Jeff Teague says Cam Thomas MESSED UP, should have taken Nets contract offer | Club 520

For sure. Hey man, before we get out of here, um we never talk about basketball here, but this is funny. Uh y’all see the Cam Thomas situation? I haven’t. What do you do? Uh basically, um he feels like he got low ball by the Nets. Uh they basically offered him two year at 14 year basically. Two year 28 I believe something like that. Okay. And it’s just like, you know what I’m saying? He don’t feel the value. And a lot of people around the league is saying, you know what I’m saying? It’s a lot of people who are quote unquote bench players is asking for this money. And you remember you talking about this about the money drying up for specialists. M um is that role going to be super niche now in the NBA? People who they just deem just can only get buckets and just get buckets. Yeah, it’s always been that role. That’s why this is no shade when I’m saying this. But when you get put in that mode, in that role Yeah. you always get underpaid. Now Lou Williams got underpaid his whole career. Yeah. He definitely should have that made 10 million a year. Yeah. He he bring he brought way more to the game than just scoring cuz he was actually obviously know he could score. He was a bucket, but he a hell of a teammate. Hell of a dude. But when you get put in that row, like you never see too many just scores that come off the bench sixman just straight scoring specialist get super paid. I mean it’s rare that you see that unless you superstar superstar like we think about it like Jamal Crawford is a great player. Yeah, he got paid when he was a starter, but when he came to six man a year, I think the most he probably got 15 14 million, but you would think somebody like him with the scoring potential. Manoy. Yeah, 14 million. You would think they would be But Mano was a better player. He was more than a scorer, but you would think they made 25 million a year. No fact. And then when you go look at it, it’s like, damn, he only cuz you got one row. Even like Jordan Clarkson and them, they getting paid. But 14, 15, 16 million, that’s about your range. Yeah, it ain’t far off. The Nets ain’t they ain’t disrespect him really. I mean, I know he averaging 24. So that’s what he looking at production, but they looking at more as like you doing this on our bad Nets team and he looking at like, yo, I got potential to be a superstar. Like I got potential to be one of the guys, but they just don’t see that in him. They still looking for the guys. If they thought he was the guy, they would take him like the guy, but they don’t see him as the guy and he look at himself as the guy. Like, I’m one of them. And that’s the worst thing that happened to you in a lot of different things. Being typ cast into a row and it’s just like this is what y’all wanted me to do. Y’all wanted me to get out here, get buckets, put ass, be electrified, and now it’s time to get paid. Like, ah, we don’t want that. Yeah. But for me as a young dude, um, for him, like maybe he signs the qualifying offer, he goes out there and he kills. Yeah. Well, for me, I’m tell I’mma sign that deal. Give me a player option, whatever it is, and I’m going out and I’m outplay it cuz you always want to solidify that first one. Like, you don’t want to be out here. I told Shebass Muhammad the same thing, man. I remember he when I first got to the uh Minnesota, he had told me turned down a four-year 40. I said, “Nigga, are you dumb?” He was like, “I’m worth more than that. I’mma I’mma outplay it.” I’m like, “No, you’re not. They not going to give you a chance to outplay it.” Mhm. Like you’re never going to get that chance to outplay that. So you he don’t want to be in position where he don’t get a chance to outplay it cuz managing if he got that qualifying offer might be like 7 million. I don’t know what his qualifying offer is. Yeah. And he going to get no tick. Ugly. I’m not going to say he ain’t gonna get no tick cuz he good enough to play. But just imagine they like, “Yo, we going to go with the draft picks and these guys.” And they just start [ __ ] with his minutes. Now when you solidify as a 14 million on that team, you going to play. We paying this kid 14 million. you going to at least get on the court. Yeah. And they had five first round picks last round. They might You don’t want to get caught in up and just like, yo, we Hey, we losing anyway. We might as well just see what these young guys got. But yeah, it’s very slim that you beat the business of basketball. You’re not. And they do that to humble you, too. Yeah. But it’s just like why would we play Cam? He obviously he gonna be an unrestricted free agent. Yeah. We probably be able to sign him back. [ __ ] it. You either gonna get traded or they just gonna sit you on the bench and you probably ain’t get to rock like you want to rock if the organization [ __ ] up. Yeah. And if you don’t go the way that they want you to go being a constant professional even though everything is going against your way now you even worse as a type cast a bad teammate. You pout you complain on top of you already being like in a narrow lane. It’s like this cards is really stacking against your career. Yeah. He gota he got to lowkey think about that like 14 million ain’t a bad living. Obviously, you want more, but put just, you know, get that certify that contract. Yeah. Yeah. Speaking of contracts be, you know what I’m saying? The market set right now for the backup roles. They’re waiting to see what happens between Russ and your boy Ben Simmons. Backup. They said I’m saying that’s the market set. You know what I’m saying? Who gets signs between those two is going to be what goes forward for the next person. So, a lot of teams are interested. Both of them, but they still holding out. What’s up, man? I don’t know, man. might be a Celtic. If Ben is a Celtic, I’ll be grateful for that. It’s a bad year to be a Celtic though. No, it ain’t. I mean, a good a good year for him cuz he might get an opportunity. Yeah. Yeah. But like a bad year cuz then we might, you know, if they win a little something, it’d be all right. Y’all think Ben Simmons can bounce back? I’m being real. I know we always joke about it. You think he can really bounce back? I think it’s over. MIP, bro. I think that he can be a contributor. I don’t think he can get back to Allstar status right now. I don’t want to count him out, but I don’t see that right now. I do. I think he can go on the team and contribute because he knows the game of basketball. He’s defensive minded. He can impact the game. Allstar Ben Simmons, am I expecting to see that going forward? No. You know, with an underrated signing that just happened for me. Houston Rockets getting JD Davidson on me. I was going to bring that up, too. He got waved for Boston and they definitely picked him up. For some reason, man, I think he gonna get an opportunity because um the way Houston play, they throw people out there like you’ll get a shot. Like you see how Aaron Holidayiday, no disrespect to Aaron, I thought he was probably I ain’t going to lie, I thought he was out the league and then you’ll see him in the game. Yeah. I’m like damn Aaron Holidayiday still playing like they throw people out there. Obviously Reed Shepard going to get the first crack at it. He going to play but he athletic enough, skilled enough, and he can guard that he might get a shot out there. And you know, MA already was tapped in from Boston. I [ __ ] with J. So imagine, you know what I’m saying? Not to compare the two, but if you replace K Whitmore with JD Davidson, we all high on him. I’m definitely glad he got an opportunity. Yeah. I hope I hope he signed a um a for real deal and not like a two-way. I hope he get a chance to just try to crack the rotation because I think you went MVP in the G- League and kill the G-League like that. He deserve that. He a hell of a player, bro. And that’s a team where, like you said, boy, he he could get a chance to really crack the rotation possibly. I don’t know what Boston was doing with him. It take one injury or, you know, not a moment. Yeah. Not to wish injury on anybody, but you know, it’s part of the game. That’s all it take. And he in a system that kind of fit him. Yeah. They going to be aggressive guard. They like athletes. And that’s him. Boston was more of a control setting. Yeah. You got to shoot threes. Yeah. If you don’t shoot threes with Boston, you ain’t gonna be on Boston long. The way they shooting them, they shooting 673s. Yeah. Make or miss. You going to shoot these regardless. I think he going to be straight though. Yeah. But imagine, boy, fast break with him and twin on the wings. He dynamic. Yeah, he athletic as hell. So, I’m happy they signed him. It should be interesting, though. I’m I’m I’m excited about the Houston Rockets. I hope they live up to what we all thinking cuz they they didn’t stacked up this year. Yeah, they can make some noise again. They could be top four again. Yeah, they they better be. They better honestly the expectations is high for that team. They better be top three. Yeah. After the offseason they had you got to you got to go crazy. I know some people know what I’m saying. The Clippers is very very high expectations in the West as well. OKC bounce back as well. But you got to show with that some competition out there though. Y’all love the Clippers. I know we gonna talk about it tomorrow, but do y’all love them? Like, do y’all love I’m So, you have everything that you need to do to execute. I saw the injuries. If they come up short, I’m not saying they got to win a championship, but they should be definitely looking to be in the conference finals. I I like how they revamped their team from Paul George. Yeah. Like they did a they did a hell of a job like to get Bradley Bill to replace Paul George basically smart. I think he gonna get the same amount of production. I don’t think Brad is gonna be the Brad that we know getting 32 points and all that [ __ ] See, got to he’s gonna average 20 though. I don’t know if I see 20 just because the way they team James for James still to be good. Obviously, we know James can play point guard, but you still need James Harden to get 20 points. Like aggressive James Harden is the the best James Harden. Agreed. If James Harden is just passing and chilling, that ain’t the best James Harden. But if he making a defense collapse though, bro, you got that’s aggressive. That’s aggressive, right? You got two killers, [ __ ] on your wings and you got a dump down in your big and you got John Collins that run the floor exceptionally well. Yeah. I mean, but if James Harden go full point guard mode where he’s saying, “Look, I’mma average 17 and 10, then Bradley Bill has to average 20 something.” Yeah. I think he capable. He has the only way the only way that has to show Bradley Bill has to be like back to old Bradley Bill for James Harden to take that role. And if Bradley Bill is not like Washington Bradley Bill then James Harden got to be a 20 point scorer. I think he’ll get that just because you know Kawhi takes his time during the regular season. So he going to get a little bit more shots than normal playoffs. So it be a 20. We’ll see. But Big Zoo got to get his touches as well. I think John Collins is probably going to sacrifice the most as far as touches wise. He’s still going to have solid numbers.

Jeff Teague, DJ Wells, and B Hen react to the DRAMA between Cam Thomas and the Brooklyn Nets after Cam declined the Nets’ contract offer. Jeff talks about how Cam should have taken the deal, because NBA 6th man scorers have been getting underpaid for years, and you don’t want to be the one leaving a bag on the table and a bigger bag doesn’t come.

  1. I could be wrong but I swear this the only sports podcast where they really get into the ins and outs of what be going on. Just hearing the perspective is an eye opener like damn it’s Really not just a game, it’s a business and the politics are Real!

  2. Naz Reid got paid Cam should’ve explored being a playmaker they just view him as as a guy that’s gone take all the shots

  3. Ben simmons can be the celtics point forward they got derrick white who can guard multiple positions, shoot & make plays while afernee can score plus jaylen brown leading the team

  4. I think it’s bc he’s boring. Cam gets buckets but something about him just doesn’t jump off the screen. Boring game, boring team, boring name and he has an attitude. Not hating on the man but nothing about him screams superstar

  5. The stats don't translate to winning basketball & wouldn't be as much volume scoring in a winning situation he'd need to become more efficient to be viewed a lil different

  6. 3:00 so smart from Jeff. “They’re not going to give you the chance to out play it”. For sure. Why would they give a guy more minutes to take more of their money?

  7. If Norman Powell averaged over 20 pts per game, yall don't see Beal averaging at least 20??

  8. He needs to humble himself. Yeah bro you can get buckets that’s nice but so can tons of dudes. If you can’t defend and you can’t playmake for others teams not gonna pay you the big bucks

  9. Jeff Teague gives that real NBA veteran game to these young guys in the league. He has been there. You better listen. Everybody knows Cam can score, but listen to what Teague says. The team decides your role. If the owner and GM tells the coach not to play you as much out of spite, then….what is the coach going to do? I hope it doesn't happen that way and I hope Cam is able to hoop and eventually gets the money that he wants.
