Should the Magic TRADE for Vooch Again?!

Should the Magic TRADE for Vooch Again?!

Hello, hello, hello. The VU returning to the Orlando Magic trade rumor will not go away. So, we’ll go over it and what it would mean on the court and how we can make it happen moneywise, as well as going through the cap sheet of all the trades I talked about in the last video, all all the players that would have to be involved and all the money that would have to be moved around. And lastly, our latest Orlando Magic player added to the roster, Jamal Kaine. And we’ll go through his stats and a couple highlights to see what he’s bringing to the team. This is the Orlando Magic Nation, your source for all things Orlando Magic for Orlando Magic fans by an Orlando Magic fan. Just wanted to thank you very, very, very, very much for clicking on this video and spending a little bit of time talking Magic with me. While you’re here, click subscribe so you don’t miss any of the content that I produce, as well as joining the Orlando Magic Nation. And while you’re clicking around, smash that like button. It really helps the channel grow by having it go to more people with all the likes. Lastly, this doesn’t have to be a one-way street. So, go into the comments and let me know if you are excited for any of these uh trade possibilities or you’re wondering how the salary cap would work for the Magic or anything like that, put it right down there and I’ll do my best to answer. So, we’re going to start off with the Vu trade rumor. I would say it’s not likely that it would be a trade. most likely because he only has really he only has a year left in his contract. So, I don’t see the Magic giving up a lot of capital uh when it comes to salaries or anything draftwise because it would be a rental and really that’s not where the Magic are in their rebuild or their retool. At this point, again, we’re not doing that anymore. We’re in contention. We’re trying to win. Obviously, we would want a big man who is able to shoot because again, that’s gonna open things up for Fron and Paulo to be able to drive and to be able to work in the low post. However, defensively, that obviously is going to take uh it’s going to definitely affect the rating or the ranking that we have defensively because Vu is not the stopper, let’s just say, when it comes to defense. he wasn’t when he was on the team before and he’s just a little bit older at this point. So, it definitely would be an upgrade to the offense when it comes to our center position because Vu has has been consistent as you can see by his career stats here. Uh he’s for his career 17.2 points, uh 10 rebounds. So, he’s a 17 and 10. You you would never say no to that unless you factor in a lot of the defense. So, uh, within his 11 year, excuse me, in his nine years with the Magic, 17.6 points, 18.8, excuse me, 10.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assist, shooting 50% from the field, 35% from three. Then when he went to the Bulls for the last five years, he’s upped his average to 18.2 points per game, 10.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists. Obviously, they they normally play a much more fast-paced tempo, a much more uppaced tempo compared to what the Magic do. The Magic are obviously a slow, methodical defensive team. The Bulls are kind of up and down, up and down, up and down. So, obviously, his numbers are going to be a little bit better, especially when it comes to assists because of the the the ability of a lot of his shooters like Kobe White and uh and others on that team. So he, as you can see, he shot more three-pointers as well with the Bulls. So he’s he’s up that amount to one point. He’s averaging 1.5 over the course of the five years uh three-pointers made per game and four 4.4 shot. Still at 35%. Obviously, some of these numbers are rounded. So with his time with the Magic, it was 34.5% rounded up to 35. And when he’s with the Bulls, it’s 35.3%, I believe. and it rounds down to 35. So the the volume of three-point shooting again would be something that we would like on the team. However, you have to take everything into account the salary. You have to take in what what it would cost us uh draft capital-wise because we would assume that Chicago would want draft capital and we kind of robbed them last time when uh when we did a trade with them. So I don’t know how that negotiation would go. So when you taking all the factors for me, I’d rather not bring him back only because of the defense and you know if as you would as you’ve heard Nico Harris say all the time say Nico Harrison say the the GM of Dallas Mavericks if you didn’t know that defense wins championships. Obviously you need an offense. You can’t just play defense. The Magic last year had the second ranked defense but without offense you’re not going to be able to go very far. So, we need the offense, but with the defense in the end, I for me, this is a this is a pass. But I can understand why it’s a rumor that continues to to happen. The Magic the Magic have already put themselves in the upper echelon when it comes to the East. We can see again the West is going to be a battle of attrition. So, in the end, whoever comes out of the West, maybe they’re not at their full strength after having to go through that gauntlet of the playoffs. So, if the Magic are able to get to the finals, then they have a puncher chance. Obviously, we’ll have to see how they play throughout the years. And everything is theoretical right now. But that’s what we’re looking for right now. We’re looking for someone to continue to increase the the ceiling of the team. Having Buch on the team, I would say, would would increase it. However, you have to also look at all the things that that come with it. If we give a lot of capital or if we give a lot of players because for us to to make the money work, there would have to be a few players involved. We already are at the minimum of players on the roster. So, when it comes to a trade in in that respect, I wouldn’t want to to go through it. However, if we were to get him through a buyout, so let’s say we get all the way through through the trade deadline, he doesn’t get traded because it’s Chicago and you know that it is what it is. Chicago doesn’t always do all the trades. If he doesn’t get traded and they decide on a buyout, now that’s when things get interesting because if I were us, now there’s a lot of numbers here. I’m going to go through it because again, you know, I like to bring the numbers, but because we’re a first apron team right now, right now. Right now, we’re over the tax. Once you’re over the tax, then you’re basically a first apron team. We’re hardcapped at the First Apron, right? So, that’s that means if you look at the numbers down here, we only have 1.2 million. So, that’s this number right here, uh, where it says first apron space, we’re at $1.2 2 million under the top of the first apron because if you pass that number then you go into the second apron. So that’s where we are right now. We would need to make a trade to be able to bring in VU even even at through a buyout because we’re a first apron team. We can’t just uh get any buyout candidate that was making more than $4.1 million in when before they got bought out. You understand that? So again, because right now he makes more than $14.1 million. If we continue to be a first apron team, which means we’re above the luxury tax, then we can’t just wait for him to be bought out and for us to us to sign him. Okay? So what we would have to do is to get below the luxury tax. So you see the the luxury tax on that first column where it says 25 uh 2025 2026 where it says tax number and allocations. So, right now we’re $5.5 million over the luxury tax. So, we would need to get under the luxury tax so that we’re able to bring in VU. Now, everyone talks about getting rid of Jet. I even talked about it in my last video. If we just if we trade Jet, that would get us under the the tax. Well, I actually physically ran the numbers and turns out if the numbers that are on spot track are correct, we actually can trade Jet. But we still in the end are over the tax just barely as you see by 45 grand. So that’s not I thought it was just going to be a nice easy thing just to jettison Jet for second round draft picks or something like that and then we’re under the tax. Turns out that’s not the case. So we would need to go to guys that are that are more expensive than Jet which would then be Taius Jones that would be Goa Batz. That would be Anthony Black. Those would be the type of players until you start getting to the Wendell Carters, the Jonathan Issacs who at 15 million, stuff like that. So, if we just are trying to get to somebody more than 5 million because that’s what Jet’s making this year, 5.5. If it we’re looking for the next tier up after up to that, then that goes straight to Taius at at $7 million. So, then we’d be getting rid of Taius or or trading Tus away. So, that again, it could give us a bit of flexibility to get under the luxury tax. But in this example, if we were to to be trading Goa with not without bringing anybody in. So this is just GOGA going out again, we would we would likely be creating a trade exception there. It gets a little more complicated. But let’s just say in this example to make it easy, go is the only thing going out. So then now in that case now we’re under the tax as you see in that third column where it says WO without GOGA 2526 right there we’re at $2.7 million under the luxury tax. So there then we’re able to bring in uh Vich V. We’re able to bring him in then at that point. So that last column there says with Vu. So that’s with Vu and without Goa. This is these are the numbers that it goes because we’ll be able to sign him if unless they do some sort of dame signing for whatever reason and we pay him way more if he goes for the veteran minimum since he’s already getting the buyout from the Chicago Bulls then the minimum is $3.4 $4 million for how many years of service V has. VH has I think I think it’s well at least 14 years just those I think it’s 15 years of service at this point. So the minimum that he can that that he can sign for is $3.4 million but it’s prrated. So the NBA season I know I’m throwing a lot of numbers out so if you need to if you need to rewind please feel rewind. Uh there’s about typically 70 to 65 days after the trade deadline. So, we’d be able to prorrate the amount of the $3.4 million. You prorrate it. If you prorrate it, it’s about $19.6,000 per day. So, if you multiply that, then you end up to about $1.3 million. So, that’s the difference between the $2.7 million difference in the luxury tax and the 1.3 million. It’s a lot of numbers. I know it’s a lot of numbers. to salary cap is with all these aprons now have made it very complex in a lot of different ways. But just know the way for us to get VU is we would have to trade out more money than $5.5 million so we can get under the luxury tax so that we can even sign Vu because he makes too much money for us to sign him via via the buyout because we’re currently a first apron team. If you got to rewind that a couple times, I get it. Don’t you worry. Feel free also to add down in the comments if you’re if it’s a bit confusing. I can write it out a bit more and be able to to go through that line by line. But just know we can do it. Ideally, it’d be via buyout and we will have to do some finagling of the books to be able to get under the luxury tax so that then we can get Vu back on the Magic. Now, if it’s via if it’s via buyout, I think he could be obviously a valuable piece in the playoffs for just his offense. Defensively, we’d have to we’d have to hide him. So, I think he would have to come off the bench. Uh just because if we’re with the starters, I don’t know. In the end, I I worry about his defense a lot. But I think it’s it’s worth the gamble at that point because then we’re really only getting rid of, let’s say, one player as opposed to getting rid of a bunch of different players. If it’s a onetoone thing, then again, it it helps uh out with our roster size and all of the other things that come with that. So in the playoffs, he hasn’t been in the playoffs too too often, but again, the Magic would be a better offense with him on the on the team. Again, I think it would really detract from our defense. So for me via trade, no me via buyout, we can give it a shot. It’s only a rental. we would have given up a a valuable piece in Goa in this example, but I think at that point with the magic ceiling, what we’re trying to hit if we add VU at the end of that at the end of the trade deadline, then that really would I think increase our ceiling a bit. But tell me what you think. Put it in the comments if you think that that’s crazy and we shouldn’t do that. Feel free to let me know. Now for the other trades. Now, let me go here just to make sure that I’m clicking away. So, you see my little mouse here. So, uh, one of the trades yesterday I was that was being discussed was something for, uh, revolving around Daltton Connect. So, as you see, Delta Connect only makes $4 million. $4 million, you know, 10 thou 4 million $10,000. So, not that much. So, there were there was one bit that was talking about the Daltton Connect for Goa Batadz. like, okay, Goa makes 8.3 million, Daltton makes 4 million. Again, because we’re hardcapped at the apron at in this example, we’re not caring about the luxury tax anymore. That was only for Vu, only so we can sign him. But for this for this transaction here, we have to worry about the f the first apron. And since we’re hardlocked the first apron, we only have, as you saw, $1.2 million. We only have uh sorry, we have here 1.2 $2 million to play with, which is on the far left column there. So, we can’t take back more. Basically, we can’t take back more salary unless it’s 1.2 million and it’s right on the dot. So, Dton Connect for Goa, there’s a $4 million difference here. So, to make the numbers work, we’d likely have to have both Daltton Connect and Jackson Hayes right there. That’s about 7.4 4 million for GoGa’s 8.3. We get rid of that and in the end, I know in that first example, we would end up being uh we would end up being under because we’re giving up the higher the higher salary player and we’re bringing back four million. So, for us, that’s fine. But if you look down at what the Lakers are doing, the Lakers are also hardcaped at the first apron. Basically, the same exact situation as us. So, they couldn’t do that trade. uh straight up for Daltton Connect and Goa. So for them it would also have to be let’s say Daltton Connect and Jackson Hayes for Goa. That would have to be the the trade in the end for them because again they’re also hardcapped at the first apron. So in that respect we’re getting back a center plus Dton Connect. Jackson Hayes really wasn’t getting any play anymore uh for the for the Lakers in the playoffs at all. like they even did what they did in the playoffs. So, I don’t know. For me, I don’t see Dton Connect being that good of a shooter for us to to do that trade, but at least that’s how that trade would have to work. So, now the second one was Jonathan Issac’s for Dalton Connect, something connected to Daltton Connect. the same thing. They can’t the Lakers wouldn’t be able to just send out Daltton Connect and then and take back Jonathan Issacs because again that would they’re hard locked at the first hardcapped at the first apron as well. So in that respect that that trade would have to be likely somebody like let’s see we have to get to about 15 million because that’s how much Jonathan makes. 15 million is about what a Maxi Cleber Maxi Cleber and Dalton Connect that makes about 15 million exactly. So it would have to be those two guys and I’m assuming draft capital second rounders stuff like that because the Lakers don’t have many first round picks at this point. The magic for me we’re giving up the better players so that’s why they have to give us the draft capital. So that’s that’s that. Yeah, I’d rather have more of a, you know, if we were doing like a Wendell trade where it’s uh where it’s about $10 million, I believe this year, then Jake Larivia, Dalton Connect. Now, we’re talking like obviously that would hurt our defense again, but I think it’s a lot of our principles are the the thing that help with the defense that hopefully we’d be able to continue to have that defense even if we don’t have some of our better defenders at center. Anyhoo, so those are those two trades. Uh the other trade after that was the Suns trade. The Suns trade was they were talking about Royce O’Neal who makes $10 million and Nick Richardson. So it’s about $15 million there. $15 million for if we do Jonathan Isaacs, then that’s that’s pretty much a straightup deal in that respect. that wouldn’t be the worst trade in the world because again we’re we’re bringing back two players because again we’re right at the 14 player roster minimum. So ideally if we can bring back two guys then that’s uh that but I believe that trade was what was it that one was Nick Richards and Royce O’Neal for Goa and Jet and Tristan. So again, us getting rid of three players isn’t uh isn’t going to be ideal for us. So if it’s Tristan, if it’s Tristan, Jet, and Goa, for me, that’s that’s definitely a no at that point. If we’re getting again, if we’re getting rid of just Jonathan Isaac’s for those two guys, now we’re talking. I think there we can we can we can talk at that point because then Nick Richards is is only it’s $5 million but because of his his injury history and all that other stuff we might be able to get him pretty cheap because we would need a center moving uh moving forward if uh well in that in that other trade we wouldn’t do. Royce O’Neal is a little bit older. and he still has a couple years left on on his deal, but he’s he’s a good enough shooter that in that in that that type of trade, I’d be more interested. But Goa, Jet, and Tristan, for me, that’s us paying way too much, and that’s not uh that’s not something that I would that I personally would do. But again, tell me what you guys think on there. The other trade was for Malik Monk. So Malik Monk makes 18.8 million. Let’s just say 18.8 million and his trade was Malik Monk Jonathan Isaac Jet. And that that makes sense. So at least salarywise that that actually is us taking us giving off more again than than what uh they are doing. So, that’s something that wouldn’t be the worst. And like I said yesterday, to me that would be the the trade that I would do the most because 18.8, we bring that back. We give up we give up 20 jet at this point hasn’t really proven too much and we need somebody off the bench that’s going to be able to kind of be able to score really. We can’t really mess around at that point. So that’s the that’s really the the big one that that we would that for me if we were going to do a trade hopefully we would do a trade like this where we’re losing one kind of asset and jet because we don’t really know what he is and hopefully he can get another opportunity in a different environment in Sacramento and just green light to shoot and and doesn’t have to worry about the defense and just shoot that might be the best for him. But again, like uh losing that much wouldn’t hurt, let’s say. That it would hurt defensively, of course, again, by losing one of our big guys, but bringing in Malik Monk, I think that that would be the one if I any of these trades, that would be the one that I would do. And then lastly, it was the Anthony Simons trade. Now, this again is he’s only got one year left. Now, if we go back to real quick, Malik Monk’s got uh 20 next year. So, yeah, it’s got 20 next year and then a player option 21 the year after. So, it’s not bad. Again, for me, that would be the trade if I was going to do a trade. Anthony Simons, Anthony Simons, he has one year left. So, it’s basically a rental in in this case. So 27 million and I think in that trade it was like Jonathan and Goa and Tristan because that’s what would make because Tristan makes 3 point something million. Goas at 8.3 and uh Jonathan Isaac is at 15. So that’s how you get the money to work in that one. And again that’s three players for one. Then we’d have to sign a few veteran minimums, which again isn’t the worst thing in the world. But again, like I said, minimum is 3.7 is 3.4 million for like 10 years plus years of service. If you get like a one like a first a person with one year of service, the minimum I think is $2 million, something like that. So even then we would be struggling to scrape scrape together the money because the just for Anthony Simons we are losing three players and that basically gets it right at the the amounts for salary matching purposes. So there not only are we helping the Celtics but we’re also hurting ourselves. I feel Anthony Simons is a good shooter, a good player, but his defense is so bad that I think it really would uh it really would suffer and it really would hurt the the team in that respect. So, for me, that’s a that’s a big heck no for me on that one. So, those are all the just for for people, you know, I I saw some some questions about salary caps and stuff like that and why don’t we do this, why don’t we do that? That kind of gives you a full overview of all the trade possibilities, how we how it would work, who would have to be involved. I don’t know. For for me, again, for me, if I had to choose of those one, two, three, four, five trade possibilities plus vouch, let’s say six trade possibilities. The only one that I that I would do is the Malik Monk one. That’s the only one that I would do just because it’s for the amount that we’re giving up and what we’re getting in return. I feel like that’s worth the that’s worth the gamble. Whenever you do a trade, it’s kind of a gamble as it is on how they’re going to fit onto our team and yak yuck. So, that’s what I would do. Again, if we get Vu via buyout, that’s great. We’d have to do a little finagling to get under the salary cap, but uh that’s something that Jeff has been shown now to be very aggressive. So, that’d be great. We don’t have that much draft capital to be messing with, but you know, uh I don’t know how what position of strength he’ll be able to work from, but that’ll be that’ll be that’s why he gets paid the big bucks. So, for me, that’s not a big deal. the rest of them. Here Simons know, you know, again with the Lakers, if we’re able to to to do a few more things, maybe same thing with the Phoenix Suns one. The Phoenix Suns one would probably be my my second choice of all the of all the the other options for trades. But that’s uh you know, that’s that for the salary cap. Again, pause if you need to pause, rewind if you need to rewind, write in the comments if you have questions. I’ll be able to be able to answer. So, that’s all the money talk having to do with all the trades for that there. Lastly, like I like I mentioned, we’ve added a new two-way player. So, right now, we have two of our two-way spots taken. We have one more left. So, we’ve added Jamal Kane to the show or to the show to the team. He’s he’s a very athletic wing. So, if I’m going to start playing the highlights, and I’ll talk a little bit while while those are while those are playing. So, he’s pretty athletic if you see. Wh There’s a nice alley. Uh he’s a very good cutter. It looks like he’s a bit inconsistent when it comes to shooting the threes. So, of course, these are highlights. So, he’s going to he’s going to hit a bunch of the threes that he shoots in on this on this video. But, as you see, he’s a good roller to the basket. He’s he’s good at cutting, which is great with all the spacing we should be creating with all the three-point shooting that we’re going to have this year with Tai shooting and Jaylen back shooting and Fron’s not with that weird hitch that he does and all this other stuff Desmond coming in the new 3D shooting threes. I let’s hope that that’s going to be something that uh would open things up and if Jamal has to play then he’s open or he’s again available to do the cutting because that’s that’s something that that Tristan was doing pretty good at a bit last year when he was in. So hopefully if Jamal has to play then the the lanes are wide open for him to be able to do these cuts. So again he’s a it’s possible for him to shoot threes. He hasn’t been the greatest, but again, the Magic haven’t been the greatest, so he he’d fit right in. At least fit right in last year. This upcoming year, we’re going to be good at shooting threes. So, uh, he’s going to be one of our poorer shooter threes. So, for his career, 81 games, 4.7 points per game, two rebounds, five assists. So, nothing to write home with. Again, a lot of these guys at the end of the bench, it’s sometimes it’s opportunity, but sometimes it’s just inconsistency. So, like he’s just been inconsistent with a shot. He hasn’t just he’s been developing in the G-League a little bit. He’s been he’s gotten a good amount of run last year with the Pelicans. He had 37 games played. As you know, they were injured, very very injured last year. You may not know, but that’s what it was. 5.3 points per game, two rebounds a game, six assists a game, shot 43% from the field, 32% from three while he was with the Pelicans. His games like if you see a lot of the highlights from those games, they’re they’re in the blowout. So, he wasn’t really even getting so much playing time with the Pelicans as injured as they were. So, it really just shows that uh that he’s definitely he’s he’s developing. He’s working hard. He’s he’s holding on for dear life in that NBA dream. So hopefully he’s he’s found something this summer and he’s able to really use that athleticism as you see in these in these highlights to not only thrive and be in the dunker spot like most of the time he is in a lot of these a lot of these highlights, but he’s able to to get that shot better. he can be the the trelining queen that uh we need this year because again, we’re only going into the season with the minimum amount of players on the on the team. So, we’re going to likely need to activate our our two-way guys. So, they better be ready to be honest at this point. Hopefully, we’re not going to need them too much due to injury. But either way, they they can only because we only have 14 players starting the season or 14 players on roster. Our two-way guys, all three of them could max play 90 games. So, that’s going to be the the thing as well that we have to monitor that again. hopefully we don’t have to worry about because of injury and we’re going to be healthy and all of that, but uh let’s just make sure that you know let’s hope that’s not the case. And the but when he did get just to put a button on all these numbers the last seven games he played seven games he scored 14.7 points, four rebounds.9 assists. You know, I’m I’m cherrypicking n the seven games. Those are the last seven games of last year when he had he ended up with a lot of playing time just because their season had been over a long time ago, but uh for whatever reason, he got into the game. So, he was able to produce on those seven games. He’s not going to likely have to be on the court too much again because we’re going to be healthy this year, but if he ended up having to get a good amount of uh run in any of these games, then he can he’s a he can score. And that really that’s all we can that’s all we can ask. If he can shoot 36% from three, that’s going to go a long way to for him to see to see the court. Defensively, it’s he’s also not like he’s athletic as you see. So, as long as we get him into the system, the system is what it is. And we get him working and and needing to prove himself because I believe this is the last year. Yes, this is this will be his fourth year. This will be his last year to be eligible for a two-way. So, he really needs to to stick as best as possible this year. So, that could be a benefit for us in the Magic. So, so yeah. So, that’s that’s Jamal. A little bit about Jamal. I’m gonna start Oops. Let’s put that there. So, I’m gonna just to give you a bit of a preview on here. As you see, I have different backgrounds every so often. I I travel a lot. So, uh, I’m I always am going to be bringing you guys along with me, but just know that they’re going to have different backgrounds and things are going to be a little bit different. Sometimes I might not have my mic, might not have my my ring. We’re having trouble with the ring now. So, it is what it is. But, uh, for the rest of this summer, uh, I’m trying to make content every day. If it if it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen, unfortunately. But, that’s the that’s the plan. I have a small child at home. He’s a six-month-old. So, sometimes daddy duty is is what it is. And and I that that’s the number one job. So, so we’ll see what it is. I’m going to try to pump out content every every day. If not, it’s every other day, but definitely minimum three times a week all the way through the the off season. So, you’re going to see some more things pumping out. Uh, I don’t want to do all the trade rumor stuff. That’s not really a strength of mine. But I’m going to be start doing a player evaluations, so to give a bit more of a scouting report on each one of the players, what they’re good at, hopefully what they’re working on this summer, so that next year they’re able to to succeed as best as possible. So, I’ll do kind of like a big project once a week. I want to do like a retrospective of the of the team as a whole. I’m really deep diving into the history. I want to give that uh like looking at the statistics of of my videos most of the guy 98% guys and mostly 35 to 54 years of age. So that brings us to all the guys that that were there at the beginning in 90 89 and then some people that don’t even remember the Shack era. So this is the this is why I want to start doing a bit of the history of the team just so that I can learn some stuff which I’ve already started learning a bunch of cool stuff. 1. No thanks we need to get to the trade deadline and then go all in for the players that will take us deep into the playoffs, no matter what position it is!

  2. Perhaps a discussion on keeping Goga…make Wendell and JI as well as Jett available in trade scenarios…money wise we can wiggle under the apron and supplement our young core. No Simmons as well lol if u can't D up then Orlando is not the place

  3. I'm not saying I wouldn't love to keep all however I believe those 3 are the best available options all around to be dealt and benefit our atmosphere

  4. Mac and Jace? For even 3 mins I think would be electrifying..a Lil small ball but dam… considering all the pieces we have in place I think would be stunning
