5 Miami Heat BURNING Questions During Offseason Ft. Tyler Herro, Kasparas Jakucionis & Terry Rozier

The Miami Heat are going to be a very interesting team this upcoming season. On today’s edition of the Heat Report by Chat Sports, we’re going to look at the five most burning questions about Miami for the rest of this off season, but also how the season will begin in October. I’m Nick Rolloff. This is the Report by Chat Sports. Well, these are questions that I’m posing and answering. But if you have any questions about the Miami Heat, you can hit me up over on X or Twitter. Don’t hesitate. I won’t bite. I promise. My handle is nick_rolloff. We just crossed 2,000 followers. We’re actually at 2100. So, I appreciate everybody who has followed me over this off seasonason because the account has grown pretty largely. But if you haven’t followed me already, please go do so and don’t hesitate to ask any questions. All right, the number one question I think around the Miami Heat the rest of the off season into the season is Tyler Herro. Does he get extended? Remember, he becomes extension eligible in October for a three or $149.7 million deal. Do he does Miami give him that or do they just not or do they extend them for a lower price tag? More information. The window of being able to sign the extension is October 1st to October 20th. So, you don’t really have that much time to really negotiate here. The max extension he could get is 3 for149.7 $49.9 million per season. If he does not get extended this October, he would then be eligible to sign a 4-year $26.9 million extension the following off season. And if he were to somehow make AllNBA, which it’s not the craziest thing in the world to think it’s possible, if the Heat overachieved with all these injuries to players like Tatum, Dame, and Hallebertton who have been an all-star and an allNBA player, then he would become eligible for a five-year, $380 million extension. So, there is a little bit of risk waiting until next off season in case hero breaks out again and becomes an allNBA player when you could hypothetically get him for a much cheaper price tag right now. But I will be very clear on this. I am not extending Tyler Herro if it’s more than $40 million. If you go to Tyler and say, “Hey, we’ll give you three for 120 this October and he accepts it, cool, let’s get it done.” But if he says no and he wants the full three for 150, I think I might pass and just roll the dice and see what happens for another year. Um it would be quite the bummer if he made all NBA. Not for him, but for Miami because then it’s like what do you actually do with someone? Do you trade him or do you pay him the five for 280 or 380? It’s like the Jaylen Brown situation. Like he’s way too overpaid right now, but you also had to pay him at the time. So like that that’s the same thing Miami would be in right now. And if I’m going to predict it, I actually think Miami doesn’t extend him. I know most people are skeptical and are going to be like, they’re just going to give him extension. Pat Riley loves Tyler Herro, which he definitely does. I think Pat Riley might see him as a long- lost son. But I actually believe they will be smart and hold off for a year to see where things go because if the Heats stink and it’s proven that Hero can’t be a top two player on a contending team, then how can you justify giving him an extension like that? So, I think they’re going to give it a year and see what ultimately happens. But you predict it for me. I would retype my ends, but I want to hear what you guys have to say. Does Tyler Herro get extended this October? Why for yes and for no. Number two, it’s not Terry Rosier. We’ll get to him in a bit. I actually think the biggest question outside of Tyler Herro, for me at least, the rest of this offseason into the regular season is how much playing time does the Heat’s 20th overall pick, Casper Yakonis, get? He had a pretty rough summer league. So, does that get parlayed into not a lot of minutes? I mean, we’ll have to see in the preseason and training camp for sure in September. But, I will say Yakonis improved. The California Classic was as bad as it gets, man. I tweeted out a million times. I’m not panicking. I’m not panicking. I’m not panicking, but you could have panicked in those three games. That’s how bad it was. Now, he did perform much better in the Las Vegas Summer League, appearing in three games, having 24 points, six points, and then 15 points, playing a little bit better. Now, there is a lot of things to like from what he showed you throughout the six games that he played. He hustled. He made really good plays defensively, which impressed me a lot more than I expected. like he did the little things and played good defense. So, I think the offense will come. But to answer that question, I don’t really expect a ton of playing time for Casperis if we’re going to be honest. You just think of what Miami has on this roster. I would argue the guard rotation is the most loaded part. That and its wing depth, I would suppose like Hero, Powell, DaVon Mitchell, all ahead of him. So, I guess you could say Casperis would be that point guard number four or number three, but then you also got Pel Larson who is getting a little bit more reps on ball. Nicole Yoic can certainly play more of a point forward type of role. So, if Miami ultimately just decided to say, “Hey, we’re going to take this as like a development red shirt year for Yakoness. He is only 19 years old.” That wouldn’t surprise me whatsoever. And it’s actually something that I could see happening. Absolutely. So, when I’m thinking of Casper Yakonis going forward into the season, I am not going to overreact if he does not play. I do not think it’s the end of the world if he ultimately spends the majority of this rookie season in the G-League. I I really just don’t think that’s that big of an issue considering he is 19 years old. He just needs reps. We can’t have him sitting on the bench not practicing, not playing. He needs to be playing basketball and practicing and playing real live ball reps. So, I absolutely could see him spending most of this time in the G-League and that is kind of how I foresee this season kind of going along. Question number three, do the Heat finally trade Terry Rosier? I teased that we were going to talk about him a little bit ago. Obviously, we’ve talked about this at Nauseium. He’s got a expiring salary worth $26.6 million. Does the Heat just let that expire and use that in free agency next off season or will they try to flip them before the trade deadline? And I will continue to say this, it is without a question he is going to be traded at some point. I give it a 10% chance Miami holds on to him this entire year and then just lets that money expire next summer because there’s a major reason why, and it’s this one. The Heat are $1.4 4 million above the luxury tax. And we know that Pat Riley said earlier this summer that one of the goals for this team was to maybe not guaranteed, but maybe jump out of the luxury tax for this season so they avoid the repeaters tax penalty and then they can go back into it and not have those penalties trigger in in the following years. And when you’re that close to getting under, you would have to imagine Miami will in some capacity try to make a move during the season where they trade a player away to get a salary that is at least $1.5 million less. Maybe it’s Rosier, maybe it’s Wiggins. Heck, it could even be Simony Fonte who makes 8.5 mil. You can trade him away and get someone who makes $7 million on an expiring deal and just kind of let that happen. So there’s different avenues you can go about this, but we know they’re most motivated to get off of Rosier because he actually gives you nothing on the basketball court. So I am going to choose to believe that they do trade Terry Rosier. I do believe it will be during the season near the deadline though, not really in the offseason. Subscribe for more Heat videos. It’s a whole lot of fun. I promise. Question. Numero Quattro. What will the starting backcourt be for Miami? I have a hard time envisioning that hero Wiggins, Bam, and Wear won’t be starting, right? Like I can’t see someone starting in front of Wiggins. I can’t see someone starting in front of Bam and Wear or Hero obviously. So the question is, who is going to be that fifth starter? who is going to be the backcourt partner for Tyler Herro. I might have maybe tried to think and talk myself into Yakonis after we drafted him. Um but I think it’s clear that he’s not going to be ready for that. Unfortunate for me personally. So I think the two players in consideration are obviously DaVon Mitchell and Norman Powell. And if you saw the graphic we threw on screen earlier in the show with the Heat roster, I do have Norman Powell in the starting five. like I lean him and he has been a long time off thebench reserve, but he started this year for the Clippers and he was freaking awesome. It was the best season of his career starting next to James Harden. He was averaging 21 a game on unbelievable efficiency. So, it’s clear that he can start. He’s not like a reserve player. And when you factor in DaVon Mitchell, too, like I love DaVon. He was awesome for my he did a lot. He started about half the games. He came off the bench in half the games. But to me, when I watched the Heat play basketball down the stretch after the trade deadline, I thought specifically with DaVon Mitchell that his best role was coming off of the bench. That to me when he was the most effective. You saw it in the postseason against the Cavaliers, although he did start the last couple of games in that series, didn’t matter. Um, and you saw it in the playin games against the Hawks and the Bulls. He almost very similar to TJ McConnell is more effective in the game, in the flow of the game when he comes in fresh legs halfway through the first quarter, halfway through the third quarter, the first time you get the subs in, and just is a menace sprinting around giving you a thousand% effort, which is what DaVon does so well, and it’s what T.J. McConnell does so well. Now, I think TJ might be slightly better. I don’t know. You could have the different conversations. Each of them are good in different things, but that is where I see DaVon fitting in with this Heat roster. And with Norman Powell having a 611 wingspan, showcasing the offensive versatility did a year ago, off the ball, on the ball. I just can see him fitting well next to Tyler, and I would like to see your best five start the game. And DaVon be that super sub sixman off the bench with obviously Nicole Yoic being your seventh man. All right, a couple more questions to get here to round out the show, but I want to make sure you get hooked up on this awesome deal. Heat shirt sale at chatsports.com. All right, final question on today’s show. Speaking of Nicole Yoich, how will he be used? Because we are now a long time in. This is his third or this is going to be his fourth year. We’ve been three years into the league. How is he going to be used? He’s been misused his entire career. Is he a big man? Is he coming off the bench? Is he a starter? Well, he started a lot in 23 24 when he got called up from the G-League and we expected him to be a starter this year, right? That’s what it was going to be. It was going to be Bam. There’s going to be Jimmy, you’re gonna be Yoic as your front court to start the year. Obviously, things went hot haywire. Yoic only started 10 games, but they weren’t really that pretty in terms of how he was playing. He was not really finding the right role for him. Now, maybe it’s roster construction. Maybe he’s just more comfortable coming off the bench because it’s hard to deny how much better his numbers are for the Heat last season in the 36 games he came off the bench. And this team, the way it’s currently constructed, it will be off of the bench. Unless Andrew Wiggins gets traded, there is no way that they start Yovic over Wiggins in my opinion. Could you make the argument that it’d be better long term for Miami? I I think you can. I just don’t see it happening. So, Yoic will be off the bench. He’ll be that seventh man. But the point is, he needs to be used more with his strengths, right? He is so much better in transition when he has the ball in his hands getting towards the cup. I just can’t see another year of him being relegated to an off ball sit in the corner. Wait for the ball to come to you when you can either shoot or make something happen with it. I can’t. He’s got to be more used in the flow of the offense. He should not be touching the ball for the first time in a possession six, seven seconds on the clock saying make something happen. He should be getting into the flow at 17, 15. And it just all goes back into the Heat need to play quicker. They’ve been one of the most slow tempo teams in the entire league over the last decade. It’s why they have a bottom 10 offense in each of the last five seasons. So, they need to get faster, quicker, younger, which they’ve done. They’ve become one of the more young teams in the NBA with how they’ve constructed the roster. The oldest player on the team is Norman Powell at 32. That just simply hasn’t been the case over the past five or six years with Jimmy Butler in company. So, they need to play quicker. They need to utilize him more when he’s on the floor coming off the bench in the 20 to 28 minutes a night. He should be handling it and creating. I want to see more big to big pick and rolls. Him and Bam, him in wear. Like I think that would be really beneficial because of how good he is up here playmaking for others. And then you could maybe utilize Norman Powell and Tyler Herro off the ball and use Zovic more on ball at times. There’s just is a lot of different avenues where you can go offensively when you use Yoic more on the ball. So, I do not want to see him relegate to the offball, sit in the corner type of guy that he’s been for, I’d say most of his career to this point. That’ll do it for today’s show. Appreciate everybody tuning in here with us here at the Heat Report. Season can’t come close. I just am really excited for this upcoming year. Um, I hate that they’ve got me excited again. And, uh, we’ll be here covering it all. So, make sure you join the channel.

If Tyler Herro does not sign an extension with the Miami Heat this October; Herro would be eligible for a 4-year, $206.9 MM extension next NBA Offseason. If Herro made an All-NBA team in 2025, he would then become eligible for an extension worth $380 MM.

  1. Why would you give $40 million to Tyler? Not only does he get trampled on defense in the playoffs, but he gets locked up about 80% of the time on offense too.

They need to trade him, and they should do it before they signal to the league that he’s not worth extending by not giving him the cheaper extension.

Jakucionis won’t be a game changer, I’ve accepted that, so whatever he does turn out to be is fine. He’s not a lottery pick after all.

Rozier should be left to expire on our books unless we have a real shot at contending via some unforeseen development.

Starting backcourt should be Tyler and Powell as it stands.

Jovic is the real #1 question for this season. Ths starless build is only going somewhere if Jovic can emerge as a pseudo-star that boosts the offense considerably. Ware too, for that matter, although more depends on Jovic as his skillset is far more versatile. The only way a team that’s playing guys like Bam and Tyler big money can succeed is if their real best players are on team friendly contracts.

  2. Trade Bam. Then you have $ to pay players who can actually score & win games. Without Tyler Bam would have led the team straight to the 15th seed

  3. have you noticed that the majority of teams that extend players for ridiculous amounts like 50 million per year always end up regretting it & wanting to trade them and it hampers their efforts to make their team better?

  4. Trading Herro with a legit star who can actually defend is the best move we can get, can we actually trade him to the Raptors for Barnes or Ingram?

  5. im starting kaspar the friendly ghost on nba 2k26 with ware at c…bam at pf…powell at sf…herro at sg…& wiggins off the bench with starter minutes;)

  6. I'm not questioning the HEAT 🔥, I trust the process of the rebuild…
I think we'll be ok, we shouldn't give TYLER the max, just extend HIM with some reachable incentives….GO HEAT 🔥

  7. the thing for me is if Tyler makes the jump to an all nba caliber player, I don’t have a problem paying him that kind of money
if he comes out this year and looks like the leader of a contending team then definitely give him his money
he is young.. there is time for him to become the 1A on a playoff team
A full training camp where they can build this offense around Herro i think will help a lot
Also call me crazy but the talent in this starting 5 is crazy.. Andrew Wiggins i believe is the best 4th option in the NBA
