Did ALL These Spurs NEED to Move On!?

Did ALL These Spurs NEED to Move On!?

Once a Spur, always a Spur. What is up, San Antonio Spurs fans? Welcome to TSR Sports. Hope you’re having a great week. And I caught this article from Pounding the Rock and I thought, you know what, this might be a nice way to say a final goodbye to the guys that no longer on the team. Maybe find out who some of you wish were still on the team, but also where are they now if you haven’t been tracking the guys that are not going to be with the Spurs next season. So, let’s get into the article pounding the Rock right away. Without further ado, Chris Paul is back with the Clippers to end his career. Throughout the year, CP3 made it clear that the destiny, you know, as I’m saying, CP3. Anybody know of Kell Johnson switching back to number three? I don’t think I’m seeing any news on that. Or is he going to stay zero? I’d like him to switch back to three because my KJ jersey is a number three. All right, enough about me. Paul made it clear that the decision to be away from his family located in LA was tough on him. The Spurs also landed Dr. Fox at the trade deadline and drafted Dylan Harper, which meant CP3’s role would have been reduced significantly had he stayed. After entering free agency, he signed for the minimum with the Clippers, a franchise he’s familiar with after spending six years there earlier in his career. That was part of Lab City, of course. Yeah, there was no way. We all knew with trading for Darren Fox and then the drafting of Harper. I’m like, there’s no way CP3 is coming back. The three-headed monster at guard appears to be Fox, Castle, and Harper. wish him the best. To his credit, he played all 82 games last year. Did not expect that. But also, I think playing all 82 games as a starter may have been a slight detriment to the team as the starting lineup, as brief as it was of Fox and CP3 was just not working. But I thank him for his time here for mentoring the guys. And best of luck in LA. All right, up next, Blake Wesley will fight for minutes in Portland. Wesley was tra Let me pause this ad. Who the heck knows what’s going to happen with weird copyright stuff. Wesley was traded alongside Malachi Brandham to the Wizards for Kelly Olen. Washington seemed like a good place for him since the only point guard on the roster at this point is Bub Carrington, but he agreed to a buyout. Soon after being waved, he signed a one-year guaranteed minimum deal with the Trailblazers where minutes could be harder to come by, but or he fits the style of play of a defensive mind of Portland team. Some reason that paragraph read a little weird to me or I put pauses in the wrong spot. But um yeah, got essentially got traded to the Wizards part of the Kelly only trade and then wound up in Portland. I thought there’d be a small chance the Spurs would keep him, but I would have rather have kept him over say Jordan Mclofflin. Jordan Mclofflin a much better three-point shooter. Doesn’t really bring much else to the team as far as I know. Blake is fast, can sling some D sometimes. The Spurs are clearly ready to move on from their 25th overall pick in 2022, but he’s a player I would have been okay keeping on the roster. Granted, he might not have got a lot of minutes behind that three-headed guard monster already talked about, but he’s a young player and can still develop, whereas Mclofflin, I think we have seen his ceiling, at least Blake, we’ve seen part of his game get better year by year, certainly, but his rookie year, he was a disaster in the paint. So, I I actually would have liked to have kept Blake Wesling. I get they moved on from because of the Olanic trade, but he he’s one I was a little bummed to see go. Sandre Malik Vi will try to find a permanent home in Toronto. Now, this actually was a surprise because we were hearing a lot of rumors he might go play to Europe. Well, he didn’t go east, he went north. The Raptors signed him to a two-year minimum contract that includes a player option. And considering the lack of big men on Toronto’s roster, Mamu might get an opportunity to showcase his skills. Something that he didn’t get to do much here. I would have loved to keep Mamu, but for whatever reason, he just wasn’t getting the playing time. I know there’s deficiencies in his game. He’s not perfect, but just could never really crack the rotation, get solid minutes with our Spurs. That being said, one of my favorite alltime moments on this channel, hanging out with you guys doing playbyplay is the night he went off and Flavor Flave was in the house. I mean, just the way Mama was draining threes left and right. I think he only missed one shot and dropped, correct me if I’m wrong, was it 34 points or was it 31 in just under 20 minutes, which I believe set an NBA record for most points in under 20 minutes of play. It was it was a blast to see him do that. Obviously, he never got anywhere close to achieving that again the rest of the season, but we’ll always have this memory. And this is just such a great picture of Mamu with Flavor Flave, Stefon Castle right next to him. That was a great night. Wish you best of luck, Mamu. Hopefully he gets playing time in Toronto because he was not getting it in San Antonio. Malachi Brandham will have a lot of competition with the Wizards. So also part of that Olick trade. He stayed in Washington. They’re going to keep him. Brandon has the scoring talent to carve a spot for himself in the rotation, but he’ll need to prove that his improvement from beyond the arc last season was real and willing to bring more effort on the defensive end, aka a lot more. Malachi Brandon was an absolute track a cone on defense drafting Harper and Bryant pretty much sealed his fate. He’s gone. But we will always have this Spurs fans. I won’t forget this. Maybe you’ve forgotten. The night he posted LeBron was probably the defining moment Malachi Brandham’s career to poster a future Hall of Famer, one of the greatest of all time. Yeah, that that one uh good job Malachi. But yeah, did not see him coming back and best of luck to him. This one’s unfortunate because when he played oftent times he played well in limited action was a decent, you know, pretty good rebounder and a fantastic shot blocker. I will say this, Charles Bassie probably one of my favorite shot blockers on the Spurs the last five years. One be the better shot blocker, don’t get me wrong, but when he block shots, he just launched those things into the stands and he’s likely hit it overseas. Bassie couldn’t take advantage of the opportunities he had with the Spurs and what ended up being an injury riddled stint with the club. Absolutely. I’m probably gonna say this wrong. Partisan Belgrade, a Serbian team is reportedly his top priority, but other European teams are also interested according to his agent. He played pretty well in the summer league with the Boston Celtics, but looks like he’s not going to catch on with anybody. No surprise the Spurs moved on from him. Just one injury after another. It was always the same area. I believe it was his left knee, fractured patella, torn ACL, and just general soreness through a good part of last season in that same area. Just couldn’t stay healthy. The Spurs had to move on. As much as we wanted it to work out, the player’s not playing, you can’t stay healthy. At some point, you have to cut ties. The Spurs did. Last but not least, this gentleman is not on the thumbnail. Bismouth Biombo remains unsigned. Beyond didn’t start last season on an NBA roster and had to wait for a call from our desperate Spurs. As Wendy went down, they traded Zack Collins. All of a sudden, we had uh almost no big men. 30 or we had none. Yeah, because him mama. I’m trying to remember the roster last year because there’s been so many changes. Was We WMY and Collins to start the season. We traded Collins. Webby went down and Bassie the other big man wins. All right. So, WMY down, Bassie down, no Collins. Out of big men. The 32-y old veteran center was a good rebounder and passable defender in San Antonio, but it seems like it might not be enough to get him a spot on a team as he remains unsigned. He’s a free agent. We have an open roster spot. Listen, for what he was asked to do just randomly, hey, come on in. Play for the Spurs. No, wait. Start for the Spurs. I will give a lot of credit where his credit was due. He was a professional. I think I’d rather see us go in a different direction. I looked at the free agent list this morning. Christ Chu is still available. Sorry, I’m messing up his last name. Chris Buchet, Bob Bowl still out there. You guys are saying, “Hey, let’s get Boal. If he’s taking up the 15th roster spot, okay, fine. I do have concerns about his work ethic and attitude, but the Spurs can shape him up. They have a great conversation with him before signing them and, you know, then fine, go for it. But we still have that open roster spot, and I don’t know what we’re going to do with it, but as soon as the news breaks, I’ll try to get a video up as soon as possible.” A little other side news, guys. I mentioned TSR Sports Music is uh in the process of getting back up and running. might be back up and running next month, which of course is only a couple days away. It’s July 30th at the time of this video. But, uh, I’ve taken a major few steps forward in the music department. So, looks like I’ll be bringing sports music back to the channel. I’ve got a WMY song planned, a giant suck, stink, whatever song. All those apply. And maybe a Gankee song, too. And I might might try to drop some bars. So, at the very least, that should be good for a laugh because I can’t really rap well, but I can at least put something together, you know, on take like five, six, or seven or eight or whatever it is. Guys, you want to follow me on uh Twitter, by the way, my TSR Sports 50. Drop a comment down below. The six players we mentioned, is there one? You can only pick one just for fun that you would have liked to see come back. If it’s more than one, of course, feel free to share that. But if there’s one guy you could pick, who would you have kept? I’m gonna apply that question to myself. It’s tough. It would have been Mamu or Blake, which probably obvious based on how I was speaking on the video. I’m going to go with a younger player. I Blake Wesley. Actually surprised him saying that. I saw some potential there. Obviously needs to work on his outside shot and other parts of his game, but I I would have chose Blake, but he’s not here, so doesn’t matter. Hit the thumbs up, support the channel, subscribe to become part of our awesome Spurs community. I thank you, and as always, go Spurs go.

Once a Spur, always a Spur! Looking back at the guys that won’t be a Spur next season.

  1. They will all be out of the NBA within 2 years, that's why this team is so bad, I think the same for Keldon and Vassell, if they didn't play in SA, they would have marginal minutes

  2. Malaki ABSOLUTELY had to go. He wasn't (as good???) as advertised.

Blake was unfortunately a victim of the guard logjam. I would've liked to see him develop that bursty first step that reminds me of Tony Parker. But he hasn't controlled his speed unlike what TP did in his 2nd and 3rd years. Oh well.

We got CP3 at the most inopportune time of his career and our timeline. Would've liked to see more lobs from him to Wemby and Steph.

Bassey is too injury prone. So…yeah.

Then, there's Mamu. That hit hard. He played well alongside Wemby. I wanted the team to succeed within him on it. I hope he gets to come back sometime somehow.

  3. Apart from CP3, these guys are not NBA championship pieces. But hope they are able to make more of their careers elsewhere.

  4. If there was one guy I could have kept, it would have been… Mamu. Blake is my favorite in the group, and I think he still has room to grow with experience, but he won't get it with the current Spurs guard corps, so hopefully he can win some playing time in Portland.

  5. I think Spurs are saving spot in case something shaking out of the trees with a team ie Kuminga (not that I expect they are necessarily interested), but think its that type of player.

I believe the Spurs are in many ways close. In this scenario Spurs trade Vasselle (not abt just lets get rid of him) but it would be that type of move that would jump thr team from ceiling top six in Western conference to vying for top three.

Not that its the plan, but I think Spurs are currently position to jump on an opportunity if its there (not Giannis) but someone who puts them in contention.

Example, Warriors get immediate scoring option third, fourth option and Spurs give a #1 possibly two 1s and Spurs get Jonathan Kuminga and they are set going forward

  6. CP3 had to go, and was a perfect way for all this to wrap up…his value for one year was great for some of our young players. All 4 others, while I would love especially to keep Wesley and Mamu, they need time to play and they weren't going to get it here, so it was best for them. Bassey needs health and we already filled that need with Kornet and Olynyk. Malachi just needs a change of scenery…he wasn't a great match here, but I hope he develops somewhere…he wasn't going to get playing time anyways.

  7. Mamu if only Mitch could figured out how to include him. He derserve minutes. Good player and good person from what I get

  8. I wish we could've kept MAMU, i think he could've been a potential HB replacement in the long term. But i understand that we probably needed the cap space. He could've ended up a flop but I could also see him turning into a super solid role player. Only time will tel.

  9. Change is a good thing, especially if the spurs are planning on making the playoffs. The only one i would have kept would have been cp3

  10. I'm tired of the Chris Paul love, love the guy, but our young guys needed minutes last year, all Paul's minutes, I would have much rather watched our young guys get them minutes to showcase their talents. Paul, while still a viable player out there, didn't make an impact in the winning column, granted we had a lot more problems, I would have just rather watch our young guys get a chance on the court.

  11. The fact all these players have been replaced with competant NBA players (except CP) just makes me so encouraged for next season. All the Charles Bassey minutes replaced by Luke Kornet?!!? Blake Wesley minutes replaced by Dylan Harper? Mamu minutes replaced by Olynyk? this is too good.

  12. Was really bummed to lose Mamu. Also seeing this list shows how weak our drafting is outside of lottery picks…

  13. Mamu was a huge missed opportunity, I’m not saying he should’ve been a starter, but it was very clear that his chemistry with Victor was probably the best on the team outside of maybe Castle, I didn’t really think his deficiencies were bad enough to keep him off the court. If it was defense, we had quite a few bad defenders on the team so that doesn’t really make sense.

  14. def Mamu! i asked why let Mamu go just to sign Olynyk on bookface and people thought i was crazy? i just left the link to Mamu’s career night highlights so the talkin. gsg

  15. Charles had to go mamu coulda stayed
I think the guard logjam made it. so that at least 2 if not all 3 cp Blake and/ or Malaki was gonna have to go … doesn’t Portland have a log jam
