The NBA Is TERRIFIED Of This… | Daily Grizzlies News & Rumors
Welcome back to this edition of Dees Daily. I’m your host Malik and we don’t really got much rumor wise going on. Like I told y’all, it is a dead point in the off season where rumors and trades are essentially done. They’re all set in stone at this point. Just anything for the buyout market more than likely and I’ve already gone on record saying that the Grizzlies appear to be done is when it comes to all season moves. So, it’s going to be very, very, very hard for us to really make any noise in the national media right now. So, just kind of got to go with what we got. Like I said, look forward to next year with the roster essentially being finalized. Obviously, we still have training camp and things of that nature to do uh preseason things like that. And you know, with the Grizzlies, it’s always unpredictable, so you never never know what to expect. But looking into next season, I want to talk mostly about what we kind of advocated for during the offseason and now we can really truly evaluate how things are going to look going into next year, which is the impact of the veterans. And what I mean by that is guys like Contavius Cwell Pope and Ty Jerome. Now the impact that I see a guy like Contavius Cwell Pope having and we’ll start off with Kavius Cwell Pope. I feel like Contavis Cowwell Pope is someone that you and I obviously the Grizzlies should not expect Kavis Cowwell Poe to be a score, but he is a he is someone that can get you a three when you need it, get you a bucket when you need it. And but more more so with KCP’s game that I really love the most is his ability to play defense. He is a very underrated defender. He does not get a lot of respect as a defender that he should, but just going back in time watching his time with the Lakers, he was a pretty good defender. His time with the Nuggets, a very good defender. He was him and Bruce Brown were very key parts to that team being able to shut down key players, especially in the finals. guys like Jimmy Butler, you know, keeping them keeping guys like him, you know, just settled and not really finding their finding their groove, which is something that the Grizzlies have fallen victim to. I mean, just prime example, Anthony Edwards career um basically a careerhigh game. I want to say last year was when he went for nearly 50 in the form and Julius Randle went for I think 40 as well if I’m not mistaken. But it’s just like games like that to me, you put a guy like you got to put a guy like Kavis call Pop on Anthony Edwards. Not saying that Anthony still isn’t going to find a way to get 20 points, but it definitely helps the cause because you got to think about Grizz already have a very good defender and Jaylen Wells. So you add another very good veteran defender alongside him. You you got a very good tandem in your back court and it puts less stress on John Moran and teams to really target him. it makes them actually have to stretch the floor and find someone else to really get make make them win if that makes sense. Now with Ty Jerome, I look at Ty Jerome more so in the playmaking aspect. We already know he’s a pretty decent shooter, pretty good shooter. Um, but really more so the playmaking aspect. give an opportunity to really stretch the floor, find the open shot, keep turnovers at a minimum because as much as I liked a guy like Desmond Bane, his playmaking was questionable at times and he was one of those guys that kind of turned it over a little too much. Um, you didn’t really see that in hindsight in the moment, but definitely over the course of time, you really start to realize like there were there were issues right there. So, I definitely like what Taj and Casey P can bring to the table and it’s very good because the Western Conference gets better nearly every year. So, you definitely really have to think about that as how can the Grizzlies farewell against other teams now that they’ve essentially strengthened their team and trying to retool and figure out the identity of the lineup and the system. So with that being said, uh I want to talk about the future of what could be and which is Javon Small. And I want I want to say that this is mostly a hot take, but I really feel that Javon Small in two years could break out and essentially make a make a pretty good name for himself on the roster. I truly think that simply because he finds his shot very well. He finds his shot. He gets to the basket at will when he can, but more than anything, I like his efficiency. His efficiency is what stood out to me the most. Yes, he has all these intangibles with the game, but efficiency to me matters more than anything because we’ve had a lot of players over the course of years that were not efficient. They were great fan favorites, all of the above. I mean, we’ll take example, a guy like Gi Jackson, great player, but at times he can be inefficient. I feel like with Javon Small, he has the ability to know his game and not force a shot. I mean, there were times that he did force a shot, but he doesn’t do it as often from what I saw. Now, granted, yes, it was only two, three games of summer league, but his game did his game wasn’t much different from how he played in college. And that to me showed something because it it shows that he can translate his game like he wants to. And nothing is more greater than a player that is comfortable in his own game, especially transitioning from college to the pros. So I think I think being high on Javon Small and guys like Java Mack and Cedric Coward, of course, I think we can be big on them because the Grizzlies do have a good knack for drafting late round talent. So, I will give them that. And I think they pretty I think they got a pretty good GM and a pretty good steel in Javon Small. So, I’d say be on the lookout for him more than anything. Now, we we’re talking about the future and one thing that I really just kept thinking looking at other teams and how they were last year and how the Grizzlies compared to it. Excuse me. Excuse me. is late when I do these videos. But basically, um, like one thing that really just kind of that I thought about were the younger teams got older, but the older teams got younger. And it’s just like the Grizzlies are kind of in the middle. They’re in the middle of your core is getting older, but they’re still fairly young. So, it’s like, do you you get older, but at the same time, you don’t want to get too much older kind of thing. So, It also had me thinking how well does that work in the west especially with a team with teams like OKC and Minnesota and you know just big market teams like the Lakers itself. I think the Grizzlies reinforce themselves to a good extent but I think if I’m being honest we really won’t see the true effect until next year. And the reason I say that is because you have that you still got that Phoenix pick. you have, you know, you got your contract situations out the way, you got your squad for the next two, three years, but as far as this year, it is a long road to go. If I’m being honest, I definitely do think that we have to we can evaluate this year as a do or die year. I never not last year. This past year, I did look at it as kind of a do or die year, but I also didn’t because we’re coming off one of the worst seasons of franchise history, better yet at NBA history when it comes to injuries and stuff like that. So, definitely kind of gave him some leniency when it came to that. So, I really think next year, not this upcoming season, but next season, the Grizzlies will have a possibility where they could make the NBA finals or they could have an Indiana type run where the chemistry is just very, very good and the coaching is very, very good to the point where they actually catch everybody by surprise and they exceed expectations greatly. We could see that, but only time will tell. I always hope for the best. I hope it is Indiana type run and I hope it ends in a championship but one can only hope. We just have to play it and see how it goes. Now obviously bringing up that Phoenix pick. Um just got to think about the impact of the Desmond Bane trade because you know obviously national media thinks that this is like a a endall beall trade for the Grizzlies. I don’t look at it that way. I think the Grizzlies I think when we look in hindsight I think at the end of the day the Grizzlies won the trade but at the same time I think both teams are winners from the trade. Like like we said like I said when the first trade first happened the Magic were not good at three-point shooting. That was their demise when it came against the Celtics. I mean, they do if they have good three-point shooting, they possibly take the Celtics to six, seven games and you get it, you get one of the more streaky shooters in the league in Desmond Bane. And then with the Grizzlies, you get the veterans that you need. You get dra capital. I mean, you couldn’t really ask for more. I mean, nobody knew the market that Desmond Bane had, but it for sure wasn’t that. Nobody thought it would be that. So, the fact that they got all of that for Desmond Bane, I think they I think it greatly impacts them and I don’t think it’s something that will more or less hurt the Grizzlies, even if it was somebody else that got traded. I think just moving on from a Desmond Bane kind of player and getting back what you did, I think we will look back at that in hindsight and say, you know what, that was actually a very good trade and this is why we are where we are now. So, I think I think both teams greatly impact from it. I think the Grizzlies in the next few years will will definitely look on this trade and say this was a pretty good decision. I think regardless of the ending, I mean, like I said, you don’t we didn’t know what Desert Bain’s market was. And that’s what they got back in return. So, I’m not mad at it. I’m not not too mad at it at all. So, that’s all I really got to say about that. And as for this edition of Grizz Daily, that’s a wrap. I really don’t have much else for y’all. Like I said, it’s a it’s a dead point in the offseason. We really don’t know much until training camp. So, we just got to be on the lookout for things. Like I said, the coaching staff, they’re slowly figuring that out. Obviously, as more comes out, I definitely got y’all with that news. If you like this video, make sure to like that button. After just two summer league games, Small was very impressive. He's already in the Darius Garland category.
