Do you remember the 2018 Houston Rockets? π€ #rockets #nba #nbanews #basketball
This team won a league high 65 games, had the MVP on their roster, and was supposed to dethrone the greatest dynasty of all time. But when it mattered most, they completely fell apart. The 2018 Rockets weren’t just good, they were on a mission. For years, Golden State embarrassed them, blowing them out in the playoffs and outclassing them in the regular season. So eventually, Houston built a team with the sole purpose of beating them. They traded for Chris Paul, surrounded Hardy with shooters, and turned themselves into a supercomput of an offense, and to everybody’s surprise, it actually worked. They had the best record in the league, took a 3-2 lead on the Warriors in the conference finals, but then disaster struck. With less than 30 seconds left in game five, CP3 went down with a hamstring injury that would change the course of history because they would end up dropping game six. And after being up by double digits in game seven, they missed 27 straight three-pointers. And just like that, the season was over. They built their entire identity to beat the Warriors. And they actually had them on the ropes. But instead of ending a dynasty, they became the biggest whatif of the decade.
