I can only go to one city and it’s one of these three cities. Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio. Which one are you telling them? I know. I know the most things in Dallas to do. Like I could I could I could point them to the right things. I think the answer is probably Austin, though. I That’s why I just said these three. My answer is why? I mean, what circumstances leave you only going to one city? What about that? Like crystal blue, white sand, Galveston. You can’t pass. None of those adjectives you use describe Galveastston in any way. Yeah, I’m trying to think of the answer to that question. I would not tell you under no circumstances would I tell you Houston. So, it’s between San Antonio and Dallas and it’s big Riverwalk guy. Honestly, San Antonio might because you’re getting like I feel like the most Texas feel if you just want for a day. Great text. The Alamo San Antonio. Yeah. Like you know the reward. Which is better, the Alamo or the X’s on the street? I always think like why would the tourists come to Dallas? I just don’t I I’ve lived in the city my whole life and I just whenever I hear of people visiting Dallas, I’m just like what? Okay, you get outside of work. You’ve got De Plaza, JFK. Huge. Of course. Of course. I love that Nick. I’m going to make the case here. You’ve got sports, you got Cowboys, Rangers, you got all those. But why would you care if you’re Oh, and now now you’re going to get that Universal Park in Frisco for your for little kids. Oh, yeah. That’s cool. So, you got Six Flags, too. Like, you got you got there’s just a bunch of stuff you can do at once, dude. Perfect new headquarters, dude. Perfect headquarters. You can just go drive by it and see. Maybe they’re out there. Honestly, I will say this. I have taken some friends for like the Cowboys Stadium tour because Cowboys Arena is so like massive and like spaceshippy. It’s blowing their minds like they’ve enjoyed that. I, you know, I went to Texas Tech and you meet people who are like, “Yeah, I live in a town of 150 people and it’s like, all right, I could see down.” Don’t be trying to get my accent going here. As as much as we like locals may not care for the Texas State Fair that much, it is also still like a spectacle. That’s a good point. That’s a good point. I’m out. That’s gonna be my takeoff for takeoff Thursday. If you’ve been there, like if you’ve never been there, it is worth going at least once to see how crazy it is. Living here your whole life makes you look at things differently, I guess, would be it. If you can’t tell, this is going to be a loose show. There’s so many people. Today’s episode, we’re going to get into a fantasy draft. We’re going to go through and we’re going to draft the team from the teams in Texas. The idea is we want to see who’s the best team in Texas, who the best players in Texas. Uh between the Mavs, the the Rockets, and the Spurs, they’re all going to be pretty good next year. They all have all-star level players. They all have like legendary type players. They all have young talents. They all they all have all these pieces right now. And so, we’re going to go through just like we did last week when we did these these drafts is we’re going to go through and we’re going to pick a starting five. Each one fantasy draft Friday, baby. Fantasy draft Friday. We’re going to draft the starting five and the idea is that you’re playing just next year with the intention of playing a playoff series. So Kyrie will be coming off the ACL. We can draft him, but you’re you have put Jeff Green on this list. Yeah, that he’s on the Rockets. I know who I’m taking first. He’s on the Rockets. I put all the players on the Fet leadership. I took off the two-way guys, but uh I rolled dice and Isaac is going first slightly and then myself. So Isaac, you get the first pick in the Texas fantasy draft. Who are you taking? Oh. Uh, I’ll take Wimby. Oh, damn it. Victor Romanyama goes first. Is he the best? He’s the best player in Texas right now, like even going into next season. I mean, yeah. I mean, I think it’s in between him and AD. And I just I get that Wimby had his own health scare at the end of last season. But I think the fact you got to factor in some injury stuff with AD and Wim taking another step, man. Like I just I mean I Yeah. I just He’s an alien and I just when I watch him play and if I had a chance to have him I would just be I would feel stupid if I’m like oh I passed up this guy. Yeah. Wim is the easy choice of one. Especially too from a team building perspective. There’s no there’s no like you could you could get another center next to him and it would make sense or you could not get another center. He’s also on the he’s also on the way up and AD is is would technically be on on the way down in his career. Um yeah and I mean I just think both of them at their peak of powers I think Wimy’s peak is just higher right now which is wild to say because Anthony Davis is like we talked about it when he got traded is a top 10 like a top 10 player when he’s playing healthy and well. I agree but I I think if if Wim is at the peak of his powers you’re talking like a top six or seven player. So, well, peak of his powers, I would say maybe even higher than that. What’s what’s the high I’d say best player in the world? I say what’s the highest we Well, maybe. Yeah. Can he get there next year? Top three I think could happen next year. Like Jokic, SGA, and Wemby talking about that as the group. It’s the health and the and it’s the shooting too. I would take his outside shooting and stuff over AD right now. But AD would be like a close second for me. So, I looked it up because I was, you know, I don’t I was just like, where do where’s the consensus on these guys? And I looked at the Ringer top 100 list. They have Wimi 11, AD13, and KD14. So, I mean, they have them. Wow. Like neck and neck and neck. Yeah. I wonder where he’s going to be in the locked on. Say the locked on top 100. I bet it’s going to be the same. And I bet WBY will definitely be above Anthony Davis in that one for sure if I had to guess what all the locked on hosts think. But I mean, do you guys remember the the defensive player of the year odds before he went down for the year? That was crazy. Oh, we we were looking up for the show for the show yesterday about flag potentially being top 50. We were like, who’s the last rookie to get all defense? And it was Webby. Webby, Tim Duncan, and David Robinson are the last three to get all defense in their rookie year. Like that, first of all, that’s that’s insane. But I mean, WBY was is is a impact player defensively already at like top 10 defensive player his rookie year. And then last year he was going to run away with it. Okay. So I’m up. Slightly is up. You get the next pick. Victor Ramyama’s off the board and you get your first guy. So I was hoping Isaac would just do the AD thing and then I could just take Wimi. But I I’ll say there’s, you know, I’ll walk through my thought process a little bit because I do think AD is better than KD. No. But there is like a team building thing where it’s like, okay, just give me KD and I could have like different ways to build around him because the culture he sets, right? because the culture I will take Anthony Davis though just because I do think he’s better and it’s a similar to Wimi thing. It’s a similar to Wimy thing where it’s like I know pretty much right off the rip I’m getting a great defensive team. Yeah. Yeah. You that you’ve got a baseline like you’ve got a you’ve got a a floor basically and you know and you I think the team building thing around and AD like AD is not a guy that’s hard to build a team around. He could be he could play a center. He’s obviously wants to play the four. You can play him in some some different things. Well, if if you could just say we’re putting you at the five. He’s incredibly easy to build around. If you want to do the like, okay, we’ll play you at the four. That’s when it starts to get a little difficult. Now you have to take Adams. Yeah. Yeah. Right though. Wait, what? I’m actually Okay, never mind. Never mind. Nick, who are you taking? Okay, now I’m up. I’ve got the choice. My thought process Kevin Rant’s super obvious and that’s probably where I’m gonna go. But you the other options are Shenon, Kyrie Irving, Cooper Flag, Ammon Thompson probably, but then Jason take Shenun was a was a was a all-star last year. That’s true. Cornet’s there. Cornet is available. You can go you could go with Cornet, but obviously I’m going to go with Kevin Durant. I’m going to go with the shooting. I still think he’s got a lot. He He played really well last year. Yeah, he did. Yeah. I mean, that’s why I’m so high on Houston this year. How high are you on Houston? Like how good can Houston be next year? Are you talking to me or anybody? Well, you specifically you specifically said it, so Oh, sorry. No, I’m pretty high. Yeah, I mean I I personally like them better than Denver. Um I just I’m but it’s a combination of stuff for me. I like some of their young guys. I like them taking another step forward. um just swapping out Jaylen Green for Kevin Durant just in that swap for especially end of games and having just having that guy in the room a go-to guy in the in the clutch moments and stuff. I’m really high on Eay. I think he’s one of the best coaches in the league. So, I mean the my only thing is the they’re betting a lot on Reed Shepard I think for that just secondary ball handler type of role and they just keep loading up on wings and stuff which I mean cool it’s fine. Uh, but if like they’re like a Van Vleet twisted ankle away from Reed logging, you know, 35 minutes a game. So, I like Aman Thompson and stuff a lot. So, I just really like their team. I think they could I think Denver might have a better record, but I think Houston for me is more scary in the playoffs. Yeah, it’s an it’s an interesting team that Houston Rockets team. They’re they’re going for it. I think they’re the best team in Texas on paper pretty comfortably. Yeah, on paper on with Kyrie out for sure. If Kyrie was playing, I think we’d have a different conversation. I think the interesting thing about this though is I think you could make arguments and like I think for the Spurs there’s probably a fringe argument, but you can make arguments for I think I three of the either of these teams to be the best team in Texas by the end of the year. Like I think there’s scenarios for all three of them where it’s like Wimby is the top three player and Fox is healthy and they look good. Like you forget Fox is on the team. I know. And like I really I saw Fox’s name pop up when you brought that I was like, I would have not even brought this shock to being on the Spurs. Dang it, Nick. I should take the list off. What are the odd like I wonder what the odds would be for all three of them to make the top six. Oh, they should have like a They should have like a They should have a Texas triangle like FanDuel. I picked Kevin Durant. And now we’re doing snake style, which is what we’ve been doing for these. And so I’m going to go I’m going to go Pressure’s on. I’m gonna I’m gonna go Cooper flag with my Oh, whoa. I just think that Homer building my options are were going to be Shenun, Kyrie, who’s coming off the ACL, so you only get limited amount of time with him. And I just think a center like Shenun, it’s so hard to build a team that’s going to win at a high level around a Shangon, the way that he struggles defending the rim, the way that he the way that he moves. I think that you have to have that like you saw with the Rockets in the playoffs, they had to play Steven Adams next to him because you had to be able to survive out there. And so I would have to get a center. Then all of a sudden I’m moving Katie down to the three then. So I just think the Cooper flag adds some versatility to where I can go anywhere with these next three picks that I have. Yeah. Interesting. That’s a good pick. Yeah, I like that. And I think Flag’s going to be good right away. I’m just giving you a heck. I had him high on my list, too. Did you have any Amen Thompson consideration? I thought about it for sure. He could he could take a leap this year and all of a sudden we’re going, “Oh, dang. He’s like all NBA type player, right?” And I think the Rockets are banking on that because Isaac, you mentioned Reed Shepard. I think they’re just going to put the ball in a man Thompson’s hands a lot next year. Good. I love Thompson. Yeah. So that’s my pick. I got Kevin Durant Cooper flag on my team. Oh, actually, no. Thompson’s he’s he sucks. [Laughter] You want him? Well, I’m going tell you right now, and I’m gonna vamp a little bit. Amin Thompson is not on my short list currently. Wow. Well, that goes back to my my team that goes back to my team building thing where it’s just I want to have a shooters thanks to AD now where why I considered KD was like I I have a shooter. Clay is there. Clay is there. I mean my two short list options right now are Kyrie and I just take the risk and hope I stay afloat until he comes back or Shaneon and then I go double big and that’s what we’re banking on. Double big. I’ve heard that before. I’ve heard that’s going to work this year. I know. So, I mean, for both I think for both Mavs and Rocket Stake, they hope something like that works well long term. Oh, man. I just can’t If I don’t take Kyrie, who who is going to be my guard? Well, you know, Isaac’s not going to. Well, he may with his second. I mean, Kyrie could come back around to you in the next round. Also, don’t don’t hold your breath that Kyrie’s going to come back for the playoffs slightly. True. I’m sorry, though. I’d rather take that risk because I just Shangon to AD. I don’t know. So, I I’d take Kyrie here and I would hold my breath. Well, because I I think he’s I think he’s a better player than Shenun. I’m just going to be honest. I think he’s a better player than Shangun. Kyrie. Oh, yeah. And I just for Shenun and AD now all of a sudden I’m pigeonholed into everybody else on the team has to play a very specific way where it’s like if Isaac took Kyrie, I mean Fox doesn’t even really work with that duo in my opinion. I we were setting up for a great moment because I was just gonna take Kyrie as soon as it got to me. That’s what I figured. That’s I figured because I was like and then but then at that point I might as well take him in. We’ll just have no shooters. And I wasn’t going to do the Brooklyn Nets run it back thing with KD and Kyrie. But yeah, interesting. Who’s the best number two in Texas? I mean Kyrie would be the best number two for sure if he was healthy, right? But like next season you’re looking at your number two being Cooper Flag, probably Shingun, and then Fox or Amen. Or Amen. could be. Yeah. Do you think there’s a chance Aman’s better than Shangun next year? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, no. I think I think Fox is number two. Like Yeah. If healthy. Yeah. Fox is good. Like I feel like we’re kind of just I mean I forget about him all the time but just had a weird year and he was on the Kings. True. All right. You got two picks, Isaac. Yeah. Give me all I’m in. Uh and yeah, just for this and just for um Man, this one this one’s kind of tough for me. Do I want to pair lively with women? That’d be fun. Um, is it too hot for DLO? Um, hey, he did put you in his documentary. You probably owe him. Did you Did you give him a draft promise? Did you pick one? U, no. Give me give me Shingun. Okay. What do you think about the pairing of of Wemanyama and Shenun? I actually like it a lot. Um, that’s why I feel like, yeah, I want to see Shingun against I mean, there they obviously had some moments with him and Adams last year and there’s some, you know, stats and stuff with that, but I’m not in love with I mean, I think the fit I think it maximizes Shingun and I I like his shooting next to Wimi and stuff and Wimby makes up for some of his defense. I don’t like some of, you know, Shenun’s um defensive stuff, but I kind of like that pairing together. The Wembby Amen combo that you just put together is nasty to that is nasty. San Antonio’s like we got our own version with Carter Bryant. I mean maybe maybe got one at home. He shoots just as well as Amend does. Yeah. What was Shingun’s like three-point shooting last year? Is it I think it was in the 20s. I don’t think Shingun is that great of a shooter. Was it? I remember he shot him. He I mean he at least shot him. He at least shot him. 23. 23. Wow. I didn’t think it was that bad. All right, let me take that pick back. No, too late. I still think that’s fine, though. No, it’s fine. I’ll keep it. It’s in the Google spreadsheet of science. There you go. So, I now I now think we have entered a tier gap where now you’re fully in on role players pretty much. I don’t know. I think Fox is still Fox. Oh, yeah. God. Sorry, Darren. How many times are you going to forget about him this show? This is like the third time. I’ll tell you right now, Nick’s getting Darren Fox because I’m just with my current team. I I didn’t want to put him with a men. There’s just something about that it’s kind of weird for me. That’s a lot. And I just don’t Kyrie and Fox backhard. I mean, it could it could work, I guess. But I I’m going with a guy who just got paid because I think he fits what I have going on here to a tea, actually. And I’m going to take Jabari. Oh, that’s good. And I I feel like I could put Jabari at my four and I got AD at the five currently. That’s fun. Some shooting. Jabari Smith Junior. All right. Is AD willing? I got two. I don’t care. I’m the GM of this team. I got two picks. I’m obviously going Darren Fox with one of my picks. So now I have Durant Cooper flag Darren Fox. And now I can go in kind of any direction that I want. Reed Shepard’s there. Got two wings. I’m gonna go with our boy Derek Lively. D. Do you say DLo? Dive. Dive. Dive. Dive. I’m go with Derek Lively because I yesterday um or two days ago I said I made the case that David Lock should go by DL. Yeah, that’s a I mean DLO is a pretty sick like play on your name. Well, the DLO thing started because he called himself he kept saying loading. That was like his phrase in the draft and then it became D loading is his Twitter name I guess. Yeah, pretty I mean that was like a I thought that was a pretty cool phrase coming out cuz but did he ever load? Like did we ever I mean well that became the joke was it was like lo I think that’s still his Twitter handle. I don’t know but that was the joke for a while. I was just like still loading. Man, this one’s actually hard now. I’m not going to lie. Coming up, Slightly’s got his next pick. We’ve got Isaac’s team as Victor Romanyama, Aman Thompson, Alfred Shenun. Slightly team has Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Jabari Smith Jr. My team is Kevin Durant, Cooper Flag, Darren Fox, Derek Lively, and now Slightly has his next pick. So, if you didn’t take dive, I would have had a diff difficult decision to make because I I think he’s probably the next best player. Who? Dive. Oh, dive. DLO. DGAF. Unless I’m missing somebody here. I’m going take this guy. He He fits my defensive identity. I like him as a backcourt mate with Kyrie. Just won rookie of the year. I think I’m going to take Castle here. Dang it. wondering I was debating on him because I you know the shooting I guess is a bit of a concern but if I just look at his March onward which is always risky but March onward once Fox was out for the season and Wimy’s out and he just got full reigns and the efficiency numbers were pretty rough but for a rookie guard did some impressive stuff and then I just get a dog defensively I’ll take that for what what’s on the table my dog’s at can guard up Yeah, he can. Yeah, I like that pick a lot. Him and Kyrie together would be a lot of fun. Yeah. All right. Um, I’ll take um I might surprise you. Give me Clay. Oh, wow. I just I just really need a shooter here. Yeah. Really badly. Um, so give me Clay with that. And then my last pick. Man, I went back and forth on this. I love I love Tari Een, but I don’t think he can fit for me here. Um because I have Yeah, it basically comes down do I run do I want to run Amen at the one or no? Um gosh, this is tough. Just go ahead and give me PJ at the three. Oh, he took two Mavs role players. Yeah, it basically came down to PJ and Vel for me. But yeah, this starts our question though. Do the Mavs have the best role players in Texas. I think they’re the deepest team in Texas. Well, I don’t know. The Rockets are pretty damn deep. Rockets got a lot of dudes. We still haven’t picked Van Vleet. We still haven’t picked Dorian. We haven’t se Dorian. We haven’t picked Stephen Adams. Oh man, I gotta say Fred Fred’s not on the list. Oh, no. He is. I just I missed say he’s he definitely is. I honestly forgot about Fred, but Oh, man. This is tough for me because there’s a couple guys that I think I’ll be pretty shocked that they’re not going to get drafted, but I don’t think they’re going to get drafted. Um, yeah, I’m going to take Tar Een. Close on my team. Over over Dorian. Over. Yeah, I’m gonna take him over Dorian because I have Jabari playing my four and I think Taran can play the three for me and uh I just I think he’s great and I think I Tyson’s better than Dorian. Yeah. No, I think pretty easily. All right, so I’m gonna I’m gonna go through mine and I’m going to pick Van Vleet. Two two guards. I’m gonna go with Fox and Ben Vleet. I think you can I think you could hold up defensively with those guys, especially with Lively and Flag KD. I needed another shooter. So Dylan Harper goes undrafted in this I think that’s fine. Yeah. Well, I I think it’s we haven’t seen him play with another another guard, too. And that’s that’s a little And with this draft, I mean, you have Kyrie, you have Dear Fox. Fox isn’t like a a good a great outside shooter. So, neither neither’s Amen. So, what it’s kind of hard to I don’t know. Yeah, it’s difficult for the guards once you already have two guards who are for sure going ahead of him. Like I debated on him in the clay spot, but I just ultimately I went with Amen earlier and I just need a I need shooting and I don’t I don’t know how if Harper’s like knock down shooter right now initially. Yeah, especially for going next year. Next year only. I’ll tell you the guy debated on more than Harper was Vel. Yeah. Yeah. He was what 37 38% from three last year. And I like his defense. I almost took him over PJ, but my heart just picked PJ. If anybody out there follows me at all, they know they’re probably shocked that I didn’t take Vac, but I’m I’m kind of off the train to be honest. I’m kind of surprised Nick didn’t take Vel. I thought about it. I just think Fred’s better and I think that I like needed one more like shooter guy that can get hot and can also run a pick and roll a little bit. Wait, slightly. You’re off as hell now. I just I think I I think I picked him two years in a row to win most improved player. So for me I’m just kind of like one he struggles to stay on the floor and two just want to see more. It’s just the Flashes haven’t been consistent enough at this point. Yeah. Oh, so we are we pitching our team? We’re pitching our tents. These are our teams. All right, I’ll go cuz Nick just sweat. All right. So, I got AD at my five. I don’t care if he wants to play it or not. Doesn’t matter to me. This is a one-year only thing. Save your trade requests. I’m not I’m not honoring it. Uh Kyrie, when he comes back, hopefully he’s good because I’m a really neat. I’m looking at my team for the shot creation. And then I’ve got Jabari Smith Jr. at my four. So, we’ve got a lot of size in my front court. We’re great defensively. I got shooting there with Jabari. Castle can guard up. And I think Castle’s like when we talked about Drew and like why it was a little tantalizing to go after Drew because it is a really interesting backcourt pairing with Kyrie. Castle sort of gives me something very similar to that. And then E is just E’s one of the most underrated underappreciated players in the league. Dirty dirty work do it all guy. You’ve got such a switchable defensive team. Yeah, that’s going and Kyrie power forward Kyrie. He wants to be 04. I’m trying to find like the weakness for your team. I think it’d be creation. Yeah. And then I think shooting like you know Tari Steph and Castle Castle 80. You’re basically just running Kyrie 80 pick and rolls like all game. Yeah. I mean Stefon Castle and East I think could do inchar even at times but it’s not consistent. Well, you definitely don’t want Castle out on the wing shooting three. Yeah. size outside of AD. Jabari is 6’10. Like he’s tall. He’s a big He’s not I mean not Shenon, but yeah. I’m not a traditionally big team. No. Um yeah, I mean everything starts and ends with Wimi for me. I got the best player in Texas, so um kind of evolves around him. I think you can play a two-man game with Wimi and Shingun. Uh Shingun is such a good passer and just nifty guy that just their two-man game together would be a lot of fun. And I think defensively the combo of Wimi and Amen would just be nasty. You got to, you know, the guy that’s going to spread the floor and Clay. PJ can play your three and D role like he’s been playing in Dallas and stuff, too. So, you have those two guys on the wings and um, you know, the creation spot’s probably one of my worries about it because you’re kind of asking a lot from there to run some pick and rolls and we know in Dallas it’s not ideal when you’re asking Clay and PJ to be your creators. Uh, so you’re what you’re putting the ball in WBY’s hands a lot though. I mean, yeah. I mean, yeah, you could play uh, you know, put Shenun down on the post and put the other guys kind of out on the wing or I’m in, you know, cutting to the basket or whatever. So, I mean, I think anytime you have Victor on your team, you feel pretty good. But I I’m also expecting in this uh, draft here Amen to take another step. I I really like Aman a lot. Yeah, you the the Victor Webmanyama Shenun like 54 pick and rolls or the four five pick and rolls would be nasty where Webyama like Shenun rolls off a screen and Webyama doesn’t have to pass it. He just reaches over the top of a defender and hands the ball to Shingun on the roll. Like yeah, I don’t I don’t fully know how to feel like long term about Shenun. you know, he’s allstar last year, but then at times I just watch I’m like, all right, it’s kind kind of underwhelming, but then another night he put up massive numbers or he check a box score, it’s like, dang, he had another pretty solid double double and he is pretty crafty around the basket and stuff. I just don’t have a firm opinion on him. So, it was more about like, oh, he’s there in round three of this draft. I feel like I had to take him. He he is the most confusing player in the NBA to me because like you said, you’d watch like that series against the Warriors and it’s late game and he’s trying to post up Draymond from the free throw line just throwing jump hooks from 15 feet away from the basket and you’re like this is the worst player in the NBA. I mean, this is the worst player I’ve ever seen. It’s not December Westbrook, but yeah, but then it’s just like he’s obviously very impactful and then it is you look at the box score after the game and it’s like my god, he had 26 and 12 and nine What are those guys? Yeah, my team. I’ve got the most creation on this. I’ve got Fred Manley and Fox. Also, Cooper Flag and Durant and Lively off of short roll that can do I can do all kinds of different stuff playmaking. Defensively, we got Flag, Lively, Fox, if he can bounce back a little bit. And then Fred Vanble has always just held his own even as a smaller guard. Durant has was pretty good defensively last year on a terrible on a terrible on terrible Suns team. Um, and I think the vibes between Durant, like I think Flag and Lively will help Kevin Durant’s vibes. I think I think he’d like playing with them. Yeah, I think you are asking a lot defensively between the three of Fox, Van Vleet, and KD. You’re asking a lot of Cooper and Dav to hold it down for sure. I think they’re that good though. But yeah, it’s really interesting how different all three of these teams are. Yeah, you you could play in the like the NBA right now. You could play a ton of different styles and be successful. It’s cool. Like all three teams are so wildly different. They are. Let us know in the comments who would win in a playoff series. Yeah.
