Former NBA champion wants to join the Knicks. The Knicks are becoming one of the most attractive teams in the entire NBA. The roster, the new head coach, the New York market, but more importantly, the chance to win a championship. If you put all of that together, it’s no wonder so many players want to join the Knicks. And now you can add another name to that list. According to reports, former NBA champion Kevin Love wants to join the Knicks. Shout out to NBA Central on the app X for giving us this following information. According to Jake Fischer, an NBA insider with Yahoo Sports, he states the following about Kevin Love reportedly wanting to join a glamour market like New York or LA, according to Fiser. So, with Kevin Love, to my understanding, he really only wants to be in the big glamour markets. I do think it would mostly be something along the lines of Kevin Love going to a New York or to a Los Angeles type of situation. So, we’ll see if that can materialize for him. Much respect to Kevin Love and his NBA career. He’s a former NBA champion and he definitely deserves respect. And if we were talking about Kevin Love, maybe 10 years ago, you know what? Maybe even five years ago, we would be talking about an entirely different story. But right now, Kevin Love today, he is not the same player he used to be. 36 years old and is not even close to putting up the numbers he used to put up when he was a prime player in the NBA. Kevin Love isn’t the same player anymore. He doesn’t average the same type of numbers anymore. And even though I feel like if he came to the Knicks and he was actually given an opportunity, I know he could contribute, he could shoot threes, he could get some rebounds, he could do a little bit for any team that he joined. The problem is the Knicks do not need a player like Kevin Love at this point in time on the roster, especially not at 36 years old. 30, maybe 31. Okay, fine. We’re talking about something significant at this point in time. There is no reason to think about Kevin Love joining this team. Age, ability. He cannot have the same impact that he used to have when he was in his prime. Even when he was off his prime, a few years off of his prime, he could still contribute at a very high level in the NBA. But today, that’s just not true. I like Kevin Love. I like the fact that he still wants to play basketball and I do respect the fact that if he’s bought out by the Utah Jazz, he wants to join either New York or LA. That tells you that the Knicks market is very attractive right now. And while I respect that, we do not need this version of Kevin Love on the roster. Can he contribute still? Absolutely. But his contributions, they would be limited. And if the Knicks were looking for a forward type of player in free agency, I would be screaming Chris Buché till I was blue in the face because that’s the target if New York is looking for a forward. He’s younger. He has chemistry with OG Anobi. He plays good defense. He’s aggressive. Honestly, if New York wants a solid backup behind OG Anobi and Mikuel Bridges, you can do no better than Chris Bucher right now in free agency. So, even if they wanted a forward, I wouldn’t want them to wait and try to target Kevin Love. I would rather them go after Chris Bucher. But as we all know, according to the latest reports, the Knicks are looking to use that final vet minimum contract on a veteran guard in free agency, not a veteran wing or forward. So that means players like Kevin Love and Chris Bush, they’re off the list. So if they’re off the list, what players are currently available that the Knicks can use that vet minimum contract on? Well, shout out to Evan Cedid from Forbes for breaking down all of this information for us. According to Evan Cedary, these are the best available unrestricted free agents at this point in time. Gary Payton II, Ben Simmons, Russell Westbrook, Trey Lyles, Malcolm Brogden, Chris Bucher, Thomas Bryant, Amir Kofi, Cody Martin, Precious Aua, Delano Baton, Campaign, Don Wright, Markeel Folultz, Alec Burks, Tory Craig, and Landry Shamut. Now, let’s first cross off some names on this list that New York will not target. You can look at basically all the forwards or centers on this list. New York will not be adding any of them. That means Chris Bucher, Thomas Bryant, Cody Martin, Precisa, all of these guys, they are not going to be players that New York will target with that vet minimum contract. Honestly, there have been a few names currently linked to the Knicks more than some of these other names here. Ben Simmons, Russell Westbrook, Malcolm Brogman, and Landry Shammit. Those are the four names, at least the four main names that have been linked to the Knicks during free agency. And out of all of those names, it seems like the Knicks, and I hate to say this, but it’s true. It does seem like New York has the most interest in signing and adding Ben Simmons. I don’t like it. Some of you guys don’t like it. But if you take a second and try to understand the move, you might understand why they’re looking at Ben Simmons. He’s tall. He can guard multiple positions. He can playmake. He can rebound. again when he’s healthy and he’s not crumbling from the pressure of playing in New York, then sure, on paper, Ben Simmons could work. But according to reports about Simmons, he might actually end up with the Boston Celtics. With regards to Russell Westbrook, the problem with Westbrook is he wants a larger role. He wants to play more minutes. And unfortunately, New York cannot offer that type of role to him. But at this point, the teams he wants to join, they’re starting to add other players. That means they have no more room for Westbrook. The last team that is above New York right now in the Russell Westbrook sweep stakes in free agency is the Sacramento Kings. And if the Kings don’t add Westbrook, then it’s a clear path open for New York to add the former MVP to this roster. The only problem is it’s really playing time. If playing time wasn’t an issue, I think Westbrook would have joined New York a long time ago. But because playing time is very important to him, he is weighing all of his options. So Westbrook may not factor into what the Knicks are looking to do next season. That just leaves Landry Shamut and Malcolm Brogden. And in this scenario, it really depends on what you want. Do you want a ball handling point guard, Malcolm Brogden, or do you want a guard who can shoot that three ball extremely well, Landry Shamut, who also has chemistry with this Knicks team already? Again, Landry Shamut. That’s likely going to be the decision that Leon Rose and this Knicks front office are trying to make right now. They’re trying to decide who should they add to this team, Brogden, Shamid, Simmons, or Westbrook. I think at the top of their list is Ben Simmons. Right after him is Russell Westbrook. And then after that, I kind of think it’s Malcolm Broden and then Landry Shamut. Only because all the reports seem to indicate the Knicks are looking for a veteran guard with ball handling control and the ability to run an offense when Jaylen Brunson is off the floor. And who can do that out of all the players I just listed? Westbrook can do it. Ben Simmons, I guess he can do it on paper, but Broden, he can definitely do it. He’s a point guard after all, and he’s not a liability when he’s out there on the floor. The only issue with him is his injury past. The same thing is true, by the way, for Ben Simmons. So, if you like Simmons, you should really love Brogden, cuz essentially they do the same thing. The only difference is Ben Simmons is scared of the moment and he’s a little bit taller and Broadden, he’s a little bit shorter, but he’s not scared. He’s aggressive and off the bench. He’ll give you an impact that you’re definitely going to need as a championship team looking to go all the way to the NBA Finals next season. Whether it’s Ben Simmons, Russell Westbrook, Malcolm Brogden, or Landry Shamut, either way, we know New York is focused on a guard, not a forward. That means even though I want players like Chris Buchet on this team, it’s not going to happen. That means even though Kevin Love wants to join New York, wants to be with the Knicks, wants an opportunity to win a championship in a quote unquote glamour market like the Knicks have, it’s just not going to happen for him. New York doesn’t want him. New York doesn’t want to add him. And New York is not even looking in his direction. Whether he’s bought out or not, it doesn’t matter to New York because right now they’re firmly focused on adding a veteran guard in free agency to this team and nothing else is on their mind. But what about you guys? What do you think about former NBA champion Kevin Love wanting to join the Knicks if and when he’s bought out by the Utah Jazz? Let me know how you feel about that in the comment section below, guys, because honestly, I would love to hear from you. But that’s going to do it for this episode. 1. I would take a healthy (and grown up) Simmons over Love any day BUTTT getting him wouldn't Make us worse, He's actually a gritty tough defender That can come in if everyone is just toasting Kat /maybe Huck in foul trouble etc And at the same time, he's a big man that could bang threes, there will always be a market for a decent big man That can stand in the corner and hit wide open shots that are kicked to him

  2. I mean, Westbrook or Payton would just be sick, I think both of them could contribute pretty much right away but I don't think we'll get that lucky… Westbrook would just be huge even at this stage, He's still flying around, making offenses and defenses rip their hair out

  3. Kevin love are we looking to build a handicap team or Championship team. Westbrook H NO it will be problems and NY don't definitely need a problem child. . Come on Troy

  4. We absolutely do not need an OVER-THE-HILL player like Kevin Love!
That's like allowing AARP Joe Biden to be President again, it will be a DISASTER!

  5. Like Simmons,I don't want him here either. L.S.,K.M.,M.B.,C.B.,and one other dude. No to westbrick. Give me Landry,or Malcolm.

  6. Shocked he is t trying to get on Minnesota in his probably last season. Problem with Love to me is his pay, and play 😆 probably should try Brooklyn out

  7. I'll take K -love. He would be a good backup center/ forward. K.L can strech the floor and set good screens and be a good lockerroom guy.
