Behind the Scenes at NBA Summer League 2025 | Las Vegas All Access Sixers Edition
I was like Here we go. [Music] Success. Not We’re stuck with you. Still waiting to get on the plane. Although we were already on the plane and they had three different plans, all of which fell on the road. Now we’re somehow still in Philadelphia 2 hours later. Yes. What comes next? Uh we have to figure out some food. Need to do that. We need to wait and make sure that there’s fuel on the plane. They might strap me to the plane just to make sure I get out. I don’t know. Bri, how willing are you to get stuck to the end of whatever needs to happen? For real. All right, it’s time. [Applause] [Music] They’re going to have that as a hook. They’re not going to run that all the time. They very briefly, you know, more show you’re interested, from the room, you know, that is another measure to us. Minnesota, Cleveland. Day one, summer league. Oh, little V do vibe from super producer free. What’s going on? Day one, summer league. Hopefully she didn’t catch that audio of what I was just saying. Well, we talking to family. Selectively edit now. It’s all good. Yeah, it’s hot outside, of course, but you know, I have my long sleeve when we come inside, so I’m good now. Got my true east coaster. Breakfast, my cake. Your $25 lemon cake, probably. It was like $9 and back home was five. But, you know, it is what it is. Productive morning though. Went to shoot around, talked to Salis, talked to TJ De Leo, saw that VJ’s thumb is uh functional and still on his hand, which is a an upgrade based on the news. After an easy day of travel and a lot of rest, we are ready to go. Oh yeah, we’re we’re real rested up here. I’m tired. I don’t know about them, but I’m tired. did get to see the people set up on the concourse with all the merch and the apparel, the merch and stuff at Thomas and Max. So, should be a good time over there when we do get back over there. Last game for the Sixers for the NBA today is the Sixers. So, we’ll get to see the Spurs minus AJ Edgecom and Dylan Harper. I didn’t even know that. Carter Bryant, the pressure is on, brother. You better do something or I’m going to be really depressed. Yeah. So, game day one, just getting started. Let’s [Music] go. [Music] Oh my god. Oh, sweet. [Music] One eternity later. [Applause] [Music] Well, I’m ready. [Music] [Applause] missed by two. That wasn’t that big of a factor. I mean, the best opportunity basketball wise, you know, it’s going to be the most important thing happen. Um, he’s a great prospect. Um, I’ve known him since he was in Europe. Um, I remember the tournament team. Well, this is weird with me in the middle, by the way. Hey, well, you lead it then. Go for it. No. Sixers get crushed in their first Las Vegas game against the San Antonio Spurs. No VJ Edgecomb. Uh, no. Dylan Harper for the Spurs, but it didn’t. No hope, no joy. No basketball really played. Yeah, it was a They’re calling it the worst basketball game that’s ever been played. I was kidding. But that was a rare game where I don’t know that there was a single positive Sixers takeaway. That was as bad as it gets. I mean, Dominic Barlo was He’s okay. Had some flashes, some rebounding, but is there anything you guys liked about that game? It ended. I liked watching Carter Bryant play defense. That was that kid made some like pterodactyl type plays on weak side blocks and but boy the six are stuck. If we’re being honest I think it’s just getting really tough to evaluate anyone with how bad the guard play is right now. Yeah. And they need VJ Edge to come back in the absolute poor. He he’s clearly the MVP because he made them look a certain way when they played in that one game together in Salt Lake. I will say this though when you talk about how bad the guard play is. We were pretty high on Hunter Salace and he hasn’t really played all that well. Today he did struggle an opportunity to really grab a hold of of the reigns with him DJ not out there, the other guards not really stepping up. It was an opportunity for him and unfortunately again tonight it didn’t show. I think the the problem for him has been a lot of what people were concerned about coming in. Can’t get to the rim. His strength is not there. He’s just getting pushed around and I think he’s getting a little bit stuck in the mid-range where guys are bigger, guys are stronger. It’s just it’s a lot tougher to get to his spots. And and one more before we wrap things up here at Thomas and Max Center is that as you talk about any positives, one of the guys that looked the best was a player that was here a year ago who’s not on the team, Kev Aluma. Hey, my guy again, right? He just he knows that guy come over from he was playing in Japan, I think. Yeah. Get him back over here. Yeah, he maybe maybe he’s, you know, send somebody to Okinawa or whatever. He’s hanging out. He he he looks okay, but granted he’s an older player, so you expect him to be one of the better guys at Summer League. Yeah. So, summer league comes to a close day one and uh listen, they have an opportunity again on Saturday afternoon against Please, BJ. Please, please, peel that thumb up. Do whatever you got to do. [Music] That’s absolutely what we’re calling here from now on. The full crew. I appreciate you guys cover us more than anything. [Music] Hey [Music] All right, day two of the PHLY Sixers team here in Las Vegas for the summer Sixers. An off day for the basketball team, but they did get a practice in where they had an opportunity to get some work in. We got a chance to see at practice VJ Edgecomb get some extra work in as well with assistant coach and personal trainer of course that we all know who he is Rico Hans. So had also an opportunity to speak with some of the executives and some of the front office people about what’s going on the approach of the offseason and how things have gone for the Philadelphia 76ers. So, make sure all of you stay tuned for our sitdown with a big big Philadelphia 76 personnel and see what they had to say about not only summer league right now, VJ Edgecomb’s injury, Janai Broom, but also the offseason in general and improving the basketball team. So, Devon Gibbons along with Bri hanging out with us out here, president of basketball operations out here on the strip. And all of this, of course, presented by Rockman Orthopedics. Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] big adjust his own pace. I like the way he plays defensively as well. [Music] My dog get paid for this. I’ll talk to Saul about that one. So, yes. Thank you. Yes, of course. Thanks, Eddie. Appreciate it, man. All right. [Music] [Music] There you go. The match. All right, back here on the PHLY 6’s podcast. Day three, which is our last day together. All four of us together as we wrap it up here. Derek Ber Divide Given Brie behind the camera. Kyle’s out there finishing as the game is winding down talking to some people. So Derek, uh, pretty pretty successful trip for us. Although VJ Edgecom was not on the floor, um, we had a chance to talk with him, Jared McCain, one-on- ons, Hunter Salis, uh, just speaking with so many people. Tyrese Maxi and Trendon Wford arrived on Sunday. Had a chance to speak with them as well. How would you say our trip was? It’s a weird summer league, right? So, I feel like this is the most exciting young core the Sixers have had in a decade and maybe one of the least interesting oncourt summer leagues that we’ve had in quite a while. I do think from our perspective, it was great. There was a lot of access. We had a lot of interviews, talked to a lot of people both around the team and around the league. A lot of those videos are coming. So, I think it was a very productive trip. Uh, you know, we had some fun both here at the Thomas and Mac and also elsewhere, which maybe we’ll get into later. Maybe not. Maybe it’ll just stay between us. But no, I think it was a great one. You know, I think it’s it’s there’s a lot of excitement around the team. I think you feel that even just talking to people like Tyrese Maxi. I think there’s a lot of excitement for the young kids you’re getting back, both Jared McCain from injury and VJ from the draft. I think there’s a lot of excitement. What did you What did you make of the conversations that we’ve had, not only just at practice where we saw VJ Edgecom working out, uh seeing him of course here at Thomas and Mack, our conversation with him as well. anything stand out since he, you know, was in street clothes? Yeah, I mean, look, I think everyone just agrees that he’s just a tremendously hard worker who’s going to make the most out of his talent, you know, and we’ve talked a lot to people around the team, uh, around the front office, but work with him on a day-to-day basis. And, you know, it’s one thing for one person to say thing something, it’s another thing for everyone that you talk to to say it. He just seems like a great kid who’s really immersed himself even though even though he hasn’t been playing, you know, standing here going through the practices, uh, going through shooting drills, getting really to know Jared McCain specifically. It seems like they’ve spent a lot of time together. Uh, yeah. So, it seems like a productive trip, even if he hasn’t played here in Vegas so far. And one little nugget, too, Jared McCain was VJ’s host at Duke, uh, when he went on his recruiting trip for Duke. So, they go back a couple of years now. So, it’s going to be fun to see those two on on the floor together. And uh listen man, just another year two in the books for us here in summer league. But that’ll wrap it up for us here on this trip. We hope we were able to bring uh just some some different insight, some inside stories from our trip out here, talking to the players, talking to other people uh just basketball people all around Thomas. You always say, man, it’s just good to be here to talk with everybody and uh it’s the mecca of just summer basketball and what it is. So it’s good to be here. So we appreciate everybody. We thank you. Our trip of course and our entire summer is brought to you by Rothan Orthopedics. So make sure you visit rothenorth.comphly if you’re in need of it. We might need it. I might need it especially for my back, my ankles. Um we’ve a lot of walking, lot of lot of everything. So we’ll talk to everybody when we get back to Philly on Monday. We appreciate it.
