Jay Huff Is a Silent Killer – Pacers Might’ve Hit Gold

The Indiana Pacers made a move this off seasonason that won’t hit your phone like a wge bomb, but trust me, this one’s got juice. Jay Huff is officially headed to Indiana, and I’m here to tell you why this trade might age like fine wine. The Pacers sent a 2029 second rounder originally from Portland and a 2031 second round pick swap to the Grizzlies. But why are they even doing this? Well, it’s because the center position in Indiana is looking really thin. Miles Turner just left for Milwaukee, signed a big deal. And Tony Bradley is the only big man on the roster. Yeah, you heard that right. Just one center. And that’s why the Pacers really needed to make this Jay Huff move work. Now, I know what some of y’all are thinking. Jay Huff, dude, who is that? Well, let me put you guys on real quick. Jay Huff’s been quietly leveling up in Memphis. Last season, he started on a two-way contract and by October played himself into a 4-year NBA contract. He played 64 games last year and even got playoff minutes with the Grizzlies. He averaged seven points and two boards, sure, but those numbers don’t tell the full story. Huff is a stretch big who can space the floor, hit the three. He shot a career 40.4% from deep, and he’s got that sneaky athleticism that catches dudes sleeping. Taylor Jenkins, his coach in Memphis, has this to say. At 7-1, he’s running the floor, catching lobs, spacing the floor, and doing things a lot of bigs just can’t do. This isn’t your typical rim protector. This is a modern five who thrives in space. And that’s exactly what Indiana needs in their uptempo offense. Now, if you’ve watched any of the Pacers from last year, you know how they do. Fast-paced offense, high tempo, a lot of ball movement, and open shots. And you know, Hallebertton likes to push the break. Granted, he does have an ACL injury that will take him out this whole season, but they have Andrew Nimhard and Ti McConnell who can help fill the gap. Now, imagine Huff trailing on these transitions. He can spot up from deep or he can catch lobs. This is a 7 foot one center with 67% true shooting percentage. And his game is built on efficiency, a lot of screen setting, spacing, rolling, and picking his spots. He’s not flashy, but he’s surgical. Think of poor man’s Brook Lopez with a lot better knees. And if you’re still not convinced that Jay Huff is exactly what the Pacers need, just go take a look at the uh the videos that have been posted at the NBA’s Player Association sanctuary scrimmages in Spain. He is dominating. He’s out there euro stepping, running fast breaks like a guard, dunking everything and hitting three balls like it’s nothing. Now look, I’m not saying Jay Huff is going to be an all-star, but in a world where teams are trying to find the perfect stretch big who can shoot, defend, and run in transition, Indiana might have just found a diamond in the rough, and they only paid a paperclip and a handshake. With Miles gone and the front court wide open, Huff could be in the rotation from day one. And in a system like Indiana’s built around playmaking, movement, and spacing, he might just be the perfect piece that no one saw coming. The Indiana Pacers have officially traded for Jay Huff, and this might be one of the smartest under-the-radar moves of the offseason. Standing at 7’1”, Huff brings shot-blocking, rim protection, and floor spacing that could fill a crucial gap in Indiana’s rotation. Could he be the perfect complement to Tyrese Haliburton and the rest of the Pacers core?

In this video, we break down why Jay Huff’s skillset fits the Pacers’ system, what fans can expect from him this season, and how this trade could make a bigger impact than people think. Don’t underestimate this move—it might be the one that pushes the Pacers further up the Eastern Conference standings.
