🚨Ben Simmons SCARED To Play For The Knicks? | New York Knicks Rumors

Is Ben Simmons scared to play for the New York Knicks? We’re going to break that down on today’s show as reports are coming out that Simmons may be hesitant to play for the New York Knicks due to the media backlash. Appreciate everybody for stopping by as we react to a report that came out over the weekend that Ben Simmons may not be signing with the New York Knicks because he doesn’t want to face the backlash and scrutiny of the big bad tough New York media. Look, I don’t know if this report is 100% true. It absolutely could be, but this feels more like a Ben Simmons played for Philly. He didn’t like the Philly media, and why would he sign with the Knicks? Because their media is even worse. An NBA GM told Shawn Deini this. Of the places Ben Simmons could land, the Knicks are at the bottom of the list. They are the long shot. He does not want the scrutiny. And they want to have they want to have room to use the whole roster. That’s one reason they got rid of Tom Tibido. If you’re bringing in a veteran who is hurt half the season, it’s going to prevent you from seeing what you’ve got with your young guys. And I’ll just start with this from that quote. I hope that’s not true. Like I’m hoping that Ben Simmons is still not in the stage of his career where he doesn’t want to sign with the Knicks because of the media and he’s scared of the media backlash. I also like kind of question this because how do we know Ben Simmons is going to be hurt? Yes, you could predict the future sometimes by looking at the past. And he has been hurt a lot, but this feels like he’s been hurt a lot. He didn’t like the media in Philly and if he goes to the Knicks, he’s not going to like the media with New York and he’s going to be hurt again. I don’t know. The rest of the reasons do make sense because if you’re signing Ben Simmons, Simmons is probably only going to come here if he knows that there is playing time available. And having to find playing time for a player that is your 14th signed player is always going to be a little bit tough. And if you are playing Simmons, that means you’re probably not playing a guy all that much like Becomier or maybe you’re not looking to develop a Kevin McCull Jr. or somebody like Mohamed Diawara. So, I get that. But at this stage, Simmons is better than Dier. He is better than McCull. He is better than Dawir. And I’m not out here saying that Simmons is an all-star or an AllNBA player. He’s still someone that can contribute to winning. And he fits some of the things I think personally the Knicks lack. He can handle the ball. He can guard multiple positions. He can get out and run in transition and if there’s a fast break runaway or he needs to finish around the rim or above the rim, he can do that. He can rebound the ball. He can pass the ball. He could defend the ball. That’s going to play on any team on any role. But you look at this team and is he going to be your backup point guard or is that going to be Miles McBride? The Knicks have plans of playing Clarkson and McBride as a duo off the bench and let Clarkson handle the offensive responsibilities of a point guard while McBride handles the defensive responsibilities of a point guard. I don’t know if I love the idea of Josh Hart and Ben Simmons coming off the bench, but I love the versatility that Simmons can bring. He can guard all five positions. He could play some small ball five. I like the idea of him and Jaylen Brunson sharing the court together, allowing Brunson to play a little bit more offball. Like there are things to like about his game and there are things that he would bring to this squad. But at the end of the day, it’s his decision. If if he is hesitant to sign with the Knicks because of the media scrutiny, then it’s probably better that he just does not come and play here. Um, I’m sure we’ll find out in a couple of days. I know Brian Winhorse came out with the report last week where he linked the New York Knicks, the Boston Celtics, as well as the Sacramento Kings, and the Phoenix Suns to Simmons. Maybe he goes and signs with one of those teams. I don’t know. For the 14th roster spot, I am totally okay with Simmons coming or not signing him at all. I’ll ask you a question. What free agent do you want the Knicks to sign? We’re going to go through a couple of names that I think they could be targeting with that 14th roster spot, but I just want to open up the comments section and let all the real ones sound off. A player that I think is probably most likely at this point to come back to the Knicks is Landry Sham. Like, if there’s any player that was on the team last year that’s going to come back and join the team this year, I think it’s Shamut. Um, he was liked within the locker room. He played well in the playoffs when his number was called. And like Simmons, he has skills and traits that are going to translate to any team. He can defend. He’s a willing defender. He’s going to defend and play hard and he could shoot the basketball over like the last three months of being a New York Knick. Shot the ball above 40% from downtown. He also came back from a major shoulder injury. So kind of the timeline once he got fully healthy, he was able to shoot the ball well. And if Landry Shams the 14th roster spot, I’m totally okay with that. I’m not ready to rule out Don Wright. I don’t think it’s the most likely signing at this point, but there is not really a third point guard on this team. I don’t classify Miles McBride as a point guard. I view him as an offball guard, a point guard, a wing stuck in a point guard’s body. And we saw the Knicks have confidence in Dylan Wright to start when Jaylen Brunson got hurt. And right now you only got two real point guards and Brunson and Kick. Maybe Clarkson gets some of those responsibilities. Maybe Mike Brown thinks it’s time for McBride to take that step as a point guard. But I like the veteran leadership Don Wright brought. He brought some competitive spirit on defense and honestly in the playoffs he was kind of a swing type player. I would be totally cool with him coming in. If there’s a free agent out there that I am curious as to why he has not signed, it’s air coffee. And at as 6’7, 210 lbs, the athleticism he provides, and the three-point shooting he provides at nearly 41%, I think it’d be a great fit for this team. They don’t really have too many wings on this roster outside of OG and male. I guess you could throw Josh Hard in there, but at 6’4, 6’5, he’s not really a swingman in this league. He’s just kind of an undersized power forward at this point. And when you’re 67 and you could shoot at 41% from three and you can guard a couple of different positions, I’d be interested. I don’t know what the holdup is. I don’t know why he’s still a free agent. Um, he’s someone I would absolutely be interested in. We’ll see if the Knicks kick the tires on coffee down the line. Malcolm Brogden is a name that we have heard brought up around New York Knicks circles as a potential player to fill that 14th roster spot. And this one makes a lot of sense to me. Kind of hitting back on the topics we already hit. He’s a real point guard and the Knicks don’t really have a true backup point guard unless you think Kyler Kick is ready for those responsibilities. And maybe part of this year with Mike Brown is finding out if he is. and you won’t be able to find out if Brogden is brought to the team, but he’s a scorer. He’s a proven playoff player. He’s a proven playoff shooter, and he is just more in his prime than Kick is, and he’s just a better basketball player than Kick right now. I like him as the backup point guard for this team. Him, McBride, and Clarkson, the three guards off the bench. I’m just not so sure you’re going to sell Malcolm Brogen on being the 14th man and maybe not having guaranteed minutes every single night. If you’re looking for a shooter, and I mean shooter, Seth Curry, like I’m interested in him. Any guy that shoots 50% from three, you could play on my basketball team. And the Knicks are a team that kind of lacks shooters. Again, it’s 14th roster spot. I don’t expect too many minutes from him. But a veteran, a Curry, and a guy that could shoot the piss out of the ball. Yeah, I’d be interested in that. We know what he is on defense. Kind of non-existent at this point. for a guy that maybe plays five to eight minutes per night, come in, stand wide open on the perimeter and knock down shots could make some sense. Cody Martin is a wing that might be able to intrigue the New York Knicks. Um they were reportedly interested in him when he was a Charlotte Hornet before being traded to Phoenix. He could defend it. Not that great of a shooter. Kind of a classic slasher. Uh got some athleticism. Could play with pace. might be able to fit in a Mike Brown system where they get more up and down, but a willing defender for sure. I’d keep your eyes on him. Trey Lyles is a player that we’ve heard time and time again being linked to the New York Knicks since Mike Brown became the head coach due to their connection back on the Sacramento Kings. If you want a power forward that can play the five and has some offensive versatility as well, Trey Lyles could be that player. I’m going to continue to bring up Chris Buchet for a couple of different reasons. I know the Knicks had interest in him at the NBA trade deadline. I also know the Knicks had interest in Jordan Clarkson at the NBA trade deadline and then he became a free agent and they signed him. I know the Knicks had interest in trading for Gershon Yabaselli at the trade deadline and then when he became a free agent they signed him. So there are people inside the building for the New York Knicks that like Bouche and if you want a 6’9 n wing that can play the three four and even some small ball five has some athleticism could play up the rim above the rim wants to get up and down it could make some sense. Andy’s good friends with OG and Anobi. Is the door 1,00% shut on campaign? Maybe. Um but he’s a point guard. Knicks are a little light in the point guard department. remember they signed him around this time last year following the day of the home run derby. I remember it because then I went to the home run derby here in Dallas, Texas and I witnessed the worst national anthem. So I’ll always remember home run derby day 2024’s campaign day. But I don’t know, you could use a veteran. Maybe he knows his role wasn’t all that much, but uh it could make some sense. Do you want to just bring back a locker room guy? PJ Tucker finished the season as a New York Knick is a free agent. Um supposedly was really liked within the locker room. Um if you’re expecting the 14th guy on the roster to not play at all and just be someone for the vibes like that could be PJ Tucker. I don’t see any other team out there going out and signing him. But he was liked within the locker room. He was also almost looked at as like a another coach, an extension of the bench. He was the guy leading the players only meetings that happened way too frequent last year. I don’t mind PJ Tucker on the 14th roster spot being an extension of the coaching staff. Give me a name though. A player you want the Knicks to sign. I don’t know. We’ll see. What’s Leon Rose cooking? What’s Mike Brown wanting? We’re going to find out when they do somebody. NBA rumors suggest that Simmons does not want to sign with the Knicks because he doesn’t want to face the ‘scrutiny’ that comes with playing in New York.
