Damian Lillard’s Secret to That DEADLY Jumper 🎯

Damian Lillard’s Secret to That DEADLY Jumper 🎯

Did you see this video? Yeah. My fingers was off the ball. Like my Yeah. Yeah. Is that normal? The weird thing is when I learned how to shoot, I didn’t shoot that way. I think when I was like 10 years old, my dad used to get on my ass about like you got to shoot off your fingertips. Like you shooting a knuckle ball. Cuz my dad shoots like he’s the only other person I’ve ever seen shoot like that. Like when he shoots it, the ball is like off. But he do it worse than me. It’s almost like he’s like literally flicking the ball. So he was like, “Look, it got to come off your fingertips.” So I started shooting the ball. Like that’s how I could get rotation off and then just like deflect. Yeah. I would just like roll it off like that and then I just started really working at it and shooting and once you get a certain amount of reps like I don’t even feel it no more. But I think the way that I train is definitely a big part of it. Like I always could shoot but learning to shoot in one motion and have a full shot where I dip. Like my from the dribble to the dip is all one motion and it’s all going into one full shot. I think that with the strength and all those other things is what makes it an easy shot for me. [Music]

  1. That's how I started shooting too, sometimes comfort in your shit is all you need. As soon as you try to change it, then you overthink it and it doesn't feel natural it messes the rhythm all up, so I just go with what comes naturally

  2. I found out i have the tyrese shooting form. Down to shooting mid jump and shooting from my palm 😂

  3. Oh my. Thats contrary to popular belief. Every shooting coach says shoot off the fingertips and there Dame is breaking the norm and said with enough reps, training and strength you can beat the norm.

  4. It doesn't matter whether its Reggie Miller to Tyrese Hali having odd shooting mechanics. The ball goes in and thats really the point.

  5. Insightful, and a reason sometimes when you are starting off trying to copy pros is not the best strategy. Copy their work ethic but not their techniques. When you spend 20,000 hrs+ on something the technique is not necessarily going to be textbook.

  6. No cap you gotta have real strength to do that people think it’s easy. It’s not you have to cock it back over your head. Mid air that isn’t easy specially as a kid you can only start doing this after like 15+ takes a lot of strength to shoot like that and skill.

  7. It’s crazy because I don’t put my palm on the ball when I shoot it’s all finger tips . I set the all time record for threes made in a game and a season for my high school and conference.. ended up playing D1 and my college coach even said it’s weird how you see so many different ways guys are successful shooting

  8. For everyone who is confused, instead of starting the shot with the fingertips he starts the ball in his palm and let it roll back to his fingertips THEN releases off the finger tips

  9. Dell Curry said in an interview, Steph used to have a low release and he forced him to change it before graduating HS, which is why he dropped as a recruit. It ended up a blessing obviously, he became the 🐐 shooter. Plus going to a small school like Davidson allowed him to cook and try all the shyt, Seth couldn’t do at Duke. Same for guys like Dame & Ja, who were lower recruited PGs, who went to small D1 schools.

  10. Dame has one of the prettier easy jumpers in the league and he got crazy strength too cause of the distance he shoots feom

  11. Too bad he's washed up now…. tough to have longevity as a scoring guard. Portland paid him for the fans, but they just set back their franchise about 5-10 years

  12. My little brother shoots like this. We’d laugh and say it sounds like he’s slapping the ball in

  13. chris mullen taught us how to shoot the three after winning the 3 point contest ..who's old enough to remember?
