The Spurs Struck Gold With David Jones-Garcia…

[Music] The player that was arguably the best at the 2025 summer league wasn’t some super high-profile lottery pick. It was a guy who went undrafted in 2024, David Jones Garcia. The Dominican guard lit it up for the Spurs, being named first team all summer league in the process. Over eight games between Vegas and California, he averaged 22 points, six rebounds, and three assists per game on blazing 525188 shooting splits. He didn’t do it with top tier athleticism or blazing speed either. He plays at his own pace, gets to his spots, and has mastered the pump fake to his advantage. You might think this just sounds like a hot streak that isn’t replicable. However, he isn’t new to getting buckets. After going undrafted out of Memphis last year, he spent his time playing with Mexico City in the G-League. He was extremely impressive there as well, putting up 25 points, eight rebounds, and three assists a night while shooting an extremely efficient 49% from the field and 91% from the line. The dude is a shooter and has proven that again and again. He carried the momentum from his G-League rookie season into summer league and it was enough to earn him a two-way contract with the Spurs. Don’t expect this to translate into a starting role for San Antonio or anything. I mean, it is just a two-way, but for a team that just offloaded Malachi Brham and Blake Wesley, they could use some extra depth at the two guard spot. Jones Garcia can bring just that. He’s been doubted basically his whole way up the pipe, so I’d suggest getting on the train while you can. The Spurs struck gold with David Jones Garcia. Now, let’s take a deeper look. Before we get more into the shocking breakout player for the Spurs, if you enjoy my content and watch a few videos of mine, think about subscribing. 96% of my viewers are actually not subscribed. So, if you watched before and enjoy the content, drop a sub and comment down below. It really helps the channel. David Jones Garcia made the most of his summer league opportunity and the Spurs are taking notice. The 23-year-old guard/forward is signing a two-way contract with San Antonio. Purbn Shams Trannia Jones Garcia was a standout for the Mexico City Capitan in the G- League last season, but entered summer league largely under the radar. That changed quickly. He impressed in both the California Classic and Las Vegas summer league, averaging 22 points, six rebounds, and three and a half assists while shooting with elite efficiency. His breakout performances caught the eye of Euro League powerhouse Olympios, who reportedly made him a significant offer, but Jones Garcia turned it down, prioritizing an NBA opportunity, and now he’s getting one. Despite a crowded backcourt in San Antonio, the Spurs clearly saw enough to make room for him. His willingness to accept a two-way deal made the decision even easier, giving the team financial flexibility while adding a dynamic score with upside. He’ll likely split time between the G-League’s Austin Spurs and the NBA roster, but he’ll remain under team control and could earn a standard contract if a spot opens up or he forces their hand with strong play. San Antonio has a history of uncovering hidden gems. Patty Mills, Gary Neil, and Bren Forbes is among them, and Jones Garcia could be next in line. With his scoring touch and emerging playmaking skills, he has a real chance to carve out a role, even if immediate minutes are hard to come by. Thanks for watching. I’m Herm. Have a good one. The breakout star of the 2025 Summer League wasn’t a top draft pick or hyped-up rookie—it was David Jones-Garcia, a 23-year-old Dominican guard who went undrafted in 2024.

After dominating in the G League last season with the Mexico City Capitanes, Jones-Garcia carried that momentum into Summer League and torched defenses. In 8 games between the California Classic and Las Vegas, he averaged 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists per game—on outrageous 52/51/88 shooting splits—earning a spot on the All-Summer League First Team.

He’s not the fastest or most explosive athlete on the floor, but he plays at his own pace, uses fakes and footwork to his advantage, and just knows how to get buckets. That skillset—and his ultra-efficient shooting—earned him a two-way contract with the San Antonio Spurs, who just offloaded two young guards in Malaki Branham and Blake Wesley.

While Jones-Garcia may not jump straight into the Spurs’ rotation, his shot creation and scoring versatility make him one to watch. San Antonio has a history of turning undervalued players into contributors, and DJG might be next in line.

Think about subbing, I’m on the road to 15k!!!

  1. If the Spurs don't sign him long term I know for a fact that every other team out there would have no problem signing him full time…

  2. If his plays translates to the NBA, scorers of that caliber are rare. It's gravy that he can rebound and get assists at that clip.

  3. I won't be surprised if Garcia will win games for the Spurs. He won't waste the chance to put an show of firepower when he gets the chance.
