Perk wants the Knicks to give KAT an extension with 3 years left on his current deal | NBA Today
Several other stars are extension eligible this off season, including a pair of key Nick Knicks. Male Bridges is eligible for a 4-year 156 million extension. Just one year left on that deal. And Cat has a couple years left, but he can extend for another three years if he declines that player option. So, let’s stick with the New York Knicks because my friend Tim here covers them heavily. The Knicks made some really aggressive moves. They got Cat, they got Bridges, but are they going to pony up the cash to keep them around? We’ll see what happens with the Knicks this summer. They’re in an interesting spot as you mentioned. Male Bridges, one year left on his deal for about $24 million to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. I think there’s more urgency to try to get something done with him because of the fact that he will be a free agent next summer where there is a lot of cap space around the league and there are not a lot of guys to spend it on. Male Bridges, while he might not necessarily be worth the several draft picks the Knicks gave up for him, is a guy on the wing who’s a three and D player on the wing. Every team in the league is looking for that. You can plug and play him in all sorts of situations. So, I think getting something done with him will be good for the Knicks if they can to try to lock him in long term. The Carl Town situation is interesting. As you said, he’s got he could assign a three-year extension potentially this summer. He’s got two years left plus a player option for 61 million. A little less of a need to get something done right away, but the Knicks obviously like their group together. They’re trying to build forward in the East and with all the injuries that have happened, it’s really the Knicks and the Cavs and everybody else out in the Eastern Conference. 100%. DDJ, let’s get to you because this version of the Knicks are tied with the Cavs as he was alluding to for the best odds to win the Eastern Conference. Is this the core that can get the Knicks over the hump? It’s got to be. I mean, this this needs to be the core that gets them there this year. I mean, this this has laid out for them perfectly. There’s no Celtics. There’s no Tatum. There’s no Hallebertton. There’s no Pacers. Giannis and the Bucks are probably not going to be factors. It’s really this team and the Cleveland Cavaliers. And if you’re the Knicks, you say, “Hey, the Cavaliers have not gotten to that Eastern Conference Finals. They have not shown themselves in the playoffs. We made the conference finals last year. We have a core. We got the coach that we asked for. We wanted to get rid of Tib. We have uh Brunson. We have Cat. We have another year of them together. We better get to the finals because it is laid out perfectly for us to have this first chance to do this this century. So, this core needs to be the one that gets them there.” I agree. And it needs to be on the back of Jaylen Brunson and Carl Anthony Towns is why the Knicks should lock in and focus on extending Carl Anthony Towns. That’s the that’s the best Cole Anthony Towns is the best big man they’ve had since Patrick Yuan, right? He’s still a top five big in the NBA right now. Like all NBA last year, Allstar last year. And although he had trouble defensively against the Pacers, he still put up some great numbers in the Eastern Conference Finals. So when you look at what they could do together, right, they have a year under their belt. Last year they were one of the best pick and roll duos in the NBA. You lock in Carl Anthony Towns. I don’t give a damn what nobody say. Muel Bridges Kuwait. You go ahead and lock in one of those guys. You got Jaylen Brunson. You lock them in last summer and then you continue to build off of that. Everybody else around those two except for the exception of OG and Anobi are auditioning, right? Mikuel Bridges, he got to come with it and come better. Obviously, him and Tom Tibido didn’t see eye to eye. We saw some of the statements, some of the meetings that they had last postseason. Now, you got a new coach in Mike Brown. Let’s see what you bring to the table on a consistent basis. I don’t know if our crack producers can pull back up the numbers on the uh the odds to win the Eastern Conference on the screen that they showed before. But with the Boston Celtics having Jason Tatum out for the year, with the Indiana Pacers having Tyrese Halbert out for the year and losing Miles Turner in free agency, you had the third and fourth odds last year. As you see right here, thanks to our producers, the Orlando Magic, who have not won a playoff series since 2010 when Dwight Howard lost to Perk in the Celtics in the conference finals in game six, which I was at. And that’s Well, listen, I was there for it. It was a great game. And the fourth the fourth favorite are the Atlanta Hawks who did not make the playoffs. Yeah, it’s wide open. It it’s not wide open. It’s those two teams at the top. They are way ahead of the field, right? For both the Knicks and the Cavs. This is this is the opportunity they have to take advantage of. Both these teams have young cores that they put together that they thought had long runways. They did not think the runway was going to get this clear this fast with the Celtics being out of the way and with the Pacers being out of the way because of injuries. For both the Knicks and the Cavs, as I believe David said earlier, the urgency is now to get to the to the NBA finals and give yourself a chance to win a championship because these opportunities do not come along very often. You’re never going to have a better chance and they both do this year. Yep. Great stuff. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]

Perk wants the Knicks to give KAT an extension with 3 years left on his current deal
KAT- Nahh for surrrrreeπ π π π π
Hell no!
Knicks better pay them boys fr. You made the ECF this past post-season, run it back because the east is up for grabs rn.
No he may get Traded
KAT IS WORTH IT
Haters don't know how valuable he is.
Look at how well the Pacers improved with Siakam just because they ran it back for a 2nd season.
This Knicks team just needa run it back.
People saying trade Kat for Giannis are trippin.
Giannis NEEDS a shooting big like Kat. Only players Knicks can offer for a Giannis is probably OG and Mitch.
Knicks don't even NEED Giannis imo, it's just extra to get him.
KAT & jokic making the same money is a little funny
KAT is a top 5 Center in the league, All NBA calibre player, without him they weren't gonna make the ECF
Trade Kat for LeBron, Bronny, an Knect
Hey Perk would throw in a no trade because he's a capologist.
I will never understand why ESPN thinks KENDRICK PERKINS is deserving of a national audience, let alone as one of their top 'analysts'. He has repeatedly demonstrated a misunderstanding of the game both on the court and in the front office. KAT is likely sooner traded than extended, and both are longshots. You have 3 years of a window, maybe they should consider building around their stars before extending one. Why in God's name would extending KAT be anywhere close to a priority right now?
This first analyst looks like a young young David Chase
No videos on LeInjection?
The disrespect on Detroit is crazy ! They will definitely be in it. And they're close to how the Knicks play.
En hindsight Knicks shoulda kept the squad with Julius Randle & Donte ef Boston & Indiana woulda knocked them selves out anyway
Yeah dont worry about mitch or mikal(1 year left apiece) let's worry about the guy who's got 2 years + a player option he'd be a fool not to pick up. Oh perk π π
Trust me when I tell you, there is NO urgency to re-sign a non-all star or non-all nba player after trading 5 first round picks for him and finding out quickly he wasn't worth it.
None.
200mil for 3 yrs for KAT???…gtfoh..hell no
Big Perk strikes again. Kat the best center the Ks have had since Ewing? A top-five big? Put up great numbers?
First, what our "expert" doesn't seem to understand is that Kat is not a 5. If Kat is your last line of defense–you lose. This is why the Wolves traded half the state of Minn for Rudy Goldfish, because they understood what Perk doesn't–that you can't win with Kat at the 5.
Which was confirmed in the playoffs last season. The Knick starters got crucified IN EVERY SERIES last season. The reason they advanced as far as they did is because they did indeed have a top-five center, and his name was Robinson. Robinson was the best Knick player in playoffs last year.
I'm a senior, and am a life-long NBA freak, and Kat might be the worst defender at the 5 that I have ever seen. If you want to have Kat and Brunson on the floor at the same time then you have to have a rim protector behind them or you lose. Mitchell Robinson is their best big and he needs to start.
Kat put up some great numbers in the play-offs? Only if you conscientiously ignore the most important ones. How about plus-minus? At one point he had the worst plus-minus in all the play-offs, whereas Robinson had the best.
Extend him? Hell no, get rid of him. He hurts you more than he helps you, and maybe you will find a GM who, like Perk, is dumb enough not to see it.
Stop paying money to watch millionaires and billionaires play a game. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. More important: your family, schools, and social programs. Keep your money, spend it on something of value.
oh nice rick james instrumental
Knicks cant win anything with Bridges. Dont extend him!
