Are The Atlanta Hawks The Next Super Team
No one saw this coming. Not from a team that’s been treading water for years. But the Atlanta Hawks might have just pulled off the most under the radar glow up in the entire league. A silent revolution that could shift the balance of power in the East. The question is, did they finally build the perfect roster around Trey Young, or did they just buy themselves another year of false hope? Let’s take a look at last year. Last year, something finally clicked in Atlanta. For the first time, the blueprint started to take shape. Beginning with Jaylen Johnson. At just 22, Johnson transformed from a raw athletic forward into a legit two-way weapon. He slashed downhill with purpose, dished passes like a guard, defended across multiple positions, and even offered rim protection. On paper, he was everything you’d want next to Trey. 69, mobile, unselfish, and skilled. The only problem, he can’t stay healthy. But when he is on the floor, the potential is impossible to ignore. He’s not just a piece. He might just be the piece. And just when Johnson was breaking out, the basketball gods blessed Atlanta with the number one pick. Instead of chasing the biggest name or highest ceiling, the Hawks took a swing that was more chess than checkers. They picked Zachary, a 6’7in wing who won’t wow you with highlights, but moves like a ghost through defenses. He’s a sharpshooter in the making with elite offball instincts, a quick trigger, and the length to grow into a defensive pest. He doesn’t need the ball to impact the game. In fact, he’s better without it. And with Trey orchestrating, that’s terrifying. So, now you’ve got Trey Johnson and Zachary, a young trio with synergy and upside. But there was one glaring issue still hanging over this team. The Trey and Murray backcourt just didn’t work. redundant skill sets, poor spacing, defensive liabilities. It had to end. Enter the Pelicans. Atlanta flipped Murray and got back Larry Nance Jr. and Dyson Daniels. At first glance, Nance made headlines. But Daniels, he’s the real prize. A 6’7 defensive menace with the agility of a guard and the instincts of a veteran. He averaged nearly six deflections a game, something no one else has done in over a decade. At just 22, he made first team all defense and nearly won defensive player of the year. His offense still developing, but defensively he’s the perfect bodyguard for Trey. With Johnson, Zachary, and Daniels, the Hawks suddenly had a trio of long switchable defenders who could cover ground, force turnovers, and push the pace. That’s when things got really interesting. Then they saw the Clint Capella problem. He has been a steady lob threat and rim protector, but his limitations were obvious. So late in the season, Atlanta made a quiet but crucial switch to Aneka Okongu and he took over as the starting center. He brought similar vertical gravity but added passing touch and a willingness to stretch out to the threepoint line. In Snyider’s offense, that meant you could run him in the slot, the corner, or let him dive hard from above the break. Suddenly, the floor opened and the offense started flowing. Then enter the offseason and see the Atlanta Hawks genius moves. They traded for Chris Staps Porzingis. No valuable assets lost, high reward, huge risk, but potentially a ceiling razor. Chris Stabs had a weird year in Boston, battling illness and fading late, but he still shot 41%. He’s a 7 foot2 sniper with elite rim protection and postmismatch potential. He can pick and pop, space the floor, and give Snyder a chest piece unlike anything Trey’s ever played with. Health is always the caveat, but if he’s upright, he’s not just a fit, he’s a force. add him to a front court already boasting Okong Woo Johnson and Zachary. That’s a nightmare. But the Hawks weren’t done. They signed Nicl Alexander Walker who is a 39% shooter over the past three years with real ball handling chops and defensive bite. He’s not just a spacer. He’s a pest who can guard ones and twos, navigate screens, and play downhill. Then came Luke Canard. He doesn’t defend like Nicl Alexander Walker, but he does one thing better than almost anyone in NBA history. He hits threes. He’s a career 44% shooter from deep. You need spacing. You need a sniper next to Trey. Then Canard is your man and he delivers every single time. So now the top eight players looks like this. Trey Young, offensive engine, elite playmaker. Dyson Daniels and Nicl Alexander Walker. Point of attack defenders. Secondary creators Jaylen Johnson and Zachary. Athletic wings who can shoot, defend, and fly. Aneka Okongu, modern mobile big. Kristoffs Porzingis, floor spacing, shot blocking unicorn. Luke Kennard, top tier bench sniper. That’s not just a team. That’s options. Go big, go small, run a death lineup, go five out, lock in defensively, burn you from deep. All of it flows around Trey Young. And now this is a complete team. But this isn’t utopia yet. There are still problems. Problem number one, health. Johnson struggled. Daniels has missed time. Poor Zingis is a walking medical report. Even Kennard and Okongu have had nagging issues. If the wheels fall off physically, this whole thing stalls. Problem number two, shot creation. Outside of Trey, nobody can truly break down a set defense. Johnson has flashes, but most of his stuff comes early in the clock or in transition in the playoffs when things slow down. Who’s your plan B? Three solutions. Someone takes a leap. Zachary Daniels, Johnson becomes a borderline all-star, or you make a trade for a secondary score. someone like Jaylen Brown or Devin Booker. Problem number three, no backup point guard. When Trey sits, the offense nose dives. Last year, it dropped nine points per 100 possessions. They had Carris Levert for a minute, but he’s gone. Now you’re relying on Kobe Buffkin, Kase Wallace, or a vet agent. Monty Morris still out there. Chris Paul available. Russell Westbrook would be wild but not impossible. So, no, this isn’t a perfect roster, but it’s the best one Trey Young has ever had. A 50 win ceiling, lineup versatility, a young, switchable defense first core with modern spacing, and just enough star power to scare people. And maybe most important of all, this isn’t a one-year experiment. betrays the oldest core player at 26. Johnson 23, Ree 20, Daniels 22, Okong Wu 24, the Vets all in their prime. In 2 years, this team could be terrifying and maybe, just maybe, Atlanta finally figured it out. So, what do you think? Did the Hawks just build the perfect team around Trey Young, or did they simply rearrange the furniture in a room with no windows? Let us know in the comments. And if you’re still watching, you’re the real MVP. Catch you in the next

This was a good video from somebody just starting out. You're pretty well informed for someone id assume doesn't actively follow the team. I doubt we sign a backup pg. There may not be another primary shot creator outside of trae but there's enough secondary ball handlers on the roster to keep the team afloat for the 13-15 or so minuets a game he sits. The offense will definitely take a pretty big hit but the massive improvements to spacing and defense will hopefully offset most of it. With one roster spot left im really holding out hope for Horford. He'd really raise the teams floor as a premium insurance piece for when one of KP, JJ, or O inevitably miss time. He really fits what the team is trying to do with versatile defenders who can space the floor and make quick decisions on the ball.
6'7 for Risacher is false bc he's taller than Jalen or same size at 6'9-6'10
Yeah Zach is 6' 10"
Why you trying make Risacher short. He’s 6’10”. Him and Mo are the same height, seen it in person
Respect to showing love to the hawks but you made a few mistakes.
Vit Krejci Is our Backup PG…he's 6'8 so he defends SF's but he is the backup PG and pretty much has been since last season. Bench Linup is Basically NAW(Point of Attack Defense), Kennard(SG), Vit(Point Forward), Mo Gueye/Asa Newell, Onyeka Okongwu. We Might Snag Al Horford so stay tuned…
Walker can play the point and he also can break down defenses
Heck of breakdown!!Bro!! Real talk!!
This is what I been saying.
KP
Trae
JJ
Dyson
That is some crazy strong team. And Riz is about to explode.
Its really up to Trae and Quin. Grow up Trae. It is time.
Looks like they have enough talent, just need to be healthy for the playoffs.
If there are no injuries of course they are going to be a force to be reckoned with. Last year was looking good until injuries happened
I think Jalen Johnson is the key. If he takes that next step to super stat… lookout!
6’7 inch wing? Lmao he’s 6’10!!
When the playoffs start if they are healthy and stay healthy during playoffs fear the hawks
The key is the back up pg who will need to play like a starter… Kobe and HEALTH are key for this team.. But the depth will serve them well
🦄🦄🦄
The way you keep calling him Zachary is funny
Ai is really crazy man
As a Hawks fan we can answer this real quick. Yes. Jalen Johnson was the 2nd best player. Dyson Daniel’s defense, and Andre Hunters spark off the bench helped us beat the top Eastern teams (NY, Cavs, Boston, Bucks) easy before JJs injury. We lost Hunter and got a big at the 5 with another Defensive player in Walker. It’s a wrap !!!
"Super team" "Best team Trae Young's ever had" and "50 win ceiling" in the same video
Who is “Nickel” Alexander Walker??? It’s Nick-KEEL
God willing!
If they are willing to accept that Jalen Johnson needs to be their best player then yes, they will win.
fan made😊
I think if anyone thinks that this team isn't going to be good, you dont know basketball.
The Hawks were 4th in the east and due to being top 3 in fast break points last season before the injuries and trades. They won with defense.
After the injuries and trades, their defense left, but their offense was top 5.
So what they really did this off-season was say how can we get the best of both worlds. Have a top 10 defense, be top 3 in fast break points, and be a top 5 offense at the same time.
If they did, indeed accomplish that. Which it looks like they did. I don't see how they dont maintain that top 3 or 4 seeding for the whole season. Unless injuries like any team takes them out.
