I Don’t Get the Hawks Hype.
So, the Atlanta Hawks have had a pretty good off seasonason and they’re now everyone’s sexy pick to be like a sneaky East contender. I’m just not buying it. So, on paper, I kind of get it, right? Because this is probably the best team of the Trey Young era. And their new big pickups were Christophs Porzingis and Nquille Alexander Walker. But here are my issues with the team. And number one is I just wouldn’t want to have to rely on Kristoff’s Porzingis because for as talented as the guy is, he’s played more than 60 games in a season once since 2017. Like I’d rather bet on one of the Pistons young guys to take a jump than Porzingis to stay healthy. Then I’m a huge Trey Young fan, but last year proved he can’t carry this offense by himself. So like, who’s this team’s second score? Now, could a healthy Jaylen Johnson be that guy and like make an all-star jump this year? Absolutely. I still don’t even think that would be enough. And so, yeah, if we look at the sort of fringe teams in the East from last year, I like the Pistons, Magic, and even the Raptors more than the Hawks.

Health is such a bad reason for why you don’t believe in someone or something. Tatum has never played less than 70 games including the playoffs in his entire career yet he tore his Achilles. Freak accidents happen to “healthy” players and healthy seasons can occur for “unhealthy” players.

My one disagreement is that Jalen Johnson does not need to make an Allstar jump. He made that jump last year and was playing at an Allstar level and would have been one if not for the injury. (Maybe not in the west but he’s in the east).
