The Quentin Grimes Situation Just Took A HUGE Turn! | Jared McCain Is Back COOKING In The Gym!

The 76ers contract negotiations with Quinton Grimes just took a major turn after this latest news. We’ll talk about that. Also, Jared McCain finally back in the gym putting in some work on the practice floor and we will talk about whether or not he can return to form this upcoming season. Sixers certainly need it. And last but not least, a roster move is made, but what does it signal about the future ahead? We’ll break it all down, but welcome in to Philly Take with RB. Ladies and gentlemen, do me a huge favor. Hit that notification bell. Don’t miss any of the videos. The Sixers are still in limbo right now. They’re in wait and see mode as it relates to Quinton Grimes. We’ll talk about him in a second. And I want to just take a little deeper of a look at the free agent market and just kind of determine, you know, where the Sixers are at and what they can really do. So, we’ll get into that. But first and foremost, the Sixers wave Ricky Council IVth. Now, the reaction from the online presence, right, the Sixers fan base on Twitter primarily was, “Oh my gosh, this is a crazy move. This is absolutely brutal. This is terrible.” And when you think about Ricky Council last season averaged 7.3 points, 2.9 boards in about 17 minutes per game. This puts the Sixers now at 13 roster spots and 9.7 mil below the first tax apron. Before we talk about the financial stuff, Ricky Council, right? Like he was a promising undrafted piece, right? A nice wing, showed a lot of depth. Everybody goes back to that game in his rookie year at the end of the season, Sixers versus Spurs. We were live streaming. It went to OT, but Ricky Counsel made one of the best passes I’ve ever seen. a wrap around to the corner and his impact was great. He had a couple of those big hurrah games off the bench and you’re like, “Wow, this guy’s a steal.” But let’s call a spade a spade. Last year when the Sixers were depleted and they needed help and they were playing a bunch of GLeague guys, Ricky Councel couldn’t even stay on the floor. So, as much as I like Ricky and I still think he has promising potential, when it was time to show up, he didn’t show up. Matter of fact, sometimes he did show up and he became a shot trucker and he was, you know, shooting 10 shots in the span of 5 minutes and he couldn’t find the basket and it was just a really weird like fall off for Ricky Council and it sucks. I still feel like he didn’t get consistent minutes early on which kind of threw off his mentality and I’m sure some team will pick him up but the Sixers get rid of Ricky Council. We knew it was coming. The question was what does it mean now as we move forward into the future? So, 13 roster spots. We presume one of them will be filled by Quinton Grimes, right? And we’ll see what the money is on that, but I mean, will it ever happen? Now, if we think back the last couple of years, the Sixers have actually taken this approach to the season. They go into the season with one roster spot unoccupied, and they claim that it is for leverage and flexibility, but I’ll be completely honest, I am done with that notion. Right? A couple years ago, the Sixers cut Charles Bassie and Isaiah Joe. The infamous story where they go into the season with an open roster spot. Doc Rivers claims that they’re going to add someone big at the deadline. And what do they do? They duck the tax, they keep that roster spot, and then in the buyout market, they sign Dwayne Deadman. And that has scarred me for a while. There’s a lot of events that have scarred me as a Sixers fan. That is certainly one of them. So, I don’t care about going into the season with an open roster spot. I think they need to go out and sign somebody. Now, if we look at the open market right now, like I said, there’s not a lot going on and we still think they need a little more forward depth guys that we have proposed in the last, you know, month or so. Chris Bucher and uh who else? Precious Achua, like Nick Nurse, guys, you know, there’s a few others on here, but is anybody really going to move the needle? I mean, who knows? As it relates to free agency, the couple big dominoes still lie in place with Josh Giddy, Jonathan Kaminga, Cam Thomas, and Quinton Grimes. And that takes us to our new twist as Jake Fischer on the Bleacher Report app said this about Quinton Grimes. He is more likely to resign with the Sixers on a short-term contract as any resolution would come next month. He says, “I do not think we’re getting a resolution this week or in July for Quinton Grimes. The Sixers 100% want to bring him back, but they want him at a very strong number. My latest understanding is that Grimes will also, in a similar capacity to Kaminga and Thomas, seem more likely to be signing a short-term agreement with Philadelphia.” So, now you start to get into this territory where it’s a little bit shaky. I’ll be honest because like I said before, you don’t want to piss Grimes off to the point where he resigns but he’s not happy. You know, yeah, I’ll take my one-year qualifying offer that I signed or I’ll take a really small deal and then I’m just going to go out there for my own personal agenda. I’m going to put up the numbers. I’m going to be a shot chucker and I’m not going to really contribute to the team. Now, you could probably look at it and say, “Well, his best interest is to play well, the team to do well, and then another team will come along and give him a big contract next year.” I just think with how things have gone in the past for the Sixers and Daryl my you don’t want to get that rep, and you don’t want to go out here and play hard ball so much to the point where he’s just pissed off or maybe he holds out. I don’t know. It’s a very sticky situation, not just for Grimes, but the other teams as well. And I do think they’re going to end up resigning them. But and don’t get it wrong, I think the Sixers are actually doing the right thing here in trying to get the most value they can, right? Bring that number down as much as you can, but you don’t want to disrespect the guy to where he’s not going to actually care at all about the team. Does that make sense? And if we go to another situation that is ongoing right now, according to Jake Fischer, the Nets have offered Cam Thomas 2 years, $14.1 million per year. Keep in mind Cam Thomas, Quinton Grimes, these are guys that won $25 million under contract. Now, I still think that’s a bit unreasonable when you look at what Cam Thomas did this past season. His numbers were incredible, but you have to keep in mind context and situation. Yeah, he put up 24 points a game. He shot 35% from three, but that was on a team that sucked. Like, they were terrible. And Cam Thomas gets a lot of the same comments, you know, that Grimes got at in the second half of the season. Hey, he was in a bad situation. You know, he could be a shot chucker at times. Gets tunnel vision. I still think these are good players. I think in the current day and age, the current market, their values around like the, you know, 15 to20 million range for some of these guys, but right now teams are offering them 14. Then it’s probably going to go down to 12. I really wonder what the Sixers are offering Quinton Grimes because before I thought it would be what 17 18 mil. I think it’s probably like 12 million right now. That’s probably what they’re offering and that is why Quinton Grimes has not signed his contract yet and this situation is going to continue to drag out. Another one Josh Giddy who had a couple of amazing performances down the end of last season. Couple big triple doubles. Really good player. No market, right? teams don’t have the cap space and the current teams don’t want to overpay and they have the leverage with these guys being RFAS but again they can roll the dice try to run it back next year after playing on a one-year deal but you don’t want to get injured you don’t want to leave money on the table so really tough situation from both sides we’ll see what happens but seems like Grimes might sign on a short-term deal and I guess you can look at that in a good and bad way for the 76ers now speaking of a good and bad way Jared McCain right he went out in a bad way but boy Did he give us a lot in a good way in a short period of time? Shout out to Aaron here sharing this on Twitter. Jared McCain posted this footage as he works his way back from a lateral meniscus repair surgery. And I’m going to say something right now and it might be a hot take. It might be an overreaction in the offseason. I think I might be more excited to watch Jared McCain than any player on the 76ers. Right? VJ’s hype and you know Maxi’s going to improve and all these other guys, right? And you know, Sixers have a lot of good young talent now. But Jared McCain, what we saw in that glimpse of time, like I don’t think people really put it into perspective the right way. People forgot about Jared McCain because the season was so dragged out. It felt so long. Jared McCain was putting up some of the best rookie numbers ever. He broke Sixers rookie records that were held by Allen Iverson in his short period of time. 23 games. He was averaging 15 points per game. And Jared McCain last year, if you remember at training camp, was called the best player by Joel Embiid on day one. Do you think VJ Edgecom is going to be called the best player on day one by Joel Embiid? I’m just wonder. They said, “Oh, he’s just pandering and trying to make the young guy feel good.” No, like he was being for real. Jared McCain was the best player. And here is the workout footage that we get. Glad to see him finally back on the floor. I mean, we’ve seen him walking around at summer league and, you know, the finals and all that. Obviously, he’s a social media personality and Tik Tok and all that, but he’s starting to move a bit better. Whether it’s the movement shooting, whether it’s off the dribble, whether it’s just running the floor. I know he’s a bit undersized. I know it presents some defensive liabilities for the Sixers in the back court. I think it’s a problem you can solve because of how good his natural talent is. Jared McCain is him, man. Like, I’m telling you, if the knee recovers the right way and if he can stay on the floor, I know it’s a big if and it’s scary, but if he can come back to full form like he was last year, I think Jared McCain in a few years could be an all-star. I really do. Based on what we saw in that short period of time, Jared McCain had a sevengame stretch where his averages were this, and shout out to this guy, Why So Serious on Twitter, 26.1 points per game, 2.9 rebounds per game, 4.3 assists per game, and 0.9 steals, 5045 96 split with a 63 effective field goal percentage, 66 true shooting percentage. and he was averaging 9.7 threes per game. Like those are bonkers numbers for a rookie, man. There were just some special performances from Jared McCain. I don’t want him to get lost in the mix because of, you know, how the season went and drafting VJ Edgecom and all that. I do think the whole guard situation is something that has to be figured out. Maybe we get to a point in a few years where you can’t have them all on the team, but right now just talentwise and ability to put the ball in the hoop and just impact the game immediately, just be a a firecracker, you know what I mean? A microwave scorer. I think Jared McCain can really really make his impact this season. So, I am super excited for Jared McCain. And we look at the Sixers off season depth chart. No more Ricky Council. I guess you can plug in Jabari Walker. What do they do? Should they go out and sign one of these minimum free agents? Should they just wait and keep an open roster spot? Can they actually make a trade early in the season? I feel like they always overpromise and underdel on that. So, give me your thoughts down below. What do you think about this roster? Appreciate everybody for tapping in. Be sure to like, comment, and subscribe. And as always, I will catch you on the next one. Peace.

The Sixers offseason continues without a Quentin Grimes contract extension, but today’s news put a huge twist in the situation. With a few other RFAs getting lowballed as well, it’s starting to look like Grimes could play this year out on a 1-year deal. Is this a good or bad thing for the Sixers? In a more promising light, Jared McCain is back working out in the gym and looks to be making some positive strides. Lastly, Ricky Council IV gets waived… but will the Sixers go into the season with an open roster spot? Today, we discuss it all!

  1. I’m very hyped to see Jared McCain play too!!! I’m glad he did not rush back and I hope he is good by October/November. I don’t even care about Joel anymore. I’ll be satisfied if we keep grimes and the line up goes;

    Maxey
    Grimes
    PG
    Watford
    Bona/Drummond

  2. I like Grimes, I do, but it's not like he played for us the whole season. None of our core was there, so he got #1 playing time and shots, so how do you fit with everyone and NOT get even half the shots you saw? I think he needs to come back to earth a little bit especially with the cap being what it is now

  3. 9:55 I don’t even consider JMac undersized anymore because look at the dude. Sure he’s only 6’3” but look at those legs and shoulders the guy is built like a tank.

  4. People want Kuminga and I honestly I don’t know why there is not more buzz to try and make a move for Josh Giddey who I feel like would fit this team perfectly since he’s big enough to play PF on defense but PG on offense.

  5. Ricky council NVR learned anything because Nick nurses is our coach.. Nick nurse will continue to suck the sixers will continue to suck along with him because we're owned by rich fks like Josh Harris

  6. Nobody's saying what really needs to be done , trade Maxey, since we can't trade Embid. Our backcourt is straight with grimes in the rotation, Maxey generates stats but not wins

  7. Definitely have to resign Grimes
    – I don't agree but I understand the loyalty storyline to bring Lowry back for 1 more year & then he will retire
    – Eric Gordon was going to opt in but they made a secret deal to lower salary cap
    – I like Council but he had to be waived to open up a roster spot as Council hasn't proved he can be a consistent 3 point shooter
    – Sixers could trade Oubre & Drummond & Gordon & Draft Picks for PJ Washington
    – But definitely trade Gordon & Drummond ASAP
    – I think Grimes will resign for the 14th Roster Spot
    – OPTIONS FOR THE 15TH ROSTER SPOT –
    – Not in any particular order
    1. Precious Achiuwa- could help at PF & Center
    2. Tre Lyles- Could help at PF & Center
    3. Chris Boucher- Could help at PF & Center
    4. Thomas Bryant- Center depth bc Drummond might be traded
    5. Charles Bassey- Center depth bc Drummond might be traded
    6. Bol Bol- PF & Center but probably not a reliable player
    7. Jabari Walker- PF from the 2way Spot
    8. Dominic Barlow- PF from the 2way Spot
    – OR WHAT OTHER PLAYER COULD THEY SIGN

  8. With no other NBA Team willing to make an offer of any type for Grimes, it says a lot. I think he is over playing his hand a little. Grimes is more like a Cam Thomas caliber player. 15 million is a good price for him. Not the 25 million he is asking for

  9. O.G makes 35 million.. thts why these guys think they deserve this money.. players like O.G and Bane making all nba money. I don't care if u put O.G on nets and he has the green lights, he don't get 24 pants a gm..

  10. I think a 1 year deal for Grimes is a bit of leverage for him. That kills all his trade value. A 20 million contract for a solid 2 way guard is very trade able. Especially is Maxey, McCain and VJ are close to what we think they are

  11. So i still dont understand why you can't trade for another rfa. There must be rules i don't know cuz no serious talks about it just fans.
