P. Great to see him mixing it up down low. Dallas has gone four of nine so far from the perimeter. Davis a screen. [Applause] Thompson outside. Here’s the three. That’s in there. Davis with the assist. Davis has got six assists in the game. Pass to Jones. [Applause] Launches it. Nails it from beyond the ark. He’s got five. Quick trigger from Trey Murphy. This dude can let it fly. Outside Davis to the inside and a slam dunk by Lively. So sick. the vertical ability. That was flatout awesome. He has that effortless knack for getting to the hoop. Now here’s Jones. It’s P on the wing defended by Thompson. P shot is off. Dallas has gone five of 10 from beyond the three-point line in this game. Davis against Pool and finished off by Davis. Is Davis competing in the All-Star slam dunk contest? I give him a 48. Pass to Mei [Applause] and he’s going for the oop here. And the ball out of play. The Mavericks will have it. Well, that’s two teammates who need to reintroduce themselves to one another, not on the same page. The Mavericks leading and here’s Davis. Jones grabs the board. A minute four left in the first half. [Applause] Pass to Miy now. Pool lets a floater go. Doesn’t go for him. Thompson with some nice D. Here’s Russell. Right side. Davis. Outstanding job by AD to get close to the basket, get the ball in great position, and force the defense to resort to fouling him. This will be his third trip to the free throw line. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. That free throw good from Davis. [Applause] [Applause] Both free throws good from Davis. So it’s the Pelicans now. There’s 31 seconds left to play in the first half. Now here’s P. He’s got 15. Fires from deep. Davis with a rebound. Davis has got rebound number 12 now. Tenacity on the glass to the left side wing down low. He shoots again. Look at Davis use his length. A stronger defensive presence would have saved them two points. It didn’t seem like anybody was really aware there to go and collect that rebound in the possession. And so it’s the Dallas Mavericks leading by six as we wrap up the quarter. Their key to consistency has been their dominance in the paint. They’ve been the more physical team. Well, now a minute to check in with Ally Leforce. She’s courtside. Hey, Ally. I’m here with PJ Washington. PJ, what will be the key for you guys defensively in the second half? Uh not letting them get easy routes to the basket and uh contesting their shots, rebounding, and uh just not letting them get second chance points. Comes back to the fundamentals, guys. Thanks very much, Ally. And folks, we’ll be right back to start the second half of this game. That And in that first half, we saw a pretty tight battle. We’ll soon find out what sort of adjustments were discussed during halftime. A fantastic game from Anthony Davis in this one. And just halfway through this contest, he’s already registered a double double. Yeah, guys like him love to stuff the stat sheet. He’s doing it here. [Applause] Here’s P. So, the Pelicans five right now. Williamson outside from deep and the rebound goes to Dallas. Sometimes you just have an off night, guys. And that’s what we’ve seen so far. Pass to Davis again. The Mavericks good for two more. And with that comfort that AD feels from the mid-range, he’s going to feast from there. Here’s Mi and he lobbs it up. Thompson with a steel. Davis with it. Davis drawing the double team. Thompson outside. The three from Russell. Misfires there. Four for six in the game now. Pelicans trail by eight and a minute played as the second half gets going. Pass to me. Pool outside, five on the clock. New Orleans needs to hurry. Late clock. The big time throwd down. Check him out. Keeps the grip on that rib after the finish. A little extra emphasis. [Applause] Thompson outside. [Applause] Right around a minute and a half played in the third quarter. Offensive board. Davis and Williamson with the block. Great job by Williamson. You know, I love watching him dunk, but man, his block shots are spectacular. Pool outside. No good on the triple. And just terrible defense. I don’t know how he missed that shot. Pass to Russell. And there’s the lob. Tipped. [Applause] They set the pick. He shoots it. [Applause] Tries again. Boy, he clanks that one off the back iron and it falls. Pool’s got 17 points. And he’s absolutely feeling it. There is no hesitation from Jordan Pool. And so Jason Kidd calls for the timeout. He’s going to gather the troops and talk it over. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Just over two and a half minutes gone by in the second half. Thompson outside. Three-pointer and no good. Pelicans trail by four. Cool outside. [Applause] Pass to Williamson. Williamson is double. Here’s Mi. Down to five on the shot clock. Goes up on the wing and it’s blocked by Davis. Russell deciding where to go with it. Now here’s Davis and misses it off the right side of the rim. to the inside. Pool gets it in close. Pool can make some of those inside offbalance opportunities look easy. Outside Russell. We’ve gone about three and a half minutes here into the third. Davis can’t hit. He’s getting good looks on the floor, but he simply cannot bury anything right now. Now he’s got to stay confident though because everyone knows he can hit those shots [Applause] for the lead counted from distance. Give him eight points now and it’s amazing neither team has been able to hold the lead for any length of time. Yeah, these guys are leaving it all on the floor tonight to the middle. [Applause] Thompson in the post guarded by Pool out to Thompson to win the drought again. The miss by Dallas. Man, you get so caught up in the bravado of someone scoring on you and you wanting to even the score. Unfortunately, he couldn’t answer back. And a look now at how the offensive approach has been going here so far for the Pelicans. Yeah, what stood out to me was their passing. They move the ball effortlessly and have been able to find those holes in the defense. And it seemed like throughout this game, right after the jump ball, they’ve just been feeling it from distance, getting all the looks they want and continuing to take advantage of that three-point line. First free throw is good. [Music] That one falls. So, he hits both of them. And so, Jason Kid calls for the timeout. He wants to review the game plan. One of the stories here, Jordan Pool. Man, is he getting it done today. He’s getting loose and doing work. They want to talk this over and find some answers. Here’s [Applause] [Applause] Russell. He’s got 12. Pass to Lively. [Applause] Back to Russell. Thompson with a screen. Will it go? Dallas needs to get off a shot. Releases again. The miss by Dallas. The Pelicans lead by three. [Applause] So, it’ll be two free throws. He was fouled in the act of shooting. Heading play to stop that easy layup right there. I mean, make him earn it at the line. [Applause] Shooting two. [Music] No good on that one. Jones, he’s checked in for Pool. Good on the second one. And so it’s Dallas with it. [Applause] Outside Russell pass to Davis. And this is his fourth trip to the free throw line tonight. [Applause] [Applause] And the first one at the line is good. [Applause] So he hits one of two from the stripe. New Orleans leading by three. Pass to Mei. Takes the three. Davis with a rebound. Davis has got his 16th rebound on the night. out left to the wing. [Applause] Covered by Williamson. Oh, the power. Anthony Davis. Oh, size and strength and then the length of AD getting up to jam it. Here’s New Orleans now. They’re on a 12-3 run. Pass to Mei. Williamson outside. Shot clock at six. Looking to get it going. Oh, plenty of contact on that shot. Officials call the foul and he’ll take two free throws. Now that’s on Derek Lively. Now, hard not to be overzealous when you’re defending Zion. And he’ll take his third and fourth free throws of the night. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. [Music] That’s good from Williamson. So for Dallas. Washington comes in for Anthony Davis. And Christy subbed in for Thompson. [Applause] and he can’t hit the second. And so it’s Russell who brings up the ball for the Dallas Mavericks. Two-point game. [Applause] Lively passes to Russell. [Applause] Ooh, can’t tie it up as that one’s no good. You won’t see him miss that one too many times. Yeah, that happens. Important thing is for players just don’t beat yourself up and make a miss like that cost you another play inside and that one is stuffed right through. That is all timing right there. Just led him perfectly. Dallas has gotten nothing to fall from outside in this third quarter. pass to Lively and out of bounds. New Orleans will have it. And Dallas making a change here. Marshalls checked in. New Orleans leading by four. Here’s Mi and here’s Williamson. And there’s a whistle. He’ll head to the line to shoot two. From a physical standpoint, you just can’t match up with Williamson’s power down low. He’s gone three or four from the line. Shooting two. [Applause] And he can’t get the first one. [Applause] Got this. We got this. [Applause] So he comes up empty missing both. Mavericks trail by four. Russell the pass to Christie. Back to Russell and the layup is good after a nice lead pass. Russell’s got 14. Well, Russell’s such a natural scorer and capable of connecting from just about anywhere. Pass to Mi. Back to Williamson. [Applause] Here’s Mi. 13 points in the game. Six to shoot. For three. Sinks it from distance. He’s got 10. Look, every time Murphy can get a look, he’ll take the look. Trust me. Christie passes to Washington. Now Lively, here’s Russell. Washington outside and the ball goes out of bounds. Last touch by Russell. I know people can’t see you, but you’re doing what I’m doing. Scratching your head to that turnover. Gafford, he’s checked in for the Mavericks. Looney’s checked in for New Orleans. Queen comes in for Zion Williamson. Here’s New Orleans now. They’re on an 18 to five run. Pass to Looney. [Applause] [Music] Here’s Queen. Plenty of space and that one off the back of the rim and in. Nice delivery there. You can’t hesitate when a man comes free on the perimeter. He got it. Went right into the shot. Outside Russell [Applause] to the paint and the shot goes down. Just some tough points from Russell. That’ll fire up this New Orleans leading by five. Keep going. [Applause] Looney the screen. [Applause] 13 ft out and another basket for New Orleans. Sweet stroke from the long winged wing. Murphy’s capable from the mid-range. Outside Russell. Here’s Marshall yet to see a basket. [Applause] Oh, they pick off the pass. Here’s Christie and he got the whistle on the way up. So, he’ll be headed to the line for a pair. It’s his first trip to the line. First one falls for him. Hawkins has checked in for New Orleans. You got this. You got this. And good on the second. So he makes them both. The Pelicans lead by five. [Applause] Pass to Jones. Oh, got a piece of it. Get stolen by Washington. Here’s Christie. Back to Russell. There’s the triple. That’s miss number five on the night. Six for 11 though. Inside here’s Queen. He’s off on that one. Oh, Washington with the defensive effort outside. Russell [Applause] Looney with some nice D. New Orleans has gone two for five from three since halftime and he was fouled while in the act of shooting. So, he’ll take two free throws. And the young guy taking it right at him. Jones doing what he can do to earn the foul. First trip to the free throw line for him in this one. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. [Applause] That’s good from Jones. Williams has checked in for Russell. [Applause] off on that one. So he goes one out of two at the line. Mavericks trail by six. Outside Williams. [Applause] Pass to Christie. Six on the shot clock. [Applause] Washington outside and it falls all over the rim and in. Washington’s got his second basket of the night. The Pelicans lead by four. Outside Jones down low. Pass to Hawkins. Puts up a three. Christie with a rebound. Dallas has got nothing to fall here in the third. 0 for four. Here’s Williams. No good. A bit long that time. Now 8 seconds. Separating the two clocks. Here’s Queen. He’s guarded by Gaffford. Gafford with the block. Outside Williams. Pass to Washington. And it’s Queen with a rebound. Well, that’s how to protect the rim without fouling. Force him into an awkward release and a bit of an adjustment on the layup. The third quarter comes to a close. It’s New Orleans. They’re up by four. Don’t go anywhere. The final quarter is coming up next on 2K Sports. [Music] And let’s take this opportunity to show you our State Farm assist of the game. You know, I’m kind of stoked that this was a choice because I love this pass. A remarkable find. He put his court vision on full display. Well, a great job with the eyes. And what separates great playmakers as we know is peripheral vision. We’ve reached the fourth quarter in what has been a very competitive game. Should be an exciting finish. Washington and Gaffer the combo inside. Then there’s Naji Marshall. Then it’s Williams and it’s Christy in at the two guard. That’s the lineup in the game for Dallas. Pass to Marshall. Just five to shoot. Gafford with a screen on Jones. Marshall knocks it down from distance. Cool, calm, and collected at a critical juncture in this game. Williamson outside to the middle. [Applause] Here’s Hawkins. Looney the screen. Hawkins. The pass to Looney. [Applause] kicks it out to Williamson from outside the ark. Goes up again. Oh, look at Looney finding space inside. Looney in the right spot there. Good presence on the inside as he boxes the defense out and sends the ball right up. Williams finds Gaffford. Now Williams pass to Christie to the inside. Oh, and there’s the whistle on the shot. So, two free throws for him coming up. Cavon Looney picks one up. No debate there. He He got hammered. He’s off on the first. And he’s good on the second. And they need to play good defense here. That trip to the line helped and hurt. Alvarado. The pass to Looney. Right side. Jones over to the left wing. Williamson for three. rebounded by Marshall. I know he’s on a cold streak, but he can’t let that get in his head. Especially if you’re a player that doesn’t get a lot of shot attempts, but otherwise the mindset is I just got to get the next one to go. And you don’t want to put that much pressure on yourself. And it’s time to take another look at that powerful block. Oh my. Oh my. And that was textbook defense positioning himself well to send it back. [Applause] Some room here for Williams and all around the rim that time before dropping and it’s a tie ball game. We’re about 2 minutes into the fourth here. Alvarado outside. Back to Williamson. Oh, it’s blocked by Washington. And they get it back. Pure from three-point range and Williams has got the ball here for the Mavs. Pass to Christie. Now here’s Washington. Here’s Marshall defended by Jones. It’s Washington high post. He’s against Williamson. Just five on the clock. Here’s Marshall. Jones grabs the board. Jones has got four rebounds in the game from the wing. Second shot opportunity. Williamson. No good. There’s a little bit of pressure on him, but not enough to cause him to miss a shot that’s in that close. Washington with the ball. [Applause] Pass to Williams. Washington a screen. Williams shot is good. Defensively, you can’t afford to get stuck on the pick. That’s one that the coaches will watch tomorrow with that player. You hate to see him give up in that situation. Alvarado. The pass to Williamson. Back to Alvarado. Pass to Looney Jones with the ball. The three is up. And again, it’s New Orleans with a three. Their strategy has been pretty simple here in the second half. Attack from three-point range. Maybe trying to find a little bit more space and ball movement to get guys open at the three-point line. Knocks it loose. Now here’s Alvarado. Williams defending. Now Williamson from the ark. Christie with a rebound. Well, he’s using the force but in the worst way possible right now. He just needs to dial it back and look to work the ball around the floor to his teammates. Williams from long range. Jones grabs the board. The Pelicans lead by four. Looking to get back on track. Zion aggressive on the interior. The moment Williamson gets inside, virtually nothing you can do to stop that lefty [Applause] outside. Williams pass to Christie [Applause] outside Williams. Washington a screen clock at four Williams. That’s good. And the defense is looking almost lost on the perimeter. That opens up a quality three-point shot and he delivers. Well, you concern yourself with the other guys who you think are going to damage you and he stepped up and delivered that huge three-point shot. Here’s Looney. Oh, a clear foul there on the missed shot. So, he’ll get a pair at the line. Daniel Gafford picks one up. Well, the defender was all over Kavon Looney and he got physical right back. That’s a nice play. Take a break. Take a break. First free throw is good. And it’s a completely new group here for the Mavericks. And New Orleans making a change here. [Music] [Applause] hits both from the stripe. Mavericks trail by five outside Davis. Lively with a screen on Looney to the paint, goes back up and Lively with the layin. It’s good in crunch time trying to get the foul, the bucket or both. And here is Williamson. And so he draws the foul headed to the line to shoot a pair. Man, good whistle there. [Music] Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. [Applause] And the first one at the line is good. And New Orleans making a change here. Jones has checked in. [Applause] That one’s no good. Even with one miss, he stretched this out to a two-possession game. Pass to Russell. Here’s Davis. It’s held in by New Orleans. [Applause] [Music] Here’s Messi. Now here’s Jones. There’s the three. The shot won’t fall. And this is exactly who you want taking that shot. He just missed it. Thompson no good. New Orleans leading by four. The three is up. It’s rebounded by Dallas. Rively’s got nine rebounds in the game. Boy, he’s getting it done outside. Davis pass to Lively. Russell with the ball. Lets it go from deep. That shot missing. Well, after an impressive first half, he’s just not been able to get the room or get anything going here in the second. Outside Jones to the middle. Here’s Williams. Oh my goodness. Oh, Zion Williamson. And Zion absolutely rocking the rim. Now here’s Davis. Thompson outside back to Davis outside Russell. Up top Thompson 19-footer that falls. Nice assist by Russell. Russell’s got three assists tonight. Totally reactionary. Not even thinking about it. Klay Thompson playing with some confidence. And it’s Willie Green calling the timeout here. He’s decided it’s time to clarify the situation, leaving little room for error. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] You guys see? [Applause] [Applause] Pool. He’s checked in for Jones. Let’s go now to the sideline and catch up with Alli Leforce. Thanks, guys. I was able to hear Willie Green coaching his team during that last break. Coach had a direct message for the team saying, “No matter the lead, no NBA game is ever over. Do not let your guard down.” We’ll see if they hold on. Good job there, Ally. Thanks. [Applause] Pass to me. Here’s P. Shot clock at five. Fires the three. No luck on that one. And so Thompson will bring it up for Dallas. Watch the ball. Davis down low. He’s against Williamson. Got it. And now it’s just a two-point Pelican lead. And when Davis is releasing his shot from that high in the air, there’s just no way to contest it. Three-pointer and the rebound goes to Dallas. Lively’s got 10 rebounds here tonight. So active to tie it up down low. And he got the whistle on the way up. So he’ll be headed to the line for a pair. That one on Murphy. The officials were right on top of that one. [Music] [Applause] Let’s get it. Get makes it and the next one could tie it up That one drops. He ties it up. Well, the Pelicans shooting just 42% so far in the game. Pass to Pool. And there’s the foul. It’s on D’Angelo Russell. That’ll be a second foul of the game. And now it’s time to take another view of that huge swat. And this is exactly why he’s out here. in order to block shots in tight games like this. [Applause] And here is Williamson. Checked by Davis. Just four to shoot. Shot on the wing. Williamson misses. A critical possession with time winding down. Yep. This is their moment. It’s deflected and he gets it back. Here’s Russell and they recover it. Pass to Thompson. Davis against Williamson. A chance there to take the lead, but a miss. [Applause] It’s tipped. And here’s Lively. Now here’s Davis to take the lead again with the block. A defensive stalward so far. That’s six blocks. Protecting the rim well. Love the hustle. And how about that replay, man? You got to appreciate the hustle on defense. What a powerful rejection. He’s not one of them to get an advantage in this competitive game [Applause] to the left wing. Clock at six. [Applause] Outside Russell. Oh, and that one had the right spin on it. It’s good. D’Angelo Russell not scared of the big moment. The Pelicans trail inside. Here’s Williamson again. Williamson missing. He’s got so many ways to score in the post. Just nifty. Uses fakes. Have to have a body on him every time he’s down there. Thompson with a screen. The three from Russell again. Russell missing. It’s been a struggle all night long from deep, but doesn’t seem like he’s lost his confidence. He’s still letting rip and Williamson throws it down. Zion wanted it and he nailed it. There’s a minute 12 left in the fourth quarter. The fader. Mi grabs the board. Pelicans shooting around 30% since the fourth quarter got underway. Pass to Williamson. Shoots over Davis again. Williamson missing. That’s a shot they want just about on every possession if they can get it. He doesn’t make them all, but still very much a high percentage look. [Applause] Davis with it. Covered by Williamson. There is absolutely no fear in his eyes. He loves the moment. Love seeing that there. A huge possession and he nets it. And we’ve got a timeout called by Willie Green. There is a lot on the line and he is determined to make sure everyone’s on the same page. All right, thoughts on what coach is going to do here. With the time left, I think they’ve got to be looking for a quick shot here. [Applause] 35 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Pass to Williamson. Here’s Messi. Guarded by Russell. Stolen by Russell. And now they decide to foul intentionally. Important possession here. Yeah, we’ll see how they execute under pressure. And they go to the intentional foul. [Applause] He drops the first one and that makes it a three-point lead. Second one is good. getting both at the line and it’s a four-point ball game. Great job at the line and it’s now a two-p possession game and the Pelicans call time here. 23 seconds left to play in the fourth. Any speculation on what we’re going to see coming out of this timeout. Score quick then foul. Then you have to hope for some missed free throws. Yeah, this this won’t be easy. So, a little bit of luck will go a long way for them to get back in. 23 seconds left to play in the fourth quarter. Shoots, and it’s in. And he’s brought them within two points. Wow, that’s just tremendous scoring instinct. So fun to watch him work in the half court. Yeah, just trying to keep this game alive. Not a bad foul right there. He gets the first and that makes it a three-point lead. And so he drops them both and it’s a four-point ball game. Yeah, that’ll ice it right there. Not everybody can keep their composure at the line in such a big situation. Back to pool. Launches a three. He connects. Oh, what a sensational bucket. That brings him within one. And we’ve got a timeout from Jason Kid. The pressure is on and he’s got a plan to share with his guys. Heat. Heat. [Applause] And they need to stop the clock. So there’s the foul. Yeah. And there’s no question they have to foul. Now I’m sure they would have preferred to avoid it. [Applause] Big. [Music] First free throw is good. And that’ll put him up two. So he goes two for two at the line and it’s a three-point game. Well, important there to have the three-point lead because only A3 can tie it up now. And so it’s the Mavericks who have come out on top here. What a performance they have here at home today. I’ll tell you what, these are the ones that are so nice to win and so tough to lose. I love being on the edge of my seat, never knowing what would happen next. And now we have Ally Leforce standing with the player of the game. Ally, take it away. Anthony, your playmaking stood out tonight. Did you flash back to your days as a perimeter player in high school? Uh, a little bit. A little bit. Uh, the perks of being a guard before I became a big, you know, get to handle the ball like that. So, you know, it was fun. It was fun tonight and once more we got to win and, you know, just keep getting better. He can do it all. Thanks, AD. All right, Ally. Good stuff there. Thanks for that. And that’ll wrap it up folks for Brent Barry, Ally Leforce, and Grant Hill. This is Brian Anderson thanking you for tuning in. And we present the player of the game, Anthony Davis. [Applause] I got everybody. [Applause]
