HOUR 3 | ESPN ranks NBA teams rebuilding; where do the Utah Jazz rank compared to the rest? | NFL…
Ladies and gentlemen, the biggest name. You’re locked into JJ and Alex with the insight and analysis on the teams you can’t live without, presented by G2G bars. This is 975, the KSL Sports Zone. All right, welcome back everybody. JJ and Alex, 975, the KSL Sports Zone. Just tucking into a nice bowl of uh sauerkraut noodles over here. JJ, don’t mind me. How could they eat like that in the 1840s? It got my bowl of uh sauerkraut and noodles. Going to dip a little hard tack in there. Give me that hasty pudding with some raisins, my guy. Dip that in your raisins. I know. I’m telling you. Dip your hard tack into some hasty pudding. Hopefully you catch a raisin. Hard attack definitely sounds like Whoops. A little bit of buffalo chip got in there. Oh, that had to happen on the trail, right? Of course. Of course, man. All right, we’ll uh happy Pioneer Day tomorrow. We’re excited about it. I’m going to be at Second South and Second East tomorrow, by the way, announcing the parade from the KZNS from the KSL Sport Zone uh you know, little uh pop-up tent. Boom. I’ll be right there. Me and Sean Croch, we’re going to be over there. I’m going to be I’m going to be absolutely heckling people as they go by. Are you going to roast Mike Hedrickk? If you think No, because Mike is gonna be over at the TV stand, you know, over at uh over by uh Library Square. So, what member of our staff’s going to uh catch your wrath? You know who’s gonna be walking in the parade? Alex Napoulos. If you think you’re going to c If you think you’re not going to catch heck from this guy, parades his life. Uh tomorrow, I’m gonna hide. There will be absolute go after Christian. Christian Esparza. Christian’s going to be there. The whole the whole Saturday show. There’s no hiding when you’re walking down State Street and thousands of people are gathered around staring at you. I’m all Hey everybody, there’s Alex Napples. Everybody give him a hand. I’m gonna make it happen, dude. I’m making it happen. I’m going to harass the whole dang float. I can’t wait. You hear his voice on KSL Sports Rewind each and every Friday night. Hey everybody, got a fresh one coming out I 15, your favorite traffic and playbyplay and radio producer guy. What else do you do, dude? I’m telling you. Oh, he’s just multit. That’s why he’s walking to the parade tomorrow. So, we’ll see. I’m going to harass the heck out of our whole staff who’s walking on that on that uh on that float tomorrow. So, there you go. Can’t wait. Everybody’s going to be catching uh you know, it’s like those, you know, those golf tournaments where there’s a guy who just heckles somebody on one of the TE’s. That’s what I want to do. I’m basically going to be doing that from the KZNS booth, from the KSL Sport Zone booth. So there you go. Watch out for us tomorrow there in the days of 47 parade. We’ll be hanging out. I’m going to bring some uh some buttermilk donuts. I mean, since that’s our heritage finding those. That was the only pioneer food that you mentioned that I have any interest in. I told you I guess I’d try the Well, they have the Johnny O Spudnuts up there. Try the Mormon gravy with the meat drippings. Yeah, it’s it sounds pretty good. I mean, that’s essentially just biscuits and gravy. But I will say this. I told you about Johnny O Spudnuts up in uh up in Logan. It’s a potatobased dough that they make these donuts and they’re nice and hefty. Yeah. And they’re phenomenal. I’ll try that too. But I want these buttermilk. Give me that buttermilk. There are buttermilk donuts. You can get the cake based doughnut. You can go to like Harman’s or one of those like that do the It’s that heavier one with the just like the simple glaze on it. I know you’ve eaten it. I know you have. Okay. Cuz you’re a donut guy like me. You’re a donut guy like me. You just look at me and assume I’m a donut guy. What I do know for sure offended. What I do know for sure is that you’re a G2G guy. G2G bars, all natural ingredients and no preservatives make the G2G bar the perfect protein bar. Give it a shot today. Costco, Holiday Oil, Maverick, Associated Foods, and many other retailers in the in the refrigerated section. Give it a shot today. Let’s kick off this hour with the cut. Let’s jump in right here. It’s time for the biggest story of the day. This is what made the cut with JJ and Alex on 975, the KSL Sports Zone. Trades and Wealth brings you this portion of the program. T R AJwealth.com for all your trusted local needs in retirement. Go check them out. tradeswealth.com. All right. Uh JJ, the NBA rebuild rankings. All right. So, there are a couple things that go into this. I I like this list. You know why? Because there’s some stuff in here that actually kind of gives you a little bit of hope. Remember yesterday we were talking about the ranking of of bad moves of bad uh the worst moves since 2020. I thought ESPN missed on the Jazz. Well, but it was kind of nice because at the very least like they they put him at like 26 out of the 30 to say, “Hey, you know, if the worst thing is is they didn’t trade Lowry Markin when they had the chance, they still have Lowry Markin, right? And it’s a guy who they could kind of build some build a team around, right? And now you’ve got a summer league MVP in your back pocket. We saw Did Did we ever find out if anybody from the Utah Jazz have ever won summer league MVP before? It’s never happened. Just like Charlotte Hornets winning a summer league championship, that never happened. I know. I know. Because we follow these things. Yes. We track them. So, the interesting thing about these rankings, these are the 14 teams who are were on the outside looking in last year. Basically, lottery teams, right? These are Yes. These are the lottery teams. Teams that did not make the playoffs. Your non-playoff contenders from last year and where they are this year. Now, I’ll start from the bottom down. the worst of the worst all the way down. The ones that I think are the This is supposed to be the uh the ones who have way more work, way more meat on that on that rebuild bone. Right. Yeah. So, the Phoenix Suns 14th out of the out of the 14. They’ve got eight players under the age of 25, which compared to some of these other teams on the list is not good. So, they’re not particularly young, but they’re also they don’t have any tradeable first round picks, so not a lot on in the hopper when it comes to being able to negotiate. They’ve also got three rookie scale three rookie scale contracts. Now, they did get in exchange for Kevin Durant. And I don’t think this is totally bad. Jaylen Green and uh and Dylan Brooks coming over from the from Houston. They got rid of Bradley Beal, which frankly in my mind is is was the next step in being able to even get to a rebuild, right? Will Matt Ishbia, the owner of the of the uh Suns, admit that they’re even in a rebuild? They’re probably on the cusp for him. They got uh Kaman Malawatch out of Duke obviously in the in the in the uh this year’s uh draft. And so there you go. But if you’re the J if you’re a Jazz fan, you’re grateful you’re not in the position that the Phoenix Suns are because that’s going to that’s a longterm they might be bad when the Jazz get their pick in what is it 2030 unprotected. Uh I can’t remember. Suns are going to be bad for a while. Well, that’s the point, right? And that’s Deon Booker is going to be fine with it because he’s making $75 million a year. Okay. The Pelicans are also a team that don’t have a lot when it comes to where their prospects are into the future, but they do have uh they have some they have some names on their on their roster. And I obviously the biggest thing that that rotates around the the universe of the Pelicans is whether or not Zion Williamson is going to be the guy going forward, right? Or if he can figure it out. The Bulls are 12. The Portland Trailblazers are 11. The Toronto Raptors are 10. The Brooklyn Nets are nine, and then your Utah Jazz are number eight. So, kind of square in the middle when it comes to where this team is. And and and where they are kind of in the rebuild. I think that was generous considering that there’s a lot of work to get done. But the thing that they do have is they’ve got one of the youngest teams in the league, 12 players under the age of 25. Isn’t that wild? You think about how young this team is. We already know actually under the age of 22 you probably have a lot of guys who are in that number. Uh tradable first round picks they have seven of them. Say what you will about Danny A and Justin Xanic and and now Austin and what they they have to deal with or what they have to work with. They have a lot of players on the rookie scale contracts, which is a good thing when you talk about youth. And then they have tons of assets to be able to try to figure out how to build this thing even if they need to pull the trigger and make some other things happen, which I think, you know, everybody looks and then they go, combine that with Ace Bailey, combine that with some of the younger guys who are out there. You got rid of big names in the offseason, uh, in Colin Sexton, John Collins, and of course, Jordan Clarkson, but this team has a long long long way to go. So, don’t be fooled by the number eight out of the 14. There are still a couple of years of pain for this team to go through, right? No doubt. No doubt. I just wonder what that actually looks like. I wonder what that looks like. I wonder what the seven picks, the seven first round tradable picks that they have in the in the quiver there, what that could translate into. I think at least one more year of extreme pain. I think that that uh draft lottery next year is too important. There’s players in it that are too good. Uh, you know, I think would the Utah Jazz love to land AJ Debonsa? Of course. And would that kind of be the kind of like the Cooper flag thing with Dallas, would that be their cornerstone? Absolutely would be. And then all of a sudden, if you have AJ Deansa, you have Ace Bailey, you’ve got a Lowry Market under contract, you got your worm protector and Walker Kesler, you got some nice guards. Now we now we can start talking about the Jazz moving forward. But they need that piece. And unfortunately, this is why they’re in this situation. It’s going to come from the draft. They’re they’re in the middle of the road here, which is good news. They’re not in some bad situations like the Bulls or the Suns, but they’re also not at the top either. There’s some teams in front of them in the West that are in much better situations when it comes to their rebuilds. And so, it’s going to take some time. There has to be a lot of patience with the Jazz. And I think the Jazz fans listening right now, you’ve already been asked to have a lot of patience. and I think you might be running out of it. But that’s just that’s where they’re at right now. That’s the reality of the situation. Next year’s all about the lottery again. Yeah. And I will say too that on top of all of that, I mean, it’s interesting to see all the assets that they do have and all the things they they have to work with, but there are a lot of teams with very similar kind of rebuild situations, including the Charlotte Hornets, your summer league champions. Raise the banner. Same thing. Players under 25, there’s 12 of them for them as well. tradable first- round picks. They actually have one more than the Jazz do. They have eight players on the rookie scale contract. Seven. But I think that when people put the Hornets ahead of the Jazz, of course, like just from a organizational standpoint, they’ve never been able to clear any meaningful hurdles, right? But when you look at a a group that has Brandon Miller, they just drafted Khan Canipple. Um LaMelo Ball. I don’t love LaMelo Ball, but you can’t deny he’s a pretty darn good basketball player when he’s healthy, right? How good though? I don’t know. He’s good, but he’s not good enough to get them in the playoffs. Miles Bridges also on that team. So anyway, bottom line is is I I I get it. Look, they didn’t get Cooper flag. They’re as devastated as everybody else is that they were not in that conversation to get Cooper flag. But that’s an organization that’s been bad forever. They’ve had multiple lottery picks and they still have not been able to figure it out. Going back to their time when Michael Jordan owned the team, the Hornets have been they’re the they’re the remember the Clippers back in the 80s and 90s and how we all just like looked rolled like even the 2000s. Oh yeah. Kind of before the Chris Paul era. No, the Donald Sterling. It was kind of the tail end of Donald Sterling and he was and and he had no intention. He had no intention of making them a good team. He didn’t care. The Hornets feel like the Clippers of the 21st century. I get it. Bad bad bad every year. So, here are the rest of them right here. And this is again going from six all the way down to one. One being quote unquote like in the best position, right? The Washington Wizards at six. Again, very, very young teams. The Memphis Grizzlies are in this conversation, I think, because their current roster is a little bit more favorable, uh, even though they don’t have as many young guys and they don’t have as many, uh, you know, rookie scale contracts that late. And another team who’s got a lot of names on the, uh, on the roster, the Philadelphia 76ers. They also have a young a young team though, 12 players under the age of 25. But of course, Joel Embiid, Paul George, do you count him in the all-star trio that they are naming with these three? He’s been an all-star before. He has technically been an all-star before. He has an all-star contract. Just like you Oh, of course. And just like you say, oh, Larry Malin, Larry Markin, he’s an all-star. You go, he was once and that was a couple years ago. Got to see more right now. Again, a guy who got paid all-star money, though. Joel Embiid, Paul George, Tyrese Maxi. That’s a for whatever you can say about those guys, that’s that’s three big names. Yes. On a roster that you also have a lot of young guys. And then you also were able to get yourself in a spot where you got a pretty decent draft pick situation. So, uh, Atlanta, is it three? Number two are your Dallas Mavericks. um solely because of who they got in this last year’s draft and because having Anthony Davis is still a really really good thing to have on your team and Kyrie Irving and Kyrie Irving when he comes back was it the ACL or the Achilles everybody. So, when he comes back from the ACL, and it might not be this year obviously, but when you’re looking at whatever version of of Kyrie Irving comes back, I think you’re going to have something pretty special there. And again, just just what Dallas needed, right, was uh right, more praise of all these amazing moves that they made to get uh to get Cooper flag. Let’s reward a poorly managed franchise with the best player, a generational player in the lottery. Speaking of generational players, um this is the team that everybody has pegged to be the one that’s on the rise the quickest and if it’s not getting into the playoffs this year. It is definitely being part of a long-term conversation of being good. The San Antonio Spurs, Victor Winyama, Stefon Castle, they got Dylan Harper, of course, and you think about De’ar Fox. And now that I say all these names out loud and we already knew all these things, but when you say it out loud like that, you string all those names together, San Antonio could win another couple of titles over the next 10 years. And that’s a crazy thing to think that a San Antonio’s first team, let’s say they win two and 10, because that’s the type of player they’re getting with Victor Wanyama. That’s the payoff that you’re hoping for with a generational guy like that. and you’ve got the number one pick, the number four pick, the number two pick from this year, and then you’ve got De’arren Fox who is an all-star guard. When you look at those things and you say, let’s say that they just had two titles, just two, over the next 10 years, the Spurs will be have seven championships in that building. The San Antonio Spurs and having lived in Texas, San Antonio is looked at as a fourth rate Texas city. Yeah. It goes Dallas Fort Worth. It goes Houston. It goes Austin. And then you start thinking about San Antonio. Now, I’m not saying that there’s a fourth rate place. What I’m saying is, I mean, Charles Barkley would for the ladies, but the Spurs, the Spurs are a team that is bonafide. And to be able to bring in somebody who actually could potentially be even better than Tim Duncan was is insane to think. and they could win a couple of titles there. I’m being very I I’m being a little pessimistic probably with two and 10 years because if you’re their ownership group, you go they better win three in the next eight, right? I mean, they feel like they’re going to be at that cont that level of contention the next couple of years. And so, I don’t disagree with this. After everything you just said about the Spurs, and I actually don’t disagree with you, their chances of making the playoffs next year are less than 10%. Right. Still pretty bad. Like, it’s going to take a minute. It’s still going to take. They could be year three in the Victor Wimyama era and still not make the playoffs. Imagine an era when Victor Wimbeyama, Stefon Castle, and Dylan Harper are all grown up. When they’re all 20 between 24 and 28 years old, that team is going to be ridiculous. Yeah, they still have some time. They still need some time. Of all these teams, who makes the playoffs next year? Uh, 76ers for sure. I mean, at least I say for sure consuming health, but also in the sense that they they decide like it was the weirdest thing when they started to go into this. They started losing some games and then they just went, you know what, screw it, we’re out, right? Yeah. That was a team who was definitely in the conversation of being in the in the race in the East. Why not? Uh I I can’t put the Mavericks there. Not yet. Because you have to look at the West. Who drops out? The Grizzlies did make the playoffs last year. I think they drop out. The Kings aren’t in this list, but they would be they’d be a non-playoff team. They were last year as well. Yeah. You know what’s crazy is I can’t think of one of these. Like who’s who’s the one team that didn’t make the playoffs in the West last year that does this year. It’s crazy. I don’t know if I know if I Maybe the Mavericks. Maybe. Maybe the Mavericks. Might be the Portland Trailblazers. Okay. But I doubt any of them do. Yeah. All right, we’ll take a break. We’ll uh come back when we do. We’ve got our NFL Blitz right around the corner. You don’t want to miss it. We’ve got some updates on. By the way, I have a starting quarterback update for the folks that are New York Giants fans. Hey now. Spoiler alert, it is not Jackson Dart. Stay with us. 97D KSL Sports Zone. All the latest news and notes from the league and the locals in the NFL. JJ and Alex bring you the NFL Blitz on 975 DKSL Sports Sum. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Welcome back JJ and Alex 975 VKSL Sport Zone. Alex Cury, Jeremiah Jensen, and Cougar Board contributor Alex Napol on the program with us. Hold on. This this deserves a little bit of a story. Will you explain? because we’re talking about how the BIES story that I talked about the other day, which by the way, I just I have a guy who works in Texas. Now, this is where I’m from, by the way, and he has it’s a guy that I that is very close to the situation and he sent me a Bucky Beaver and he told me like with a hey now and now I would never out this guy because I think he’d lose his job. And then it was mentioned on Cougar Board, which Alex Naples, our producer, mentioned. And he goes, “Yeah, I was on cougar board when I was on there doing my daily update on my Cougs.” That is not what I said. No. What is What is Alex Napol doing on cougar board? I saw people doubting you on the social media whether or not it was true. And so I did some googling. I put Bies Spanish Fork Utah and the first thing that popped up was cougar board. Oh, there you go. So I was like, why is cougar board the first thing that popped up? I did get something too. Somebody was like, you I wouldn’t trust a BYU alumni ever with this BES information. And I was like, “This is the weirdest trash talk I’ve ever gotten.” So, are you BYU football his life on Cougar Board? Is that your name? Yeah. I can’t confirm or deny this information. I do love the idea. Sorry, I just outed you. I do love the idea that Alex Napoulos hangs out on Cougar Board. I love it. Hey, hey, not your first time there. Hey, by the way, welcome. I do not believe you. We got him. Uh JJ, NFL roundup looks like this. If we caught him doing something illegal or immoral freak with all my family about it. He doesn’t want to. Don’t tell anybody it was on cougar board. Don’t tell anybody. All right. He can’t know. Uh, hey, look, it’ll bring you some Yeah, you get You need to have it. You got to have it, man. Come on. Got to have that experience on Cougar Board. It’s a place, man. It’s a place you can hang out. Tuango Aloa says that Tyreek Hill is working to regain the dolphin’s trust. What does that even mean? What trust did he violate? I think the idea that he the trade thing. Yeah, he didn’t want to be there. That’s kind of the vibe, right? Well, he’s frustrated. He had the worst statistical year of his career. I believe he I don’t even think did he even get to a,000 yards last year? It was a rough year for the Dolphins. He did, but it was like just I think he got to like a,4 and he had but I mean the year before I remember seeing his numbers and obviously if you’ve played fantasy football okay almost there. If you played fantasy football last year and you drafted Tyreek after years and years of him delivering you a fantasy football championship, you were terribly disappointed last year cuz it was rough. I am uh I can’t do the Yeah, he was 30th in receiving yards last year. He had six touchdowns. Uh 30th in receiving yards. Yes. I mean that makes sense cuz he was hurt. He finished behind DJ Moore. Was he was Jawan Jennings had a better year than Tyreek Hill. Wasn’t he injured for part of the year, too? I mean, I don’t think he I don’t think he made every game. I don’t think he played every game. No, he played 17 games. He did. Yes. Uh the year before, what did he have? 1,900 yards. He was voted the number one player in the league by his peers. LA the year before. So, 1,800 the year before. Yeah. Not bad. You go from 1799 to 959 in one year. That’s that’s a big drop. Do you think Tyreek Hill is working to regain anybody’s trust on the planet? Absolutely not. Probably not. Come on. Tuangoa has to be the one who says it. By the way, Broncos quarterback uh Bo Nicks met with Drew Brees and quote wants to improve. JJ uh your secondyear quarterback for the Broncos wants to improve. Is that uh any comment on that? The guy. That’s great. He wants to get better. That’s nice. Okay. Hey, did you know this is the first time since 2015 that the Broncos have had the same coach and player in back-to-back years? Same coach and quarterback in backto-back years. In a decade. That’s crazy. That is crazy. However, I’ve got more former Bronco quarterback news for you. Your guy, Russell Wilson, is going to be the Giants starting quarterback. Thanks to Brian Dable’s uh signature on the bottom line. He’s our guy. He got the endorsement. He’s our He’s our starter. Make no mistake, there’s going to be others participating and competing, but Russell Wilson is your day one starter. How do you feel about Brian Dable? If How would you feel if you’re Brian Dable and your job depends on Russell Wilson going out there and leading you to victories? I want I want to know what the conversations that they’re having with ownership is or with ownership. know, but like you know the GM and and the president of football and all that stuff with the Giants obviously they know that and by the way we talked about how this is a brilliant move like this is the and I know we make fun of it. I know we make fun of Russ a little bit and that’s my guy won my Seahawks a Super Bowl but guess what the best situation for a future of whatever quarterback it might be and I know people are crossing their fingers that it’s Jackson Dart and I hope that that’s the case too is that Russell Wilson is the starter on day one. agree and is that he’s the starter for the major for all season long. You don’t want Jackson Dart to be put in prematurely. They have put the money behind the kid and they’ve said, “We want you to be our guy. Sit back and watch how it is to be a pro because the the uh the other New York team across the way freaking blew it with their uh with their first round draft pick.” And like so many other teams have done before, too. Put a guy in way too early. You know, I think about Jammarcus Russell. I think about uh you know when they somebody posted his like first game when he was a Raider and they’re like oh here comes the future and it just was awful. Yeah. And then the cheeseburger story start coming out and then then that’s it. Yeah. And it’s it’s terrible. And and these guys who get thrust into the situation too early. It’s a disservice to him. And so if you are Brian Dable, you’re not just counting on Russell Wilson to have a decent year for you. You’re hoping that your guys can develop behind him. Are the Titans okay with rushing Cam Ward in this? Oh my goodness. Can you listen to this Cam Ward quote because we found something and I didn’t know what. Look, speaking of guys who are going to get thrust into the limelight and and by the way, the best way to do it is with an injury, not because you know your team doesn’t have any any faith in Will in Will Levis or not, but Will Levice is going to have season ending surgery. What does that mean? It means that Cam Ward is going to be the guy. You know who thinks he’s going to be the guy, too? is Cam Ward. And you know who loves him a little bit of Cam Ward? Cam Ward. Here’s what he said about the situation with Will Levis to the media yesterday. Your reaction to the news that Levis had decided to have surgery and it’s kind of subtracted from the quarterback room now. I really didn’t have a reaction. I focused on Cam Ward. He went full third person. He’s focused on the third person. Like this is a guy who’s having season ending surgery and the and the thing is can’t say one nice thing. Uh I don’t even think about that guy because all I think about all Cam Ward thinks about is Cam Ward, my guy. Dang. Ice cold. I love it. Hey, maybe maybe that means he’s a Stone Cold killer, man. Maybe it means that uh like your teammate is out for the year. You can’t say anything nice about it like get well soon. This guy, you can’t even offer that. the injury stuff. It’s one thing for maybe Will Levis was a dirt bag to him when he came in. Hey Rook, get my bag. You know what I mean? Like Will Levice went full Brett Favre on him. Will Levis comes in and goes, “Hey, grab Cam Ward. Time up to the goalpost. Let’s put that duct tape around him. Hey, time for a little rookie hazing. There’s no way we’re going to haze you.” So now he gets So now he gets to the point where he goes, “Oh yeah, no, I don’t.” Hey, Will Leves has been I love how the reporter put it to it. It made it sound like he was assassinated now that he’s been kind of subtracted from the quarterback room. Like what? Now that he’s been kind of Is this Squid Games in in Nashville? What are we doing now? Now that he’s been kind of subtracted from the quarterback room. Will Levis is no longer with us. I had no reaction because Cam Ward is the only thing about Cam Ward. Go Titans. Oh my gosh. So there you go. I love it. camword.com. Don Hulker, this was a tough one. Former Lehigh Football standout, former BYU Cougar, former Colorado State Ram. Don Hulker, I think we all looked at and said, “Man, that guy’s going to have a future, announces his retirement.” JJ, that’s tough to hear. You You always hate to see guys’ careers ended before they’re ready, before it’s something that they’re able to do. And and it’s just it’s a bummer cuz it’s a super talented guy. And uh and I know it didn’t work out with BYU, but man, I that guy had a phenomenal senior season at Colorado State and you get to the league and you have all these high hopes and that’s a tough one. So there you go. Is it an injury situation then? I’m he didn’t confirm that in the statement. Uh he said after a lot of prayer and conversations with my family and representatives, I’ve decided to retire from football. And he went on to thank the Saints, Colorado State, BYU, and Lehigh High School for believing in me and giving me a chance. So, I don’t know specifically what the reason is other than what he stated, but um I imagine, you know, you assume it’s some type of injury that’s just not taking care of itself. So, it happens all the time. It’s football’s a brutal game and it’s tough to stick it out. And for him to make it to the NFL is a tremendous accomplishment. So, uh, wish him the best in retirement. All right. Uh, let’s take a quick break. We’ll come back. We’ve got more to go around the corner. We got our best and worst next. You don’t want to miss it. Did I miss anything that I wanted to bring up in the or that you wanted to bring up? Oh, no. I did have a local one that we wanted to bring up. Julian. Oh, yeah. Let’s Yeah, we do. Julian Black Julian Blackman, formerly of the Colts, former Utah fame, of course, is going to be uh he’s going to be down uh in in uh sorry, he’s going to be a saint because uh because of the Honeybadgers retirement uh replacing Tyron Matthew with the New Orleans Saints. So, Julian Blackman has a new NFL home. After five years with the Colts, he is now a member of the New Orleans Saints. Good for him. It’s a great It’s it should be a great situation for him. I unfortunately I don’t think the Saints are going to be very good this year, but he should he will likely start for them. Well, uh I’m hoping that he has uh even more career ahead of him and uh that’s going to be that’s going to be good. I like it. All right, there you go. Kind of a little bit of a locals in the NFL situation right there, JJ. Yeah, a lot of guys in the news. That was fun. Okay, we’ll take the break. We’ve got our best and worst next. Don’t miss it. 975 KSL Sports Zone. Wrapping up the hour with our picks for the best and worst moments on today’s show as JJ and Alex want to hear your best and worst of the day. We like we actually we all kind of uh pull our resources uh firework wise in the neighborhood and we save them for we save them for for then. We save them for tomorrow. The big show is on the 25th because what happens is or 25th. Well, the the fourth is funny because other people in the neighborhood go bonkers and you don’t want to compete and they’re like, “Hey, you guys have your day.” Now, I am interested to see what the 25th is going to bring because the 24th there’ll be fireworks and then we’re like, “Anyway, having another one the day after.” Parties are going to be on the 25th. For some reason, people have to do it on Friday. It’s legal. Yeah. So, but I just wondered. Okay. Gear up for that, folks. Hey, the uh this portion of the show, your best and worst, brought to you by your Doug Smith family of dealerships in American Fork, Spanish Fork, and in Lynon. Check it out today. Nobody knows cars like Doug. The best is Did you see this, by the way? Go over to kslports.com if you missed it. Go check out Lowry Markin. Yes, that Lowry Markin. I would assume that I mean, he’s finished. I’m assuming that hockey was his first love because when he was six, he wasn’t seven feet tall, right? They probably forced him into into playing some hockey. And you know what? Lived up to his name. Uh, and if you go check out Cole Bagley’s uh, story on it, he calls it perhaps the greatest crossover of Larry Markin’s career taking place. The Jazz star strapped on his goalie gear and his skates in a recent Instagram video. If you have not seen it, first of all, the post is in all Finnish, um, which is not a romance language. Good luck, uh, deciphering what that says. just hit the old translate button on uh on on Instagram, otherwise it’s going to be tough. But first of all, he’s like diving around like crazy. He looked awesome. And by the way, goalies are tall. I know it’s like a I know it’s thing where guys are some of the best goalies in the league are in that 64 65 range. To see him stand up with his with his pads on at 7 feet is at 7 foot one is crazy. And by the way, he looks absolutely comfortable in all that gear. So Matt Sogard is the tallest goalkeeper in hockey. Goalender. How tall? 68. Six foot eight. Yeah. See, and Larry Markin’s got six inches on that. And he’s he’s Danish actually. So Oh, really? Yeah. Scandinavian still though. So there you go. You’re a geography guy. You already knew that. I happen to be Danish. So yes, I do. So Danish. Oh, have you ever had a Danish? Have you had a Danish? H uh the worst is now I found this one today. Pour some Mormon gravy on that Danish. Mormon gravy. Why on earth is that a pioneer? It has meat dripping. If you don’t make If you don’t make meat dripping, if you don’t make Mormon gravy tomorrow for your biscuits and gravy, I’m going be disappointed. With the holidays coming up soon, you’ve got to try. Come on. Quit it. Quit some meat drippings. It’s how you make gravy, JJ. Come on, man. in 1847. Yeah, that’s exact. Well, so we should still do it now. Even now, little bit of fat. Dip your hard tack into some Mormon gravy. Look, the hard tack is definitely not one I want, but yeah, you got it. You imagine eating a inch thick saltine. That’s a That’s hard. Yeah, they didn’t have great dentist back then either. The valley wasn’t replete with dentists like it is now. Lot lot of English settled the valley. All right, this one was a tough one. Tastes great. I want a cracker. Have you Okay, I’m gonna make you click on this story, JJ, because it was it’s kind of an interesting video that happened because in Gloucester County, uh they’ve got a this is out east in New Jersey. Hadenfield is sending a little league team to the uh to the Little League World Series. U and it was after they won the state championship. Now, here’s the thing. Marco Rocco, most like New Jersey name ever, Marco Roco has been suspended by his little league association because of a bat flip and they were able to. Now, they still won the state championship that he wasn’t able to be a part of, but he’s their he’s their big hitter and they showed and what they did was and this kid was not they did not allow him to play in the state championship game. Now, they won it and they’re going on to the World. thrown out of the Little League World Series. But now the association is still wondering if they’re going to make him serve out his suspension as they get to the Little League World Series. No way. As they’re trying to Marco Roco and from the Little League World Series flip as they clean up the game. Now they did a over an up like an over top. They overlaid two videos. one of the Little League World Series last year where one of these kids who doesn’t look like he’s 12 hits a bomb of a home run and throws the bat like as far in the air as you could and basically showed him do the same thing and the thing is is that the little league association that they’re a part of their New Jersey like we’re trying to crack down on this stuff and they aren’t they might make him miss a f the first couple games in Williamsport that’s awful for the bat flip broco gets dingers Marco Roco his Add Joe Roco. Oh yeah. Added that the umpire. Does he run a trash service? Of some sort. Yeah. You want to stay away from that guy. Not messing with the Rockos. By the way, if you’re the umpire, you’re shaking in your freaking boots. Gosh, his name. That umpire deemed the celebration a safety concern. And I disagree. Yeah. Yeah. You know, buddy. And I happen to disagree. Just like my fist might disagree with his team. Nobody disrespects a Rocco. Nobody. Do you feel like Joe Roco and Marco Roco are the Costco guys? There’s no doubt. Boom. That bat flip gets three big booms. My favorite My favorite moment of the booms by those guys. We’re sorry to hear about the passing of your uncle. Four big booms. Boom. Boom. They g It was five. Sorry. Big booms for a big booms for your dead uncle boom. Like they did it all sad. Oh my goodness. Okay. Oh, Joe Rocco. Joe Rocco and and Marco Roco. There Joe’s got to be upset. Mhm. There you go.
