Would the Kings acquiring Jonathan Kuminga mean the end of DeMar DeRozan in Sacramento?

Would the Kings acquiring Jonathan Kuminga mean the end of DeMar DeRozan in Sacramento?

But I know that a lot of people are tuning in right now and listening because I said that there’s something I think is going on within the Kings organization that is fairly obvious. Okay? And it’s not to say that I heard this anywhere or that somebody told me this because I don’t think the Kings would say this, right? I don’t think the Kings would say this out loud because it’s just not the right thing to do. what I said to kick off the show today, there’s something that isn’t being talked about that’s clearly happening with the Kings and a specific player on the team. Now, somebody I saw in the chat, shout out to the chat, said, “Allan, are you saying somebody’s unhappy?” No, no, no. That’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying I believe that there is an agreement between a couple different parties here and how this thing shakes out with Jonathan Kaminga will tell us how these possible agreements will all shake out. Okay. And it all started when I read something specific in the Anthony Slater article. Shout out Anthony Slater. I believe his first maybe second article with ESPN. Me and Anthony go way back. So, shout out to him and everything that he’s accomplished. And this is what he had to say. Beyond the contract demands, Kaminga is in search of a more guaranteed consistent starting role and featured opportunity. Sources said that’s something the Suns and Kings have pitched. Let’s think about the Kings starting lineup right now. Now again, Kaminga wants to start and Kaminga wants to be a featured offensive option. He wants to be a one or two option in layman’s terms. That’s what he wants to be. So, I’m sitting here thinking, I’m looking around the lineup. I’m looking around the roster. I’m looking around what we perceive to be the starting rotation. And I got out my TI89 calculator, which you can now fire up on your phone if you got an iPhone and you do the update, which is insane to me. Kids will never understand being able to play Brick Breaker and Snake, but that’s a conversation for another day. And I’m I’m checking the the checks and balances, the algebra, the square roots, and I’m not understanding where Kaminga is going to get the things that he wants on the Kings unless something has been discussed and a handshake agreement is in place. And I believe, now this is specifically me, I believe that there is a handshake agreement between Demar De Rozan and the Sacramento Kings. That is my belief. If Jonathan Kaminga is acquired by the Sacramento Kings, the Sacramento Kings will get their butts in gear as far as getting Demar De Rozan to another team. And what I mean by that is there are people in this space, the uh the the Danny Ang guys like that, they never want to lose a trade or the perception of losing a trade. And I know that we’ve brought up before the the situation with the with the Miami Heat, right? And do you just take Terry Roier two seconds and it’s essentially a salary dump? Obviously, you’re not getting a player back that’s as good as Demard de Rozan, but Demard Rozen gets to go to a contender. You’re gonna get money that’s eventually going to come off the books if Terry Roier even plays based on the betting allegations and you go from there. So I believe that if the Kings acquire Jonathan Kaminga, they will be extremely motivated to move Demar Rosen. And the handshake agreement would be we don’t necessarily have to quote unquote win a trade. we find somebody that’s interested in you and we will do what we need to do because at that point you look around the roster and there’s no way there is no logical way for the Kings to have Demar Rozan on that team and I don’t even think a bench I don’t think a bench roll would even do it. I don’t I don’t think a bench roll would even do it. There’s no way. There’s just there’s too much redundancy here. So I believe Jonathan Kaminga gets acquired the Kings say okay you know I don’t know if a buyout conversation even happens but we will make sure that we do right by you Demar because we also have to do right by Jonathan Kaminga and if we’re bringing him in and if it is being reported by somebody who clearly in Anthony Slater is having these conversations at one point in the article he said he said referring to Jonathan Kaminga The Kings have essentially guaranteed a starting role and featured opportunity. There is nowhere else to find it. It’s not going to be Zack Lavine. It’s not going to be I guess technically it could be a Damonte Sabonis conversation. I don’t think that’s the case. And if they did go through with this, what does that mean for Damonte Sabonis? I don’t know. I don’t know. I believe that they would at least want to see what it looks like. Me personally, when I think about that spacing, I’m not sure how it would look, right? So, you add in Jonathan Kaminga, Demar De Rozan is wherever he is now, right? Maybe that Bucks deal comes back up and you bring Koozma off the bench because you’re really just trying to do right by Dear, Giannis, Dear, Miles Turner. They’re going to the playoffs. Dear would get back in the playoffs and that’s what he wants. He wants to contend. So you bring Koozma off the bench, something like that. But you’re really just trying to do right by Demar. I don’t know that they would want to have that Koozma contract for a number of years like that. But you understand what I’m saying. So that is my belief because you can carry the one, you can divide the two, you can multiply the three. It’s just not possible. It’s just not possible. That cliche in basketball. There’s only one basketball, right? And how it gets overused. It actually fits here. It actually fits. I’ll also say this. I believe that this goes as deep to the point where there could be another handshake agreement between ownership and Scott Perry where they say the only way we are going to move in the direction of a reset is if we have a premier piece. Whether you think you the listener or you the viewer, whether you think that Kaminga should be that premier piece or not, that’s your opinion. It’s more so whether the Kings think that he is or not. And they’re still having this conversation. Not only are they having this conversation, they’ve upped the offer. They’ve gone from seconds to a protected first. It might be highly protected, but they’ve gone from a from seconds to a first. still Devin Carter, still Dario Sartz, that’s been reported. So, they haven’t left the table. So, this leverage conversation that we’re going to get into with Brett Seagull, there have been times where we’ve said, “Oh, well, if the Kings, they don’t really want Kaminga that much. They just threw their name in the hat and if it’s too much, they’ll leave.” They’re still there. They’re still there. Whether I agree with it or not in the fit, whether you agree with it or not, they’re still there and they’re upping their offer. So why would they do that knowing that you got 47 million to Zack Lavine, you got 40 whatever million to Deonte Sabonis. Demar De Rozan was top 20 in field goal attempts. You’re about to extend Keegan Murray and you’re on record saying that we have to make sure that Keegan doesn’t get lost in the sauce offensively and you have one Dennis Shruder to orchestrate the whole thing. That doesn’t add up unless getting Jonathan Kaminga could be the force that pushes them in a certain direction. And with Demar De Rozan 36 years old, everything he’s seen, everything that he’s been through, I was there. I was in that post game at the end of the season. Demar De Rozan was very careful to discuss and to talk about how he feels this next season of his should. And I know we’ve seen them working out together. I know we’ve seen him at summer league. The dude also is a great teammate. He loves to hoop. Whether you agree with how he plays the game or not, he’s a great teammate. He loves to hoop. He’s a Hall of Famer. Him being in Vegas, we don’t know what was talked about in Vegas, to be honest with you, Kaminga. And that conversation also happened in Vegas. So, we’re not sure that it was all, hey, cool. Uh, we’re going to go into training camp. We’re going to rock and roll unless X, Y, and Z happens. So that is my belief when it comes to Demard Rosen, Jonathan Kaminga and what the Kings may or may not have in place with the Martyr Rosen specifically and in addition to that with Scott Perry and ownership and Dennis Shruder, he’s still a great copy paste cut and paste player that you can drop on any team. So regardless of the direction they go, Dennis Shruder is going to be Dennis Shruder. That’s why he’s been on 8,000 teams because he’s going to be Dennis Shruder. So you can move on from Demar De Rozan. You can add Jonathan Kaminga and you could argue that Dennis Shruder also helps that. Not argue, he would help that situation to organize all of it. That is my thought process when I’m reading everything that’s coming out, when I’m speaking to people around the situation because there are only so many minutes to go around. There are only so many minutes to go around. There are only so many shots to to put up and you can only feature so many players and you can only do so much at one time. You know how it is when you try to do too much at one time. I’m guilty of it always. And we’ve talked about Scott Perry before trying to quote unquote clean up his room. It’s now his room. It wasn’t his room prior. And how he has to start doing that in certain situations. He’s got to clean up stuff off the floor. He’s got to make his bed. He’s got to vacuum. He’s got to clean the bathroom as well. It’s a process. and how he chooses to approach that process will tell us a lot about his idea and his ideals on where this team should go. But there’s no way that they are sitting there guaranteeing a starting role to Jonathan Kaminga and a featured opportunity. Okay? And they are pitching that to Kaminga, his camp, and the Warriors. and they’re going to just power through. Who else gets kicked out the lineup? Who else? There’s nobody else. And it’s not a matter of getting kicked out the lineup. It’s a fit thing. And we’ve we’ve had that word that that’s a probably a triggering word for some people with the Sacramento Kings. Fit. But Demard Rosen is not on a bad contract. And I don’t believe that his market has been has been invisible based on his talent. I think it’s been tough because you never want to come off as quote unquote losing a trade. If this is a a a buyout situation, if this is a situation of we just want to make sure Demar gets to a good spot, we’re moving in a different direction. We’re okay with a version of a salary dump and a couple expiring contracts. Somebody would sign up for that. Dear next season is not guaranteed after this one. So he makes that 24 then that next season isn’t guaranteed. So essentially, it is a version of an expiring deal for whatever team takes him, whether it’s Milwaukee, whether it’s Miami, any and I know Miami got Norman Pal, don’t get me wrong, but you’re looking at Demar differently when it’s a semi-expiring deal and you’re not being forced to give up talent because the Kings have an understanding with Demar. This is the direction that we’re going. We’re trying to clear the books a little bit. 2027 is going to be huge for us. We don’t need to be Danny A and come off and say this was an even a quote unquote even trade. That’s what I believe to be happening. More Kaminga talk when we return. Kaminga and the Kings. It’s got a good ring to it, doesn’t it? Brett Seagull breaks it all down in his latest Clutch Points article. Clown style sect sports.

On today’s edition of The Allen Stiles Show, he discussed the potential trickle-down effects of the Sacramento Kings acquiring Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga.

  1. JK gets DBo’s money plus a little extra and his slot in the starting lineup makes perfect sense if we don’t have to overpay for JK

  2. Whoever gets JK is going to get a star. There is a reason the Warriors are not trying to trade the kid. They know he is going to blow up but they are committed to Steph, Kerr, Butler, and Dray. There is no room for JK. They want to trade him like he is an all-star but want to pay him like he is roll player.

  3. Demar's consistency of play, particularly during clutch time, is why thing Kings won as many games as they did. Trade him and we can put 10-15 games in the loss column. That said, Kuminga will give them a good talent for many years, but it would be a reset move and writing off playoffs for several more years.
